Just curious, what command line do you use on Nero AAC? I've been trying to do some testing on my own and I keep getting the message "Could not open AAC encoder" even though I'm doing everything right (tried it with a .wav, which I demuxed from the original m2ts audio with eac3to).

part that's at issue. Someone else had the same error and fixed it but they didn't specify what they did to fix it. MKV files play back fine, and I installed AVISynth correctly (as far as I know) using the installation file from the first post of the last thread.

I seem to be having an issue with AMKV; I'm new to this but in the past have used both GK and AutoGK. I wanted to try MKV because it sounds like the "new" format that has a lot of potential.

Anyways, I tried encoding two movies, T2 and The Matrix, ripped the VOBs in IFO mode with DVD Decrypter. I encoded both with AMKV, but it only runs for about 45 minutes to do both passes.

I specified a 700 mb output file, but for whatever reason, AMKV makes a 700mb and 300mb file. The files look ok but skip around a lot; it will encode 5 minutes and then I get a "glitch" (looks like a missed keyframe or whatever where macroblocks go funny colours) and the movie jumps ahead a few minutes.

So instead of a ~2 hour movie, I have a 30 minute movie and a 14 minute movie that are in 2 separate files (I did NOT specify file separation merely 1 CD output size) and jump around like crazy.

Used nero for audio, MKV/x264 for video.

Any ideas?

leakdeint is used as "normal" deinterlacer, tdeint as HQ deint
tdeint is also used when automkv is unable to determine frame order (bff or tff)
and yes.. tdeint is supposed to deal a better deinterlacing

Then this could be a bug in beta9? With 'Deinterlacer: Safe' and 'Field Order: TTF' AutoMKV uses the hq deinterlacer even if this option is not selected. The type of video was recognized correct: interlaced/ttf

I'm having the same problem as bibile using v0.96b9.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the naming of the audio file.

When i encode with Nerodigital the output file name is audio.mp4 but when you look at the log it says cannot find movie t81 3_2ch 448kbps delay 0ms.mp4.

I manually closed automkv when it start encoding with FFmpeg

First - about the deinterlace analysis - I'm sorry I don't know that much about interlacing, but - are you saying that if a movie is 23.976 (basically all movies), then I should always turn off the deinterlace analysis? (cause movies are never interlaced). Since I leave it on AUTO, shouldn't AutoMKV automatically see that it's 23.976 and film and just not do the analysis? It's taking as long as the actual encoding, so it would be awesome if I could turn it off, but I wanna make sure it's safe.

Also - is there a way you can add support for .264 and .vc1 files, so that I can directly select them as the input video file? Sometimes I like to use files that I've demuxed from somewhere, and maybe don't have the m2ts anymore, etc... So, I was just wondering if that would be possible.

Also - I have another suggestion for you (sorry if I'm being annoying) - I think it'd be a good idea to have an "Abort" button, or something like that, so that if the user wants to stop encoding, all processes can shut down - because now, if I wanna stop encoding I have to close AutoMKV, and then close all the other windows, and sometimes more will pop up later, it's just a little annoying... Just a thought

the "film" type must be IVTC and reported to progressive framerate (23.976), and the progressive one are already ok for encoding

Technically, I believe so. Practically, depends if you've got a poor or quality sound system that you're playing it back on.

I personally prefer to use Nero, although have noted problems at times with Nero failing through AutoMKV. In those cases I've been manually encoding audio using Nero through BeHappy (http://www.codeplex.com/BeHappy) and manually muxing using mkvmerge GUI (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/).

Haven't been able to work out why Nero fails sometimes and not others. Sometimes it's reproducible (always fails with a given DVD), while with other DVDs it's not reproducible (works sometimes, fails at others on the same disc). Especially strange when the same audio source file works through BeHappy.

well it's a "features" i added ...
basically i though that if user choice "safe" most probably the source file isn't so perfectly "interlaced" ot "film" so i will rely on more potent deinterlace/ivtc routines

anyway when you know your source is INTERLACED, simply select INTERLACED and the field order, much quiker :)

I remember spotter posting that thread but hadn't kept up on it. Thanks for posting link again buzzqw. I'll test it here and see if it also solves my failures - as they were failing right at the end when the conversion had apparently finished.

