The problem with it wiping the directory before upgrade was put there so there would be no problem installing the newer version...

The new installers just released today should take care of that
They will only over right with newer program files... [ie the files that come in the zip archive]

Thanx zacoz for pointing that out...

But upon Un-installation the un-installer will delete the entire program folder and all things that abide within it...

[So don't Uninstall unless you plan to never use the program again all coustome settings will be erased...]:thanks:
**Edit Both installers for autoMKV 0.95c and 0.96beta install to the same directory so don't install them both you will have a hella mess if you do....

PS if you don't like the way the installers are configured and you know something about NSIS Script you can download the Setup Package in my share folder and rescript and compile them...

Hi,
it seems there is some bug in parsing audio streams in dvd sources. In the past everything was OK, I was able to make mkv with two audio streams (english, czech). Last days I am heading strange problem. If I choose as one of audio streams czech language, the resulting file has no czech stream, only two english. See attached picture and log. I think the problem is in parsing vstrip_ifo.exe output :

Audio 1. English (AC3 6ch, 0xBD 0x80)
Audio 2. Czech(Ceske) (AC3 6ch, 0xBD 0x81)
Audio 3. Magyar (AC3 6ch, 0xBD 0x82)

Greets Buzzqw,

I was wondering if you would be kind enough to offer an option of choosing the location to put the Temp Folder and it's files? Could be usefull to those of us with multiple hard drives. That way we might have the Input source on one drive, Temp folder on another and the Destination files on a third. Might help with the flow of data along the buses during the demux / encode / mux process. Just a thought. Thanks again for a great program. :-)

Hi Buzzqw,

first thank you for this awesome application. I found one small bug and I also have a problem with converting a movie into DivX.

I saved my setting by clicking on the button "Save Setting". I restart AutoMKV and all my saved settings are loaded. Now I choose a new input file and the format combobox switches from DivX to Xvid.

Now I come to my problem with converting a mkv movie to avi container with DivX. At the start of encoding with AVS2AVI I always get an Error ICCompress failed and the conversion stopped here. I already tried to reinstall the divx codec without any success and look for this kind of error in the internet. Hope you can help me.

if I open the movie.avs from the temp folder with Virtual Dub 1.6.16 I can playback the sample perfectly. I get the same ICCompress Error if I run the divxsingle.bat file. I also tried to use other divx porfiles. A friend of mine also get this strange error. With other tools like Virtual Dub or RiverPast Video Clean the DivX Conversion works fine :(

I've never used check DVD, but that's because I always rip my DVD's to the hard drive first and load them into AutoMKV from there. I've never used the AutoMKV with "integrated" DVD Decrypter.

I'd say you're on the right track though. Should be just a matter of ticking the "Process this IFO" box and then selecting an IFO other than the largest. From quick testing here there seems no problem in browsing to a DVD disc and selecting IFO's directly (just make sure you have NONE selected next to the "Check DVD" button) but you would in such a case need to have an on-the-fly decrypter (e.g. AnyDVD) active as DVD Decrypter seems not to kick in.

I'm guessing that the "Check DVD" button has 2 functions:

a fancy macro to automatically select the IFO of the largest VTS
set AutoMKV to engage DVD Decrypter


If you wish to process TV series discs with multiple VTS's or use other than the largest VTS (e.g. extras) and don't have an on-the-fly decrypter installed then it seems you would have to rip to your hard drive first.

As buzzqw is temporarily less available due to RL maybe someone else with experience in such situations can confirm my quick investigations.

This may be fairly straightforward question / answer but I wish to make sure I have this option set correctly:

I've noticed in most (if not all) of the profiles for the Interlaced setting it has False. I do not wish to de-interlace my videos since I am in NTSC land, where most things are still interlaced. Having interlaced standard def dvd's that I am converting to .mkv's to play back on my interlaced TV... Should I not change this setting in the profiles that I will be using to True?

I do not see myself buying a Hi-Def progressive TV anytime in the near future. Plus, I have always heard / read that de-interlacing interlaced content always results in some quality loss. Thanks.

When "Original" is selected, AutoMKV is supposed to automatically check and apply the appropriate DAR. It works for MKV but not for AVI and MP4. Is this particular feature only for MKV?

With AVI and MP4, I can check "Anamorphic Encoding" and then it's okay so it's not a big problem. Would be nice though if didn't have to check the box.

When you first ripped with DVD Decrypter, did you use File or IFO mode. If IFO mode, then maybe try file mode. While not having had that particular error, I have had some subtitle issues recently on an old TV series when I had ripped separate PGC's in IFO mode.

Also you could try ripping with RipIt4Me or DVDFab HD Decrypter (http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm) to see if the same problem persists. What title and region is the disc, maybe someone else has some experience with it.

As a workaround in the interim you could extract the chapters manually from the original MKV using avinaptic and then mux them into the new MKV output from AutoMKV by using MKVmergeGUI.

What do you mean by "file mode"? Open the .VOB? That doesn't work either. And it doesn't start rippign so I'm not sure what you mean by "bad rip".

typhoon, AutoMKV uses DVD Decrypter to rip a disc. It has 3 modes: File, IFO and ISO. Think he was wanting you to see that it is set to File mode for the ripping.

