i have a suggestion to make!

fix the inconsistency and double negatives:

x264 encoder options
http://img31.picoodle.com/img/img31/4/1/18/f_fastpskip1cm_9ff599f.png (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/1/18/f_fastpskip1cm_9ff599f.png&srv=img31)

so check or uncheck for QUALITY>SPEED?? i've read it a couple times and i still don't know whether to check or uncheck it :o

ShadowVlican, I have reported that issue long ago.
But it seems nobody seems to be willing to fix the x264 configure dialog at the moment.
Various settings in that dialog are not working yet. Also CQMs are there, but not working.

I'd say you have to uncheck "Fast P-Skip" in order to disable fast p-skip and get max quality.
Although the hint message isn't correct...

//EDIT

Yes, unchecking the "Fast P-Skip" option results in:
[x264] analyse.b_fast_pskip = 0 :)

I think that only option name in the window is messed and should be "NoFast P-skip" and in that case unchecking it should increase quality and decrease speed.

I'm not sure whether any of the controls on the "More" tab actually do work. Custom quantization matrices don't work for sure. Also we have "Bitrate Variability" and "Quantizer (Curve) Compression" options, although they both refer to the very same x264 setting....

thanks for your replies

i guess i should time my encodes with and without that option just to verify :)

it's too bad no one is willing to fix the x264 options box, avidemux is a great program otherwise

Well, it seems the Avidemux devs are busy with more important stuff:
We're currently concentrating on fixing bugs in 2.4 so I'd imagine new features will be on the backburner for a little while.

I've downloaded the latest AviDemux, but I have yet to have any success with the copy mode. I load up an mkv x.264 file and make my cuts, and I'm using copy mode for video and audio, but it doesn't cut any of the audio, I left a commercial in an encode and I just wanted to cut it out. It cuts the video perfectly, but when it comes to the point in the video where I cut out the commercial, the video is right, but the audio proceeds to play the commercial that I thought was cut out.

Is there a trick to cutting the audio out on a straight copy mode, I tried copy the video and encode the audio to faac, but the same thing, the audio stream does not appear to get cut at all.

I finally did get it to cut the audio, when I remuxed the original video with ac3, instead of aac that the original mkv had. But, it started having audio sync issues within the first couple of minutes of the 41 minute video.

LoRd_MuldeR
27th January 2008, 13:46
You should be able to cut the audio along with the video in "Copy" mode.
But cutting H.264 video in a frame-accurate way is not supported yet.
Also you should run "Tools" -> "Rebuild Frames (I & B)" when processing MKV files...

If you think you found a bug, report it here:

No, it's available for download as installer only. What's wrong with that?
I could install it and re-upload as a ZIP file. But I won't do that without a good reason...

Just to let people know, it appears there may be a bug with the x264 B-Frame Direct Mode drop down menu in Avidemux.

I made a post about it here:

http://www.avidemux.org/admForum/viewtopic.php?id=4465

Basically, you need to set the drop down menu to "None" to get -direct auto

Setting it to "Auto" basically sets it to -direct none

I think they should be in the range between 0 and 3, not between 1 and 4

There appears to be a "--force-alt-h264" option but not a don't force option. My batch gets stuck there everytime waiting for me to enter "n". Am I missing something?

Avidemux r3974

MPG (fails)
TS (fails crashes after indexing in every mode also after reconstructing the pictures very weired behavior)
M2TS (fails)
MP4 (fails)
MKV (fails)

It looks like Videolan isn't Mbaff patched yet and Avidemux still has issues @ parsing stuff, especially with AVC inside Program Stream all fail (not yet libavformat supported?) :(
Tough all in all that's a very good overall result (almost 100% of AVC supported container are working now OSS) only MPG is missing, compared to 1 year ago allot has been achieved congrats to all involved and AviDemux just has to get it correctly integrated now :)

Heres also a short sample of the index file

I downloaded and installed Avidemux 2.4.1 SVN-r4028 (2008-05-14).

I encoded XVID with Didees SixOfNine-HVS.cqm matrix, but when I see avi file with Avinaptic, it tell me Quant Type is H.263 not Custom matrix.

What's wrong ?

1. Make sure that the "Custom Matrix" option is selected (not "H.263")
2. Use "Open CQM file" to load the desired matrix
3. Click "Edit Custom Matrix" in order to check that the matrix was loaded properly
4. Close the dialog with "OK"

If it still doesn't work, there might be a bug and it should be reported...

1. Yes
2. Yes, and it appears a dialog that say the matrix was loaded.
3. Yes the values showed are correct
4. Yes

and avinaptic shows H.263

The problem is the same if I create a custom script for encoder preset.

I run avs_proxy_gui -> load an avs file -> Create Proxy > popup avidemux window -> File -> Save -> save Video.

Also at Preferences -> Output -> I have checked Create OpenDml files, but Avinaptic show Avi not Avi OpenDML.

I use avidemux for windows GTK , since QT4 it does not allow Custom matrix.

Note:
With Avidemux 2.4 r3731 the same problems.

Not Avi OpenDML
Not Custom matrix.

H263 and MPEG works well.
