I run Win 7 Ultimate 32bit and just installed FAVC v107. I downed the favc_107.exe 32bit file, ran it & it asked where to extract files to, gave a folder. I then ran the favc.exe and all is working working fine here after loading an xvid avi. I had Avisynth 2.58 installed prior via another program. All 8 cores running fine with HCEnc using my i7, then Aften kicked in, followed by Pulldown on all 8 parts & finally Muxman did its job. Final DVD played back okay as expected.

Recently i'm using FAVC 1.07 for encoding .mkv files to normal VOB files that goes on a DVD9 for my normal dvd player.
Everything goes very well. But when i look at the result there are no subs in it.
I add them in DVD Options menu into the program.
Box Hard subtitles not checked.
Sub is a .srt file.
So thing is everything (encoding) goes well. Also inserting a sub srt file is accepted by the program.
Result Good looking movie but without a sub. When i press subtitles on the remote control of my dvd player it says it has one but it won't show. Same thing on the PC. I can select a sub but no show.
Anyone can tell me what i maybe do wrong ?
Thanks!
I'm having the same trouble but with avi files. Sometimes the subs work sometimes not. Can't figure out why. In all cases the originals will play fine with subs in VLC

Got a little problem with using FAVC and I'm not really able to isolate where the problem is occurring. It causes, what I'd describe, little frame jumps at certain parts of HCenc/Quenc-encoded MPEG streams. It only happens when MulticoreEnc is selected and only on H264 sources, it seems.
This video, an FAVC encode of mine, shows an example of what I mean.
http://www.opendrive.com/files/6151316_Tdxkj_8e61/HL2Dancer.mp4 MP4 (H.264) 576x352 25fps 19-seconds 378KB
The frame problem only happens at the points where the m2v streams have been joint. Hence, the more threads I select in FAVC options the more jumps that occur in the video.

Avisynth 2.6.0a2 (had the issue with Avisynth 2.5.8, too)

Reinstalling XP.
It works fine on Vista. Both 32 bit and 64 bit. I don't know what the issue is on W7.
edit: Well I suppose I shouldn't say "fine" as that implies it's totally consistent. I do get on occasion an incomplete mux/authoring for some strange reason. I'm avoiding discarding working files because sometimes I do have to author from the audio and video manually. It just quits with no error msg. I've taken to using AVStoDVD since I get consistent good results, it's more versatile on input, accepting .m2ts files as well as .mkv, and it doesn't crap out with an incomplete authoring job. Doesn't run quite as fast as FAVC on a quad core but it gets it done in just a bit longer than the video run time.
But afa refusing to install or not starting the job, none of that. It runs HCenc or quenc, on the video, processes the audio, but it's almost like at times it doesn't properly update the .ifo file during the authoring step. Strange.
It is a bit finicky. Too bad it looks like there's no fixes on the way.

Sorted my issue (two posts up).
I used Win7DSFilterTweaker to stop Windows 7 using its Media Foundation H264 decoder. FAVC has been perfect with CoreAVC.

Hi,
love the program, it has served me well.
Now with a recent project I need to alter the menu a bit more. I've already altered the background image, but what I'd really like to do is change the text to left-align, alter the highlight colour on selection and bump down the heading a bit (there's a logo on the background).
I see that it creates an AVS script to create the image (in the preview folder) and I could alter that, but that won't affect the actual creation (or does it?) and even so, buttons would still be out of place.
Now if I am browsing and understanding the directories correctly, I need to fix the Buttons.mnu file corresponding to my amount of choices, with the last one in the list being the "Play All" - not too hard considering the clearly labelled x and y. But where's the avs template for the background creation? Or is that generated via the mnu file?
Cheers for the help.

I have been using FAVC for a year or so - very nice package! One odd thing popped up the other day, though. I was creating a
dvd of an avi file that was exactly 140:00 minutes long with chapters to be set at ten minute intervals. TitleChap0.txt ended
up with 14 timestamps. However, Muxman went south because of not being able to find the 15th segment. I edited TitleChap0.txt,
removed the last line and then all was well. Also, every once in a while, I get an error message about a problem with the audio
stream (can't remember what it is off-hand) and I found that putting *AVSRELOAD in the titlex.ini file got rid of the problem.
Would it be possible to get an option to automatically place *AVSRELOAD in the ini file? Right now, I manually edit it in before
firing off the bat file.

Another odd occurrence with favc. I was trying to use avi files from a Danish source. Files with that character 'o with a slash
through it' (Alt+0248 from Character Map) in the filename caused TitleInfo.bat to fail during the avs2avi check (the results
vis-a-vis FourCC, dimensions and frame rate were quite comical). Changing the weird characters to just 'o' in the filename
cured the problem, though.

