Example: A cartoon-movie with lots of progressive 29.97fps title credits and actions scenes, interspersed with 1:1 telecined slow sections (every frame repeated), and a variety of other hybrid rates. When I set deinterlacer to "Auto" without HQ Deint, it ripped to 29.97fps and bloated file-size. When I set it to Film, it ripped to 23.976 but had ugly decimation merge artifacts in the 29.97fps progressive sections. Only when I had both boxes checked did it properly yield a lower fps and smaller file-size while preserving (without decimation) the progressive sections, and not show any repeating telecined frames when the resultant AVI was opened and step-by-stepped in VirtualDub.

The consequences of not having those boxes checked when they need to be is that one's encode will be ugly and/or bloated.

The consequences of having them checked when they don't need to be is that there's an extra amount of time devoted to frame checking. (It doesn't hurt anything.)

I am getting close, but still no cigar.... I am ripping movies now, which have more than one part. Everything works great, except that when I rip VTS_2 (the second part), it always is out of sync. Both Cleopatra and Ben Hur, for instance, have the audio perfect in VTS_1, but totally out of sync on VTS_2.

If you would like to process a certain ifo (by default AutoMKV chooses the VTS with the longest play time on the dvd) then you need to go to advanced options and select process this ifo, then choose the ifo that you would like to process.

Also by the way you never want to destroy the DVD structure cause it will almost certainly cause problems.

I've processed discs with more than 5 PGC's before, but that would have been with 0.95 or early 0.96 beta, not the latest.

Is the Suspend functionality designed to only work when job is run from the queue?

Suspend works fine for me if I run job from the queue, but if I just set up and encode, then it flashes up a cmd window with E:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe in the window title, but nothing actually in the window and the system doesn't shut down (ran a screen recording prg to see what it was displaying).

I've seen before where the episode order on DVD's doesn't match that of original airing order (or production order for that matter). Maybe that is what has occurred, with the expected #13 appearing instead on the next disc.

Just a thought, as it sounds otherwise like you're describing an authoring issue, not a error during the disc pressing process, so all the discs would be the same (unless there is say a standard release and a special edition release).

EDIT: Ahhh, just rereading your post and I interpreted you may be referring to Disc number 14 instead of Disc number 13 (not episode numbers) - :doh:

Well the DVD is numbered 13 (but has the episodes of n°14) so I think that the n°13 simply do not exist and that when I'll go back home I'll find the good n°14.

Unfortunately for me It is one DVD of a 29 collection... well I'll see it later... I hope that they just put the 14 on the 13 and the 13 on the 14 ^^

what do you think about setting the Lame otions (Advanced audio options) to cbr instead of abr as default? Yes, I know I can manually set it to CBR and then save the settings as my personal default. But the point is, when I work on several files for some queued jobs, the advanced options switch back to default, I call it 'programmer's defaults', no matter what settings are choosen as defaults by the user before. This doesn't happen from the first job, but from the second and once I've seen it from the third job (after loading an input file). So I have to go to advanced audio and choose cbr for every encoding job. (AVI-XVID)

O.K., it's not a big thing to do so, but today I found out, that my Denon DVD-Player plays no XVIDs with variable Bitrate MP3. Then I remembered the warning in AutoMKV, not to chgange anything in advanced audio options (until you know what you're doing). That's why I had this thought: wouldn't it be better, to set the most compatible parameter as 'factory defaults'? In this case CBR-Lame instead of ABR-Lame, what do you think?

And with that way, nice for me, I would get rid of that always-go-into-advanced-options-and-select-cbr... ;)

I'm a little late, but I thought I'd contribute my two cents.

I have had similar problems with animation video that has hybrid frame orders. After a lot of tinkering, I have found that the best settings are mode =5 and PP=5 as follows:

movie = tfm(movie,d2v="D:\temp\movie.d2v",mode=5,PP=5).tdecimate()

The key is PP=5 instead of the default 6. from the tfm guide:

5 - motion-adaptive blend deinterlacing
6 - motion-adaptive cubic interpolation deinterlacing

For animation, the default cubic interpolation leads to a very blocky low-res image on frames misidentified as interlaced. Blending, however yields a frame that is highly similar to the original, despite the unnecessary processing.

mode=5 merely helps minimize the amount of missed interlaced frames. If you don't have this problem, don't worry about it.

You can also change the interlace identification threshold with MI (default 85). If set high enough, this will stop misidentification, but it will also start to pass on some true telecined frames. I recommend changing the deinterlace processing first.

Edit: There are also specific settings in Tdecimate for dealing with 30p -> 24p conversion: hybrid=1. changing mode to 1 may also help, as that changes the way in which it chooses frames for decimation (longest string instead of most similar).

I must say you code a great tool. Using it since 0.76c i think. The very one to replace Gordianknot and no .NET framework, thanks!

Now to the issue:

The 0.96 beta 11 (and now 12) has some issue about xvid encoding. I noticed on this thread some guys saying that the xvid encoding take 4 to 5 times it should take.

For me it is processing about one frame every 1.5 secs. (Core2Duo@2.33) But i discovered that if you press the cancel button, but do not press the yes confirmation button, encoding in the background goes to normal speed!

Can you check?

I have no issues encoding the same clips in x264->mkv and mp4.

Can be anything about xvid-encraw?

