Yup I have ffdshow installed. I needed it and Gabest filter to get mkv files to work. The only thing I did differently was to install Haali.

Thanks again for your great work, Haali :)
Here's a small possible problem I just found about the newest (25/11/2005) version:
Even if I uncheck "Disable MPC internal..." as I want to use MPC,
your installer will change the association for .mkv that is originally associated with MPC. As a result, mpc will no longer open .mkv file by double-clicking the icon.
Furthermore, MatroskaSplitter.exe won't recover the association it changed, when uninstalled.
As a result, if you install MatroskaSplitter.exe and then uninstall it,
Windows will be clueless how to handle mkv files.
IMHO, changing the association without asking is, generally, rude, and confusing for inexperienced users.

I am sorry to say it again, but i want to point out that June version of Haali splitter was displaying Titles of each concatened file, and now it just show "Segment 0", "Segment 1", etc. Did this option disappear ?

I cannot play .MKV files in Crystal Player 1.96 (MKV is XviD & HE-AAC). The movie plays, but too slow. Is it the player to blame?

no, it's probably caused by an aac decoder

Can we have mp4 tagging support? Kurtnoise is doing this very good with Yamb, tg.exe and mp4box. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93927&page=20&pp=20)
Thank you :)
In the meantime Kurt does it with mp4tags.exe from mpeg4iptools. You can see them in itunes or in MPC (to make is easier for you to look at some sources, you can get the sources from gabest here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303)

tg screws up files something awful, which is why he moved to mp4tags when it was released.

A new build is out...
[General] Avoid unnecessary rewinding when switching editions. Added a splitter version that can use FileSource with MERIT_UNLIKELY. Added a splitter version that exposes all streams as pins with MERIT_DO_NO_USE. Added a http reader that is registered for matroska only, for other file types you can add a value in HKCR\http. Installer improvements. Added thumbnails extraction in explorer, registered for matroska only and disabled in settings by default. Fixed seeking in certain files with AVC.
[Matroska] Muxer improvements.
[MP4] Some small parser improvements.
A lot of changes went into this release, so some bugs may have slipped in unnoticed. Take care.

The thumbnail feature is neat, especially because you can set an offset so it doesn't generate the preview from the first frame. No more pages of black but a really funky amount of different looking pictures here. Also neat that you can use it with some copying of registry key for MP4/MKV/OGM and AVI. However with ZoomPlayer it doesn't work with simply enabling it in the options as ZoomPlayer creates special keys in the registry and doesn't use the default MatroskaVideo key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I copied the shellex parts to ZPMP4File, ZPOGMFile, ZPAVIFile and ZPMKVFile and it works great so far, thanks for making my thumbnails look more useful. Would be nice if you could set the regkey used for enabling at least as a hidden option somewhere.

Something in your setup causes a wrong filter to be loaded, probably the one with MERIT_UNLIKELY.

I forgot to mention that my problem only occurs with .asx files (text/xml playlist).
Manually disabling the Haali Media Splitter (AR) {564FD788-86C9-4444-971E-CC4A243DA150} filter solves the problem.

I still can't seem to play any .mkv files (x264) when installing the haali splitter. I have the current version of ffdshow installed. As soon as I unistall the splitter my .mkv movies work again. I can however watch my avi files. But every single one of my mkv files won't play.
I just downloaded the matroskasplitter from here
http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/
I also have the vsfilter and registered it.
Do I need anything else?
I should add that my mkv files play fine in windows media player but not theatertek which I use for all my movies.
Edit: I started a discussion on Gabest which turned into a discussion of my problem with haali which I am now trying to use. See here for my Graphedit pic

I'm afraid I can't help you with this, I don't have a theatertek player and they don't seem to have any demo versions. And if WMP can play files, the software at least installed and registered correctly.

I'll remove the message in the next version. It seems the graph builder sometimes tries to load all parsers, even those that were not registered to handle the file, and my code displays this error message.

Okay. I copied a matroskasplitter.ax file into my system32 folder and now the mkv files play. However, I don't get the Haali icon in the tray showing. If I play an avi file, the Haali icon appears in the tray. So the Haali splitter is sort of working. It works for avi's but not mkv's. Does something extra need to be done to get it to recognize mkv files?
This is really frustrating. I have encoded my movies with the AC3 track, and the English subtitle track. I'd really like to get this working with subtitles. C'mon there's gotta be some experts here. I'll buy the beer.

