buzzqw,

I know there are not a lot of posts lately, but in my case it's because I have no problems with AutoMKV. I use it frequently and it works just fine.

I donated more to AutoMKV. Keep up the good work! Merry Christmas.

Hi,

I wanted to report one more item I found. While converting some DVDs to x264, I noticed the chapters function not working correctly. I'm not sure how this done, i.e., via eac3to or ChapterXtractor. When I extract the chapters manually with ChapterXtractor it works just fine and I wind up remuxing the MKV with the correct chapters afterward.

Here's an example of what the chapters were in the resulting MKV (incorrectly):CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=Chapter 1
CHAPTER02=00:03:16.834
CHAPTER02NAME=Chapter 2
CHAPTER03=00:04:11.334
CHAPTER03NAME=Chapter 3
CHAPTER04=00:12:07.667
CHAPTER04NAME=Chapter 4
CHAPTER05=00:15:09.833
CHAPTER05NAME=Chapter 5
CHAPTER06=00:17:56.666
CHAPTER06NAME=Chapter 6
CHAPTER07=00:25:18.500
CHAPTER07NAME=Chapter 7
CHAPTER08=00:28:09.334
CHAPTER08NAME=Chapter 8
CHAPTER09=00:32:30.834
CHAPTER09NAME=Chapter 9
CHAPTER10=00:39:22.834
CHAPTER10NAME=Chapter 10
CHAPTER11=00:43:35.501
CHAPTER11NAME=Chapter 11
CHAPTER12=00:50:19.334
CHAPTER12NAME=Chapter 12Here's the correct chapters list:CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=Chapter 1
CHAPTER02=00:04:32.400
CHAPTER02NAME=Chapter 2
CHAPTER03=00:05:27.067
CHAPTER03NAME=Chapter 3
CHAPTER04=00:09:08.933
CHAPTER04NAME=Chapter 4
CHAPTER05=00:13:59.600
CHAPTER05NAME=Chapter 5
CHAPTER06=00:18:12.066
CHAPTER06NAME=Chapter 6
CHAPTER07=00:23:02.066
CHAPTER07NAME=Chapter 7
CHAPTER08=00:28:28.066
CHAPTER08NAME=Chapter 8
CHAPTER09=00:33:52.233
CHAPTER09NAME=Chapter 9
CHAPTER10=00:37:25.900
CHAPTER10NAME=Chapter 10
CHAPTER11=00:44:02.733
CHAPTER11NAME=Chapter 11
CHAPTER12=00:50:17.067
CHAPTER12NAME=Chapter 12
I did a little digging and it seems to be using the chapters for the first PGC title for all of them rather than moving to the correct title. Please let me know if you need any other info.

are similar profiles, but the latter is optimized for size and quality (and less speed), the first is optimized only for quality and speed

Is there a CQ optimised profile for DivX H263 (can the regular CQ profile be optimised for quality) ?
(I realise that only users who have purchased the DivX Pro codec will have access to the more advanced features)

A friend recently asked me to 'convert to DivX' his 50xDVD box set of the X Files and use his 2 dual-core PC's (I don't have one).
I chose Dr DivX without realising that AutoMKV supported both DivX H264 and H263 (I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed).
After many false starts and countless crashes by the dear Dr ... I turned to AutoMKV (Xvid) but noticed DivX Pro 6.8.5 .

My encodes are almost '3 times faster' for both 640x480_Q4 and 720x400_Q3 and with almost identical filesizes in some cases (X Files was recorded in 4:3 [season 1-4] and 16-9 [seasons 5-9]).
I'm thrilled with the rapid progress ... batching 50 episodes at a time without any meltdown and encoding roughly '3 per hour' for each PC.
That said, I did notice a slight discrepency in quality ... with Dr DivX being fractionally higher.
I also noticed, after inputing so vast a number of episodes (over 200) that AutoMKV really is a 1-movie operator at best rather than a massive assembly-line encoding factory.
It's a 1-gear Fiat but could be a 6-gear Farrari.

After saving the settings I still had to reset the DivX codec and CQ profile for each new load, gradually increasing the clicks and the potential for error.
AutoMKV wouldn't 'follow my last load' or 'acknowledge a batch addition' resulting in fairly few duplicate encodes and omissions.
The batch encoding process was also a little wierd since encode entries numbering 2-29 would encode before 3 and so on (using double digits all round would make the whole process far better behaved).
However, those are just minor hiccups and annoyances.

In an age of huge movie series, vast numbers of music videos and many small clips ...
the only real paradigm shift is to incorporate a system of watch folders which automatically trolls sub directories and loads up all rips according to a profile
(including crops, dimensions, resizing filter, container, codec, etc) ...
automation at it's greatest !!!

It's all good!

Someone told me to disable psy rd and aq for encoding anime, how do I change that in the profile? Do I write false or 0 to turn off psy rd? Do I need to write 0 for both aq mode and strength?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot.You really shouldn't disable AQ, even for anime, or you might end up like this guy (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143671).

