@mikeathome

thanks, it is a problem in profile.
Will be fixed in next update.

in meantime you can open the Archos605.xml and add
<aq-mode>1</aq-mode>
<aq-strength>1</aq-strength>
at end of file

BHH

THX man, done.

BTW. this profile works great for Cowon A3, very smooth playback. No glitch. Although the Cowon claims to support higher AVC profile (like 4, 4.1) there are sometimes small glitches (little blocking, 1 or 2 macroblocks only). Maybe something they can fix with a FW upgrade. With an early FW I was not even able to play AVC w/o glitches, now it works...

Hi, for some reason I' ve not used automkv for a few months. In the past, i used automkv 0.95c to encode mkv to wmv for xbox360. Usually the encoding for a 720p film lasted a few hours. It was very fast comparing the others programs for encoding.
Now i try the new versions, but i've different problem.
1) the encoding lasts much more hours than before.
2) the audio and video never are synchronized.
3) during the wmv encoding i find this message : "Encoder failed to retrieve duration attribute from source plug-in.
Trying alternate method now...."

The final result is that the encoder freeze after many hours, and to finish the process i've to block it with control-c.
I try the older version, it is faster but i've the same problem with the synchronization.
The audio in the original file is syncronized, so the problem borns during the encoding.
Any Ideas?

@mikeathome

glad to help :)

@ronyn
sorry ronyn, but wmv support is very very limited.

In next update i will remove the wmv encoder and will use ffmpeg to encode to wmv (wmv7 and wmv8)
but i have strong hope for a command line encoder from Microsoft that work nice with avisynth and will encode even audio

Hi, I am very new in encoding, and trying to reduce the size my DVD-9 (8 gb) mkv files to 4.4 gb so that they can fit on DVD, using Automkv. I think this is a great program for a newbie like me.

But my problem is encoded movies are seem not to be smooth in motion. it is as if their frame rate is below 20 (so you can notice with your eye ), though there is no problem with the frame rate, same as the original file. I am using all automkv (v.0981) options on default .

Can anyone help me with this problem ? thanks

@buzzqw

thanks for your attention. I deleted the log, but encoding again at the moment. I will check the result and post the log.

I noticed that while using the target size (almost half the original) at default options, resolution of the encoded file is almost same as the original movie . can this be the reason ? if so can I change the resolution ?

New installer built for AutoMKV the link is in my signature... I needed to do some Divx encodes and remembered what a great program this was for doing just that...

PS This includes the ability to install Remulade' as an option...

Hello. For a few days i am trying to encode from Mkv to wmv using ffmpeg, but i have problems audio/video synchronization. This is an example :

ffmpeg.exe -i "C:\movie.mkv" -map 0:1 -vn -acodec wmav2 -ac 2 -ab 192000 -ar 48000 -vol 768 "C:\temp\movie.wma"

ffmpeg.exe -i "C:\movie.mkv" -map 0:0 -an -vcodec wmv1 -b 5872k -s 1280x688 -r 23.976 "C:\temp\movie.wmv"

ffmpeg.exe -i "C:\temp\movie.wmv" -i "C:\temp\movie.wma" -vcodec copy -acodec copy "C:\temp\movie_merged.wmv"

The first is for the audio, the second for the video, and the last for merging. The audio goes out of synchronization. I have done a lot of tryies, but the problem is still remain.

Could anyone help me?

Does the audio desync grow as the ratio of 24/30 ? I'm wondering about your choice of 23.976 for the converted video frame rate (vs. 29.97). Or is this the frame rate already in the mkv? If so you shouldn't have to give ffmpeg a frame rate as it will default to the input rate. If the audio desynch is very small and grows through the video length it may be the 23.976 doesn't match the mkv rate by a slight amount.

I also don't understand why you need to break this into three steps.

I also don't understand why you need to break this into three steps.

The choice of 23.976 for the frame rate is because it is the same in the mkv. The audio desync is about 6.3 seconds before the original video. The audio in the original video starts later, but not in the encoded. So i have to delay it. In any case the final file is not seekable, i don't know why.

I would like to ask, is there a chance to change the frame rate in the audio with ffmpeg? How can i do it?

There is another problem too. In many cases, the video length differ from the audio lenght. So, which is the reason?
Can I solve this problem and syncronize both lengths?

I made three steps because i've seen an example for the delaying using two separate inputs(audio and video). I don't know how to use the itsoffset option with only one source with muxed audio and video. So if you know how, please let me know, or if there is a simpler procedure to do this, i would be grateful if you could tell me.

bye

Beside the ability to install Remulade, are the any other advantages to using an installer compares to extracting the folder and using Automkv?

I tried selecting 1 DVD and encoding. below is logfile for my try: final movie size was as I want , but there is some problem with picture. if you remember my last week post, though the quality of picture is very good, it is as if the frame rate is below 20. itis almost like watching webcam with very good picture. Also I did not get any sound, but I guess I have problem with movies with DTS sound. so now I extract video and sound by mkvextractgui, and now trying to encode them again for 4480 mb, also I checke dthe resize to 960x 396 (orginal movie is 8 gb with 1280x528 resolution).

I have a theoretical question. say I have a 1280x580 movie of 4000 bitrate and Total 8 gb.
As far as I know if I encode the movie to final size 4 gb, then bitrate of output movie will be 2000 .

my question, if I resize the output resolution to half of original, 640x290, will the bitrate be 4000 (same as original) for the 4gb output after encode?

and most stupid of me, what is bitrate at all? I don't notice much difference before and after of encoded movies (no resolution change, just the bitrate). thanks

don't use file name with dots, could fail some dos routines

also.. try launching muxing.bat, what is the error ?

