Hi,

This message to thank Anime, Mtz and ercofra for helping me tracking bug. Now that I have a bit of free time (the evening after work), I will try to fix the bugs for next version.

For next version:

I've already fixed the bug mentioned by Derebo here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=959581#post959581).
I plan to fix the dirty line bug first, then the overlapping subtitles bug.
I may need your help to test the new fixes when available so be ready...

Importing ssa/ass subtitles would be a nice feature to have. Especially the positioning and different styling for different lines of text (or even individual words or letters in a line of text). This would be much nicer than the current "new line" way of positioning that is being done in srt files. And for text with different styles on the same frame, I don't believe this can be achieved with srt files at all.

Please let me know if you need any easy to grasp ssa/ass examples of what I'm hinting at.

Maybe it has got something to do with the .NET installations? It appeared after I had reinstalled Windows and installed the .NET framework files via Windows Update. On my previous .NET installation which I did manually, there were no problems.

beening able to position a onscreen text beside / next to a object is COOL

example of translating newspaper headline
road sign, letters headline, street name, building name

i see commercial DVD doing just exactly above the need-to-translate label where i think i have problem trying to position in that area using |||||or align left

but this is just a features to be done after overlaping....
because often when onscreen-text appear dialoges keep going.... and they had never start or ended at same time.

shadow text, (besides outline they also uses shadow on R1-DVD.)

when doing overlap subtitle pixel on previous and next seems abit shifted sometimes*, i also don't know why...

wizard tool not able to work with some small dvd with simple pgc. (like mtz sample flickering dvd will never work with wizard, or any dvd with just main movie trim by nero will also won't work.)

the subtitle quality... (i really think i cannot make a SUP using SC, quality as good as commercial DVD. their font+outline pixel is neater) they just use 2 color..... to acomplish and yet we using 3 color(face outline aa) thats why we have no way to have 2 color font face like theirs. where they had use our aa color for the 2nd font face color in a single subpic. what will our subpic looks like if (color)aa is not use? (i think no matter aa=on or off that aa color affect alot the outcome of the SUP quality currently) i know you will sugest me using karaoke... but karaoke only works when AA=on else i will get a color outline box, i really think when aa=on font pixel turns horrible head wire. although you always reply aa=on only for previewing doesn't affect output, but i test and test i really see there is a BIG difference in the output of aa=on and off

At present, I am the only one who has some (little) time for coding in SC. So I will only look at bug fixes because IMO there are too many nasty bugs remaining. I've given my priority list. Also you may know that when fixing two bugs, programmers generally make one new bug. So it may take some time before those nasty bugs are solved.
This also means no new functions (like ssa/ass, HD/BD SUP support, ...) before some time from my side. Otherwise SC will become full of features but unusable.

i know i using different front and size, but look at their outline, so round+smooth+clean, no funny pixel in/out on every letter.
i dare not use thicker outline on SC... because when SC outline goes thicker it is very very obvious about the "head wire pixel"

just hope a day SC going better ~ ^^

i uses alot of time to use smaller size font and stretching more they give different result thou.

anyway your combination for your test not bad, but can still see some funny pixel you look at commercial dvd they are round inside or outside the outline

anyway your combination is smoother than mine
so mtz what is your font size,, stretch x, y and (color uses for outline and anti-anlias), and AA=ON/OFF

the AA.... looks blur on inisde i seldom see commercial dvd subtitle with such a blur effect

but alot bootleg dvd also comes with low quality subpic

You have problems with "a c d s o" because of bad stretching.
For my eyes, the best outline is 5. Try my settings with arial narrow bold from my previous post.

i been stretching for the last six hours+......
i couldn't get a combination to clear those sticking out or sticking in pixel perfectly... i stretch in the other character pixel comes out, i stretch out another pixel of another letter side appear, either the font body or outside the outline there sure to have random pixel poping out, i cannot even deal with a~z A~Z how am i going to deal with other lang. character?
you know it is quite funny in SC each letter may look different
in a single subpic, lets say there is 3x"S" in between letters of 1st character, problem may only appear in 1 which doesn't have clean pixel.

why do we need to stretch here and there,
shouldn't SC generated picture more standardize like masterosbt? without having to stretch to get something clean
and even after stretching cannot achieve 100% clean

hello, hi

i got a funny question.
i looked at the .ass today they are trying to use fontsize=30
but if i gonna do that in sc most proberly it will be very very big or will end up SC auto crash if the line height is to high

i'm wondering the size defined in .ass/ssa fontsize=25~30
is different from us in SC->format change font.

is there a way to check and calculate their size to what should i set in SC?

so i do not have to everytime manualy check every line in srt inorder not to shrink too small or getting a missing 1st charcter on the left with auto-warping=on

chinese character usualy have no spacing (warping won't works if lines too long)
because i'm seeing they are setting to
22 chinese character on a single line. with fontsize=30

but i set sc font = 22, only can get 17 characters per line
else sc will give a error msg if 22 character on a line
if the character in a line is even longer sc will ignore it and shrink the line, and that will cause the 1st character on left go missing and will not give any msg with warping ON
but if i warping =off, thats even worst because chinese .ass file normally use spacing to break the long long line which make auto warping works in playing back avi+ass.

