If you were referring to my post, here is your screenshot. As you see, your settings.xml file suggests that default colors can be changed here, but I've found no explanation anywhere on how to do so, and I've done quite a bit of searching. Many thanks.

Okay, Manusse, but if you helped write the code for this program, is there a reason why you can't answer my question? What was the purpose of having these code lines in the settings.xml file is NO ONE knows how to modify them to change the colors as this clearly suggests is possible? Is there NO way to modify the settings file to have the same pre-set colors every time (just like I can preset the font, position, etc.)?
And to help you, here's the other user's question. The spacing bar will NOT go any lower than this (it also has the same limitation on the top as well).

Just lack of free time. I'm really too busy.
I'll try to answer ASAP.

@blue2,
I started having a look.
Could you please explain me how you are creating your subtitles:
Do you add subtitles to an existing DVD or do you just create SUP files from scratch and add them to a DVD without subtitles or do you create VobSub files?
Cheers

Hi blue2,
Normally the four colors you are chosing in the xml file will appear the following way:
The Background color is attributed to color 12, Foreground to color 13, Outline to color 14 and Antialias to color 15.
when you select Format(ting)->Use prefered subtitle colors then one of the 2 submenues.
Did you use it?
Cheers

Hi Manusse.
I add sup files to recorded material that has no subtitles (my wife is hard of hearing). So there are no pre-set colors, and I can use the pull down menu as shown in the second screenshot above without problem.
But when I had a look at the Settings.Xml file and saw mention of setting my own colors (the other screenshot), I assumed it meant that I could override the settings in the pull down menu so that they would default to MY pre-set colors (which are always the same), unless I desired to use the pull down menu and change them.
It would just be nice to automate a task that I have to remember to do each time. That is why I reverted back to v2.2, because I don't need the addtional functionality that the RC1 provided and I couldn't get the pre-set profile to stick. I then would occasionally forget to set it manually and have to remux again.
So if I just need to adjust those four lines in the Settings.xml file what changes do I need to make to change my colors as indicated in my original post? So for example, the coding Red="190" Green="190" Blue= "190" indicates a color? How would I change that to yellow for example?

Yellow is Red="255" Green="255" Blue= "0". See the chart a little ways down from the top:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexadecimal_color
And yes, Red="190" Green="190" Blue= "190" is a color, a light grey color:

Perfect! I had no idea what the numbers referred to.
Before when I picked arbitrary values, the program would not open due to incorrect values in the settings file. Now I can do some experimenting. Thanks for clarifying how the system works !
P.S. By the way, somewhere in the documentation I seem to remember reading that the program defaults to the settings stored in the user profile and then to the application profile. It took me a while to find that the user setttings were actually in each user's local settings folder not the user settings folder itself.

That did the trick. I just needed to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks again to you both for your assistance. Now I've got it working perfectly with my chosen default settings.

Is there ways to apply the "set colors and transparencies" settings for all the subtitles? I do not fancy colorful subtitles. It is Ok as long as all the subtitles can be shown correctly.
Here is a case: I have to adjust the "set colors and transparencies" settings for each of them in order to show them correctly. e.g. lines 21 and 22 of the "test.sup"
http://rapidshare.com/files/330992836/test.sup.rar
Edited: The "Edit all" does not apply the settings to all of the subtitles.

I am trying to add subtitles to my Cube DVD which does not have any subtitles.
I followed this guide here (http://forum.videohelp.com/topic338721.html).
The first part, where SubtitleCreator is supposed to do everything for you failed miserably - there was an error at some point by one of the tools and obviously the rest of the chain was broken.
Then, I was following the second part of the guide, using the tools manually. Well, I got the subtitles in, but the subs are quite ugly: some subtitles are with yellow color, some with white, there is strong pixellation (whereas there is supposed to be anti-aliasing) including strange discolored pixels, etc. I thought I made a mistake so I started from scratch and done it all over again, only to get the same result.
Maybe SubtitleCreator does not support the new version of the tools?
What might be causing the wrong colours and pixellation?
Is there a better way to add subtitles nowadays?
Thank you.

Hello.
Is there a way to change the working folder?
I have a situation where all my apps are on partition where is not enough free space (but nothing happens there neither) and it looks like thas SC is creating files in ..sc\examles\ folder before it moves them to output folder.
I'm using AVS2DVD to convert my mkv's to dvd for my parents; and SC is a part of that package...
Been looking through menus, and just couldn't find any settings where one could set the path for this 'working' folder....

