Is this part of code available in the SourceForge?
Look at the SVN tab and you'll get the up to date source code, including last bug fixes.

sorry sorry, manusse
about the lines extra pixel at the bottom
that very day i already know where the bug came from
but you havent read / reply yhte thread thats why i never mention, and after that my computer went down
and after computer back busy, that why now then mention the cause of it.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h245/vaxva/make_dvd/DISTORT_BOT_00003.jpg
the cause of the extra dirty pixel at the bottom line
after 5 times of TESTING, and found that it is cause by MANUIPATE sup with SC
TIMES i tried
1)i manunipate and mux (bcuz u intro me this function) -DIRTY
2)i tried again making sup manuipate and mux -DIRTY
3)i make sup with SC but never manuipate and mux -CLEAN
4)i make sup with SC and manuipate again -DIRTY
5)i make sup with SC and manupate in DVDsubedit -Clean
so conclusion tells me just make SUP with SC and don't use that function ^^
-----------------------------------
Can I remind the developers
about wants this to be fixed?
@WARP LINE = ON, If lines are too long on a LANG which doesn't have SPACING SC has a missing character on the LEFT
example: korean, japanese, chinese

sorry sorry, manusse
Sorry to frighten you. It was just that you were asking many times the same.
I like the results of your investigations. At least it gives us some clues about where the problems can come from. At present, Paddington and myself don't have time to code but I am sure I will find some in september. Maybe Paddington will also. And at that time we will surely have a look and fix this bug. So be prepared to help us testing the fixed version, in a few months. We will need testers'help.
About the missing character, I could reproduce it. When we have some time, we'll have a look at it.

Hi all
I've some problem with converting srt to vobsub by SC.
- When I save as the srt to vobsub with option video format PAL (from Menu Format),my PC play movies perfectly. But When i play movies (with that idx/sub) on my divx standard alone player, the player cannot play the movies and crash (I have to turn the power off).
- However, when I save as the srt to vobsub with option video format NTSC, the divx player play movie with sub perfectly , but the subtitle is displayed out-of-sync with the movie when i play movies on PC
Can someone help me to make the sub work perfectly on both PC and divx player? Thanks so much.
P/S : My divx player have local brand ^^.Sorry my bad English

Hi,
-I don't know why you have a problem with your PAL subtitle. Did you try to open it with subresynch. If it works, it must be a problem with your SAP.
-For the NTSC timings bug, have a look at this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1022835&postcount=197).

I get this when AA = OFF
i <k> the most bottom line </k>
not i don't want AA=ON, is that i find it very ugly while watching AA=ON on my TV+DVD player or monitor+software player
and one of the reason i sugested, having able to do different color per sup pic like commercial dvd not using <K> is that <K> cannot apply fade.... using...... dvdsubedit
1) it is more flexible like converting it to vobsub will definetaly get the color, but <k> i'm not very sure....
if vobsub gonna takes it into account...

I installed Subtitle Workshop on a pretty new system with Windows XP x64. And although the movies do play fine in ZoomPlayer most of them won't start inside Subtitle Workshop - the video preview window remains black and no audio is playing as well.
Any idea what could be the problem and how to get rid of it? Thanks you very much!

About the posibility of transforming hd sup files in idx, very nice feature that doesn't seem to work as it should though. The subs saved are very hard to ocr because somewhere in the downsizing process or color reducing the fonts become jagged (as if coroded by some process :)), which makes them different from one another. Tried changing transparency, and colors but can't get any good results.
Here's the sup file I'm trying: http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=62a247f
Also, should it read sup files from bluray (demuxed with xport)? (doesn't seem to work here..)
manusse

Hi Daodan,
I am (unfortunately) back from vacations. The HD-SUP import function works only with HD-SUP files, not with BD-SUP (blu-ray) yet. This is on my plans for the future but there are many bugs to be solved first, I think.
When SC opens an HD-SUP, the internal process followed is the following:
1°) Convert the sup from 1920x1080 to SD definition (at present 720 x 576 but in next version 720 x 480 will also be available). The color is not changed
2°) Determine the brightest and the darkest colors of the subtitle.
3°) Replace each color by one of darkest/brightest/(0.5*(brightest+darkest)
That's the process applied.
I think part of the problem you see could be avoided by using an anti-aliasing filter before reducing the image size. Maybe I will add some settings in future versions to do this.