if i auto warping=off in sc i will end up having "ants" size character

This only happen sometimes,
it like whenever I SC wizard tools a test disc,
with use SC default palette, no menu
= success

the 2nd time i gonna mux my real disc
after delete away the test's VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS
and those muxman log, ini, mxp in SC_TEMP

muxman attempt to stalled at certain % like 49%
the muxman no matter how many tries always stuck there
(Have to CLT+ALT+DEL end process muxman)
no matter i delete SC_TEMP for re-run entire process anot.

but when this happen last week i restarted PC and it works again using the same decrypted files and same SC_TEMP

so today muxman stalled again so i manage get the last line of log

Starting scene Segment_1_scn10 at 00:48:20:04, requested for 00:48:20:02

i will also upload the entire sc_temp excluding m2v and wav to attachment

When you play a DVD and right-click on the video and chose About, what's the name of the DVD decoder?
Are you trying to play a srt file with your DVD?
Is the DVD you are trying to watch a home-made DVD or a commercial DVD?
What OS are you using (Win XP, Vista, ...) ?

what is the .SUB option in wizard Tools? is it "submux" or "philips IMG" can it contains BMP instead flat text, i will like to import BMP to SC_wizard with INF end_time don't know if it is possible....

I wanted to use such function because, (recently i played with MaestroSBT)
+1) I found that it has the technique auto to create cross-spanned OVERLAP timing creating images in between for entire OVERLAP or Same time exactly like what in SSA according to frame

+2) it have a function to auto position back to same area if overlap (SC attempt to center everything, SC will move the subpic if next line is shorter / longer, so supic shakes while overlap)

+3) it has the abilty to create the commercial like outline+body(neat subtitle) without dirty pixel around by default<<< Very good

+4) can use 2~3 color on font body in same subpic like commercial DVD (but must disable AA or even disable outline if 3 color)

above is the +4 points which i always banging this thread for.
-1) but it is also lack of ability to do "INF" END_TIME for overlap images so end up have to manualy do this

I think that is a bad idea. Some (but not all) SAPs will not display any subsequent subpictures after one that does have an endtime specified. You often have to pause/unpause or fast-forward to get the subtitle "unstuck".

However the overlapping subtitles can be useful (with no-end subtitles). If we limit its creation to subtitles built using srt files that have exactly the same end and start times this feature would then be used by karaoke people at their own risk. And this will change nothing for ordinary srt files.
Kumi, what do you think? Is the end time mandatory in the DVD specs or are those SAPs not fully compliant with it?

Sorry, I don't know whether STP_DSP is mandatory, and in what conditions it must be used. It certainly has caused problems for me and others when it's missing, though. Maybe mpucoder or bigotti know the answer?

- Checking Too long Chinese Korean Japanese Character (SC will report if it really not that long..... SC also fail to repaort if it very very long)

- Using SubtitleCreator Wizard to create MXP(for my own needs only, due to i cannot control muxman freely at my low resolution)

the method i use now is this

it is not only karaoke needed STP_DSP
alot of signs, title, overlap talking while one yet to accomplish speech while another starts.

this method is cool,

i no longer need dvdsubedit 1.384 to "INF" click 1 by 1, scrolling to exact needed area and finding all overlap / preparation for overlap area
which might takes few hour by hand if there is hundreds of overlap in 50min film,

i nolonger need to special position manually using ||||| and
shift the subtitle since SC centers it if overlap occur, also doesn't need to special placement and title sign symbol since all is in ssa position

i can have my longing for 2 color font body, my clean outline, my clean inner.... and lastly i can feel AA is also cool now, but not before....

but actually sync using srt is much accurate though...
or maybe because i already so used to SC after making so many SUP every week for a year....

my final words, i still cannot live SC thou...... since i think it is also as cool, espcially comes to Wizard TOol>auto PGCEDIT,muxman, voblanker

although i doesn't have much chance to use the wizard tools now but i got something to say
+Muxman often stalled in Wizard Tools, Happens normally if the DVD is like 4~7min only or created by nero with no menu
+sometimes voblanker also won't work giving some PGC ??? and stop. (but when i mux by ifoedit and manually voblanker it works...)
+i think somemore on the FLY can be added> DVDecryptor>pgcdemux>muxman>voblanker
+should not removed PUO in vob? (why not let voblanker do itself according to reg. setting of that user?)
+it not possible after many tries if Original INPUT is a DVD-ROM
(sc complaints that cannot write? or cannot project cross drive? is it because voblanker SC's setting is using nobackup +to itself and create a tmp project dir in original input source? that cause unwritable....?)

