Hi rack04!
It seems your 17th encode created some heavy troubles to MuxMan. Buffer underflows may be originated by different causes, but usually they occur when using assets with timings or other parameters out of DVD specs.
May I ask which encoder did you adopt ?
Are you available to perform some simple testing to isolate the problem ? I want to see if a new BatchMux.ini - I will prepare it from the one you have posted - without the 17th segment is properly authored...
Cheers,
SD
By the way,
WOW - 24 segments... You are near to the record...
:)
Thanks for the reply. I used HCenc to encode the 24 WMV 1080P Movie Trailers. Should I try running the title.bat for just the video encoding of Title17 and remuxing?
Sir Didymus

No. You should not re-encode anything...
You should:
1. Rename your BarchMux.ini file in BatchMux.old, in order to keep it off line...
2. Take the content of the code section in my previous post, and save it as a new BatchMux.ini file
3. Run title.bat (the one containing just the BatchMux authoring + ISO generation)...
I hope it is clear...
I edit my previous post, so I hope you can see the code section in it...

I tried what you suggested and still the same problem. You mention that 24 segments is alot. Could this be the problem?

I've used more segments in the past and had no problems.
After reading a little about Buffer Underflows my suspicion is that you used QuEnc and there was a bitrate spike which made Muxman unhappy.
You could run the whole process again using QuEnc and lower the maximum bitrate (there's an option for this in the quenc tab) or run the process again and use HC, which tends to have less spikes.
Sir Didymus
16th May 2007, 09:33
Well, in principle the authoring should support up to 99 titles, but I carried out complete tests using up to 12 titles...
From your report, it seems that the authoring wrapper (BatchMux.exe) have prepared a correct BatchMux.mxp script, and it seems that MuxMan is actually trying to perform its job...
I suspect some singularity is present in the video and or audio assets you are working on (before encoding the video source is 1080P right ?)...
In the next hours I will do a simple test in order to use exactely the same BatchMux.in you originally posted, with some different video and audio assets.
If this test work it should demonstrate that the problem is related to the assets (video and or audio)... If it fails it will show that the problem is in the authoring stage...
Stay tuned...
Cheers,
SD

Hi Mr_Odwin! It seems rack04 already sayd he used HCenc to encode his video... and the average bitrate used, looking at the logs, is something around 6.5 ~ 7.0 Mbps for all of the segments...
I agree it is quite high, but it should be easily accepted by the muxing engine...
@rack04
By the way, what is the bitrate (or the size, in bytes) of your audio assets ?
Could you please post a couple of filesizes, let's say of the first two audio files, just to have an idea...

Oops, I should have read more closely!

@rack04
OK. Just completed an experiment, replicating exactely your folder structure, and using the same BatchMux.ini that you have posted...
The video assets I have used have an average bitrate higher than 8 Mbps...
Everything is OK on this side of the sea...
So, it seems to me the problems are not related to the authoring itself (BatchMux or MuxMan) but rely on the video (and audio ?) assets, as it is suggesting Mr_Odwin...
However, I am still curious about what makes someones of your assets so critical.
Are you available/intrested in performing a little further test ?
I am quite convinced that if you try to use the following BatchMux.ini file:
-d "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Output\dvd 0\VIDEO_TS"
-mxp "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Working\Working Folder 0\MuxScript.mxp"
-l "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Working\Working Folder 0\MuxScript.log"
-muxman "C:\Program Files\FAVC\MuxMan"
-v "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Working\Working Folder 0\Title17.m2v"
-a1 "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Working\Working Folder 0\Title17.ac3"
-cellfr "C:\Program Files\FAVC\Working\Working Folder 0\TitleChap17.txt"
You should get again the same error.
If this happen, I would like to get a look at the original assets of your m2v and ac3 title17 files... - under the condition that these trailers have no copyright issues, of course... In this case, please get in touch with me via PM...

SD

Are these the trailers you were converting?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx
There are 25 of them, in various flavours (720p,1080p). If these are the ones you were working with I can download and try to replicate your problem.

...If these are the ones you were working with I can download and try to replicate your problem.
Good spot...
I was browsing the same site just at the same time of your post... :)
By the way, I see all of these clips are encoded at 24fps. What is the conversion procedure adopted within FAVC to perform the framerate conversions (24 --> 29,97 or 24 -->25) ? Is DgPulldown by Neuron2 used someway ?
All the best,
SD
Mr_Odwin
16th May 2007, 12:25
The two that I've downloaded (can't download too much when I'm at work) are 23.976fps, and in that case a pulldown is performed by DGPulldown whether the destination is PAL or NTSC.

With the file I can replicate the problem. It seems that HC really struggles with it! I used FAVC to create a single title DVD and I lowered the maximum bitrate from 9400 (failed)->8000 (failed)->7000 (Success!).
My suggestion would be to either run the entire project again with a lower maximum bitrate, or to re-encode just this particular file (try FAVC with a lower maximum bitrate and set the Disc Capacity as required) and then 'slot' it into the original working folder with the correct file name (Title16.m2v), and finally run the modified title.bat to author.