@cwilliams255

First of all Welcome to the Forum!

open the movie.avs in virtualdub, what is the error ?

I stopped using hgavs and used QMtrim instead and changed codec to divx and it works fine, so then when I ran muxing.bat it had no error as it re ran last successful file.

I have a theory on what caused the "I don't know what out_width means" error. I was using divxH264 on this encode and the crop settings were "last=movie.Crop(0,36,352,176)". I beleive I read on the project remoulade site that the current minimum size is 320x240. Could that cause the error ?

buzzqw

320x240

yes, very likely

divx264 encoder is very picky about resolution and bitrate

Hi, I've uploaded screenshot to my webspace, it mentions avisynth, I've checked and I definately have this installed and have reinstalled it. I have version 2.5.7. I also opened the .avs file in notepad and checked line 46, this is the last line of loading plugins. I have checked that the dll is where it should be

I hope you can help, thanks

First, thanks to Buzzwq and to the community for keeping AutoMKV alive --I hadn't checked out the forum for a while, it was good to see my favorite encoding tool is still there...

I recently migrated from v0.95c to v0.98.1, and unfortunately it doesn't look very good (here encoding a popular movie with 2 audio tracks and one subtitle track):
in "Start Encoding" direct mode the subtitles don't get ripped properly (different para.lst file, the rip runs but no file is produced)
in "Start Encoding" direct mode the 1st audio tracks fails to encode to ogg, the 2nd is fine
in "Start Queue" indirect mode subtitles are OK but both audio tracks fail to encode to ogg
Regarding the audio encoding I suspect there is a link with this other problem I had with 0.95c (and never reported) that normalization does not always take place: typically when encoding 2 audio tracks, the 1st one is retried with ffmpeg and not normalized, the 2nd one is processed and normalized. I am not sure if v0.98.1 still works the same but in v0.95c it looks like an alternative method is used for the 1st audio track because something is not initialized? The 2nd audio track does not need that alternative method, possibly because the attempt on the 1st track initialized some state. Has the alternative been removed in v0.98.1 ?

I repeated the tests several times to make sure. Below are the logs, I'd be happy for any testing or correcting suggestion, meanwhile I must go back to v0.95c ...

(note also the minor glitch: the 'temp' folder was appended once too many in the indirect mode; this I think is because the field is sometimes displayed with 'temp' included, sometimes not)

Small bug report (ver 0.98.1):
1. When converting from DVD ripped to a HDD folder, and selecting "All Audio Tracks" to convert, the language for the audio tracks is 'und' in resulting mkv
2. The Romanian(rum) audio tracks are set as (rom) in the resulting mkv (when selected individually)

Thank you

just upgraded to 0981
quit often i am receiving job finished and no output (MKV)even if all is setup for auto. it seems to do this strange thing occassionaly on some dvds and some not...
i think this should not be happening if all is setup for auto, program should be able to manage these auto settings and choose best option.
if there is a problem and program stopped working why there is not any POP UP to let us know....it would be usefull
after my holiday i will post logs.....

If I'm not mistaken, the PCH does not support image subtitles (subtitles extracted from DVD). So if you want subtitles, you'll have to download text based subtitles from somewhere.

buzzqw, in the future, could you add an option that allows you to copy the source's video stream but encode audio only?

The popcorn hour does not support graphical (DVD) subtitles (yet). Syabas say they are working on it, and they should be ready soon, but they have been saying that for more than a year now.

Meanwhile, you can burn the subtitles. See Advanced settings / Muxing options.

Hi all

I'm encountering some playback issues with DVD's encoded using AutoMKV. What I am attempting to achieve is a copy (retained AR, Audio etc) but in a smaller file size. I have AutoMKV set-up as follows:-

Basic Settings
Audio
Copy Original

Resize Filters - None
Set WIdth Resolution - Original

Advance Settings
Anamorphic Encoding Checked

The resultant file plays back correctly in Vista Media Centre, but in a 'framed format' (black borders on all sides), it seems to have lost its AR. The file though, is correctly rendered in Media Player Classic Home Theatre. Is there something I'm missing in the set-up process, which is causing the incorrect rendering of the file in VMC?

EDIT

Problem was with FFDshow settings:- solved by checking 'Overlay' settings and 'set pixel aspect ratio in output media type', in case anyone else is having a similar problem.

I just started using this tool out of curiosity. It's really nice for quickly converting DVDs to x264 or whatever. I noticed a few things:

Resizing does not work. When I feed an AVS script with the source larger than 720 and then select 720 as the width, nothing happens. I checked all the AVS scripts within the temp folder and have anything related to the size. I just do my own resize and set the UI to original and to not resize.
Adding jobs to the queue gets going fine, but the Encode button doesn't seem to work, i.e., it launches what seems to be the job but then nothing really happens.
After a queue is completed, I have to exit AutoMKV and reload it and start a new queue of jobs in order for it to work regardless of leaving or deleting its temp folder
On the Advanced Settings tab, the tooltip popup for Anamorphic Encoding pops up once and then you can't get it back unless you start a new AutoMKV session. The same for all the dropdown list items. It would be nice to have a setting for how long those popups stay up too.

Thanks for your efforts. :)

hi
it will not open, error line 4
i did try another movie(original), which has stopped also at the same point. the only difference is movie.avs is able to open in virtual,,,other programs like megui, handbrake dont have problem with those movies, they will finish it ok but results especially deinterlace is better with automkv. ..i think there will be some problem but cant figure it out why program stops with job finished after 10 minutes of encoding...with all setup to auto program should not stop i believe with this error