As the message says, it's presently unsupported by the wizard. However you can do it by hand. See here for explanations:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1601289&forum_id=410032
If you don't need to keep the menus it's not important as VobBlanker is used only for menu restoration.

hi,
a couple of questions:
1) is it possible to change and remember the default fonts? every time I start the program, it loads the last srt file, but forgets about the fonts and shows Arial Narrow/Bold/22pt. Since I never use that one, I have to recall which one I did use last, and change it accordingly. Same thing about the other formatting settings.
2) If my system setting for "Language for non-Unicode programs" (Control Panel->Regional and Language Options) is e.g. Russian, then the only font script I can use is Cyrillic, regardless of the "Character Encoding" setting. If I want to create subtitles in "Western" or any other script, I need to change my regional option, which requires Windows restart. Of course, this means that I cannot use Cyrillic or any other script until the next restart, which is very annoying.
thanks!

Hi kto,
About point 1)
Did you use the last version (2.2)? The profile should work better now and they will normally fix the font problem you mention. The last used profile will be remembered. However, there is no link between the srt file and the profile but if you always use the same fonts it will be ok.
Choose Format->Change Font and choose the font you want to use.
When you are satisfied, choose Profiles -> Save Current Profile.
Then choose a name and save it.
Then (and I need to fix this remaining small bug, I thought I had !!!!!) choose Profiles -> Apply Profile -> the name of your newly created profile.
And that's it. Now it will be automatically selected each time you will restart SubtitleCreator.
Another way of remembering the font is to use the font button (F) at the bottom of SC and choose a font for your subtitles. This one will be embedded in the srt file but it's only valid for one line (Note that this is not a "standart" srt tag, but is specific to SC). Also it seems this button disappeared from the English interface!!! But it's still there in the French interface... One more bug to fix in a next release.
About point 2), I'll let Paddington answer you.
Cheers

manusse,
thanks for the tip. I've also noticed that "position subtitles: width" setting is not saved in the profile automatically, one has to update it in the profile manager.
btw, is there a list of supported srt tags somewhere? (like <b> <i> <f> <s M /> etc.)
regarding 2), it would be ideal if the program supported Unicode, of course. but at least some kind of fix to the problem mentioned above would be great.

My wife is born in Romania, and I actually started SubtitleCreator for her parents, who would like to watch DVDs with Romanian subtitles (there are not that many). I'm Dutch, however (and so is she), currently living in Australia, and besides Romanian, I also speak German, French, and Spanish (although the latter two are a bit rusty).
Huh? your wife left you to go to australia because you spoke too many languages? ;)

3)i make sup with SC but never manuipate and mux -CLEAN
4)i make sup with SC and manuipate again -DIRTY
5)i make sup with SC and manupate in DVDsubedit -Clean
so conclusion tells me just make SUP with SC and don't use that function
...
I have the same problem; I've demuxed a subtitle stream with PgcDemux and manipulated the SUP with SC 2.2 for adjusting colors and delay, then saved the SUP and muxed with MuxMan 0.15R. When played with PowerDVD, subtitles have extra dirty pixels at the bottom line.
I've tried all versions of SC from 1.92 to 2.2, same problem.
If I use DVDSubEdit for just changing colors (unfortunately DVDSubEdit can't re-time SUPs at the moment), no problems with the muxed DVD.
I think the problem is related to the re-encoding routine of the "Manipulate SUP" tool of SC; maybe DVDSubEdit don't re-encode the subtitles images, just change colors attributes (dimensions of original and saved SUP are always the same). Why SC re-encode subtitles images if I want to change only some attributes, like colors and TimeCode?
Example of dirty pixels:
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/2244/pdvd000hx3.png
I can give you the original and modified SUP for testing purpose, just tell me where I have to send it.
Thanks for the attention and for the great program.
Paddington
20th August 2007, 08:28
Shit, that still happens - as you can see, dirty pixels are actually due to the height of the subtitle, as specified in the SUP file, being one pixel to high. Some players ignore that when all data is used (mine does, so it doesn't bother me), other players wrap the data around and start from the top (so the dirty pixels actually are equal to the first line of the subtitle). Still, it's SC's mistake, and I'll have to fix it.
Send me a PM with your email address if you want to test it.

Hi,
A question on the "Synchronize timing with original SUP" feature.
I use it to synch my currently loaded SRT with the original dvd's SUP timing. Very useful feature.
However I notice SC only sync the start time of the matching(linked) subtitle lines. How can I get it to sync the end time as well?
thanks!:thanks:

This feature is not existing. How would that work? Normally the duration of one sub has nothing to do with the movie frequency and could remain the same?
Or do you mean something else?