I recently replaced xvid-ogm with x264-mkv in my mvids encoding processes and after some testing automkv proved to be the only one to replace the good old Gordian Knot...

Some questions and feature requests: (these just apply to beta1, didn't install beta9 until today )
-Those balloon tips :confused: disappear too quickly so there could be a checkbox to choose whether these tips are shown or not.
*Deblocking:
-Since messing with AQ doesn't seem to yield to good results with small filesizes deblocking settings would be nice... and for that matter the whole settings dialog of x264 (...and xvid...)
-Is it enabled by default? At least doesn't seem so

Otherwise quite fine piece of software with quite fast enqueuing but still not too simplified

the x264 deblocking is achivied by tweaking the profile, or by playing with dgdecode deblock.. or by using belocking filters...

Finally found some time to start playing again with AutoMKV. Some problems I've noticed with beta9:

- If I save Constant_Quality.xml as my default profile, there's not CQ Tune button when I start AutoMKV. This is the same problem as some early beta versions.

- h264tsto does not correctly extract PCM audio from AVI files. It creates an .aac file which is wrong. AutoMKV 095c does not use h264tsto and it works fine.

well it's a "features" i added ...
basically i though that if user choice "safe" most probably the source file isn't so perfectly "interlaced" ot "film" so i will rely on more potent deinterlace/ivtc routines
o.k., I see, sounds logical to me. Then I would say, let this function as it is. As I wrote, it is working good for me and the extra time for the hq-deint will shurly be good invested.
anyway when you know your source is INTERLACED, simply select INTERLACED and the field order, much quiker
Yes, you're right, but some clips are hard to declare as interlaced or progressive by eyes. AutoMKV does this much better and these 4 minutes for analyzing are o.k. for me :)

Something different: Disable the 'Show Enc. Stats' speeds up xvidencraw's performance by 10-20% and uses more processor recources on my C2D. This is cool, but I ask myself if this is a normal behavior or if there's something strange in my system? :p

it's true! most depends on cpu.. on my old p4 2.8 it slow down by 5%, on a quad should be even less..
but yes, definitively it slow down.
You can de-check it and save your settings :)

On certain movies, I've had the final mux be just 5-6 seconds shorter than the original movie... It's really not a big deal, but I was wondering if you knew what may be causing this. It's only on certain movies, and I can't seem to find a pattern. The audio is in sync, it's just last 5-6 seconds of the mux are cut off. Any ideas why?

I have an MKV with 6-channel AAC. Again, 096/h264tsto can't extract the audio correctly but it works fine with 095c. Is there any chance of having a 096 version that does audio conversion the same way as 095c?

how to correct, not using automkv, but using avidemux you can open your file and set audio delay, then resave

changed: audio is demuxed from avi/mkv only if more than 1 audio is found

Some more questions about resize and crop to spread confusion..

From the tips it's implied if I select "manual crop only", automkv will go and do resize!!

And if I select "manual crop + resize", the preview does not update the video size to match cropped pixels (at least didn't use to) so you'd get bad resize..

So if I want to do NO shrink/grow of video but want to crop black bars from 1.85 or 2.39 movie, what should I select exactly?

Manual crop only and select "width resolution" as "original"?

select just autocrop only, or from "manual crop and resize" select "Use manual crop/resize" and specify crop values AND resize , then on main panel select NONE as resizer

I tried making AAC audio 1st time as I wanted to try the h264 + ac3 in mkv => h264 + stereo AAC in MP4 trick for fast conversion of video for X360.

I found out dirty little secret, the latest nero uses intel compiler so the SSE enabled exe won't run on AMD processors no matter what. Tsk tsk. I wonder if I can find hacked/patched/beta AACencoder that works with AMD too..

Ed: Apparently official line is that next update will patch it and the "plain" version is faster than the SSE version of previous release anyways.

Yup, there are a plenty, but they tend to recompress the video that takes just about forever. Too bad X360 does not have decent support for subtitles yet so making X360 compatible video with subtitles requires to crunch the numbers anyways.

I'll give a shot to avidemux.
