when encoding to mkv with 264 as the codec, what is it doing on the first x264.exe loading? i was stupid and didn't write down what it said, but it crashed the first time and the rest of the processes have seemed to work swimmingly well, unfortunately its going to take all day for this thing to finish encoding so i wont really know for sure until tomorrow ;)

the first analisys is the analysis of movie, for determining lenght/width/height, then start the deinterlacer routines (2 dos box), then audio.. then video encoding

when finished, post the log

A log annoyance with DVD IFO source :(

The start of the log, containing detail of the selected input, output, encoding settings, etc is saved with a filename relative to the input IFO (e.g. VTS_02_0.IFO.log) while the remainder of the log (the actual processing and scripts) is saved with a filename of VTS_01_1.VOB.log (or maybe it's relative to the largest VTS)

E.g. for the encode I just ran I was encoding from the source VTS_02_0.IFO and my log was split over the following log files:
VTS_02_0.IFO.log
VTS_01_1.VOB.log

This becomes annoying, particularly if I'm batching several TV episodes from a given Disc, as you've got to find the correct sections in each log file.

It would be much cleaner of the full log was simply saved in the filename based upon the source (e.g. in above case VTS_02_0.IFO.log). I thought it used to be but I'm not 100% sure, and if so, not sure which version it changed in.

Hi,

I doubt this is an issue related specifically to this version, but I'm still getting motion stuttering issues. I followed your advice in the .95 thread by selecting "partly interlaced" in the deinterlacer field, "hybrid" in the field order field, and selected "HQ Deint". It didn't seem to make much of a difference over the Auto with HQ Deint selected.

Then I tried with the same settings as listed above and also selected the "Allow Hybrid Order/Pattern" checkbox. Again, it didn't make much of a difference. Here's the log...

I assume you're talking about the Advanced AviSynth area on the Advanced Profiles Editing Tab? I must be missing something, but in AutoMKV 0.96 25000/1000 is not listed as an option in the dropdown list. :confused:

You should be able to type it (25000,1000) into the field however.

EDIT: OK, Just saw Honeyko's post in the 0.95 thread that is being referenced (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1116227#post1116227), and he's not actually talking about 25000,1000.
I also note that Roscoe's DVD is a PAL; if it's a PAL of a US or Japanese show, odds are very high that it's a cheap "tinny" (23.976 fps sped up to 25fps) release. The way to fix those is Advanced Profiles Editing > Change FPS > Assume FPS > 24000,1001. Encode the video without audio. Then extract the audio and re-time it using BeSweetGUI's built-in converter.

I have a problem with South Park NTSC DVD .. I have ripped the DVD to HDD (IFO mode) with DVDFab full disk mode.

When I encode an episode to XVID either the video and or audio is not converted properly. Episode length turns out as 18 minutes when it's actually 22 minutes (according to PowerDVD and SAP). Video cuts off so I do assume this is some kind of audio issue here.. For what it's worth, audio is in sync in the beginning but gets progressively more out of sync.

Also the material is interlaced but somehow the interlacing is done very badly, here's a screenshot (http://personal.inet.fi/koti/ohramies/2008/southpark.jpg)

I had actually this problem with .95 as well. I had delete temp on but will run this again without it to check couple of things like AC3-file length..

Ed: Hrgnh! Appears the board software will now "fix" wordwrapping inside CODE tags for you. Helloo 400-character lines..

Ed2: OK, AC3 is 22 minutes like it should be but the MP3 is weird. It's tagged 18:25 minutes at 320kbps and both winamp and MPC have different ideas of actual playing time..

(audio is generate by opening mkvmaudio.avs in virtualdub)

Because sometime for some combination of input/output that was what worked.. :rolleyes:

I got myself to the vdubmod-stage. I think the problem is that the source is actually split over 2 VOB files. It seems with video 2nd vob file is processed correctly, for audio it's not.

Let's see what deselecting DSS does for me.

No such thing here.. I just created one by "save settings", maybe that will make a difference. So at least missing automkv.ini will cause unexpected behavior.

Without DSS things worked fine and HQ Deint fixed most of the problems with the ugly comb patterns.

Shouldn't have needed to check anything else to make that active.

Correct - audio remains as is.

As suggested by buzzqw in a previous post I think, if you can upload a short video sample then someone else here can have a play with it to try to come up with a solution.

I think this is a bug.

When I load an MKV file, there's no audio track(s) detected. The only options are NONE or All Audio Tracks. If I try to encode using All Audio Tracks then there's no audio, only video.

By the way, embedded subtitles aren't detected either.

Another strange thing. I tried a queue of 2 IFO's and everything went fine. When I tried a queue of around 5 or more, some settings went wrong.

Basically, I wanted to encode using Constant Quality (CRF 24) but it ended up as 2-pass with target size 1/4 DVD-R. Here's part of the log:

But when I select Constant_Quality.xml, the file size is grayed out. My understanding is that when I use 1-pass constant quality then the file size setting is ignored and the output file size is according to the CRF value. So selecting Constant_Quality.xml is the same as unlimited file size but I did not actually select unlimited file size.