Did you try the Select PGC pulldown menu option to look for the title you wanted after you chose the input file? You may need to make sure you select Process this IFO in the Advanced Settings before you select the Source file. Also you could try DVDShrink in ReAuthor mode to pull out that one title you wish. Then run AutoMKV like normal on it. If the disc has protection on it RipIt4Me is a great frontend for DVD Decrypter. Good luck.

buzzqw, I am getting great results from using your AQ Strength (x10) and AQ Mode option in reducing blocky artifacts in plain, low detailed areas - walls, sky. Along with some other tweaked profile settings. This has really allowed me to lower my bitrate and reduce file sizes.

Is this close to the same thing that is being talked about by Dark Shikari in the Variance AQ Megathread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=132760 ? I was wondering if I should be using similar values. Such as 10 in the Strength box to give me a 1.0 in the command line and 2 for the AQ Mode.

Hi Buzz,

I did some tests to investigate where my ICCompress Error comes from. I did a test with single pass DivX encoding and AutoMKV and modified your batch file to get the Choose Your Compression dialog :) In the DivX options I looked into the expand information dialog where the parameters will be displayed in a command line string. I chose the HD 1080 profile manually and this was the parameter string: -bv1 6000000 -vbv 20000000,16777216,16777216 -b 1 -p -profile=5 -use_presets=1 -preset=10 -windowed_fullsearch=2 -enable_feedback=1 -thread_delay=1 which works with avs2avi without any errors. I also try this with your DivX NPass profiles and there it fails with a messagebox "missing log file". Maybe these infos are a little bit helpful.

I am using beta7 package with beta12 client and encoding x264-mkv's: Is x264 here stable version so that there isn't any tricks that might be not supported in the future? Could that be the case if x264 was beta?

I normally use Constant_Quality.xml with a resize filter and width of my choice. But it requires too many clicks to get AutoMKV to do what I want.

Right now, this is how it works:
1) Select Constant_Quality.xml. Resize filter is automatically set to None and Width is set to Original.
2) Select desired Resize Filter. Width is set to Automatic and CQ is somehow disabled.
3) Click CQ Tune and OK. CQ is activated again and Width is automatically set to Original.
4) Set desired Width and start encoding.

It took me awhile to figure out the correct sequence. Before that it would take me more than 4 steps. I would prefer it if I could just set 3 parameters and start encoding.

Would it be possible to make Constant_Quality.xml NOT change the Resize Filter and Width Resolution automatically?

I feel your pain, however I've overcome most of what you are experiencing by setting up all the options I want and then clicking the "Save Setting" button. In this way AutoMKV opens with my most commonly desired options ready to go - in most cases I don't have to do anything except choose my source, destination, filename, muxing title and chapters (if using non DVD source).

The only outstanding issue is your point 3 which of course still occurs if you need to change the Quantitizer value that has been saved. In my case I encode movies to a different value than TV series so I just keep this in mind and reset the width after choosing the Quantitizer (at least until buzzqw considers any change).

If I save CQ + LanczosResize + Original, AutoMKV starts up with CQ + NONE + Original (ignoring the save Resize Filter setting). So then it takes even longer to get back to CQ + LanczosResize + Automatic.

While writing this post, I discovered the solution! If I save CQ + LanczosResize + 720, AutoMKV starts up correctly. From there, I can switch to Automatic or any other fixed width that I want. :)

BUG: When converting a soft-volume "PAL" audio 256kbps AC3 5.1 track to 224 ABR Lame DPLII with Normalization and 25>23.976, the output wasn't louder, and contained pops & whistles.

-- I then used BeSweetGUI to convert the track with 224kbps ABR, DPLII, 25>23.976, and Hybrid Gain, and it produced no pops & whistles and normalized the volume correctly. Here's the BeSweetv1.5b31 string that worked:

-azid( -s dplii ) -ota( -r 25000 23976 -hybridgain ) -lame( --abr 224 )

...BeSweetGUI also went MUCH faster by normalizing and encoding simultaneously, rather than splitting them into two discrete steps (as AutoMKV is presently doing).

Since AutoMKV ranches out audio to a BeSweet child application in the Exe folder, I assume this is something that's easily dealt with.

I've been using beta12 for awhile and it works for most things I need. I look forward to the next release.

I have one more request. I am about to convert a bunch of TV show seasons to an episode per MKV file. Is it possible to make the "title" (under muxing options) to be the same as the filename? Maybe put a variable in there that will tell AutoMKV to use the file name without the extension?

Otherwise, I just have to remember to type it in twice every time I do a conversion. At 22-24 episodes per season, it would be a time saver.

If you go to the Advanced Profiles Editing tab in beta12 and make sure there are no entries in both the AQ Strength & AQ Mode boxes, then you will see they disappear from the command line below. x264 should then use it's own defaults which I didn't think were 0 in the version that comes with the current 0.96beta.

If that doesn't fix it, have they been specifically saved within a personalised profile.

I stand under correction... but

to my knowledge BeSweet doesn't support scripting and hence AutoMKV can't use the maximum gain volume boost system used by BeSweet nor the mp4 6-channel surround conversion (as implemented by BeSweet).
