I link statically where possible (can't build static GTK libs under windows). libxml2 wasn't linked statically? It isn't a dependancy here. If you check I guess you will see that it is a dependancy of a dependancy maybe?
Linking dynamically does make sense though, since you should get a smaller binary and you can update xvid, x264, etc. seperatly (assuming no major changes).

You are right:
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5327/libxml2op7.png
But that file is still needed, so it should be in the ZIP.
It does not ship with GTK+, so I got it from that (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/win32/avidemux2.3_r2214_win32.zip) AviDemux build.

Any Ideas why I need it then? :confused:
I use WinXP SP-2 and latest GTK+ is installed properly (v2.8.18).
Your AviDemux build was extracted to a clean dir and it seems to load the required libs properly from GTK+ dir.
Only that libxml2.dll is missing...
celtic_druid
26th July 2006, 17:26
Well your libcairo requires it, mine doesn't. That's why I won't package the file. Different people would be requiring different dll's. Pretty much a case of all or nothing. I could probably 7zip libxml2 seperatly along with pthreadGC2, etc. That way people could grab them if they need them.
Did I include it with older builds?
LoRd_MuldeR

Don't think so.
BTW: My libcairo-2.dll is from official GTK+ release.
Wouldn't it be possible to compile all the required libs into the avidemux2.exe ???

You can't build static GTK libs under windows. That would make it one mother of an EXE to. Better to leave GTK seperate and use the GTK+ installer. Really if it requires libxml2, it should include it though.

Yes. But what makes me wonder is, that GTK+ doesn't need that Lib always. Only with your new AviDemux build. Other GTK+ apps or your older builds never asked for it...

Previous builds were 2.2 branch. Didn't require a thread safe spidermonkey either. I am sure that there are lots of differences between the branches.

I don't know if they modified anything that effects the response of the GUI, but the "freezing bug" I had with older versions seems to be fixed. I just did a 15 hours encoding and the status window did not freeze this time. Well, Windows added a "(no response)" warning to the window's caption-bar one time. I though it would freeze again and I had to abort, but after about 15 secs the warning disappeared and the window startet to respond again...

This package is missing libxml2.dll
Please try downloading
gtk+-2.8.18-setup-1.zip
which is available from the same place.
They fixed installer and now it includes the libxml2.dll :)

Results so far:

2. WMV HD Trailers have no sound, but video seems to be alright
3. Other WMV files have audio and video, but completely out of sync

Avidemux changelog says:
partially working QT4 build
What does that mean? Will it work for Win32 too and are there any improvements compared to the current GTK+ builds?
Version 2.3 is almost ready for final stable release. I think they are just waiting on last few language translations before it hits the download sites.
Version 2.4 is the branch with the QT work being done. The program's GUI is going through a complete overhaul. This is to allow it to be fully functional from the command line without the need to have an X Session going (graphic session running), making it handy for work on headless machines where you are only accessing through a terminal. In the process of rewriting all the GUI code, they decided to move to QT4. Though I am not entirely sure why, I personally see no real problems with this, beyond the fact I need to switch from learning GTK to QT4.
There are no real "improvements" yet, meaning there are no big functionality features added. Any bugfixes that are found are also pushed into the stable 2.3 version, but currently 2.4 is mostly just getting a makeover, with most or all of the code being moved to QT4.
Since QT4 has a much more open liscense, it will work in Win32 systems just fine (as compared to QT3). Does that answer your questions?

So it appears that Mean has begun to include the B Pyramid into the H.264/X264 system. I am not sure how far it is from completion, however I figure I should ask for some screen captures of what the GUI's for B Pyramids look like, so that I can use them for reference.
I do not think this feature will necessarily be available for 2.3 (it might, I could be wrong). However I will probably have to help remake the X264 interface into QT4 for version 2.4....
LoRd_MuldeR
21st November 2006, 19:54
I always thought the "B-Frames -> Use as Reference" setting (already in Avidemux for a long time) enables B-Pyramid *confused*
The x264 codec is capable of using the B-frame pyramid feature to “Use [B-frames] as references”

It is just a fix when encoding to mp4 file format with B-pyramid enabled.
In that case, more delay is added/needed and you could end up with computed dts > computed pts.
The fix just recomputes the pts when b-pyramid is set to take into account the extra delay.
The effects of the bug was frames were dropped.

I've just installed Avidemux 2.3.0 final and replaced libx264.dll with up-to-date version.
Then I noticed that some x264 settings are not set properly!
Tested with rev598, rev600 and rev602.
From output file:
x264 - core 54 svn-598 - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec - Copyleft 2005 - http://www.videolan.org/x264.html - options: cabac=1 ref=6 deblock=1:-1:-1 analyse=0x3:0x1 me=hex subme=1 brdo=0 mixed_ref=0 me_range=7 chroma_me=1 trellis=0 8x8dct=1 cqm=0 deadzone=21,10 chroma_qp_offset=12 slices=1 nr=1 decimate=1 mbaff=0 bframes=3 b_pyramid=1 b_adapt=1 b_bias=0 direct=1 wpredb=1 bime=1 keyint=250 keyint_min=25 scenecut=40 rc=cqp qp=24 ip_ratio=1,40 pb_ratio=1,30
me=hex (should be umh)
subme=1 (should be 7)
brdo=0 (should be 1)
mixed_ref=0 (should be 1)
trellis=0 (should be 2)
The problem does not appear with the (outdated) libx264.dll that ships with Avidemux 2.3.0.
Celtic's latest build of Avidemux uses x264 rev600 and also works fine!