Anyway, it seems to work as I understand it. For a 30-minute episode (around 1GB .vob), I get around 200MB MKV file with Automatic Resize + CRF 24. If I have a large queue with the same settings then I get 1GB MKV file instead.

I still need to do more testing to figure out exactly what conditions cause this problem. So far, if I run AutoMKV and create the large queue then the error happens. If I start with a single job and then create a queue (tested up to 8 jobs) after the 1st job is finished then the queue works.

The setting of Automatic width may be where the issue is creeping in. Looking at your log it seems it causing some funny stuff when it gets to autoresize procedure.

If you are using a CQ profile and hence an unlimited file size then you should just set the width that you want. Your resulting file size will be a function of the chosen width.

It's unclear from the log whether it's purely something about the particular movie that has caused such a weird suggested width, or that (what I'm betting on) you're trying to make Autoresize work in a situation it's not intended to do so, and is consequently producing unexpected results.

Maybe I just don't understand how it's all meant to work but I don't see why Autoresize and CQ wouldn't work together.

I use Autoresize so that I don't have to make my own mod16 calculations. I can't be bothered to figure out the ideal width for PAL & NTSC with various aspect ratios. Autoresize has done a good job so far. And CQ is simply used, well, to provide a specific level of quality.

So, I don't want to worry about the dimensions and I don't care too much about the file size as long as I get the level of quality that I specify. I don't think that's asking for anything unreasonable.

And it works. It's just that sometimes (under certain conditions) it doesn't. I'll try to nail down what exactly those conditions are once I finish my current encoding work.

By the way, it does seem like there's something strange in the log but the Autoresize still works correctly. The dimensions I get are 704 x 400 (16 x 9). It's just that the bit rate is really high and I get a 1GB file. When it's working properly, the dimensions are also 704 x 400 but the bitrate is much lower (using CRF 24) and I get a 200MB file.

I'll try to nail down what exactly those conditions are once I finish my current encoding work.I think I found the problem.

I have Constant_Quality.xml selected by default. Normally, when Constant_Quality.xml is selected then the Disk Settings (file size) field is greyed out because it's not relevant for CRF encoding. However, when I start up AutoMKV the Disk Settings field is not greyed out even though Constant_Quality.xml is the default setting. If I click on CQ Tune and then click OK on the open window, the Disk Settings field is greyed out. In other words, it seems I need to re-apply the CQ setting before it is actually taken into use. If I don't do this then it seems AutoMKV will ignore the CQ setting and use the Disk Settings value instead using 2-pass encoding.

Long story short, setting Constant_Quality.xml as default is not working properly.

I tried using the ChangeFPS / 25,1 settings - again it did not seem to make any difference.

1. Should I have used that setting AS WELL AS selecting the "partly interlaced / hybrid" settings in the deinterlacer, or instead of?

2. I'm happy to upload a sample - but do you need sample of source vob, ifo files, or resulting mkv? In either case, how much do you need, & what tools can I use to cut a sample?

This vob is very weird! Some frames are interlaced some are not. After Deinterlacing some frames are blended. Madness...

I've been having audio sync problems with this m2ts - it has both AC3 and TrueHD audio - if I select the simple AC3, I get audio delay (I've tried all 3 options), and if I select the TrueHD, eac3to crashes... :( There's a 60MB sample of it, so you can do some testing:

I was thinking, the problem may be that after dgAVCDec demuxes it, the audio ends up being longer than the original m2ts, and so I also posted on the dgAVCDec thread, so that neuron2 can take a look at it too... Tried it with xport and got the same bad results:

xport -h part60.m2ts 1 1 2 (which is the AC3) - This time I actually got a shorter mpa file (by 1 second) than the original m2ts is...... very weird. Muxed it with TSMuxer and I still get a huge delay

I still don't get an mkv when I try to convert subtitled movies. Other movies convert just fine.

Tried again, with another subtitled movie: VOB_1 from Fanny and Alexander. I get a temp folder, and if I run the muxing batch file in it, it starts and then just quits immediately.

My guess is that it is this way through the whole episode. Is it because they used a crappy method to "convert" to PAL?

If it can't be fixed, maybe the only solution to get a clean copy of these episodes is to buy the US version? At least then because it is originally recorded in NTSC there's no dodgy PAL conversion method going on.

What are your thoughts?

buzzqw, with the .90 version I used to just click "all subtitles" and it worked fine (I usually just kept the English subs when ripped the original DVD.)

With .96 I tried "all" and just "wide" subtitles, "anamorphic" on or off, and I keep getting the same result - no mkv.

I just started a conversion of Y Tu Mama, Tambien, will see if it works and will post here.

I have (again) an audio problem with video conversion. With DV AVI, h264tsto is not extracting the PCM audio correctly and the result has no audio. With version 0.95c, the audio track is simply shown as [filename].avi and it works. Why do we now need h264tsto? What is it for?