So I should have AQ mode and strength both at 1?AQ mode 1 just means "on". Strength? Feel free to play with it.

I created my own. It's easy to figure out the .XML syntax. Here is one that should work for DXVA and most L4.1 hardware devices (Sage HD extender, Popcorn Hour, etc). I prefer to use CRF instead of 2-pass.

Did you make sure it was indeed AutoMKV that failed and not one of the tools it uses? The bug may be in the tool and not AutoMKV.

I wanted to edit my post with extra information; you were faster ;)

Indeed, the error is produced by xvid_encraw. I wanted to produce an xvid avi file as output. It seems that xvid_encraw does not like pathnames containing 8-bit characters?

EDIT: The issue might somewhat be AutoMKV related. Let me explain. On my Vista-based rig, AutoMKV is installed in my documents folder. My login name is "Δοκιμή" so AutoMKV calls xvid_encraw with the following settings and works fine:

"C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\exe\encoder\xvid_encraw.exe" -pass2 -bitrate 1188 -progress -max_bframes 2 -imax 16 -qpel -quality 6 -vhqmode 3 -pmax 16 -bmax 16 -kboost 20 -odegrade 9 -nopacked -nochromame -bvhq -threads 0 -lumimasking -qmatrix "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\profiles\XviD-profiles\matrix\Sharktooth's EQM v3LR.cqm" -i "C:\AutoMKVRips\temp\movie.avs" -type 2 -avi "C:\AutoMKVRips\temp\movie.avi"

However the following does not work:

"C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\exe\encoder\xvid_encraw.exe" -pass2 -bitrate 1188 -progress -max_bframes 2 -imax 16 -qpel -quality 6 -vhqmode 3 -pmax 16 -bmax 16 -kboost 20 -odegrade 9 -nopacked -nochromame -bvhq -threads 0 -lumimasking -qmatrix "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\profiles\XviD-profiles\matrix\Sharktooth's EQM v3LR.cqm" -i "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKVRips\temp\movie.avs" -type 2 -avi "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKVRips\temp\movie.avi"

Notice the -i & -avi arguments in the latter case: my hunch is that AutoMKV does not pass 8-bit characters correctly, while creating the xvid_encraw bat file. Greek characters are represented in a different way in Windows (UTF-8) and in command line boxes (cp1253).

Or something like that, I'll try to come up with something more concrete. Unless of course what I'm saying here actually makes sense to someone :D

The pathnames in the autoresize pass are actually correct. However in reality the command fails, hence for the autoresize movie size of -1 (btw, can automkv exit with an error if something like that comes up during operation? )

Delving a bit deeper, when viewed with the windows notepad, the contents of the the xvidsingle.bat file are as follows:

"C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\exe\encoder\xvid_encraw.exe" -cq 2.5 -progress -max_bframes 2 -imax 16 -qpel -quality 6 -vhqmode 3 -pmax 16 -bmax 16 -kboost 20 -odegrade 9 -nopacked -nochromame -bvhq -threads 0 -lumimasking -qmatrix "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKV\profiles\XviD-profiles\matrix\Sharktooth's EQM v3LR.cqm" -i "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKVRips\temp\resmovie.avs" -type 2 -avi "C:\Users\Δοκιμή\Documents\AutoMKVRips\temp\resmovie.avi"

However, when I view the same file from a command prompt by using a command like "type xvidsingle.bat", the word "Δοκιμή" is replaced with gibberish characters! As a result, trying to execute xvidsingle.bat produces a "The system is unable to to locate the path blah blah" error...

So, this is not an xvid_encraw issue after all per se, however I don't know how it can be overcome.

audio is already normalized at 100%, more gain will cause audio distortion

Hello. Thank you for the program.

I've encoded an episode of The Office from my DVD into an mp4. Everything looks right except sometimes the following might happen. It'll be easier to explain with pics.

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5945/vlcsnap250085yi9.th.jpg (http://img504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vlcsnap250085yi9.jpg)

The scene starts out like the bottom pic but then it switches every so often to the way it looks in the top pic throughout the scene. Do you know what may be causing this?

Here's the log.

Welcome to the Forum legodude!

i must admit that i haven't understud well your problem ... :o sorry

could you link a fragment of vob ? (save the m2v with dgindex, then use dgsplit to cut 20mb and upload to rapidshare/medifire...)

Here's the rapidshare link.

http://rapidshare.com/files/180132270/VTS_01_1.demuxed.m2v.html

The original vob was declared telecined tff so it was deinterlaced and converted from 29.97 fps to 23.976 fps using automkv's "AUTO" deinterlace and "AUTO" field order settings. It doesn't appear that automkv can detect that my sample is telecined so you may get different results. Thanks.

Edit:
In case you are interested I split my encode into a 15MB file where the problem was occuring. Here's the rapidshare link for it.

