Thanx for the Great Program Mr.Odwin
But as of late when I select to Prevew a Menu it won't display!
It's never done this before, but now all of a sudden no matter which .jpg I select to use as a Menu-Background it displays as a Red X. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/MenuDisplayedasRedX.jpg
Don't know what I could have done to bring this about, but any help will be gretly apreciated.

You still have avisynth installed?

Yeah You know what Mr.Odwin I feel about dumb rite now !
Sorry to waste Your Time & in short "NO" I failed to install AVISYNTH.
You see I had to do a format & install due to a Slave Failing & upon reinstalling My programs I left out the upgraded Avisynth Pkg, I just clean forgot.
But after installing it all is back to Normal.
Thanx for the Heads Up "Good Lookin Out":thanks:

Is it feasible using FAVC to combine both Pal & NTSC video to output a Pal DVD, hope the development is going well, is there anything new in the offing?
Thanks in advance.

That would work absolutely fine.
Development is ongoing but always based on free time so it goes through up and down periods unforunately.

This is a cool program I've had problems with converting 23fps when I converted an NSTC movie in the past. And then watched the movie or TV episodes on my PAL DVD player the video ratio was crap and jerky. Since I have been using this program and converting NSTC TO PAL the movie's have been less jerky. The only thing missing from this great program is that you do not have enough control on making your own DVD menu's if you could create menu's like you can in Nero were you can add audio to your background image that you want, another thing that would be cool to if you could maybe reposition the text in the menu to the right and left and not just in the middle and also to able to change the font size in your menu. Here is a link for the example of a menu I did with Nero. http://img472.imageshack.us/my.php?image=78112450qe6.jpg

I've not been able to get Favc to work since way before My last post for help w/the Menu not displaying correctly but I've been too embarresed to ask for help(again),but please know that I've gone the extra mile this time, searching & trying different methods in an effort to get Favc up & working again.
However I continue to get this pop-up error that states: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/PC%20Pix/FavcError.jpg
So far I've uninstalled & reinstalled NET2.0 & Avisynth / Quicktime / Real Player / Klite & Winamp in an effort to make sure I have all the Codecs that I would require installed & working, but I still can't figure it out:mad:
Now due to some threads I read,I think it might have to do with a damaged Avisynth install, but really I don't know.
Question
Is there a Avisynth Fixxer tool that would give Me a clean slate or is this question even relevant?
My Info;

PS:We have 3 PC's on our LAN here at home & when I tried to cross check Favc on the Dell4550 in the livingroom it exhibited the exact same Issue.
UPDATE
You know I really have no Idea as to what just happened but after weeks of being unable to get Favc to work & just as soon as I posted for help the darn thing started working. Let me add that I did nothing that I had not already done many times before except for 1 thing & that's when I updated The Klite Codec pkg from version 335f to version "345f" & Favc fired rite up.
I'll tell You there must be a problem with that last Klite version(I guess)
Anyhow excuse the post.

For the first time I have used the HC Predictive Quantization Algorithm setting, on 2 seperate files, both were approx 700mb, the other settings were balance. Both files were NTSC to NTSC. I also had 'use directshow source' selected, both files were also checked for sync issues using AviMux. The chapters were set at 3 min, & an srt sub file was used. I think you know what's coming next! Unfortunately both outputs were out of sync, I have never had this problem using 2 pass VBR, so I think there may be a problem with the predictive quant.
Thanks In Advance.

Well, that's odd. I'll look into it more and see if I can reproduce the error.
How far out of sync are we talking? Have you tried the 2-pass VBR method on these files too? Is that output in sync?

Hello, just a thought.
Would it be possible to add an option where you can load your own chapter file? In conjunction with that "Every 5 Min." bit, which is nice, but what if you don't want it to be every 5 minutes? Thus the need for a custom chapters input.
Just a suggestion.

I've been going round & round trying to get Favc up & running again & I would be very-very greatfull if one of You guys could tell Me why it is I can't seem to get around what seems to be a Avisynth.dll issue after yet another clean Install lastnite 9-25-07.
All My files play fine in MPC but won't encode via Favc as it throws up an error that refers to Avisynth or a missing Codec.
Thanx for any consideration or direction

Your going to have to be a little more descriptive than that.
Do you have a screen shot of the error?
Do you have avisynth installed? If so, which version?

