RipIt4Me - Update 22 March to v1.7.1.0

If I understrand you correctly:

1) Directly, DVD Decrypter processed this DVD without a problem

2) From within the "RipIt4Me" package, the automatic first step of ripping with DVD Decrypter fails

3) Both before and after trying to rip this DVD,the "RipIt4Me" package processed other DVDs properly

If all of the above is correct, there must be a bug in the "RipIt4Me" package related to the structure of this specific DVD...

If there's something I've misstated in 1) through 3), please clarify.

To me it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue; The programs work fine on their own, so I would agree that it is something to do with the installer package and/or some kind of conflict with my system. If that is the case, the big question is to why it works most of the time, but doesn't others.

As I stated earlier, I had a similar issue, but it was isolated to a single drive, but this time it is all of the drives ..internal and external.

I'll try to get this posted at the above thread.

No probaly not. Just wanted to see if it would work on it's own.

I just tried both discs..the one from last night that worked (Ultraviolet R1) and the one from this morning that didn't work (Ghost Breakers) and RI4M strated fine with Ultraviolet but again crashed on Ghost Breakers ...the none Sony disc didn't work, but the other did?

kis2005, I think you found a bug. What the author needs at this point is the IFOs from the original DVD (the one that crashes): open the DVD in explorer and copy the IFOs off of it, then zip it up and post it here or on the official bug thread...

Exactly. Please all, remember our policy on IFOs with respect to commercial DVDs.

I'd ask memebers to read the announcement at the top of this and the newbies forum.

I know RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) asks for certain things to be zipped up. RipIt4Me logs are no problem - they do not contain CSS info. However, IFOs and DVD Decrypter logs can not be posted.

Did you use that installer package that is floating around? Also I seen in your debug log at DVF that the DVD is listed as region free. Are you running any programs in the background when you are using RI4M?

this is just a random ripit4me question but,

after ripit4me has done its thing, it leaves about 4 'readme' (notepad) files/logs along with 2 or 3 "PSW" files.

i delete the readme files but what about the psw-extension files?
do i need to leave them in there (before i import into shrink with the rest of em) or can i erase them too?

Answer "yes" to move logs (or set it to "always" in the preferences) and they are kept in a special folder for future reference. It's a good idea to keep them in case they are needed later.

Hi!

After RipIt4Me (including use of FixVTS, if necessary) has "done its thing", you can delete all files OTHER THAN .IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs from the folder containing the ripped DVD...

No it isn't the package that is floating around. I'm not sure why is states the DVD as Region Free, but it is a 2002 DVD of a 1940's movie, so who knows. And no, I don't run anything in the background.

kis2005, can you check whether the DVD is actually region free? Perhaps the easiest way is to copy video_ts.ifo off the disc, and open it with IFOEdit, then select VMGM_MAT and look at address 23 VMG Category...

Anyway, I chose to ignore that file, completed the rip, clean it up with fixvts and I'm currently in the process of splitting it to two dvd's with ifoedit...I'll let you know how it comes out.

You must have done something wrong...
Probaply, you pressed the "rip" button in Decrypter before the import of the psl file...

I agree that there shouldn't be an error but it occurred nevertheless, and yes I did wait until the psl was imported, and everything went well except for that one vob. The source dvd is new, no damage at all.... Thankfully that VTS was not needed at all for playback so it wasn't a biggie that I skipped it.

- Fixed a bug introduced in 1.4.12.0 that could cause video_ts.ifo to grow to a huge size, make RipIt4Me issue the message "Cannot write video_ts.ifo" and possibly crash.
- Fixed a UI problem in the selection of the movie/audio/subpicture streams in movie-only and movie+menus modes.
Sorry for the quick release, but we're trying to solve the crash problems as fast as we can...