First: I am not a specialist, but a least I have already done a successful reencode with AutoMKV :-)

Nnow I have a problem with two MKVs I want to reencode. After Testing Deinterlacing (which works with less than 1FPS on my dualcore with these files, others go multiple times faster!) both show something like that:
http://www.abload.de/img/interlaceigxv.jpg
No matter it I set the deinterlacing options to auto, none or whatever, the resulting video stutters.
A results log of a 30sec. part of one of the movies:

See the middle part, where it takes 24 minutes to analyze, for another movie this works in about 1 minute!
Anyone knows what my problem is with these two movies?

try updating the ffdshow (else.. try with ffmpegsource)

I am using the lated ffdshow tryout, but somehow it always switches to directsource.
What about ffmpegsource? I just have to install it and AutoMKV will recognize and use it automatically?

i was wondering why when i try to resize the mkv file , some files i resize it is okay and some files it is not okay. I mean by okay " some file i play with either MPC or WMP, it is smooth and some are jerky or shutter.

does anyone know how to fix this problem?

how do you set the Display aspect ratio to 16/9?

i want to know which is the best profile for blu-ray movies.

hi
if i want to encode xvid or mkv with CQ around bitrate 1100-1200 how the program needs to be setup...and what profile to choose to get best quality
i did turn off constant q and put bitrate but still getting very high bitrate instead of specified

buzzqw
7th January 2009, 19:52
@CYBERSONIC

ffmpegsource is already bundled with automkv, simply set "Use FFmpegSource" in advanced settings

@ricky man
look at cybersonic issue above

automkv will compute aspect ration automatically, as input file
for blue ray i suggest ... the blue ray profile or the ps3 profile

@deejay.2001

you cannot use a constant quality profile with a capped bitrate (or.. you can but not within automkv)
for use specify bitrate, select a 1 pass profile (or 2 pass) and in advanced settings set the Manual Bitrate

thanks for answers, few more..
i use ajax undone package full setup..
by xvid encoding it uses xvid1.2-dev
it says cpu detected 2, threads in use 1..
1.how do i make xvid to use both cores...?
2.for best quality is better to use CQ-ntizer or capped bitrate around some 1100-1500kbps?
3.what is 2 pass SAP scure profile? (difference with 2 pass SAP)

buzzqw
7th January 2009, 20:32
one thread for decoding avisynth , one for encoding
quality is strictly lined to size
for fixed final size: 2 pass balanced
for unlimited/unknow final size: constant quality
manual bitrate ? never

scure profile will use only 1 b frames, not 2 and will not overweight b frames quantitizer

hi BUZZ
few points to note by xvid encoding:
1. by choosing CBR audio encoding program encodes VBR (meinfo, gspot check)
2.by choosing 2CD encoding it made me 700,700,150 mb (3 files)
(program has chosen very high resolution and more than 2000kbps bitrate-why it does not lower bitrate or resolution to manage fit to 2CD specified)

thanks for answers

look at these values

so.. use a fixed width if you don't like automatic resize based on compression test
and use a 2 pass balanced profile

better suited for general encoding

What process produces the .stats file for x264/ac3 m2ts encoding. I'm not getting any video and I notices that the .stats file is not created. It was working fine yesterday, but none of my overnight encodes seemed to work. Only difference is I updated FFDshow to a newer build to fix stuttering playback of x264 content. Log is as follows.

I get error:

Avisynth open failure:
Loadplugin: unable to load
E:\programs\automkv\exe\filter\warpsharp.dll
(line 47)

I checked the directory, and warpsharp.dll does exist. I'll try replacing it and try again.

EDIT: Nope. Replacing warpsharp.dll did not fix the error.

Edit Again: Commenting the line out allows encoding to proceed, but requires a manual step. Dunno why warpsharp doesn't want to load. Is it possible to prevent warpsharp from attempting to load automatically?

Hi buzz,

thanks for the excellent tool and only 2 questions: (conversion DVD->AVI)

1) how to obtain CBR mp3 tracks? i tried to select CBR in advanced audio options but continuosly,after push "OK",come back to ABR...(no good for standalone..)

2) maybe i made error,but if i selected divx like output codec automkv doesn't work!!! if i can use only xvid and not divx why there is the option?

thanks

OMG! ;) trust me, set in advanced audio option CBR , AND DON'T REOPEN IT

2) you need the divx264 encoder, the new one (the pro version, bundled with command line tool)

Something else I've noticed. It seems like when DGI Index checks a DVD it detects a framerate of 29.97 fps. However, the same x264 encoding pass shows 23.98 fps. I can't verify the framerate of the output file (gspot doesn't show FPS of m2ts extension files, even though they play). Why the discrepancy?

@Crono141

how have you set the width on automkv ?

also.. the change of framerate from 29.97 to 23.976 is due to ivtc (inverse telecine), and it's a good thing (unless you want interlaced output)

BHH

P.S. for m2ts input you can also my autox264

Set width to Autocrop only. Dunno why it said "Original" on this one, because I just finished another one that ran fine without a hitch.
