Do you download it with Internet Explorer?

I use FF2.

Thank you sir!

Quick question.

Can we keep the old documents folder and just overwrite the rest?

EDIT: I guess not.

Configuration files are generally not compatible between releases. I could work around it but it'd be very low on my priority list.

Does the new version (v0.95) pick up subtitles from mkv's as well as audio and video tracks? What about chapter information? I'm guessing that it doesn't, because you're just using DirectShowSource()... Maybe when an mkv is selected, you could analyze which tracks it has, and add the subtitle tracks to the subs list in the DVD options pane. Then you can have the batch file extract them using mkvextract.

I tested two MKVs today and both have sound for the first minute (an exactly one minute!) then silence. Any ideas?

Mr_Odwin
24th May 2007, 21:04
I have no idea actually. It's very odd that it would be okay for the first minute and then go. Are the mkvs small enough to send to me, or are they freely/legally available somewhere for download?

It doesn't. MKVs are a pain in the ass! Mediainfo doesn't work nicely with them (I have to extract the AC3 audio before it'll say whether it's dvd compliant or not) so I'm not sure if it detects subtitle streams, and I've never personally worked with subtitle tracks. I'll look into it. I know it's a pain, but for now you'll have to do it manually.

Can you show me the contents of the FAVC\Documents\Config.ini and FAVC\Documents\Advanced_Config.ini files? This lets me see all the settings that you use.

You can use mkvinfo, part of mkvtoolnix... it's fast (i.e. does not parse the whole file) and lists the the different tracks. A bit of simple parsing on its output and you're in business. Then it's just:
mkvextract tracks "mymovie.mkv" 3:mysubsfile.srt
in the batch file.

(plus you might need to fiddle with subtitle charsets)

Is this a problem with FAVC? Just DVD Decrypter isn't a part of the FAVC package, so I'm a little confused.
If it is a FAVC problem then can you describe to me the files that are produced in the most recent Working Folder.

I get the same error "first image file part is less than 2048". (apologies in advance for anything missing or if I'm posting the obvious)

Files in the working folder (0) are

Batchmux (Config settings)
Title (MS-DOS Batch file)
Title0 (avisynth script)
Title0 (Winamp media file)
Title0Info (avisynth script)
Title0Info (text file)
TitleChap0 (text file)
TitleInfo (MS-DOS Batch file)

Just to let everyone know - it's a UK holiday this weekend so I'm staying with family until Monday evening, where I have limited internet access (and my wife tells me to not sneak away and be anti-social). I'll attempt to address all issues on my return to normal life.

No Advanced_Config.ini is fine - it just means that you're not playing with the advanced scripting tab. Your setti8ngs seem fine so I'm at a loss as to why it failed with the MKVs. Does twolame/FAVC create mp2 files that are longer than just a minute in the working folder?

@Mr_Odwin,

I may ask, when there is the menu support???

other one asks:
for example i have a DV-Pal interlaced video, does FAVC deinterlaced it or leave it interlaced???

thank you for that super programm!!!

cu :D

Mr_Odwin
30th May 2007, 20:56
FAVC automatically deinterlaces but you can easily edit the batch file and script files before execution if you'd like to change this.

Menu support - probably in the next release. It's now supported in BatchMux so it's just setting aside the time to get it done.

After a quick test last night (using the retain AC3 setting) it appeared to generate a 1 minute AC3 file. I'll give it a better test tonight with the convert to MP2 option selected.

Hi Mr. Odwin,:)

I tried FAVC 0.93, 0.94, 0.95 with both QuEnc and HCEnc on a test clip AVI and the following happens ...

1) I get Garbled Video with "Speed" and "Balance" settings.

2) I get a fair output only on "Quality" setting BUT the Video is BLUE !?!?!?

I leave all other choices as they are since I am not very savvy in Video stuff.

Q1: What is the probelm? Why BLUE Video?

Q2: Why the Speed & Balance Settings are not working for me?

FYI, I am running Windows XP, SP2.

Thanks,
G!

Hi Mr. Odwin,:)

I just happen to see "soopafresh" little short guide and I Ticked the "UseDirectShowSource" under Advnaced Scripting and that solved my "BLUE" Video iamge ... And somehow now other 2 Speed & Balance settings are working also.

Since I am not that Technically savvy ... I don't know why that fixed my problem ... but it has ... annnnnd I am Fat, Dumb, and Happy.

BTW, is there a "GUIDE" for this wonderful tool anywhere!?!?

Thanks,
G!:stupid:

Mr_Odwin
1st June 2007, 09:34
The fact that ticking "Use DirectShow" worked for you probably means that it's codec related and not a fault on the side of FAVC. (The avisynth script should be identical for balance & quality.)
You can check this by opening the video you were converting in Virtualdub.
If that doesn't confirm it, you could upload a snippet/part of the clip so that I can examine it myself.

There's no guide available that I'm aware of.

Feature Request -- have you considered additional encoders -- Cinemacraft specifically?

