I'm away on holidays later today. There will be no new builds on my site until 15 June.

Again do not work custom matrices! Why all the same? It is complex for carrying out? :( Uh

Until you see matrices listed in the changelog, it's likely to stay that way. You'll need to open a ticket, if one isn't open already, and try to get support for it.

Again do not work custom matrices! Why all the same? It is complex for carrying out? :( Uh
Again: Custom Matrices are not implemented yet. In fact the whole "x264 configuration" dialog is not in a final state at this moment. So you will either have to wait until the developers are done with it (I think SadaraX is working on it) or you will have to do it yourself and submit a patch. I guess Custom Matrices are low priority work, as in most cases the Default Matrix (flat matrix) will be fine...

It's not truth, because High details matrices the beautiful. Flat matrices give not details!

It's not truth, because High details matrices the beautiful. Flat matrices give not details!
That might be the case for HQ material and for high bitrates, but not for general purpose.
Also it doesn't change the fact, that Custom Quant Matrices are not implemented yet.
So please either be patient or contribute a patch...
have 2 custom x264 with different settings
custom only work once
the setting remain the same as the first one even when you choose another custom file.
nobody use custom file?
this bug is still there with the latest version

@wata : I see you mentionned this 3 times already and nobody actually knows an answer (me included, since I never understood how it worked and never managed to get it to work at all).
What are you actually doing with avidemux ? (step by step so I can reproduce it).
I'll report the "problem" to mean (avidemux dev) if I have the same problem you have.
Actually this interests me right now since I didn't find a way to save my settings other than using a project file ... (which is associated to a video in particular).

If you remove the app.load("...") from the project/script, it will apply any settings in it to the currently loaded video. It's an undocumented feature I found just as I was about to ask mean for such a capability. :D
i have 2 custom setting file i edit from project save file
and put in Documents and Settings\User\avidemux\custom\ folder.
one for faster encode (fast.js)

i load one video and choose from custom menu fast.js
and add to joblist
next i load another video and choose slow.js but the setting doesn't change this time.
btw, i use avidemux exclusive now, since i mostly encode mpeg2 tv capture to x264, and avidemux allow me to edit out the commercial without having to save into another mpeg2 before encode.

haha, that's exactly what I do :D
About the custom script problem: I now understand your problem! That's definitely something you should report to the forum, if it's reproduceable. I'm sure it will be fixed soon...

Ohhh yay it works ! Many thx for the heads-up boyz&girlz =)
Actually in r3140 I don't have the issue at all !
I can open a video, change custom settings several times, open another video, and re-change custom settings several times again, ! Note : I used different audio & video codecs in both custom settings files for quick checking.
Side note : When saving a project from a loaded custom file (like I wanted a q18 profile and a q20 profile with same settings), the project file has 0-length (empty file) apparently o_O

Thanks in advance.

Mean did so here : http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/win32/r3201_full.zip
Edit: be warned, the FAAC bitrate choice isn't respected, so you'll only get 128kbps (this was the case in r3140 already actually). Mean has been informed, be patient ^^

i don't think avidemux is a good tools. I tried it, lot of bugs, and does not encode/compress video audio well. It cannot open some avi file, which virtualdub can. That is the biggest point. I like the fact it support many format, but lot of works need to be done.

i don't think avidemux is a good tools. I tried it, lot of bugs, and does not encode/compress video audio well. It cannot open some avi file, which virtualdub can. That is the biggest point. I like the fact it support many format, but lot of works need to be done.
1. If you think you found a bug, go to the Avidemux forum or the Bugtracker. This way you can find out if you really found a (new) bug. And if so, you can file a bugreport in order to help to fix that bug
2. Avidemux uses common encoder libraries for encoding/compression: libavcodec, mpeg2enc, Xvid and x264. Therefore it won't compress any better or any worse than other applications which use those encoders! If you think those OpenSource encoders don't do a good job, you'll have to buy proprietary encoders :p
3. VirtualDub itself can not open any AVI file, because it uses VfW Codecs. So whether an AVI will open (or not open) in VirtualDub depends on the VfW Codecs you have installed on your system! Avidemux uses it's own decoders instead of the old-fashioned and platform-specific VfW interface. Therefore no additional software (like Codecs, Plugins, Filters or whatever) will be needed for Avidemux. In case your AVI file doesn't open in Avidemux, this means your file is either borked or the video/audio format isn't supported by Avidemux yet. But I cannot tell you now, because you didn't provide any useful information...
BTW: Don't post comments like this in the FAQ sticky! We have an Avidemux thread for that!

