I've been experimenting with DivX anamorphic encodes (720x576x25) for DVD/DivX SAP playback.
I've been trying mostly CQ 3 and 4 with no guarantee of DivX Home Theater certification.
I googled for a video analysis app like Elecard's StreamEye for AVI to limit avg and peak bitrate to 4 and 8 Mbit/s repectively ... but without success.
How can I maximise the bitrate without over-stepping the boundaries ?
Will a 2_pass_Extreme_Quality profile set to 4 Mbit/s average bitrate do the trick ?
It's all good !
:):devil::D
Pascal
************************************* NOTE **************************************************
Of course, I don't want 'burst rates' above 8 Mbit/s to be truncated, though ... in certain cases, truncation may well be desirable.
I guess it's one of those cases of 10% peak vs 90% average ... which is better !!!

How do I get AutoMKV to encode the subtitle into a movie?
AutoMKV always never recognize the subtitle tracks in my mkv files. What is wrong? I even extracted the subtitles and press load an external subtitle and it won't work.

Elecard Streameye is Elecard Streameye for AVI.
Funny thing ... I've tried numerous AVI/Xvid/DivX movie/clip(s) and all cum up Unsupported format .
It certainly says that Mpeg4 Decoding is supported !

To begin ... I admit up front that I'm a NOOB with respect to AutoMKV.
I have been recording OTA episodes of a favorite tv show as .tp files.
Editing out commercials w/ Videoredo and saving result as .ts type.
running the file through AutoMKV with final size as 1/4 DVD ... works great.
Now my problem.
I finally bought a pack of dual layer dvds and would like to fit 8 episodes per disk.
1/4 dvd size is a bit too big so i try running the mkv files back through to custom size 1024MB.
result - video w/o audio.
I feel certain it is cockpit error (ME!) but don't have any idea where to start looking to fix it.
The 1/4 dvd mkv files look like this to media info:

I have another silly question; but first a story.
I'm experimenting with Windows 7 h264 capabilities as far as media center extenders go. So far it seems to only like h264 video with 2 channel audio. I'm trying to find a nice codec that will play nice with xbox360/Media Center Extender and also with PS3, which seems like it can play a combination of anything (I got H264 with AC3 inside m2ts to play on PS3 with no problems).
Anyway, Media Center Extender only works with 2 channel AAC inside MP4 container. Well then I had a brilliant plan. What if I created an MP4 with H264 video, and 2 audio streams, one is the original 5.1 ac3 in 2 channel AAC, and the second is the original 5.1 ac3 in 5.1 channel AAC. Then I realized there might be a problem, because AutoMKV names the audio track the same name as the AC3 channel, regardless of how many channels are actually in the aac file. Which leads me to my silly question:
If I use the same source audio for audio track 1 and track 2, autoMKV will overwrite the 1st track with the second track, because its named for the source, not the destination, correct? If so, is it possible to get the audio track naming convention changed to allow for this to happen?

Hi. Long time user here.
Having recently upgraded from 0.97 to 0.98.1 my encoding speed has dropped substantially in the first pass.
I used to get around 90fps on the first pass but now with the same settings, res and source i only get 45fps on the first pass, while i get about 70fps on the second pass (about the same as i was getting before).
Whats causing the slow down just in the first pass?
HQ first pass is unchecked (all options in advanced profile editing at default) and i used the same saved config file that i used before.

I did a couple of tests on 2 movies ... One Last Thing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Last_Thing...) is a leisurely drama while Band of Brothers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_of_Brothers) is an action packed war series.
I encoded both at Q3 , 720x576x25 (anamorphic) and with no filters.
One Last Thing produced an average bitrate of 1738 kbps [24% of original VOB] while ...
Band of Brothers came in at a hefty average of 3315 kbps [56% of original VOB] (fractionally over AutoMKV's SAP default setting of 3146 kbps avg bitrate).
Band of Brothers is the most bitrate demanding movie that I have ever cum across but ...
doubtless there are many more which would demand an even higher bitrate given similar settings (likewise, a lower bitrate than OLT).
However, I think it is safe to assume that CQ can be successfully used for SAP encodes even at the maximum resolutions that DivX certification does allow.
That said, an option to test the final result and report on the sucees or failure, is essential (a 2-pass could then be undertaken if necessary) !!!
It's all good !

