@nurbs + delacroixp

thanks vm for your time and responses. I'll do some research and re-post another shoot-out when I have more knowledge (and I find someone with a Blu-ray). It's been useful. :)

tout est bon msieur

@mrmrmrmr + ettin

Worth a shot: I had problems until I moved workfiles to a new "c:\video" directory, renamed the files to a basic 8.3 format (like abcd.***) no periods/dashes/underscores etc etc, and recoded from there. I also made sure I had the latest version of all the components in the right place. From then on it's worked superbly.

I did that, but it doesn't change it.

@Chengbin

look at mkvmaudio.avs

then, it is the encoder that set mhz, and automkv will not set it

@ettin

do yourself the d2v file and point automkv to this file

Are these file names supposed to end in "length" which is mis-spelled?
ffmpeglenght.bat
ffmpeglenght.vbs
movielenght.bat

It's misspelled all over the place by the way. Thought you'd want to know.

Hi buzzqw,

I am getting the below error while starting the encode. If there are 3 jobs in the queued job, the same error appears everytime before starting to encode asking for to press ok button.

I am using the latest version of AutoMKV 0.98.4. anyclue on this.

Thanks in advance.

Instead of attaching a 100K BMP, can't you just say the error was:

Unable to copy c:\movie.dga to D:\AUTOMKV\temp\movie.dga

how does 'RIP ALL SUBS' work ? Does it really rip all subs from the vob and sums it into the resulting mkv ?
Why do I ask ? I would like to make a backup with all the subtitles that are available from the disc...

Hello everyone,

[About 98.5 version]

I'm just a newbie ripper, and have no programming experience, so I come up with a couple of ideas:D

First thing "help balloons" (I mean the ones that pop out the first time you point the mouse on any menu);
could a feature like "right clicking the menu keeps the balloon alive" be implemented?
I'm not a fast reader, but I bet no one can read the mvdegrain menu help without screanshooting it!

Second thing: I've seen that opening files through the IFO file enables the possibility to extract chapters, I tried to use it but something went wrong, the final muxing failed, mkvmerge refused to mux the final file because he didn't recognize the chapter's file format!

Finally I really liked the idea of AW01545 to have an option to insert in the final mkv all the logs, and maybe other optional text files too, they could be very useful (if AutoMkv had some kind of viewer of course... :D)

AutoMKV tends to crash when previewing crop settings with width1280px setting, do you know of this behavior and how to do upres the right way with AutoMKV ?

I have been using automkv for a bit and it's working wonderfully. If my audio is Ac3, if it's DTS it pukes in my face. I must be doing something wrong.

Basically i am compressing my movie collection down to save on space and for audio all i want to do is a direct stream copy into an MKV container. But when ever i try this with a DTS stream automkv dies becuase avisynth dies. I have tried this on 2 seperate computers with 2 different dvd's of mine both ripped with dvdfab. Any ideas ?

15:55:09 !!!!ERROR!!!!
15:55:09 !!!!ERROR!!!! - TFM: Illegal transitions found in dvd2avi project file!
Please use the fixed version that has been created
in the same directory as the original d2v file.

i have tried installing the latest version of the codecs / tools listed in the wiki.

Like i said only with DTS, AC3 no problems.

@lcdguy
workaround: leave dts unchecked in AutoMKV. Demux dts from Disc and mux it after encoding into newly created mkv with mkvmerge.

still no love. I tried selecting the audio strack as None, but it still failed. I think i am going to have to use gordian knot for the DTS movies.

Try a manual mux with MKV (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120648)merge (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/MKVToolnix-Download-43981.html) .

that was already suggested. The issue is that i can't encode the video portion into a x264 compressed file as automkv fails that part even when i have no audio track selected.

Please All AutoMKV Users, Read this POST

Hi All
as i already said, my spare time is very limited, AND it's very close to end developing automkv

AutoMKV was my second big program developed, and so it's structure is very complex, and, no fear of mention, very hugly programmed.
In next weeks i will publish the (maybe) last update to automkv.
But don't fear, automkv is opensource (gpl 3), so.. anyone can download the source code and modify it

BUT since programming is an hobby i will develop other applications, just maybe a little slower than now
AND NOW it's time to develop new applications, maybe different from automkv , but in heart not.

As time i will publish this post , i will also start a new thread about my last creation: HDEncoderToX

Best encoding to all

that was already suggested.

The issue is that i can't encode the video portion into a x264 compressed file as automkv fails that part even when i have no audio track selected.
Ooops ...

buzzqw
10th March 2009, 19:33
No nikio, don't do :eek:

even in first post of this thread i have mentioned my lack of time.. and since a second new born is coming, my spare time will dramatically shorter

BUT, as most of senior automkv user's know, i often change idea , and i am the first one to hope for a brighter future for automkv

@lcdguy

reauthor your dvd with dvdshrink, maybe a authoring issue

BHH

P.S. ot try hdencodertox ;)

@Frozen-Figo
be sure to select the right pgc
OR feed automkv with the first vob
OR do your self the d2v project (with dgindex) and automkv will ask for audio file

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I have to learn another program, AutoX264. I'll see what I can do, as I don't have much free time (although I will have more soon, after school takes a break. But the preliminary impression of AutoX264 is not good (sorry buzzqw) because I can't get it to encode anything. I'll play with it more when I have time, and cry for help then if I still can't get it to work.