Just going almost off topic here, my version(s) of SC no longer work after I installed the .Net Framework 4.0 (WinXP Pro, SP2). Neither 1.9.0 nor 2.2 will even start (this is also a Paint.Net issue) but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this? If you have a WORKING SOLUTION, please reply or email me at Paulyclees@yahoo.com

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can shed some light on this problem for me.
I've started using Subtitle Creator (latest version) recently. Well, I mean I've started to entertain the idea of using it but what I don't get is why the subtitles I create look nice on the preview window, but then when I save them to .sup and author them to a dvd in IFOedit, the subs end up looking all messy.
ie: Tatty, splodgy outlines, some of the black outline is bleeding into the white font face and vice versa.
There is are also little black dots and blobs that seem to have strayed from the outline of the font.
I swear I made subtitles years ago using Subtitle Creator and didn't have this problem.
I have all the colours set correctly. I know how to do that.
What I've noticed is that if I click "Display actual output.(no AA)", then I see just how tatty my subtitles are going to look.
The look matches how my subs end up looking perfectly. Ugly. :(
Why does Subtitles Creator not add "anti aliasing" to the subs when creating them?
Does everyone have this problem and just puts up with it, or is it just me?

Hi,
The actual subtitles on a DVD use only 4 colors (1 is for transparency). Hence it is impossible to implement an AntiAliasing (AA).
However SubtitleCreator can display a better AA on the computer screen that doesn't have this limitation. However this is just for the fun of it because it is not possible to do the same on the DVD.
So in conclusion, it is impossible to get a good AA on a DVD whatever the authoring program you are using.

MaestroSBT creates an excellent antialiased subtitle. I make SST subs for authoring with Muxman. I've never created subs using SubtitleCreator so I don't have any idea about your problem

Are we talking about different things here? Yes, one color is the transparency color and that leaves 3 more. I use black for the outline, light grey for the main color, and dark grey for the antialiasing.

Hi,
So far, SC is still the fastest vobsub generator. But I can't get the output to be displayed on my hdplayer (Egreat R200) while vobsub created by txt2vobsub and EasySUP can be displayed fine. Even when I open a vobsub that works with me by SC, and save as another vobsub, the latter would not show.
What am I to do?
manono

It must be creating funky VobSubs. Try opening them in SubResynch (included as part of the VobSub package) and then resave them:

I want to convert srt to sup. my srt is Persian lang. In SC I select a unicode arabic/persian font "B Roya".
The Problem is for adding music symbol ♫ that in SC display like squire (⎕).
If I use western character with arabic/persian like "هستم Julie من" and select a arabic/persian font, automatically SC use a western font ("Microsoft Sans Serif", I guess) for display western character.
So, I want know how I change this default western font to "Arial" or "Times New Roman" instead "Microsoft Sans Serif'"; in order to resolve problem of display ♫.

a solution may be editing "Settings.xml" in program's Data directory, in Value of ♫:
♫ replace with <f Name='Times New Roman', Type='Bold', Size='32'>♫</f>
This has a problem, that is fixed size & type, but I want to determine font only.

Any chance for other than ANSI encoding support?
If you are still interested when I get home tonight I'll add that in. It looks like it just needs additional entries in the settings file used to populate the encoding options for the utf-8 and utf-16 code page support so you can manually choose the options instead of just ANSI. I'll also add a fallback in the code in case the currently selected encoding fails to try to autodetect the encoding of the subtitle file as well.

If anyone else has any features they want added or bugs looked at I can look into it. I can't promise a turnaround as short as the Unicode fix, since that was a quick to find and isolated change, but I'll try. Outside of pushing a bug fix and a minor feature addition to delaycut I'll be busy for the next couple of days so it might be a bit before I can look into it.

Hi amtm,
It's good to see that you're adding new features to SubtitleCreator. However, you must let everyone clearly know that the version you are providing is not an official release of SubtitleCreator.
Otherwise there will be some confusion and this may lead to big problems for the users. If for example an official 2.3rc2 version is released by us. How will users differenciate between the version you are releasing and ours?
Maybe you already have contacted Erik Vullings (Paddington on this forum) and agreed on that subject. In that case forget about my comment.
Otherwise, I would advice that you contact him (send me a PM and I'll send you his email). In the meantime, you can slightly change the name of the fork of SubtitleCreator you are developping. (Like has been done for VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod for example).
Cheers

Actually we are not because we don't have time. Erik stopped working on it and personally I don't really have enough free time. However if somebody wants to work work on a new version he has to change the name of the program because you'll never know. Someday myself or Erik could work on it and there would be much confusion within the users.

I know it is too much to hope for an update at this point, but does anyone know of a quick easy method, program, etc. for performing this task:
Search and replace all instances of ♪ with <s m/>, and then saving with ANSI encoding?
SC doesn't recognize UTF-8 encoding which is pretty common with SRT files... and what Siddus said above, no idea what to do with github.
Edit: Github is now gone. Guess that's the end of that.