I found a bug:
When encoding to Dolby PLII AAC from a 5.1 source, the resultant movie is a 5 channel AAC audio track, not a 2 channel PLII track.
Wouldn't be a problem under normal circumstances, but I'm trying to get media center extender compatibility tested with various surround sound solutions. Unfortunately, I think the only one that will work is a 2 channel PLII track that the receiver with up mix to 5.1 channels.

hi..few questions
1.use CRF for AutoResize Rout - what number for good quality coding should be used CRF=20 or 18
(it seems lower number gives me lower resolution by my tests)
so which is better to use
used to be 18 in previous versions now it seems to be 20 in 0.98.1
2.can someone explain advanced x264 options
AQ strength
AQ mode
Psy RDO
what numbers to use there if any?
is there any web to explain these advanced settings in detail ?

Also, when the audio encoding window first opens (using coding tech aac) It scrolls immediately through about 4 pages worth of options (too fast to see, too much to scroll all the way back to the top), and then starts encoding.
Edit:
I just tried again with Lame and with NeroAAC. NeroAAC does not produce an output audio file, I don't know why, and lame mp3 had its audio slowed to a crawl (people spoke as if possessed).

Media Player Classic could not render the file at all. The DVD info reports that is is 3/2.1 multichannel. I'll try a different source with same settings and let you know how it comes out.
EDIT: Different Source appears to be working (encoding audio now, 2 channel output reported)
In other news: I discovered why I got my error earlier "I don't know what 'original' means". If you have a resize filter picked, but width resolution is set to original (which automkv defaults to when loading a new vob) then you will get this error on movie.avs.

I'm converting home DV footage to x264/MKV with AutoMKV and have a problem with the sound. All the audio is clipping or chirping when somebody speaks. It doesn't make sense because the original audio is fine.
I think it may have something to do with the normalize routine. Is there a way to turn that off, or make it 98% instead of 100%?

OK, I disabled the normalize and it's not fixing it. I am using trim(0,2500) as a last line for AVS script, because the video is 2 hours long. I only tested a few minutes of it (I hope that is not causing it).
The video is DV captured through a Canopus ADVC-110 from a VCR. The audio + video is perfectly synced and it plays back fine from the original .AVI file. When the FFMPEG window came up, I captured this:

Nevermind. I trimmed the video to 1 minute with VirtualDub before I processed it through AutoMKV. The audio is fine.
So using the trim(0,xxx) command at the end of the script somehow messes up the audio.

I did try with lame and AC3. Same thing. It's not the encoder. I ended up deleting all the temp files to check. I'll try again.
How do I remove that from mkvaudio during the process? Thanks.
buzzqw
18th January 2009, 14:23
you can't remove before encoding.. you must edit it, and open mkvmaudio.avs in virtualdub for reencoding
also..
in advanced audio option select "Frequency" and set to 48000 , and then reencode (try with the sample)

I try to save the temp files, but it deletes the original .wav file it extracts. I'm left with the .avs and .bat files, but it was already converted (and sounds wrong). So how can I keep the original .wav file?

That doesn't help with the rest of the syntax, like the AVS trim. How can I stop the AutoMKV process so it keeps the .wav file? Why is that ConvertAudioTo16bit() in there at all? If I could remove it before it proceeds, that might help (if that is the cause of my problem).

this will extract the audio wav, then you can relaunch mkvmaudio.avs AND test if removing convertaudioto16bit help
one try could be done specifing Use DSS for audio and video (i think it's worth a try)

Maybe it's time for an AutoMKV file refresh?
try with DirectShowSource
I used DSS x A/V and it still uses ffmpeg.

Hi,
Can you use the megui settings in automkv. I seem to have a strange problem when using them. When x264 tried to encode I get this error
BREAK ! FILE NOT SUPPORTED ! LAST TRY WITH FFMPEG!
I have also had it happen when using automkv setups but have changed the CRF value. Any help would be very welcome, I have tried re-installing automkv but not the codecs etc, do you think I should try doing that?

Hi all,
I have a question. I try to get an episode of my DVD (an Japanese anime) but the PGC shows 2 parts : one of ~17minutes and another one of ~2miutes.
Is it possible to get a single output file? (or to get a single part in the PGC list : 19minutes)
Thanks
Crono141
19th January 2009, 05:49
Most likely the 17 min pgc is the whole episode. Most anime DVDs have a useless 2 minute PGC thats usually just preview of other anime from that particular distributor. I know ADV does this constantly

unfortunately not for this dvd... I try to put my dvds on my portable device... the DVD1 was fine (6 episodes of 19-20minutes) but the dvd 2 has a weird PGC decomposition and the 2 last minutes do not correspond to the final song (or something like that which is not really interesting ^^) but to the end of the episode :s
An idea?

Thanks for the new build. However, when choosing a constant quality x264 profile, it crashes. I have to go back to 0.98.1 to use those profiles.