I just want to say thank you to buzzqw for creating this wonderful GUI. Incredible, yet simple (once configured). Your work is greatly appreciated, and it has helped me greatly to encode video, and learn the art of encoding video with x264.

One suggestion to AutoX264. Please make the GUI simpler. Some of the simpler functions are hidden away (like the quene and encode button). Maybe less MeGUI like? What I loved about AutoMKV was how automatic it was. It only takes 4 mouse clicks to start an encode. I'm still having some problem with profiles, as sometimes it doesn't load properly (don't take this seriously yet, as I need to play with this more)

Best of luck on your next great software.

Unfortunately free software means free programmers...

Anyway before leaving, I hope that you will fix the crop preview crash, that is the only real problem I've encountered, machser had trouble at 1280px, I had to renounce to previewing crops of a 720px (I used DVDFab too)

And finally, best wishes for your second new born!!

Chengbin
11th March 2009, 04:25
Buzzqw, even though you're gonna stop developing AutoMKV, can you give us regular updates that updates the many applications used by AutoMKV? That shouldn't take much time right?

Tiberiust

+1 for Chengbin's outcry!

Congrats on yr 2nd Buzz, I've got two and yep - it takes a lot of time and energy out of your life. but plsssss don't leave AutoMKV unfixed, the preview crash is the biggest issue and the 'far too quickly disappearing' help pop-ups are frustrating, plus not being able to add-to queue after it's started.

R U sure you're making the right decision with this? Is HDConvertToX gonna take over from AutoMKV (can it do 'SD' DVDs, Is it only 'X'264?)? AutoMKV has been, and will continue to be, great for me as a novice (I've tried almost everything else) and the beautiful fact about is that as the user's knowledge grows the program grows with you...so yu can start from scratch, recode sommat well first time and progress to legend status within one small neat program/interface.

Whatever yu decide thanks v.much from me - I've got my DVD collection and loads of TV progs nice and small and therefore portable, in outstanding quality all on one click access for 'her who must be obeyed' - couldn't have done it wout AutoMKV
Cheers

- PC3 abt 65 pct on all 8 cores
not being able to add-to queue after it's started.
Any news on your low CPU utilization issue ?

I run 2 clones of AutoMKV by default ... on 2 entirely separate HDD's (separate partitions alone, wont do ... DGIndex is very HDD intensive before the X264 main event).
I don't usually run 2 encodes simultaneously but running a clone while encoding is usefull in setting up a second batch ... ready to run when your first clone encoding finishes.
I was also thinking that it might be possible to generate the queue.ini text files and somehow add them to a running batch ... by modify the the .bat file etc.

It's all good

Hi everybody! I begin to use AutoMKV (version 0.98.4). I like how AutoMKV coding video. I am coding video ftom DVD-video discs or from BDRip (MKV h264) to MKV conteiner usin codec x264. I has download lastests versions of codecs from http://x264.nl (x86 and x64). When I replace x264.exe in directory AutoMKV 0.98.4\exe\Encoder on new version of codec (x86) video is coding fine, but I using Windows Vista x64 and I want to use x64 version of encoder (may be better performance) and when I replace on x64 version of codec it don`t want to coding. Please help, how to decide this problem?

buzzqw: i recently found automkv, just what i needed - big thx!! until now, i was stuck with handling all those tiny tools in a stand-alone-manner since there was no good gui. i never liked agk.

heres some notes:

x) i use large fonds (120 dpi instead of 96 dpi), which makes most entries unreadable. maybe enlarge window or force small fonts, or - if nothing else - include screenshots of various gui-screens, so we can look up what the options are labeled with?

x) there is smth. 'bout that "edit queue entry". it does mix up the audio-tracks and pgc. i tried queue 4 dvds and when i reedit a queue, i get the wrong audio-tracks and wrong runtime in main settings. seems like it still takes those from one of the other dvds, maybe those of the last dvd i manually browsed too.

x) recently i tried about 10 dvds -> preripped dvdfab5, whole disc 1:1 then with automkv 0984-> avi/xvid/2passSAP/lame128/1200mb

most were perfect, even episodic dvds with 3 episodes on a disc
2 dvds had audio-sync-error although i did try dvdshrink to get a single pgc. as i see in the temp-dir, dgindex did note and fix a field transition, but still it was unsynced. gonna do those with all those standalone-tools now.
1 dvd had dgindex-problem. automkv called up dgindex, but the dgindex did nothing but wait. so i opened the vobs and suddently dgindex started working on them and everything else went fine afterwards. it was a classical opera video and the audiotrack was lpcm.

Hi. I've used AutoMKV a few times and after all the conversion and stuff nothing happens! No .mkv file is output, all I have is the temp files and the log.

