How can I handle .sup files which use more than 4 colors to convert them to .idx/.sub?
Also I noticed when opening the ifo files to get the color palette, most of the times the color setting is wrong and has to be adjusted manually.

I dont see an answer to my problem in that thread.
I know what needs to be done to convert formats within Subtitle Creator. (You told me some posts before in this very thread. ;))
However the problem was, that the colors of subtitle files with changing color palettes were wrong. Even when loading the Ifo to get the color information from the corresponding PGC.
Nevertheless it seems that it was a faulty authored DVD. So my problem is 'solved', but thanks for your effort.

OK,
Just a precision, more than 4 color subpics are supported in DVDs but I don't think they are supported by players using the VobSub format. But HD-Sup files support up to 256 colors per subpic. Hence my answer.

Hi Manusse,
I am trying SC again on my new computer after giving up last year. When using the Wizard for the first time, it asks for the location of muxman, PgcDemux and VobBlanker. muxman and PgcDemux was located but VobBlanker was not and there was a message saying you can locate it again later. After clicking START and 65% later, an error message appears saying could not find VobBlanker. I have VobBlanker downloaded and it's on my Desktop. Suggestions??
many thanks----

If I remember correctly, it should ask you again the next time you start the wizard.
Alternatively, locate the Settings.xml file (either in the C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\SubtitleCreator folder or in the C:\Program Files\SubtitleCreator\Data) and edit the location manually.

Hello everybody,
I hope I am posting at the right place. If not, really sorry!
I am new to SC and some things are confusing. Please help.
I've installed SC 2.2 (Win XP Pro SP2; directX isntalled) and K-lite codec pack (Standard 3.90) on my PC but I cannot load DVDs into the programm. I get error message: SC prefered DVD decoder must be installed.
I enabled MPEG2 in ffdshow video decoder settings (libavcodec). I also checked
"DVD Decoding" (just below the window with the codecs names). But it still requires "SC prefered DVD decoder".
What am I doing wrong? May be something is not installed on my PC?
Also, could you please advise what SC tool (and procedure) would be the best to use if I need two things:
1). to add up subtitles to a DVD (AFTER the DVD has been created; NO subtitles on the DVD)
2). to synchronize the subs with the DVD audio.
I read guides on the Videohelp forums but the instructions are for different tasks.
Thank you!
manusse

"SC prefered DVD decoder" means the decoder that comes with PowerDVD 4 or PowerDVD 6 as specified in the documentation (p9).
For 1) one working guide at videohelp: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic338721.html
For 2) use VisualSubSync to create your srt file.

manusse,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
It looks like I overlooked the documentation - I just read the online manual. Sorry!
As for the guide, I read it but I could not find anything about synchronizing subtitles with audio in it.
I reread the guide again right now but still do not see any buttons in the Wizzard that would help synchronize the subtitles and the audio. Sorry if I am missing something.
Thank you!

for 2), use VisualSubSync if you are making the subtitles yourself. Or did you download a srt file?

Salut,

(Right, SC doesn't accept SSA files but we are planning to work on it.

Hello manusse,
I regret for not coming back that long. The e-mail notifier did not work for some reason and I believed there were no more replies.
I use downloaded .srt files. I create DVDs. They are without any subtitles and I need to put the downloaded srt subtitles onto the DVD.
Every time the synchonization of the subtitles with the audio is a problem.
Thank you!

When changing colour of idx/sub from a NTSC DVD, timing changes :s (begins and finished earlier, for example 1:23:45.828 becomes 1:23:40.807 and 00:00:34.681 becomes 00:00:34.646 ; but doesn't happen everytime...)

Hi,
I have added a subtitle wit SCR. But the final dvd was out of sync... Firts I thought about it was a problem because of SCR. Then I have used the DVDLABPRO to multiplex the audio and video files with demuxed files (in SCR_TEMP dir.)
But the result is the same... Again out of sync. Source DVD is of-course NTSC...
Is there anything to do about the syncronisation problems... Like demuxing the video with another programs like Vobedit, DVD-reauthor etc. other than PgcDemux...

Hi,
11 months after the previous one, we hope you'll like the new version although it's still a beta. In this version, you'll see that there is no more the Manipulate SUP menu. That's because you can now open all supported formats (including SUP (SD and HD-DVD), VobSub, srt, sub, ccraw) from the File Open menu in the main window.
There are especially 2 interesting new features:
You can save a SUP file to SRT. This means that SC will create a special SUP and save all the pictures to PNG files. You can also open those types of SRT files. This method also allows you to import images.
You can edit a SUP file and type new text instead of the original one. Then when you save it, the resulting file will be composed of the original SUP file for some parts of it and the typed text for others.
The NTSC bug may still be present as we didn't test it fully but we tried to fix it a bit. Some bugs have been fixed like the top left pixel when using a solid background is not transparent anymore...
You can have a look at Paddington's message here: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=845668.