Serenity... Nice clip... :)
Your findings are very interesting, and not just because you confirmed the problems are independent from the authoring stage...
I just searched (again... sigh...) in the forum the recommendations from Hank315 - HC21 and Neuron2 - DgPulldown on the proper encoding settings to apply for MPEG2 material (GOP size, bitrate...) in order to be DVD compliant after the usage of DgPulldown.
It seems the procedure performed by FAVC have no issues, and the max GOP size values (of 30 fields, as in the log posted by rack04) are also OK.
So, no idea why the encoded clip of the Serenity trailer is so troublesome...

Currently there isn't one. I may incorporate it, but for now your only option is to stop the title.bat file when it starts, kill any encoding that's going on, and then manually edit the title.bat file to reflect the changes you want.

okay, was doing that only and how about allowing MPEG1 encodes for VCD resolutions since as per DVD specifications "MPEG-1 is allowed only in 352x240 or 352x288 res"
Mr_Odwin
19th May 2007, 09:08
VCD resolution is already incorporated (via mpeg2), so I'm not sure what the advantage of allowing mpeg1 would be?

for miniDVD and 1 CD encodes, you can get better quality with MPEG1 since the BR are extremely low.

I've updated to 0.95 and changed the links accordingly in the first post of this thread.
The major addition of note is that FAVC now supports ogm, mkv and mp4 files via DirectShowSource(). AC3 retention is, of course, possible with ogm and mkv files.

does FAVC use avisynth scripts? (i'm assuming it does). if so, whats the default resize filter FAVC uses?
Mr_Odwin
22nd May 2007, 09:21
FAVC does indeed use avisynth scripts. Depending on the resolution specified a different resizer is used.
720x576 = Lanczos
352x576 = Bicubic
352x288 = Bilinear
However, there is an advanced scripting tab where you can turn off FAVC's resizing and use whatever avisynth resizer you want to.

Hi Mr_Odwin - I've just tested FAVC as a new program and I'm loving it. Two options which would make it ideal fro my work flow would be the options to save out just the MPEG files (or MPV/MP2 files) and the ability to type in a target bitrate instead of size. Keep up the good work anyway!
Edit: Actually it looks as though you can set the max bitrate in the encoder options, so I'm assuming this will do what I need? Also, is there a way to donate or any plans for a 'gold' or 'pro' version for donating?

That's really confusing. VirtualdubMod can't open it but Virtualdub can?!? Obviously it made it through the analysis step, which means that avs2avi can open it, but then HC can't.
Are all your codecs/splitters up to date and behaving? That's my only suggestion.
I see that it's a trailer, can I download it from somewhere?
rack04
22nd May 2007, 16:46
Yes it's another trailer. I enjoy tinkering with FAVC and these trailers are good since there easily downloaded. Here (http://images.apple.com/movies/paramount_vantage/a_mighty_heart/a_mighty_heart_h1080p.mov) is the .mov trailer. For the one I tested I used YAMB to mux into .mp4. I'll try running it with the .mov to see if that works.
rack04

Well the .mov makes it to HCenc. I guess the problem has to do with DirectShowSource.

It works fine at my end. In my tray I have two Haali Media Splitters that show, one for audio, the other for video.

So did you try the .mov and .mp4?

Just the mp4 actually. I remuxed it with the most recent build of Yamb (2.0) that I could find and the most recent version of mp4box too.
I found both by browsing around Kurtnoise13's site:

I tried to use the latest YAMB you linked to but I can't get it to remux to MP4.

What I did:
i) Download the 1.6 Installer:
http://yamb.unite-video.com/Yamb-1.6.exe
ii) Download the newest build and extract over the install:
http://kurtnoise.free.fr/Yamb/Yamb-2.0_20070520.zip
iii) Download the latest build of mp4box and extract over the install:
http://kurtnoise.free.fr/index.php?dir=mp4tools/&file=MP4Box-0.4.3_20070518.zip
Then I just opened it up and used the mov file to create an mp4 file. It worked perfectly.

I found out the error I was having with Yamb-2.0_20070520. When you select a temp directory under the advance settings is it won't remux to mp4. I'm running FAVC now on the output and will report back. Thanks for you patience.
EDIT: I still have the same problem. DirectShowSource error in HCenc. Now I'm really confused. It works with QuEnc. Do you think it has anything to do with having CoreAVC installed?

Is there anyway to force closed GOPs (currently using HCEnc) as DVD-Lab prefers them?

Stop the title.bat file when it starts and tweak the ini files in the Working Folder. When you're finished tweaking just restart the title.bat with a double click.

Many thanks. What command would I need to add? Also, can this be made a default option or have you nay plans to add it to the interface?
Also, posted a few bits a page back which may have been overlooked, mainly is there a way to save just the MPEG files (or MPV/MP2 files). I guess don't delete work files does this but its also a little unnecessary to run the author part.
Also, is there a way to donate or any plans for a 'gold' or 'pro' version for donating?

Open a title#.ini, where # is a number and add
*CLOSEDGOPS
That's it!
The no authoring thing has been raised before so I'll add it to my to-do list.
There's no gold or pro version - everything I do goes into the free version that's released. I like free stuff, and use loads of it so FAVC is my way of giving back to the community.

Thanks Mr_Odwin - a fantastic free program and great support too! Just testing my first MKV file... FPS looked odd in the video analysis (0.097) part but I'll see what happens.
Edit: Although it worked great if you could add it to the encoder options it would make things a little easier, and any chance of a shutdown when complete option?
I cant seem to extract the zip no matter what prog I use..
Any chance of just a normal zipped version pls?