Forgot to repost My Info I've NET_2.0 & Avisynth 2.5.7 & FAVC_104 on a FIC AM35(AMD AthlonXP1700) w/1 Gigg of Corsair DDR & WinXPproSPII w/all M$ Updates,AGP Nvidia GEForce3 256mb with the 77.77_winxp2k_english_whql driver packag installed incase it matters.
Rite now I'm not sure of anything that I'm seeing within Favc & My PC, as in either case the issue either disappers & then comes back the following day,or I'll think I've found the problem & fixxed it only to find it's returned the next day.
Favc has in the past worked perfectly for Me & I've made over 30 DVD-5's with 3 movies & a menu on each,"With this PC".
But since My Format & Clean Install I've been getting an error stating that there was either a Codec missing or that the wrong version of Avisynth was installed & no matter how many times I would install Avisynth 2.5.7 it would still show the same error, kinda like the DLL wasnt getting put in properly
(this was after Mr.Odwin reminded Me to put the Avisynth.dll back into My OS)
Below is a ScreenShot of the error I've gotten in reguards to the Avisynth.dll/Codec not being installed, when I know darn well it was & is!
(Avisynth-codec-error) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/Avisynth-codec-error.jpg
And here is a pic of the other error I'm getting (Favc's Config.ini error) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/FavcsConfig.inierror.jpg
It has to do with the Config.ini file not being found when I launch Favc, but I think I've found the reason the Config.ini error popped up, It's because I choose to Pinn the Favc Icon to the start Menu & when Favc is launched that way I see that error everytime, unless of course I spill the entire contents of the Favc package into the My Documents Folder, but an easier fixx is to remove the Pinn to Start Menu Icon & run Favc from a shortcut on My Desktop & the Config.ini error goes away.
So anyway twice now it's turned out to be a mixx up caused by Me & to be honest with You I really don't know if I got it fixxed or not by removing the Pinn to Start Menu selection, but at this point the darn thing is working again & all I can do is runn it & hope that it will continue to work tommorow & that the errors I was seeing were due to Favc being Pinned to the start menu.
Can You beleive that?? I'd appreciate it if someone else who knows of this issue would explain to Me if this could be so.
Sorry for all the clutter but for real I'm having a hard time over here.

First of all I would uninstall any codec packs as they can be nasty. Install ffdshow and the haali media splitter. (Should solve codec errors.)
Delete all of the FAVC installation and use a freshly extracted version.
The pinning to start menu could potentially cause problems I guess (I'd have to look into it further). Try right clicking on the FAVC.exe and create a shortcut, then pin that to the start menu.
Would it be possible to add an option where you can load your own chapter file? In conjunction with that "Every 5 Min." bit, which is nice, but what if you don't want it to be every 5 minutes? Thus the need for a custom chapters input.
You can use your own chapter files by manually replacing the ones that FAVC generates. This is made easier by using the "Don't start batch file" option on the advanced scripting tab. The chapter files are TitleChap0.txt, TitleChap1.txt, etc.

Thank You for the response Mr.Odwin & Merlin777;
As for the Codec Pk's I too had read that they can be nasty & cause issues within XP,but I was of the impression that the Klite codec pack was cool.
However I will follow Your instructions promptly.
Thanx Again.

Do the video and audio remain in sync throughout?
MR Nice
29th September 2007, 15:04
Hi, Yes video and audio do remain insync throughout. Its just the frame rate is slow moving converting 29.97fps to pal. When I converted to Avi nstc 23.976fps to pal 25fps the frame movement was near prefect. Could it have anything to do with not having all the avisynth plugins? if so I don't know how to add them.

If the video and audio remain in sync then I'm not sure what you mean by slow moving framerate.

When I used your program to convert an avi file that was nstc 29.97 to pal. After then conversion finished and I played the dvd the picture is jerky and slow meaning when people was walking they were walking slow. Hope this helps

On my last 3 encodes, no Video TS Bup File has been produced, & the Video TS Ifo File has had a value of 0kb. I deleted the folder containing FAVC & cleaned the the reg before extracting to a new folder, but to no avail, the outcome was the same. The files were Xvid both Pal & NTSC, I tried both encoders on normal encoding settings. Any Ideas?