This is probobly a simple matter for you, but I can't make it work
Have installed the 2.2 .exe version.
Try to open a dvd file (eg. IFO), but keep getting the message "you MUST install SC Subtitle filter first).
The webadress just takes me to the point where I first downloaded the .exe setup file from the start.
Where are this filter, and why doesn't it come with the setup file?

I need some help converting a .sup file from a BD to .idx/.sub
I extracted the .sup from the BD using TsmuxeR, and then used SUPread to convert it to HD DVD sup format. Now when I try to open it in SubtitleCreator, using Tool -> Manipulate, it does not load the complete .sup file. It stops at random places in the .sup file every time I load it.
I have been using SubtitleCreator successfully to convert the .sup from DVDs and HD DVDs and have never had this problem before, or maybe I never noticed previously.
BTW, the BD is Hellboy and the size of the .sup if 30MB. I can upload it if someone can tell where.
Edit: Solved using the latest 2.3 beta

Hi
M having problem with SubtitleCreator 2.2.... have downloaded *.srt file from www.allsubs.org. Wanted to convert to (sub/idx) format using SubtitleCreator 2.2....so that i could burn it on DVD (*.avi + *.sub/idx) and play it on my standalone dvd player DAPIC 9988 (don't want to burn it in *.srt format)
Everytime i convert from srt to (sub/idx) it does the conversion but when i try to play the dvd some problm happens....a couple of times it played the (sub/idx) file....but at times it doesnt recognise the subtitle......and now recently the dvd is gettg stuck at the point where the subtitle begins....
I know that the dvd is getting stuck due to the subtitle bcos i burnt the same movie 2 times on the same dvd (only changed the name of the movie) one movie has the (sub/idx) subtitle and the other has no subtitle...the no subtitle movie doesnt get stuck while the one with the sub/idx is getting stuck....
Don't know what i m doing wrong while converting srt to sub/idx
What i do is open srt in the Subtitlecreator in the "File/Open text subtitle" and than goto Fileo/Save Vobsub as" and save it directly in sub/idx format....am i doing it wrong, do i have to change some settings (have kept default settings of the program
Needed help as to what i am doing wrong...:)

Maybe there's a bug in SubtitleCreator? What you could try is to open and resave the (sub/idx) files generated by SubtitleCreator using VobSub configure.
This may fix your problem?

Hello manusse,
Your friendly "NTSC timing bug" tester. I downloaded the latest 2.3 B1 version and tested another .srt converted to VobSub. Watching on my standalone the subs eventually drifted ~ 2 seconds apart. I did not attempt the workaround but I expect it will work as before. So yes, the "NTSC timing bug" still happens... unless I'm the only one impacted by this.
I wonder if you are having the same problem with PAL and not realizing it for the fact that not many people use hardware standalone players? It doesn't make sense how the timing would be different between the .idx and .sub... is there perhaps some buggy code you are using as basis of your program and don't realize it? I find this somewhat interesting. As always thanks for the great product! I realized I have to change some subtitle settings as on 16:9 my subtitles were going below the screen...
manusse
16th September 2008, 18:46
Hi FitzGerald,
The problem is specifically a NTSC problem related to the drop non-drop timings issue. Actually both Paddington and myself are living in PAL countries, so this may also be a reason why we didn't fix it. A bit hard to test as we don't use NTSC DVD. (Even though I have 2 of them at home). This issue is not possible in PAL.
Actually, with Paddington, we need to elaborate a spec. and then we should be able to fix it. This is because, for example, SUP file generation is working fine even though the core engine is the same as sub/idx generation. So by trying to fix the bug in an inappropriate manner we could break other things. What we lack is debugging time!
When we are ready to debug it, we would really appreciate if you would help us test it in your configuration.
Thanks in advance

Thank you very much for Subtitle Creator. It helps me alot when changing the timing of DVD .sup files. Don't know what I would have done without it!
I have moved to Vista (yes, yes, it is the evil according to many people, but I want to test it out properly for myself) and the number keys (NOT by the numerical pad) 3-9 do not work in the modify .sup section. Specifically changing the time delay.
Moved to Version 2.3 and it now works, but I have another problem.
Right clicking on the subtitles (that has already been loaded) and choosing 'select all subtitles', it simply does not do it.
Mabey I'm doing something wrong? I have no idea.
Any insight on this would be of great help.
