There's an interesting list on Verbatim's page that comprises some BDR-burners and their compatibility with the new LTH disks it manufactures.

On the reverse page of this 2-pages document there's a second list with standalones' compatibility.
Notable incompatibles are: Samsung P1600, Sharp HP1, Pioneer LX70, LG BD370 and Sylvania NB500SL9.

So, it might also be important to list the type of the tested disc (the cheaper are almost surely LTH), the burner and the tester.

I have successfully used 2x LTH Verbatim on a Samsung 1600.

I just received a couple of cake boxes of Ridata Hub Printable 4x BD-Rs from Meritline... under $2.00 each and the four I've used so far have worked great. The prices keep dropping, and I'm loving it.

Note: Interestingly the price just went up by 12 cents a disc -- so they could now offer free shipping.

I had bought a 25-pack from Meritline for $55.99+shipping, the BDR-254-RDIWN-CB25 print-to-hub and no coasters yet, maybe 5 used thus far. I also could not resist a 50-pack of Memorex DVD+R DL for $35.99, and they a working as well. Dunno if the Ritek factories have figured it out, but this is good news for another reason: driving prices down. My last visit to Sam's showed their 50-pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL going for $40 where a month ago they were $60. :)

For DVD-DL I use Verbatim only. They are still ~ €22 here for 25pcs but their quality was simply the best I tried.

The Verbatim BD-R LTH were €18 for 10pcs.

I would not use the Verbatim BD-r LTH if i were you. In my testing, they have been very unreliable in playback for different standalone blu ray players. I have also experienced many inconsistent burn errors. Stay away!! They are cheap for a reason.

Verbatim BD-R 4x and 6x are more stable and reliable.

I've been getting mine from RunTechMedia, the Optical Quantum brand. 50$ for 25 disc and Free shipping in the US. So far no problems, they burn at 8x on my LGWH08LS20.
Disc ID: PHILIP-R04-00. Just thought I would share :)

Cant say so from my experience so far.

Burnt with decent speed (2x) I havent had any problems with either bunring or playback. They play just fine.

Of course it may always be a matter of burner firmware or player but in my case I must say: good media with great value for money.

Do some research if you want to try the LTH disks. Be sure to check the compatible burners listed on the Verbatim website. I thought my LG WH10LS30K would support it, but not without a firmware update that LG hasn't or won't do. Disks played on the computer they were burned on, but not on two Samsung players and an Oppo player. Non LTH disks played fine.

Which Samsung players were it in your case because on my 1600 the LTH work flawlessly.

Don't know offhand because one belonged to a friend, the other to a relative. Both are 2009/2010 purchases. I posted a query about my coasters on the BD-RB bug thread; my playability problem was fixed with a change of media because my burner didn't support LTH. My point is to pay attention that the hardware on both ends is compatible with LTH.

FYI at my Sam's Club they'd reduced the price first from $59.99 to $39.99, then to $29.99, and now they are completely gone in favor of Memorex brand. It appears they no longer carry Verbs.

I suggest to anyone who finds the Verbatims at this price that they buy 'em right away! Before they're gone!

They are Verbatim LTH (http://www.frys.com/product/6207880?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG)--just FYI. I ordered this exact product elsewhere recently, but haven't yet tried burning any of them. My Sony BDP-S350 should work with them though.

Just realized about that today when I bought one. Lucky for me, my BDP-S350 and LG burner "should" work according to the compatibility document.

A.Fenderson
16th June 2010, 20:32
That compatibility .pdf hasn't been updated (that I've noticed) since it first appeared. I can confirm my BDP-S350 and PS3 both work with these just fine with these LTH, but my Lite-On iHOS104-08 internal BD-ROM drive will not read them at all (it's not on the chart, but I had to try).

Does anyone know of any additional players/burners/readers that are LTH compatible (either new or via firmware update) but that haven't yet appeared on Verbatim's chart?

It helps only a look on mfg's webpage, or screening out the FW's history. There were also some databases with drives and their features, not sure whether accurate and/or actual.

Just wanted to post that I just bought some of these discs (http://www.meritline.com/blu-ray-bd-r-4x-25gb-white-inkjet-hub-printable-media---p-48708.aspx) from MERITLINE. I'm on my third disc and they seem to work well... which is incredible considering that I got 50 BD-Rs for 59.99 ($1.20 ea). That makes DVD-9 backups kinda' OBE.

Thanks jdobbs; the mfr doesn't appear to be any of the usual suspects. One thing I miss btw from an actual burn log is the writer you use (for compatibility). Which? Mine's a LG GGW-H20L which has burned everything to-date.

Well I'm damned if I can find anything about manufacturer "OTC" or Merax, so let us know if your happiness with this cake goes south... ;)

I have been using Memorex branded 4x, 15per spindle purchased from Fry's for $19.99. They have the same IMGBurn Disc ID as those Ridata's cake box:

Hi!

I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but I'd suggest you keep a careful eye on your newly acquired blank media. Historically, while Optodisc manufactured high quality blank CDs, they failed miserably (under their own name and a multitude of others) with their DVD media - low price, poor quality (many initial failures), and burned DVDs that failed after a brief period of time "on the shelf"...

I agree, these prices are as good as, unless on sale, DVD+R DL media.
I'm quite sure bug reports would be almost eliminated too, if more users went to BD-R media.
But I just can't get over the challenge of making full disc backups to BD5/9 media, and they look awesome! :p

I have the WH10LS30 OEM model. It's a commercial product without ANY support from LG. It includes a firmware update program that does absolutely nothing, but sit in the system tray. I haven't had any problems with this drive, but I did purchase the egg 1 year replacement service for 16.99. Heck, it will be worn out by then and need replacement anyway ;)

Anybody have experience with Kodak BD-R white inkjet printable? Are they HTL or LTH? I can't find any reviews online.

Unless they're going for a customer service failure of epic proportions, they won't be LTH if it's not printed prominently on the package (and from the pics I found, it's not).

Copy of NewEgg invoice above does not include $5 mail in rebate. I have burned a couple BluRay movies of around 21G size with ImageBurn, which maxed out at 8x, (burn time under 15 minutes) using LG WH10LS30 10X burner. I cannot find DVD DL discs much cheaper than this. If you factor in the time of BD9 recoding, BD25 backup is going to be more cost & quality effective. Maybe JDobbs can work on an option to split a BD9 over 2 standard DVDs, which would be the cheapest option.
