Btw about avidemux. It doesn't let you specify "stereo" for AAC so unless you can only make 2-channel AAC encodes with this, it's not going to work with X360.

Plus no dual-core support in AAC encoder so it's only running half-speed!

On the plus side a lot of unnecessary copying back and forward is omitted unlike with YAMB route

buzzqw, thanks for an incredibly useful tool. it is by far the most intuitive i've used. keep up the great work.

my primary issue with it right now related to the deinterlace options. after numerous test encodes, i continue to have issues with the best settings for the deinterlacer. for one, hybrid material seems to need adjustments to mode and MI to get the right balance of identifying combed frames for different sources. but more annoying is that for proper field order sources, selecting 'film' and the field order and disabling hybrid doesn't stop the deinterlacer from catching frames outside of the field order on occasion. i can stop them from being processed by setting PP=0, but i can only do this with a manual edit of the movie.avs file. this means that your time-saving batch processing can't be used, because i have to prepare each source, make sure to grab the chapter file before it is overwritten, conduct manual edits to movie.avs and fullbatch.bat, and then run them separately.

is there any way to allow for these tfm parameters (mode, MI, PP, etc) to be edited within the GUI?

Some more comments about avidemux. It fails to produce a valid file > 4096MB. You can specify it should be split but it doesn't happen. Also the mp4 will be unplayable in this case..

Also this does nothing about the L5.1 vs L4.1 issue.. I'm trying a dumbed-down program called gotsent..

well actually you cannot set these parameters in automkv BUT ... you can write your own deinterlacer string!

in deinterlacer box don't select nothing BUT write your deinterlacer like
movie=tfm(movie,d2v="c:\xxxx\movie.d2v",zzz=yyy, kkk=qqq).tdecimate()

yes, what you write will be written in movie.avs (and resmovie.avs) script!

i actually tried that before (and i just tried it again in the new beta version as well), and the movie.avs ends up with two lines calling tfm. the first is the standard; the second is the one i added. when i try to run it, it doesn't accept the movie.avs file and cancels. any other options?

Yeah, and the gotsent is supposed to automate the process of patching.

Now about AutoMKV for a bit. beta10 broke WMV encoding! Actually last one I used was beta6 so do not know where that happened.

It's again the good old "I don't know what "audio" means"-problem.
I tried q=75 for 5.1 encoding..

Thanks, I'll try it on next HD WMV encode..

The WMV profile is using IMO too fancy settings at q=75 - It does 48kHz 24bit. Wouldn't 44kHz 16bit be more appropriate?

Also the framerate is defined as 25 which is wrong.. I don't know if that causes an issue, but..

Anyways here's the profile I adjusted for q75/44/16 and 23.976 fps

Really? At least the profile editor seems to have 44/5.1/16 combination for every quality step?

that's odd... i had deleted it and closed the program, so when i went to regenerate the error, i started everything from scratch and it did not add the duplicate line.

i can consistently get the error by doing the following steps: first, i run the encode with the deinterlacer set to 'film'. next, without restarting the program (but reselecting the target IFO), i add my custom tfm line to the deinterlacer field and run the encode again. as you can see in the log below, it adds both the standard tfm line and my custom line.

i was able to avoid this bug by restarting the program and adding my custom tfm line the first time.

although this does seem to work, it is still a bit of a hassle, because each new encode will require a unique tfm line that contains the correct path to its .d2v file. this is ok if you only have one directory that you put the temp folder, but not if you want to have different ones. perhaps in a future version, you could add a way to edit the tfm parameters without having to resort to writing the whole line out. a button that gives you a pop-up window with fields for the different parameters would be great.

EDIT: actually, there is another problem that this causes. now, it does not change the FPS to 23.97 as the 'film' setting would previously do. what's causing this to happen?

I've been having difficulties getting the aspect ration correct on movies like Cleopatra or Ben Hur: I've tried various options, but keep getting slightly skinnier image, regardless if I check anamorphic, or force ITU resize, or select AutoCrop Only, or, as in this last try, 720p. Now enter your desired values for the crop and resize. You may have to fiddle with the resize numbers a little, as changing one dimension will sometimes affect the other.
Check the 'AR Error%' readout. When it reads 0.000, you will have the correct AR.