Try lowering the maximum bitrate (to 7000?). Muxman can be sensitive to spikes.

Thanks, worked fine. Does this mean most authoring problems, or at least many of them, can be put down to a bitrate spike effecting Muxman, & can be fixed by simply lowering the bitrate?
Cheers!

Hi wg.
No, I would say definitely not always.
While I fully agree with the statement and the recommendation of Mr_Odwin, the step you are making is not supported by the logic or the experience.
If you are using a solid authoring sw (within FAVC the authoring engine is MuxMan, which is sensitive, but very solid, IMHO), then most part of the authoring problems depend on oddities in the source assets - i.e. video, audio, subs. Sometime these oddities are related only to the video asset(s), but not always. Sometimes the inconsistencies of the video asset(s), when present, are related only to bitrate spikes, but not always...
Cheers,
SD

If the 'Volume Normalize' checkbox is selected on the FAVC audio options, is this the same as selecting the 'Normalize' option in the ffdshow volume options dialogue page(Does it just enable this option). I believe this can be used as a boost for low volume ac3 files.

I expect it would be equivalent. But FAVC uses the Normalize() command in the avisynth script.

I just downloaded FAVC to give it a try. I'm comparing against DVD Flick, SVCD2DVD, The FilmMachine, etc. I don't want to edit AVISynth scripts any more to accomplish simple tasks.
So far, I can't use it at all. All the videos I attempt to import give me an error and FAVC recommends I use AVISynth to frameserve it into the program. I can do that, but why? With all the collections of freeware bundled with the program, can't it handle that itself?
I capture HDTV programs that are typically 720p or 1080i MPEG2 files saved in a .MPG container. Other programs that only support .AVI files can read these fine - I just need to force the extension issue. FAVC cannot.
I would prefer to use something that incorporates QUEnc, HC Enc or CCE. Any would be better than FFMPEG, which seems to be more common.
Any chance of modifying FAVC to support more imported formats?

Sorry if this seems like a very stupid question but I cannot get FAVC to recognise my install of avisynth 2.58. I get the below error and honestly would appreaciate any help that you may offer.
"FAVC is Unable to process the following file

Generally this problem occures when the correct version of AVIsynth is not installed or the cooresponding codec is not installed."
Im trying to convert a MKV file to dvd format. The file plays fine in windows media player. What codec might it be talking about?

Avisynth 2.58 is very unstable at the moment. You should only use 2.57, then you should not have a problem with MKV file in FAVC.

I'm new to playing around with AviSynth but looking at the FAVC produced scripts it would seem that idx/sub hard subbing could be supported with a VobSub() call instead of TextSub(). Any chance of adding idx/sub subtitle support to FAVC? I know I can check
"don't run the batch file" but I'm not quite sure where I should insert the VobSub() function calls, esp. with multiple input files. (Plus it would be cooler to just put a check mark next to idx/sub)

Hi
You must be having a great time with your 1-year old toddler.First time I used FAVC and searched the forum for a guide because I need to write a AviSynth to open the .mkv files as this is the suggested step in the error message. It said it couldn't locate mkvext.ddl and then the charset.dll also. It suggusted that I either frameserve with AviSynth on VirtualDubMod ( I haven't any success ) or write a script for the .mkv to use the FAVC or re-install. It also said that I may not have the correct codev.
My Avisynth is version 2.5.7 and FAVC is a FAVC.exe file version 4.45.3.0. I don't want to give up on .mkv files. BTW the files names are a bit long like 10.19.07.Ratatouili.2007.REPACK.......
Thanks

I have taken your advise to uninstall the K-lite Codec Pack, Haail Splitter, the FAVC_104 and the ffshow. Then I reinstall everything back from the updated links from VideoHelp.com except for the Codec. I didn't get any error message regarding wrong codec etc. however I got a JITDebugging error message from you. It said that the config.ini could not be found in the path of E:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Documents\........
How do I put those command lines in to make it work. I have very little experience with using command as indicated. Thanks