A vfw interface has been brought up in the past, either old-fashioned vfw or interfacing with the codecs directly, but it's complex and a low priority when ffmpeg handles most things. There are a fair number of codecs that are still vfw-only, sadly, and if you work with a lot of files made with them, avidemux probably isn't a good fit for you.
The GTK version is much less buggy than the QT version, in case you were using that, although it doesn't look as nice.

Also note that Avidemux can use VfW Codecs via Avisynth input and AVISource(), video only though...

Lagarith, Fraps 2, Leadtools h.264 (which isn't compatible with ffmpeg's or anyone else's), wmv9 AP, Indeo 4 & 5, both MSU lossless and most other lossless codecs, all mjpeg2000 codecs, TSCC, VP7, and VP6 if the patch isn't included, to name a few. Almost all production codecs, not release codecs.

1. I don't know that "Leadtools h.264", but H.264 encoding via VfW is a bad idea for the well-known reasons. Also if Avidemux doesn't open Leadtools files this means that either Leadtool produces borked H.264 bitstream or lavc's H.264 decoder doesn't support a specific feature used by Leadtools.
2. You list various lossless codecs. I guess if one of them is missing in Avidemux that's either because that Codec is ClosedSource and thus cannot be added or it's a rarely used Codec not on the priority list. Also Avidemux supports two excellent and widely used lossless Codecs: HuffYUV and FFv1.
3. Why in the world should anybody use an archaic and proprietary format like Indeo nowadays, instead of MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP or H.264 ??? And if somebody has some old Indeo videos on his HDD, he must be a Windows user. So he can easily convert those videos via VDub using the pre-installed Indeo Codecs. Or he can also open those videos in Avidemux via Avisynth/AVISource().
4. As Avidemux can open FLV files (FLV1 as well as FLV4), I'm pretty sure that it does support VP6.
5. I guess MJPEG2000 is not supported, because it's a proprietary format. Or is there a working OpenSource implementation yet?

That's exactly my point, and why some form of vfw interface, whether it's through avisynth or a built-in API, is necessary to some people. It's not about making new files, which can easily be done in a compatible format, it's about working with ones that you have in storage without transcoding all of them first. (Yes, leadtools h.264 isn't standard, and doesn't work with any other decoder. Pointless and annoying codec, but some use it.) It's not seen as the best use of the devs' time, though, which I'm not arguing for, just pointing out that there are a substantial number of existing files that still need vfw out there.
I guess avidemux must include the VP6 patch, which is nice.

Anyone know if it's possible to, say, turn a 60 fps mp4 with AAC to a 30 fps mp4 and not have the sound lose sync?
I can't find any options in the audio filters config to do this. I only see settings for None, Film to PAL and PAL to Film.
LoRd_MuldeR
19th July 2007, 10:49
Resampling the FPS doesn't change the duration of the video, so Audio should kepp in sync without any special settings.
I have just made a quick test, and it seems to work fine here...
Or do you want to keep the number of frames, but change the framerate? (-> change duration of the movie?)
Schrade
19th July 2007, 10:53
No, I just want to take a 60fps MP4 (formatted for a PS3) and downconvert it to 30 fps so it'll play on my AMD Athlon XP 2400+ At 60fps it's far too much for my system to handle.

In that case goto "Video" -> "Filters" and add the "Transform" -> "Resample fps" filter. That's it.

"not in sync" means: Completely out of sync or just slightly? And is the delay constant or is it getting worse of the movie?

@Schrade
If it's a constant delay, then you can check "shift" and correct the delay by hand.
If this is not working, I guess you should file a bugreport at the Avidemux board (http://www.avidemux.org/admForum/viewforum.php?id=14).
@Gromozeka
Avidemux can not load VDub filters, if that is what you want.
Avidemux does have an interface for "external" filters, but it's not compatible with VDub's....