I have a problem and I just can't find the solution for this.
I want to add a subtitle with the wizard. The DVD is NTSC but the subtitle is PAL. I change the framerate from 25 to 29.97 (also tried 23.976). I use the synchronize option, adjust the subtitle, and in preview everything works fine. After starting the wizard I end up with a subtitle having some delay, usually 1-3 seconds. But the preview is OK. What could be the problem or how to fix this?

This problem may be related to a NTSC bug that I must correct some day.
If it is not a fixed delay but a drift of the subtitles'time a quick fix could be to convert the frequency using Synchronize->Convert frame rate using 30 to 29.97 or 29.97 to 30 depending on if you want to speed up your sub or slow it down.

If it's only a delay, just evaluate it and use Synchronize->Set Time delay

I suspect there is something wrong with this subtitle, not with SC.

I tried opening it with SupViewer and noticed that it also displays empty subtitles.
DVDSubEdit has also big problems displaying it.

Thank you for your answer! Yes, i heard about this NTSC bug - still, I don't know what the bug is exactly. I don't want to be rude, but can you please put this bug at the top of to-do list:) when working on the new SC version? I use NTSC releases which are not available in Europe (special edition 2 dvds, etc) and put my subtitles on them.

I think there is a fixed delay (around - 3.5 sec), but in preview it is displayed perfectly.
SC is a great tool and thanks to you (and all the others who are involved) for making it!

No, it is not possible.

but can you please put this bug at the top of to-do list
It's already on my top list but not on the top of it. On the top are the bugs found recently by Anime a few of which will be available in the next beta in a few weeks/days. The problem is I have only a little time available for programming. I concentrate 100% on bug fixes and will not add new features before I'm finished with all those bugs. Paddington is very busy for the moment and hasn't got any time for programming although I know he's beginning to miss it. So he may be back in 2008. Who knows?

Ok. as a newbie I have used SC wizard and created an IFO file which plays with subtitles. I use my VLC and Power DVD to play the newly created file on my PC.
So, here is my problem..although, I searched this forum for an answer but either overlooked it or can't find it...How do I burn the completed file (with subs) to a DVD.
I've tried to burn it using various software but can't get the subtitles with it. Only the movie.

Any suggestions?

Your post is very confusing. If you created your DVD correctly, the subtitles are already included in the VOB files. You can't burn the DVD without them.

Btw. a great program to burn DVDs is ImgBurn.

Confusing... yeah, I know... If the subs are already incorporated into the new IFO file then I can't get them to burn on the DVD.
I did use imgburn. I also used DvdSanta and DVDFlick but no luck. It only successfully produced a DVD movie.
The same file directly off my hard drive plays great but only on my PC DVD player. It's driving me nuts..Cause its not logical..same file should duplicate 1:1 complete. BTW using SC v2.2 to create. The original movie did not have subs. I added them.

Please try to be more specific. What do you mean by "I can't get them to burn on the DVD"?

You must burn the whole VIDEO_TS file plus an empty AUDIO_TS directory onto your DVD in video mode (Nero does it well for example, but any DVD burning software should do it as well).
As vlada wrote, the subs are in the VOB files, the IFO files hold useful information for playing the DVD (number of DVD subtitles, audios, their languages, subtitles'color palettes, ...)

Appearently, the VOB files are not incorporating the sub titles I generated in Subtitle Creator. Tried several Burn programs and all produced a playable DVD. No problem. But No Subtitles.

Encountered another problem using Subtitle Creator. Each time I use the Wizard or load the VOB file I am trying to add subtitles onto. I get a dialog box saying "Subtitle Creator has encountered a problem & needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and it closes. I tried loading the film directly and with the Wizard several times but got same message and had to close program. I removed SubtitleCreator 2.2 from my PC and completely reloaded the program. Still got the same message.
Any ideas?

Did you check the date/time information of the files you burnt to be sure that you are not burning the original files (that don't include your added subtitles).

Sure did..But I think my problem was operator error. After realizing that SubtitleCreator was shutting down in the read cycle of the video_ts file. I went through the menu and found that the profile setting was defaulting to a different aspect ratio then that of the DVD I was using. Which was 16:1. Once I set that, the problem with SC went away. I am going to follow the wizard to see and recreate the subtitle file if I get the film with subtitles I will post results.

I would like to use SubtitleCreator to extract images from HD-DVD sup file and use them to re-author.

I know SB can read HD-DVD sup files but the extracted images (PNG) have SD dimensions and on HD movie are too small.

Do you think to add an HD images extraction for an HD sup file?

Hi Manusse,

Not Evodemux but Supread can extract images from HD-DVD sup file but these images are full-resolution (1920x1080) and 24 bit (images from SubCreator have variable dimensions and 8bit depth:In this way I can arrange subtitle position as I wish).

I've got a big problem with the Google Trasnlation option in the Tools.
When I start the translation i got the message in the Output field: The index is outside the limits of the table.

What's wong and how can I fix it ?