I'm a recent user of this program though I've been backing up dvds for many years. I don't use lots of options anymore and mostly have used autogk for the past couple years.

appologies if this has been covered already (please point me in the right direction), I did a google search and doom9 forum search but both didn't seem to yield anything useful.

I use dvd decrypter ifo mode, anydvd and vista up to date. when i load a movie with default settings, using nero aac, divxh264, all subs and 1 audio stream I sometimes get a dialog box saying "pgcdemux input error: reached end of vob too early" and the resulting mkv file does not start at the begining of the movie.

I have pcgdemux version 1.2.0.5

any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Norfolk

1 dvd had dgindex-problem. automkv called up dgindex, but the dgindex did nothing but wait. so i opened the vobs and suddently dgindex started working on them and everything else went fine afterwards. it was a classical opera video and the audiotrack was lpcm.

most probably automkv failed picking correct audio track and ask dgindex to demux an non-existent stream. Setting yourself the d2v/audio solved the problem

@Pintbomb
please update the build of automkv
and use a simplier path , like c:\ripping

usually these kind of errors are due to poor authoring (or ripping), please re-author the ripped dvd with dvdshrink

CPU Utilisation: Still working on it - I get v.close to 100pct on 2nd pass on my Core2 E4400. Core i7 still averages 65pct - says gameboy, i asked him to do some screenshots on both passes so it can be verified. FYG we just did Hellboy2 with the same heavy .ini. Core2 took 8h30mins, Core i7 took 1h 40m....he's getting faster

I run 2 clones of AutoMKV by default ... on 2 entirely separate HDD's
So you have like c:\..\automkv and d:\..\automkv2 ? What happens if yu try and run them at the same time? I've only got 1 X Raid 0 drive though.
My biggest prob with adding to queue is lack of planning. I set up a few, start queue, then remember that I wanted to try something else but I have to wait hours before I can start again :(

Well actually ... I have c:\Program Files\AutoMKV_1 and c:\Program Files\AutoMKV_2

I only have my output folder on separate drives.
I've been using AutoMKV to process audio-only tracks ... running 2 encodes quite successfully.
I don't have a quad-core or dual-quad, running at 65% ... 2 encodes should run just fine (especially if single-threaded filters are to blame).
NB Remember to place your original movie files on the correct separate HDD's too.

Better planning may well be the real solution to late entries into the batch file.
However, I find that running 2 AutoMKV clones also helps when I'm encoding a long series.
I can maintain all the settings on one clone while encoding individual movies on the other.

Loading a profile.ini doesn't seam to load all the setting that automkv.ini does on startup.

It's all good

Hi Buzzqw,

Big congrats on your upcoming child. My 3rd just popped out on the weekend, magic.

Anyway, I have a very quick question for you. I convert recorded DTV to mkv or avi using AutoMKV. When I convert to avi, sometimes (about 1/3 of the time) the file size is a fair bit lower than I've specified. I was wondering if you knew what the cause of that might be?

I've noticed it can be worse when there's transmission interruptions in the source mpg. I've tried encoding the same file using AutoGK which created the correct file size, but AutoGK often loses sync when there's transmission interruptions so I prefer to use AutoMKV when possible.

@kretin

what profile are you using ?
i can suggest the balanced, seems (using xvid) that extreme/insane profile will not respect bitrate

also, post log and post the analysis on output file done with avinaptic

thanks

@pintbomb
I don't know if this is your problem, but there is an option to keep the temp files without muxing them, maybe you've checked it?

Another possibility is that the encoder is trying to save you: I've seen that film, beautiful, a masterpiece, but terribly, awfully sad! Don't watch it! :D

I have been using AutoMKV to encode my DVD's and it has been working great. But now all of a sudden it has stopped working. All my settings are the same as before but now it runs through and says done but there is no output file. I even tried re-doing a DVD that it successfully encoded a couple weeks ago and its doing the same thing with that one too. Here is the log from my most recent attempt:

Thanks buzzhq,

I am using the default, 2_pass_balanced

As I mentioned, most of the time it's spot on with file size. This one ended up at 381 Mb instead of 470 Mb.

I don't know if it helps, but I tried the same file with HDConvertX, but instead of 470 Mb it created it as 351 Mb

Hi buzzqw,

Thanks a lot for the excellent tool.

I'm facing problem while converting the .ts file having DTS audio (7 Channels) to mkv or mp4 format.

1) Unable to copy the movie.dga file.

after pressing the enter key

2) "Error parsing parameter file" by the vsrip.

3) AVS says converting file, nothing happens.

For your info I'm attaching the mediainfo file.

I like Automkv very much, and I need the output audio file in ac3 format.

Kindly help on this.

Thanks in advance.

@kretin

what profile are you using ?
i can suggest the balanced, seems (using xvid) that extreme/insane profile will not respect bitrate

also, post log and post the analysis on output file done with avinaptic

thanks

BHH
Hi Buzzqw,

Just an update. I converted using the constant quality profile and it created it at the right size. So I'm assuming it's something in the variable bit rate that's not working quite right.