Version 1.4.12.0 (30 August 2006)
- Added the full language name in the subpicture selection for movie-only (in addition to the two letter code).
- Added "Cancel Rip" button to audio/subpicture stream selection dialog.
- There is a new preference check box to run FixVTS only on those titlesets that need it. If "Always run FixVTS on full DVD" is checked, or if the DVD appears to be protected, the entire DVD is run through FixVTS.
Otherwise, FixVTS is run only on
. the menus
. the titlesets that have been modified (cells removed etc)
. the titlesets that show unreferenced material
This can help save a bit of time, for those who are in a hurry. Otherwise, keep the option to process the full DVD checked.
- The original IFO files are no longer read-only.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented specifying the target directory in ISO mode.
- Fixed a bug in the function that create PSL. This could cause RipIt4Me to crash.
- Added a check to verify that the FixVTS path indeed points to FixVTS.exe
- Fixed a problem in the way the VMG_VTS_ATRT table was adjusted when VTSs were removed. This could cause problems when opening in IFOEdit.
- Fixed the bug that caused the wrong DVD drive to be open in case of scratches or at the end of the rip (if the option is selected).
Keep these debug logs coming! We identified a couple more bugs thanks to them. Don't forget to zip up and post the IFOs as well (original ones, and final ones) and buttoninfo.txt so we can reproduce the problem. Thanks!

Strictly speaking, you do not need anything else for IFO mode, so long as you know what cells are the bad ones. The PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) plugin can tell you that easily (as can DVD Decrypter in Log debug mode). It's then a matter of ripping in IFO mode but not ripping the bad cells (you can also choose what streams to ignore, of course).

Then create a Video Manager, either with PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) or with the old free version of DVDFab 0.17.0 (avaliable here (www.mrbass.org/dvdfab)).

Hi all

I tried the RipIt4Me with RV. It worked okay. I could not get a good result with PGCEdit. It kept giving me errors even with the psl file it created. RipIt4Me worked fine but then when I choose back up in DVD Shrink, it gave me an error that DVD Shrink encountered an error, incorrect parameter, out of memory. Can someone tell me what to do to back it up ??

I found this information in the Ripit4Me guide that hopefully answers part of your question:

From my own experience, I've found that if, say, I was previously using DVD Decrypter as a stream processor... then fired up Ripit4Me to do a different disk (Ripit4Me would use Decrypter the way it usually does)... the next time I activate Decrypter on its own, it'll be set up for stream processing -- just like I left it when I last used it.

As far as UPOs, I'm not really sure; the copied disk seems always to behave identically to the original disk -- FBI warnings can't be skipped on my set top players, nor can studio logos, ect. But I haven't tried switching audio tracks during playback (which some studio disks won't let you do), so in this case I'm not entirely sure. I know that default Decrypter settings for both IFO and VOB UPOs is to leave them unchecked... but I'm not sure if Ripit4Me changes these. I doesn't appear that way, though.

I hope this helps at least somewhat.

I'm most curious to know if the program is setting DVD Decrypter to eliminate VOB PUOs. The reason for my question is that one, and only one of my standalone players - a VERY finicky SONY NS725P doesn't properly playback some apparently perfect rips.

It will behave properly up to and including menu selection - but when it starts the actual movie, it flies through each of the chapters, at approximately 2 seconds of display for each.

Again, these burned DVDs play PERFECTLY on 5 other standalones and three PC systems...

I'd ask if your Sony has this difficulty with disks that were ripped using other programs, but my own Sony set top (NS575P) is more finicky than your average housecat, even with the Studio originals. Amazingly, the cheapest set I've got (an Apex, the model of which I'm too lazy to go and look at at the moment) is also the set that I've had the least amount of problems with.

It will behave properly up to and including menu selection - but when it starts the actual movie, it flies through each of the chapters, at approximately 2 seconds of display for each.I have two Sony players and they both have trouble sometimes.

Wondering did you just burn the result of RI4M output to DVD, or did you reduce from DVD-9 to DVD-5 perhaps? Sounds like the Cell Commands got jazzed-up somehow--are they 2s, 8s, 10s?

It's only on rare occasion - most recently the R1 version of "The Proposition" - that the SONY has exhibited this behavior. Therefore, it's apparent to me that some part of the "RipIt4Me" package is altering the .IFOs or .VOBs in a manner unacceptable to the SONY standalone's stringent requirements.

Again a backup of the same DVD, done using only DVD9Copy, plays perfectly on the same SONY standalone (as does the original, commercial DVD)...

I've found that RipIt4Me does nothing to your PUOp settings. I have ripped disks which still have PUOs (IFO and VOB).

A little experimentation will help.

RipIt4Me is VERY compliant ripper - far ahead of anything else out there.