Your log shows you have an error of .537%. Just a few small adjustments to either resize or crop numbers would fix that.

in this case, the source had edited telecined video, so the field order keeps changing. your 'Test Deint' process determined that it was hybrid content (and i verified it manually). but it should definitely be 23.97 FPS. is there a better setting than 'Film' for this? i tried them all, and this gave me the best results (with tfm modifications, of course).

i also ended up solving my previous problem: when i enter my own deinterlacer line, the FPS stays the same as the source, which is a problem if you want to inverse telecine for 29.97 to 23.97. to fix this, i went to the 'Advanced Profiles Editing' tab and in the 'Advanced Avisynth' box, i selected ChangeFPS and 24000,1001. The output seems to be correctly ivtc'ed.

well, i'm coming from the less experienced end... if i had to write an avs from scratch, i'd be lost. i just figure out stuff when i can't get what i have to work. i needed more tfm options, so i messed around with it. and, of course, since i need it, i would love to see it in the GUI. but that's just me.

yeah, everyone has their own threshold. i prefer at least 0.0, but i probably couldn't tell if it were a little more.

speaking of AR adjustment, that reminds me of the next issue i've been having with automkv. in the Preview window, i never see the image. i've just been using Gordian Knot to get my crop measurements. also, when i try the 'Preview Resize' button, i just get flashes of color instead of the preview video. is there some driver i am missing or something? sorry if this question has already been answered before.

yes, i like it (and even put the AR error in main panel) BUT problem is that inpur file could be a ifo, d2v, avi, a series of vob.. well inconsistence input file for determining exact bitrate

Also funny thing is that I cut 30s sample of this file and encoded it with the same settings as before... File encoded with beta10 is 512x384 with 503kbps and doesn't inlude this BREAK ! FILE NOT SUPPORTED ! LAST TRY WITH FFMPEG! etc. but the one encoded with beta 11 does and is 610x456 with 423kbps as is the one encoded with beta9

So the summary is...

in beta11 (and previusly) i added support to new aq mode
so you need to use the whole package from beta 7 , or use a update x264 build

about size: Selected Size: Don't care about size / 1

so bitrate spike over! (902800000) since ffmpeg don't use a CQ encoding mode

and about resize, i will check it, thanks!

EDIT: there is no need to check both Manual crop&resize AND Manual Crop, the first is enough :)

Well, I've re-tried to encode my anime DVD (5 episodes)

I've created a job list & launched it...
-n°1&2 ok (=>the first log)
-n°3 to 5 KO (=>The second log...)

===>File size -1... no idea Why

I'll try with the B11 but from what I've read nothing has changed to make the encoding stage work

Don't know if I'm misinterpreting or taking out of context your post, but IF you in the future are considering changing the GUI main panel I'd propose bringing the chapter button from the Manual Crop and Resize section on Advanced Settings Tab to Basic Settings Tab below SubTitle Track 1 or 2. I keep forgetting about it hidden where it is.

Hopefully I don't start a torrent of GUI related suggestions if I have misunderstood your comment. :eek:

(note: i am not a subripper, so my knowledge is very limited on this area!)

the first timestamp is "timestamp: 00:00:00:000, filepos: 000000000"

and zero/0 time isn't accepted, just remove this line and the muxing is fine

That would be great... and that I was also looking for but as I'm not a good enough in programming, I do not think that I would get to do it right


Edit: during the encoding I've modified the IDX file and at the end MP4box as expected created the mp4 file.
Just if you do net have time to make a script (and as I see that I'm the only one who has this problem... Have you an idea about how to include a parsing "script" after the idx creation?

Using the 2 pass ps3/xbox360 profile in an mp4 container, I get a completely unplayable output file. MPlayer shows the following:

ive done 40+ test with automkv with cq 3, replaced the xvidcore in encoder dir with koepi xvid-vaq build, 6of9hvs matrix, simple resize, manual resize and width/height 720w400h, deinterlace at auto with hq deint and removegrain mode 2. should i redo all 40+ tests and post the logs here? the only problem is with kinda dark and fast motion scenes. dark scenes like in beowulf which is a cg with scenes on the boat and underwater (so its more the blue giving a prob) and in resident evil extinction where alice let the flames go up and burn those crows or ravens (the black has blocks if u examine each frame, but its not as much visible at playback). what i actually wanted to know is how to make excellent backups without getting filesizes 3 to 4 gb that doesnt look good at all. avi.net handles the dark and fast scenes well with a cq at 2.5, hq encoding, 720w400h. any help at achieving same or even better quality without the final file being 2gb more in size than what avi.net is creating.

one log should be enough.
avi.net don't handle anything, neither automkv, it's only the codec (or filters applyed on avs) ... so the first thing is to compare codec settings and avs

also, automkv has 3 way for optimizing the file: using the qmf filter, using the qmtrim or hgavs