To kumi,
Thanks for the info.
This feature is not existing. How would that work? Normally the duration of one sub has nothing to do with the movie frequency and could remain the same?Hi manusse,
The original SUP is in Japanese, I downloaded a English SRT and loaded it into SC.
Translation is good, but timings are badly off.
So I'm using SC's sync feature to sync the SRT timings with the SUP, line-by-line.
Unfortunately, I found SC only synchronizes the start time of a subtitle line. I need it to sync the end time of a line also. Very obviously both start and end time of the SRT must be synch-ed with the original SUP to prevent time overlapping and duration problems, otherwise what's the point of synching?
Thanks for listening. I suspect I'm talking Greek, so let me know if you want a screenshot.:thanks:

@shearerc,
I see your point. I was not thinking to a translation but to a frequency change. In this case the sub duration doesn't have to change...
Did you try the Tools->Translate SUP or VobSub to SRT menu? It will help you create a empty SRT file and then you can just copy/paste your translation line by line. I think it's still a beta feature so tell us if it's OK and if you use it tell us about the bugs you find (if any).

Ok about colors, but you can't change the timing of subtitles inside SUP files with DVDSubEdit, you can only do it inside VOBs.
The subtitles I have to edit are only in SUP format and I'm forced to use the SUP editing function of SubtitleCreator.
Another solution is to convert to SRT, change the delay, and then convert back to SUP, but it's time consuming and error prone.
I prefer to wait for a fixed version of SubtitleCreator.

yesterday, i got another problem with SC wizard
i making R2 Japan Anime series 1~6 vol of SUP for DVD using SC wizard
(normaly it doesn't happen)
but this time, there is a issue on it, all volume 1~5
there is a slight FREEZE like 0.5sec in the almost end of PGC while watching the DVD output by SC wizard (tested with 2 DVD Player)
if i watch on PC the freeze part will not occured but the line of SUPIC will disappered earlier than it supposed to.
i burned many many times and try many method but always freeze in the same part(towards ending a few sec before) on different volume of DVD
i tried BURNING THE RAW .ISO there isn't this freeze / choke
i open the RAW .ISO and the outout of this SUP-DVD by SC wizard with voblanker. and found that chapter of original and SC output is sligntly different in time
does the dev. need sample? i can cut out that part and make in very small size
----------------------------------------
i wondering if it is the cause if last line of SUP is longer than VIDEO?
my volume 5 last line
301
00:48:41,650 --> 00:48:43,800
让我们一起度过美好的时光吧
the voblanker shows that the PGC only have 00:48:42,+++
-------------------------------------------
@ercofra
sorry i was thinking that you cannot position the SUP using SC
thats why i sugested dvdsubedit
as in the past in 2.2.2 beta i relised the timing in SC manipulate is not what we had when making the SUP
i got a better way for you, which doesn't need to convert back SRT
1) demux your DVD to VOBSUB
2) resync each part with that powerful program i think vobsub has the most effecivness resync out there where you can adjust by portion or by whole. after adding delay or whateverso just use SC wizard and choose the idx like SUP
ten you no need to wait for the manipulate to be fixed.

I don't really understand. What do you mean by "found that chapter of original and SC output is sligntly different in time". Are you talking about the DVD chapters? If this is the case, you can try playing with the Celltimes.txt file in the SC_TEMP directory and see if by changing the time of the last chapter you can fix the bug.
Tell us about your results.

@manusse
sorry i already deleted away the original celltimes with the ISO. now leaving with only outoput of SC in burned DVDR.
but nevermind if i meet again this situtation in future i experiment again.
-----------------------------------------
i really hope there is a way to MAKE overlaping subtitle like commercial / homebrew DVD subtitle. i do think that this is subtitle basic performance ability but SC keep producing blinking subtitle if i want it to do so.
i belived those homebrew subtitle i saw is produce by another application other than SC.
i wanna do this
00:00:10,000 -> 00:00:20,000
ON TOP SCREEN, ONSCREEN TEXT
00:00:10,000 -> 00:00:13,000
bottom subtitle 1
00:00:14,000 -> 00:00:16,000
bottom subtitle 2
00:00:19,000 -> 00:00:22,000
bottom subtitle 3
--------------------------------------
i written in below doesn't work even there is 00:00:00,001
difference or not
00:00:10,000 -> 00:00:13,000
ON TOP SCREEN, ONSCREEN TEXT||||||
bottom subtitle 1
00:00:13,001 -> 00:00:14,000
ON TOP SCREEN, ONSCREEN TEXT|||||||
will aday SC able to do so?
seems like SC automatic trying to make the GAP longer that cause blinking

