New revisions are committed almost every day. New builds are provided each time significant changes have been made, usually at least once a week.
The most simple way to keep your Avidemux version up-to-date is either follow this thread or check Gruntster's Site (http://avidemux.razorbyte.com.au/) regularly!
In case you don't encounter any problems, you don't need to update to the latest SVN build. But before you report any problems, make sure those are still present in the latest build...

libx264 SVN-r930 + Psy RDO 0.5 + Psy-Trellis 0.1 + B-Frame Trellis (Fixed) + Gruntster's Alignment-Fix:
http://www.mediafire.com/?exzb1shuj6z
Compiled with MinGW GCC 4.3.1-tdm-1 (fprofiled). Modified to be used with current Avidemux builds. Tested with Avidemux 2.4.3 r4297.
Now checking "B-Frames -> Adaptive" will enable the new/slow (Trellis-based) B-Frame decision method, unchecking will use the old/fast method.
Commented out an assert in order to prevent the 2-Pass crash with b_adapt=2. It's an ugly workaround, but works for me...
For testing only! Don't use this for your regular encodes yet...

Feature Request:
Is it possible to allow a larger buffer size for MPEG-2 encodings. I'm encoding 1920x1080i video to 1280x720p. I need a larger buffer size than what is offered for DVD. It would be nice I could cusomize the buffer size myself instead of just picking DVD, VCD, or SVCD.
Ditto with bitrate above 9999kbps.

RealMedia is a proprietary format, so I highly doubt that Avidemux will ever be able to encode to that format.

Compiled with MinGW GCC 4.3.1-tdm-1 (fprofiled). Hacked to work with Avidemux. Tested with Avidemux 2.4.3 r4297.
Now checking "B-Frames -> Adaptive" will enable the new/slow (Trellis-based) B-Frame decision method, unchecking will use the old/fast method.
Take care: Avidemux will loose the last few frames when the new B-Frame Decision method is used! 2-Pass won't work properly either...

Anyone else had this issue?
I am doing XviD (around 450mb) to XviD (want to have it be 1 CD or 700mb in size) and it's drastically undersized.
I setup all the params properly and then I use the built-in calc and choose the 1 CD size option, and my video comes out around 551mb. What is causing this? I am using multiple video filters, and upsampling audio 44100hz to 48000hz.

What filters, in which order, at what resolution, and for what duration ?
Any reason you want to have a bigger filesize ? Are you actually upsizing the video ? Isn't the quality already perfect (ie: quantizer 2 for each and every P-frame) ?. Did you set the minimum quantizers in the XviD options to 1 instead of 2 ?
Undersizing is sometimes very normal for certain sources but usually when that happens the quality is already perfect (codecs don't like wasting bits =)).

x264 now automatically calculates the level according the encoding parameters : http://git.videolan.org/gitweb.cgi?p=x264.git;a=commit;h=14046ae09f91272751f3df4d70fb0268321ee557

Dunno about AQ though ... maybe it's enabled but the header is wrong ?

In Avidemux you cannot adjust AQ yet, it will always use the default of "2:1.0".
However Yonta used "rc=cqp", so he explicitly enforces constant quantizers, hence no AQ. The header is correct :p
No idea why one would use CQP instead of CRF. The latter performs MUCH better ...

I encoded with x264.exe CLI without specifying level and it came out as High@L3.1. So, no problem.
Regarding AQ being disabled by default, I chose Single Pass - Quality Quantizer (Constant) instead of Single Pass - Quality Quantizer (Average), my bad.
Wording is pretty confusing!

Yes, in fact CRF is "Constant Rate Factor", it's not "Average Quantizer". The quantizer you enter for CRF mode is multiplied with a magic number in order to calculate the rate factor. Internally only that rate factor will be used for a CRF encode. However the magic number was chooses specifically to make CRF act like an "Average Quantizer" mode.

Move adaptive quantization to before ratecontrol, eliminate qcomp bias. This change improves VBV accuracy and improves bit distribution in CRF and 2pass.
WARNING: This change redefines CRF when using AQ, so output bitrate for a given CRF may be significantly different from before this change!
Note: Latest Avidemux build uses "libx264-61.dll" instead of "libx264.dll". You must rename the DLL to use it with older builds...

i try with a few player media classic/mplayer/kmplayer
although some players display correct fps (mplayer), but both the files produce by r4346/r4347 playback stuttering

after some more tests, changing x264 settings
(i alway use the same custom setting previously for all test)
i think the problem may be cause by b_pyramid
but still it does not output constant frame rate mode mp4 like those produce by other encoding gui (megui...)
(after r4219)
b_pyramid=0
Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 25.000 fps
Minimum frame rate : 24.975 fps
Maximum frame rate : 25.025 fps
b_pyramid=1 (stutter playback)
Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 22.177 fps
Minimum frame rate : 12.494 fps
Maximum frame rate : 25.025 fps
Original frame rate : 25.000 fps
b_pyramid=0 or 1 (r4219 or below)
Frame rate mode : Constant
Frame rate : 25.000 fps

how come the 'offset' and 'ratio' parameters for B-frames in Xvid where never implemented?

What exactly are those settings supposed to do?

ratio = adds a pre-defined quantizer ratio to the I-frames quantizer, and apply it to the B-frames
offset = also adds to the b-frames quantizer, but with no relation to the I-frames quantizer.

I just checked the VfW version of Xvid and it does have these options. So these options obviously are implemented in Xvid.
Avidemux simply doesn't reveal those options yet. You may file a feature request, although Xvid appears to be a dead project anyway...

great, thanks for the lightning-speed reply!
btw, how to i file this feature request?
and i don't know if these parameters exist in H.264, but if so, I'll check if Avidemux doesn't reveal those options also

Either create a new thread in the Avidemux Forums (http://avidemux.org/admForum/) or add a "Feature Request" to the Avidemux Bugtracker (http://bugs.avidemux.org/).

Avidemux does reveal the "Factor between I- and P-Frame quants" and "Factor between P- and B-Frame quants" options for the x264 encoder.
But I'd highly recommend to keep the default settings, unless you have a very good reason to change them...

I'm still a bit clueless regarding H.264, but it's good to know these options are available.
i'll post the "Feature Request" tomorrow.
thank you again, you've been a great help!