What I've found lately is trying to process .mkv that has pillars results in totally scrambled video. Seems to work pretty well with 16x9 .mkv sources but now and then I get strange things like frames out of sequence. Weird. That's using HC multi-instance. It's a shame because it's incredibly fast considering it's downsizing to NTSC dvd. Unfortunately to be sure you got a good encode you pretty much have to watch the entire film on a stand-alone using a test burn.

anyone having trouble with wavi.exe when i use FAVC it says wavi encounters a problems and stops working

I recently reinstalled some codecs and now I'm having FAVC audio problems.
When it gets to a line like:
"C:\FAVC\Wavi\wavi.exe" "D:\Temp\Working Folder 0\Title0.avs" - | "C:\FAVC\Aften\aften.exe" -b 256 - "D:\Temp\Working Folder 0\Title0.ac3"
Ffdshow is called to decode the audio, but my default ffdshow audio profile is for 6-channels audio.
As a result all 2-channel input is converted to 5.1 DD. It's the same profile I've always used, but it never did that before.
I blacklisted wavi.exe in ffdshow, but that's not really the right answer.
I have no interest in changing my default ffdshow profile or switching it every time I use FAVC.
Anyone know what I've got set wrong?

I to use Windows7 & I can't get Favc to work correctly either.
I read somewhere that the problem is due 2 Win7 loading encoders that don't work with Favc.
I found a tweak tool that's supposed to allow me to set Windows so that it'll stop using the problematic encoders, but I don't know how to set it.
So to anyone who's gone thru this & made it work, could you please be good enuf to
post a short walkthru, explaining how to configure the tool.

This worked very well for me on XP, but no so much on Win7. I tried 32 and 64 bit flavors.
Not really a big problem though. I'm running 4 machines with XP and only 1 with Win7.
My Win7 machine is my HTPC, so I wasn't intending to do much video work with it anyways.
Anyhow, thanks for a great app. The quality is actually better than ConvertXtoDVD, for me.
And the encoding times and quality are better than DVDFlick.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried manually updating all the components?
I know I'm still using 1.06 because of the problem with AC3 being unnecessarily re-encoded, but there are a lot of pieces from the mpeg encoders to imgburn that have all had many updates since the last FAVC versions.
Edit: Went and did this myself plus some other refinements including a fix for the 1.07 AC3 bug.
Is there interest in me posting this version or just the fix for the bug?

Mostly I've tried updating HCenc. It seems like if I don't use Best Profile DC prec 10 I can't predict results. Also multi-thread enabled seems to be a disaster. It can produce some good results using HC one instance per core but I find if the output DVD will have a high bit rate, I'm better off just using QuEnc 0.75 alpha CBR 8500 one pass multi-threading enabled.. afa speed/quality trade-off. The QuEnc developer popped by a few months back but that's the last I've heard. It seems the 0.75 alpha distributed with AVStoDVD is the newest that can be had.
It's too bad FAVC never got perfected. It had a lot of potential.

As I put in the edit of my last post, I've been updating the components myself.
I tried downloading AVStoDVD 2.4.2 which seems to be the very last version, but QuEnc is still 0.7.2.0 in that. Do you have a link to a newer version?
Edit: I take it back. The file properties say it is 7.2, but it is clearly 7.5. Thanks for the heads up.

Apparently, I'm the only one that still uses FAVC, so here is a gift to you all.
(link at bottom)
It's a custom version of FAVC, based on v1.07 x64, but with component updates and some other tweaks and fixes including working under Windows 7.
If you find any problems, please let me know.
__FAVC v1.07 x64 Dr.M Custom Edition__
-Fixed a bug that caused all AC3 to be re-encoded.
-Code modified to use HC Encoder .25.
-Updated components as available favoring x64 versions.
Downgraded: MediaInfo 0.7.6.1 x64
Updated: Aften 0.0.8, Decomb to 5.2.4, FFMpegSource to 1.21, NicAudio to 2.0.6, VSFilter (DirectVobSub) to 2.41.322, DGIndex to 1.5.8, HC Encoder to .25, ImgBurn to 2.5.8.0, mencoder to 37199, mkisofs to 3.01a22, mkvtoolnix to 6.9.1, Muxman to 0.16.8, twoLAME to 0.3.13, QuEnc to 0.75 alpha.
_Other Notes_
To avoid unnecessary processing or channel changes to your audio, I recommend you keep a second audio filter installed. Use one for normal everyday use and one for encoding.
For example, for normal playback I use ffdshow, which is set to output 5.1 channels, and occasionally other tweaks. If FAVC used it, a stereo source will be modified and output as 5.1 with only 2 channels active.
To fix this I added Wavi.exe to the "Don't use ffdshow in" list (under ffdshow's audio decoder configuration/DirectShow control).
With ffdshow blocked LAV Audio Decoder activates instead. I don't use LAV audio for anything else, and I have it configured with every option disabled and only the output formats checked.
Additionally, to avoid missing subtitles, text subtitles must be in ANSI format to be properly recognized. They can be converted using 'Save As' under Notepad. You may also want to do a search and replace to convert ♪ to <s M/> so you have notes.
Edit: Updated to v1.1. Now includes SubtitleCreator 2.2. (I was under the mistaken impression that 2.2.2 was newer.)
Now for .SRT subtitles <s M/> is still double quarter note but <s m/> is a single half note. I believe 2.3 uses single quarter note instead, but I've never had much success with that version so I didn't use it.

Nah. Still using FAVC and love it.
One issue. With HCenc^n I can not have more than 8 instances of HCenc encoding at the same time. The 9th instance's info exclaims: "ERROR, can't open dbs file, invalid path?"
If the 9th instance starts when one of the preceding ones have already finished there is no issue. Only 8 can run at one time. This is with both custom and original 1.07v