Well, I've done some animated material, although I've never actually dealt with 30p -> 24p. However if Honeyko can confirm that tdecimate with hybrid=1 and mode=1 works for that, then I would say:

Thanks for your answer.
I already noticed but forgot to mention on my last post that the cpu doesn't move unless i press the Abort button, and then the cpu goes to about 70 to 80%.

Disabling Show Enc. Stats there isn't the huge slowdown. The cpu goes to around 57% no more and making 53fps for 320 wide pixel encode.

yes the mode=1 hybrid=1 work fine for decimating 29.9 to 23.9 fps, but with little cuality loss in anime :)

BUG: AutoMKV continually resets itself to "low priority" (CPU-wise, as seen in Task Manager). -- Even if desired, it is pointless anyway, since all the real horsepower is done by the called encoding utilities, not the GUI shell manager.

BUG: Estimated time remaining "wraps around" 24:00:00 increments, making calculating the ETA of extremely long projects difficult or impossible.

Solution: keep minutes and seconds at normal base-60 time, but make hours decimal. (So it won't roll over to 00:00:00 unless a project will take longer than 99:59:59 h/m/s.)

Teddybear, setting the AutoMKV GUI shell to lowest priority doesn't make anything else go faster because the XviD_encraw and x264 encoder are already set to lowest priority. All setting the GUI shell itself to lowest priority does is result in maddening delays getting the @&$#% window to unminimize, or for the next sequence in the script-chain to initialize. It's a particularly annoying annoyance when one has deliberately set it to above-normal priority, and it keeps auto-reverting to lowest. *Grrr!* Where's my hammer? Mist pound on things now.....

The video was reduced from 4min 40sec to 3min 1sec. When I play the mkv file, there are regular skips. Audio and video are in sync though. Checking the extracted files, I can see that the AC3 audio is already reduced to 3min so the problem seems to be during extraction. So it doesn't look like AutoMKV's fault.

In addition to buzzqw's response (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1126513#post1126513) it seems you are expecting the srt subtitle to appear in the "Subtitle Track 1" dropdown list - this isn't how it works. The external subtitle you have loaded sits in the background and isn't actually shown in the GUI.

Maybe buzzqw could be prevailed upon to tweak this behaviour in a future release. I've found myself forgetting whether I've already added an external sub sometimes when setting up several batched encodes ("now did I add the sub for this one or was that the last one :confused: ").

I made another encode to test, the AutoMKV096b12.exe never passed from 5% of cpu time during the various phases. During the xvid_encraw 2 pass encode AutoMKV096b12.exe was at 0% all the time.
This time however the encode was made at +/- 213fps which is more the speed of previous encodes for this spec's machine. Maybe a reboot was due yesterday.
Nonetheless for me the problem is solved, tell me if you need any further tests, I will be more than welcome to make it.

Excuse me, but this is not the error. I always set this option. If I try to burn subtitles (srt) by selecting "RIP ALL SUBTITLES", too, I get the error "Error parsing parameter file!":

simply load your subs, AND leave the subtitle list to NONE, don't change to Rip all subs, or automkv will search for subs in your file!

Why? No Idea BUT It Is GREAT^^
-Can You simply add an option which allow us to chose (Fr/En... or I do not know) by checking some boxes.
Why? Instead of having no subs preselection or audio, a little script would chose the subs that begin with Fr/En...
Why? When I (or some other people:p) am encoding a DVD where I have many episodes, is would be great if, when making the job list, by selecting the episode in the PGC list, the subs were selected automatically.

I am not sure when it happened, but something changed in the anamorphic settings between the 0.95c release and the 0.96 beta 12.

I ripped and compressed a PGC from an NTSC DVD. The video is typical 4:3 DAR. From the avinaptic output, the anamorphic result between both versions are the same. The nonanamorphic results are different. I think the older 0.95 is correct.

0.96b12 anamorphic

Edit: I had --engage keep_bitstream_ar_info checked for all four jobs. I don't know if that means avinaptic was reading the container or stream AR, but I need that option for my hardware player anyway.

in 0.95c AutoMKV was "unable" to determine correct PAR of movie IF user use ORIGINAL as resize (so no crop, no resize)

In 0.96B XX i added a workaround so if user don't resize automkv will apply orignal AR of movie, this is the same as checking "Anamorphic Encoding".
This is way checking OR NOT checking "anamorphic encoding" will produce the same results (if user don't resize/don't crop)

AND.. the 0.96b12 IS CORRECT

Stupid audio question: JPLII preserves surround-sound information, right?

If so, recommend certain automatic selections when various AC3 files are picked:

(When encoding XviD....)

5.1 AC3 .... auto-pick Lame DPLII 192 Kbps
2.0 AC3 .... auto-pick Lame Stereo 112 Kbps
AC3 with one channel ... auto-pick Lame Mono 112 Kbps

hey, i'm back.. never did get a couple movies to work, but through boredom and desire to store these better i'm here again.

i've got a question about settings, and how to go from 1080p to 720p video with automkv.. if its even possible? also would it be possible for you to add a dvd9 option (rather than just 1 DVD, make it like maybe 2DVD or 1 DLDVD ).. i know theres the custom size, but i can never remember the size in bytes or whatever it is to type in :)

also, not sure if its something i did wrong but in beta 12 i can't get it to encode or do anything for that matter after i press start encoding... i wait for a few minutes and nothing, opened up task manager to see if it opened something and it didn't. so i went and started using beta 6 or 7 and i click start encoding, and it works so i don't know just reporting whats happening, wish i knew why to give you a better idea though
