If I convert an NTSC file to Pal using FAVC & I want to add a subtitle, does this have to already be Pal, or will FAVC also convert the NTSC subtitle to Pal(I'm thinking how would it know), does it automatically assume the sub is the same format as the file & convert both?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a need I would avoid framerate conversions.
When encoding avi=>dvd I stay with whatever it is. Then rely on the DVD player to convert during playback.

Favc will convert the subs to the correct(pal) timing, never had a single problem with framerate conversion in FAVC.

I've been on holiday for the last week. My internet access is still restricted (at in-laws). I'll try to address all concerns on my return to normality.

im trying to use FAVC and I am getting a mkvmerge.exe: unable to lovate libiconv.dll.

i tried reinstalling avisynth 2.58a and that file is nowhere to be found.

Any idea what I can do to fix this?

Thanks

I ran into a similar problem, and I think this may be the reason some people are having trouble with .mkv files. The mkv programs (mkvextract and mkvmerge) require dlls that aren't included with FAVC (at least on the x64 self extracting version, not sure about the others). The problem is easily solved though, by downloading and installing mkvtoolnix, and copying the dlls and mkvextract.exe and mkvmerge.exe files to the MKVtoolnix directory in the FAVC directory. You probably do not need to copy the .exe files, I did it anyway.

Could i just ask is there any possibility that a future version
will be able to run multiple instances of hc encoder
on the same file now that the new 0.22 version
has multiprocessor support.

can i also say keep up the good work, great program

Edit: should have mentioned that it was on 2pass variable i was hoping for multiple instances

This will almost certainly happen. I'm really struggling for development time at the moment, but incorporating the new version of HC is pretty much top of my list.

I've got a question: Can FAVC do MKV's with subs and most importantly: a DTS audio-track inside (and keeping the DTS intact/unchanged) ?

I believe Favc only does ac3 and mp2 at the moment, as far as MKV's with subs I cant help ya there cause I dont use MKV sources.

Mr_Odwin
30th November 2007, 17:24
FAVC would not retain the DTS audio-track, and it wouldn't extract the subs either.

I would like to know if there is a Language Selection Option within Favc that will allow Me to select between 2 languages within a MultiLingual avi.
I have a large avi file that's in Russian(#1) & English(#2) The bad thing is when I run it thru Favc it defaults to lang#1.Rus.
I tried to remove the Rus lang file/files by editing the avi file with a really cool tool named "SolveigMM AVI Trimmer" http://www.solveigmm.com/?Products&id=VideoSplitter
It worked great on all My other avi files but when I run My MultiLingual avi file thru AVI Trimmer the resulting product is a output file that won't play in MPC & GSpot shows that it has a Corrupt AVI Header. Mind You the Original avi file don't have a Corrupt AVI Header & MPC as well as Favc has no problems playing or processing it what-so-ever!

Excuse My Noobness & if I left anything out let Me know & I'll promptly add it.

Maybe you should try AVI-Mux GUI. It will let you pick the audio you want and can save it as avi. Just add the avi file into AVI-Mux GUI and double click it and it will show your video and audio streams. Pick your video and the audio stream(make sure to uncheck the audio you dont want) and hit start. You also might want to click the settings button to make sure it's set for avi and maybe uncheck the split. Then you should be able to run it through FAVC.

@Mr_Odwin,

First I want to thank you for your great application. 2 thumbs up!
I'm still waiting for your next release which support HCEnc 0.22
with multiprocessor support since 2 core cpu is getting common
in the market today :)

I'm also waiting for the batch support for multi DVD creation.

Thank you.

I think the ffmpegsource.dll bundled in the latest 1.05 Exe package cause problem.
I have to replace it with un-rar the complete ffmpegsource.rar to the "\FAVC\Avisynth Plugins" to solve the problem. :)

What sort of problem did you hit?

My source is .avi (xvid).

While the diagnostic phase, 250 frames, the FAVC is failed to run,
there was pop-up windows tell me that the AVISynth is not the latest version... blabla....

But when I looked the working folder and try to play .avs with
MPC, I can find the problem is the ffmpegsource in the line #3,
even the plugin is not used (my source is .avi files),
but if the plugin is failed to be loaded, so the script is failed to
go to next line.