I tried theatertek and didn't have much progress. It doesn't even seem to load my splitter for mkv files. I guess you'd need to file a bug with them if you bought the product. Besides my package does not include a file named 'matroskasplitter.ax', it's Gabest's splitter.

Hm, earlier had this DX50 thing, but now I checked those files and notice that the files 4CC is actually YV12, some DivX encoder seem to tag files with this 4CC as it seems, but only did it with version 5. So it seems that files that come with YV12 4CC "vidsyv12" aren't handled proberly, as all those files fail when creating a directshow graph, but work fine when you change the 4CC, but I got tons of those files as I had to notice ... doesn't the splitter handle YV12 4CC for AVIs properly or is it just my system? DivX actually registers itself to handle YV12 4CC so I wonder about this ...
edit: I usually work with a non-admin account and it seems like the installer messed up on that, after i reregistered avi.dll from the splitter manually the issue resolved itself o_O

I use Haali splitter for watching OGMs, MKVs and MKV-in-XCD, but cannot handle OGM-in-XCD as well and forced to use mplayerc internall splitter. It is very irritating to me because almost all of my OGMs are made with VirtualDubMod and therefore contain menus and tags in Russian encoded by CP1251 instead of UTF-8 (and mplayerc doesn't handle 1251 codepage).
Tell me please: is it my error in splitter config or somewhere else, or splitter itself cannot handle XCD made from OGM?

It works fine with the MP4 splitter of the latest MPC CVS build. Are you sure you're using Haali's splitter? Another user in the MPC thread had the same problem as me with this trailer. I should add that the 720p version of the same trailer does work ok with Haali.

Haali : I've a small request. I noticed that with mkv files your splitter selects directly the 1st subtitles if they are available but for mp4 files this is automatically disabled. Could we have the same behavior (i.e the 1st sub automatically selected). Thanks...

Not exactly. For matroskas, Haali splitter simply selests default subtitle; but exactly one subtitle stream is default in mkv muxed by mkvmerge (the 1st stream if were not selected explicitly).

In matroska each stream has a 'default' flag that can be on or off. My splitter selects the first subtitle stream that has this flag on. In mp4 there is no such flag, so the low level parser in mp4.dll returns off for all streams. This can be changed to return on for all streams, but think about all the people who don't want to see subs.

How can be turned off the 'default' flag in ALL subtitle streams with mkvmerge so the splitter doesn't selects any subtitle by default?
When i mux a movie with "mmg" i always turn off the 'default' radio button for all the subtitles (i only keep it 'on' for the forced subtitles), but when playing it the first subtitle is displayed, so it seems like "mmg" turns on the 'default' flag on the first subtitle (if there was no 'default' flag already on any other subtitle).
Mosu & Haali can you confirm this and fix it if posible? please :)
Thanks a lot for your tools

A workaround I use when I want subtitles to be disabled by default is to make an empty .srt file that will be the default subtitle stream.
Such as:
1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:01,000
(the numbers are imperative, otherwise mmg will not recognize it as a subtitle file)

I'm having trouble with the latest Haali media splitter [2006-01-30] and OGG Vorbis audio in MKV:
Media Type 0:
--------------------------
AM_MEDIA_TYPE: (Audio: Vorbis 48000Hz stereo)
majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
subtype: Unknown GUID Name {8D2FD10B-5841-4A6B-8905-588FEC1ADED9}
formattype: Unknown GUID Name {B36E107F-A938-4387-93C7-55E966757473}
bFixedSizeSamples: 0
bTemporalCompression: 0
lSampleSize: 1
cbFormat: 4324
This is using the OGG Directshow filter 0.9.9.5, which works perfectly using the MPC [2006-02-16] builtin MKV splitter. After finding this problem I searched the thread and found an entry which referred to a registry edit to change the Source Filter. So I made the change and rebooted, but still get the same error.
The same problem also exists with the official 6.4.8.7 and 6.4.8.4 builds. Is there any other OGG Vorbis audio decoder better than this one? Perhaps the compatibility problem can be fixed.

I had this problem. Activating ffdshow's libavcodec Vorbis decoder fixed it. ;)
note: I use the ffdshow build available at http://x264.nl/
If SSE2 is not supported, try the differents versions of ffdshow available at free-codecs.com (http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDShow_download.htm)