Thanks :).

gonwk
3rd June 2007, 17:34
Hi DavidK,

As Mr. Odwin had stated before ... I don't think is FAVC fault and I also don't think is HCEnc or QuEnc fault either ... since I use these 2 fine "Freeware" encoders in other GUI programs and they perform fine.

As far as CinemaCraft (CCE) the freeware version I CAN NEVER figure out how to work it or WHICH version I have to download since it is a Japanese site.

I wish I could get the darn thing to work ... so as I could compare CinemaCraft vs. HCEnc when using DVDRebuilder Freeware version.

Not to be steering away from FAVC ... since this is FAVC Thread and I don 't want anyone to get Mad at me ... may be You can PM me the right download URL ... or other helpful URLs.

Thanks,
G!:)

That's my thoughts. Show me the corresponding "faulty" AviSynth script and we can go from there. :)

Hi Mr_Odwin,:)

I did what you asked me ... I opened my test AVI clip with VirtualDub 1.6.17, 1.7.1 and even with VDub MPEG2 ... since I am not at all Familiar with VDub's capability ... I was not sure what exactly you wanted me to see ...

Also, I like to mention I tried to snip a portion of my Test AVI Clip with VDub ... and it failed every time ... it gave me the Video A-OK ... but the sound was not there ... I tried "Direct Streaming" and also "Full Processing Mode" ... and saving as a new AVI and "No Luck".

So, I decided to take you upon your Generous offer and I am attaching a clip of my Test AVI Clip ... I clipped using a different tool ... more of "Dummy Proof" tool ...

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Thanks,
G!:)

The clip worked perfectly with FAVC at my end.
Although Virtualdub did say that the mp3 audio was "Truncated or invalid (16 bytes should be 30)".

FAVC v1.00 has finally been released and the links in the first post have been updated accordingly.
I've decided to make this the 1.00 release as Automatic Menu Generation for up to 8 Titles has been added. This has taken lots of work (for both myself and Sir Didymus) and was not a trivial thing. Perhaps down the line support for more than 8 Titles will be added, but for now this will have to suffice.
The menus generated are simple but I like them. (And that's what matters most. :p)

Just threw in a bunch of clips with different resolutions, different filesizes, different fourCC's, decoded everything with ffdshow, menu function enabled. Works fast and furious :p
My favourite App for now.

Exciting news, Mr_Odwin. I've been looking forward to the auto menu ability. I figured you would get around to it if nobody hassled you :) Should be the icing on the cake.

I'm still thinking the ability to match the bitrate to the video complexity would be a good thing on multi title encodes. We discussed this once at some length. Have you given any more thought to it?

It is true this would require a 2% sample to be made on each source in advance of the real encode. Assuming all the sources are similar this would not be worth the trouble. If however, the source's complexity is dissimilar the result would better use the available bitrate by providing the more complex sources additional bandwidth and of course reducing the bandwidth on the lower complexity sources.

Whether it is worth the hassle I just don't know. It definitely falls into the bells and whistles category.

Great work and much appreciated. Thanks again.

Distributing bitrate according to source complexity is on the to-do list in the first post. The list isn't in order of priority but I still don't know when I'll get to it. Adding menus fried my brain a bit so I think I'll tackle something less daunting first. :)

Well, just completed my first menu test - 4 US NTSC episodes to a PAL DVD. All went well and as you say, a simple but functional menu was produced (hopefully a few more customisable features will be added in the future?). One small issue - when the disc started, it was episode 4 that was initially selected, not 1!

I just spotted where the problem lies. It'll be fixed in the next release but if you want to do it yourself then go to "FAVC\Menu\PAL\# Title" then in all of the Buttons.mnu files (open in notepad) replace the following line
set ::menued::force_select_but 0

with

set ::menued::force_select_but 1

Mr_Odwin; it looks like (using eyes) that font is wider than it should be? (720 -> 768 issue?)

Mr_Odwin
14th June 2007, 14:51
That must be it (the stretching). The font used is plain old Verdana, not for any particular reason, and maybe your eyes just don't like it. In the future I'll add font selection to menu creation (along with several other tweaks) so you can pick a different one.

For now if you don't like the menu image (including text) then you can stop title.bat and edit the menu.avs file. Colour of text is easily changed, as is the font used. (Don't change subtitle positions though as that'll screw up the button placement.)

Viewing menu.avs in say Media Player Classic appears to be a good way to test the look of the menu before a long encoding session. Could you maybe add a button to FAVC to be able to do this?

Also, maybe a 10 second countdown could be added to the FAVC conversion has started dialogue box with a continue, stop and maybe open destination directory/config file buttons to allow easy editing of ini/avs files?

A menu preview button is forthcoming.
Your other idea is a good one. Currently there is a checkbox on the advanced tab that allows you to edit the avs files and the batch file (but this leaves out the menu.avs and HC ini files) and I don't like the editor that I've created so I think I'll remove it and go with your suggestion or something similar (no idea how to make a countdown. :scared:)