I solve this problem with extracting the ffmpegsource.rar package,
complete with the additional .dll files to the "\Windows\system"
folder and "\FAVC\Avisynth Plugins" folder.

I'm not sure why that happens. I've included a Kurtnoise13 build of FFMpegSource in FAVC that doesn't need the dlls (statically linked).
I'll investigate further if there are more reports of this happening.

I did a quick search of my comp for FFMpegSource.dll and I already had in my windows/system32 folder. That could be why I'm not having any problems with the new version of FAVC.

Did some more testing with 105 and 104 and I'm noticing with 105 (with hc built in or multicore of 2) there is alot flickering with the samples in predictive quantization mode. Where as in 104 there is no flickering in the samples in predictive quantization . 105 is fine with constant quantization and 2 pass variable bitrate no flickering. So I think there is a with problem is the predictive quantization in 105.

I just downgrade to 1.04 since it was not able to finish the encoding job, the source are 2 avi files (disc1 and disc2 xvid) the first avi finished but the second avi somehow the job was stopped at 75%.

I've already retried the job, but the result was the same. :(

I cannot monitor the exact process, since I just leave the job
at night and see the working dir at the morning. :(

Hi, I been using favc for sometime and it's been great until now. I have a problem it converts the avi to dvd and makes the video_ts files, Video_ts dvd moive info 0kb, vts_01_1, vts_01_2, vts_01_3, vts_01_4, but when I try to check the convertion using nero showtime, or vlc player like I always have and they worked. I now get a message saying. Sorry the folder you have selected does not contain a valid dvd-video, svcd, or vcd structure. Please use the 'Media Function to browse and play the files from this folder. I don't know if there should be another video_ts folder or not. I tried old versions of favc and new and still get the same problem, the program is great and its a shame.

Change the DVD destination and temporary files folder to existing folders you have manually created.
My first attempts shows the same behaviour as you described.
After changing the pathes all went well.:p

Taurus I tried your theory but still I get the same message not a valid dvd I think it may have something to do with ffdshow video decoder or maybe the ffdshow audio. If not that then there should be three VIDEO_TS DVD MOVIE FOLDERS As well as the 4 vst_01_4 files..

Sorry if I have missed any of these questions in my searches, but...
I'm using 1.04
I find that when I select HC and convert 4:3 Pal AVI to NTSC DVD with overscan protection on or off, I end up with large borders above and below the image. Looks a lot like letterboxing. Also, though I have the encoding set to Quality, it encodes quite rapidly (of course, I'm used to Tmpgenc... :) I believe QUEnc has the same problem, except for the speed. I haven't noticed this with 16:9 video in the past.

I'm thinking the HC encoder isn't reponding properly to the batch file that's being created- is this possible?

Also, I've had (and I don't remember when, at the moment) a complete 16:9 conversion work, but the ifo file is 0 bytes, so nothing recognizes it as a DVD- I think I saw a solution for this somewhere, but I can't remember where...

All in all, a great program, otherwise- Thanks for the enormous effort!

Thats the same problem I keep getting there seems to be missing VIDEO_TS MOVIE files there should be three but there is only one with the other vts_01_1, vts_01_2, vst_01_3, vst_01_4 files. I know this because I used another program and it had all the correct files at the end of the convertion only the end result when using this program is not as good quality like your program produces.

There is only one missing file: VIDEO_TS.BUP. It's a copy of VIDEO_TS.IFO. But VIDEO_TS.IFO is empty, and that's abnormal too. Trying to burn that DVD will certainly fail or produce a coaster.

Xproject187
3rd January 2008, 11:31
Yeah I saw that the VIDEO_TS.IFO file was 0KB in size at first glance & also via IfoEdit while I was trying to create My own BUP File. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/PC%20Pix/EmptyVIDEO_TSIFOFile.jpg
The good thing is I allways burn My DVDs to Slave disc first as a sort of test or in Imgburns Test mode to ensure that I don't produce a coaster & of course ImgBurn won't even start the Burn with this set of files since it finds a problem.
Thanx for the positive input/feedback .