i really hope there is a way to MAKE overlaping subtitle like commercial / homebrew DVD subtitle
The DVD specifications doesn't allow for a 1 ms difference between two subtitles. There must be an integer number of frames between two subtitles. (1/50 s in PAL/SECAM and 1/60 s in NTSC).
The DVD specifications doesn't allow for overlapping subtitles. However it must be possible to generate an overlapping subtitle using 3 timings like (maybe the values need to be adjusted a bit more):
1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:00,980
Text 1
2
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:01,980
Text 1|||||||||||
Text 2
3
00:00:02,000 --> 00:00:03,000
|||||||||||
Text 2
For this to work in SC you must select the following options:
-Increase the Line Count to 13 (see on the right of the window)
-Deselect Wrap Lines (Format menu)
-Select Format -> Align Vertically -> Top
However I don't know if this will flicker or not. We may add this to our list of new features for the future. For now on, we are concentrating on important bugs that need to be fixed before introducing new features.
Thanks for your patience.
Manusse
PS: A sample of such a commercial SUP (or SUB/IDX) file where the overlapping is present would help us. If you have one, just cut a piece of it and post it or PM it to me.

this short sample shows of
+ overlapping flickerless
+ 2 color font face single subpic possible even viewing with dvdsubedit
+ very clean smooth round outline (SC's very jitter when aa=OFF, even worst with AA=on)

So what is the conclusion? this is a BUG or SECRET?
does SC making .SUP takes graphic card/driver?, monitor?, display resolution / frequency into account?
can anyone help testing on your system & reply result with version please..... please....~

Hi Anime,
There is no secret inside SubtitleCreator. The full code is open and available.
does SC making .SUP takes graphic card/driver?, monitor?, display resolution / frequency into account?
No. SC's code has nothing to do with the graphic card.
I see two possibilities:
1°) You are not using the same standard as Mtz (I mean PAL/NTSC)
2°) There is a new bug that has been introduced between version 2.1b4 and 2.2.
What you can do to verify point 2) is download and install an old version and try again to generate the SUP file. All the archived versions of SubtitleCreator are available here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=120228&package_id=130981
Another alternative: if Mtz has time he can install V2.2 and try to see if he can generate the same SUP (without blinking) with V2.2. Two different version of SubtitleCreator can cohabit on the same PC without any problem.

OK, I made the test again using 2.1b4 and 2.2.
With 2.1b4 > flickering > no
With 2.2 > flickering > yes
I loaded the test DVD resulted by using SUP created with the both versions of SC in DVDSubEdit.
For the 2.1b4 the duration is reported as "infinite" by DVDSubEdit for each subpicture (excepting the latest 2 subpictures).
Fir the 2.2 the duration are not inifinite and looks like a normal subtitle. I changed the V2.2 Subpictures all to infinite and resulted a non-flickering subtitle stream. Unfortunately if somebody want to make all subpictures infinite in DVDSubEdit, needs to do it manually for each subpicture.

Hi Mtz,
As I don't have a version of SC 2.1b4 and your profile and fonts, I would appreciate if you could create and post the exact same sample as you've posted here (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1051719&postcount=240) with SubtitleCreator V2.2 so that I can look at the difference and try to understand what's happening.
However, I think your explanation that the subtitles have no end is very convincing especially for overlapping subtitles.

omg thanks mtz for testing... and finding out the "SECRET"
but i think subtitlecreator by default, when {END time} and next subtitle {start time} is same should auto inf.
____________________________________
and something else i would like to mention here is.
sc doesn't seems to auto warp anymore if
|||||
is in the line.
____________________________________
sc doesn't accept srt with a blank line like, it will produce error msg.
2
00:00:10,520 --> 00:00:13,114
- Good morning, Miss Ratched.
- Mr. Washington.
____________________________________
lastly i like to see the function subtitlecreatle
2
00:00:10,520 --> 00:00:13,114
<top>Good morning, Miss Ratched.
<bottom>Mr. Washington.
so user doesn't even have to count how many || to break in between. and is it possible if able to {top-down, R2L}
in between? but not the entire srt like <R2L>
