Do you have Must have Avisynth v2.57a, or later, installed?
You must also have the NET framework Version 2 installed?
(re-installed all the of the programs needed for FAVC) What programs have you installed for Favc? Favc has all the programs it needs already in the installation process, the only other software you need is Net Framework 2.0. you might need some codecs, but, first download a program called avicodec run it then select the avi you are trying to convert it willl tell you information about the avi, and it will also tell you what video and audio codecs you need for avi file. Also do you have AC-3 audio codec installed? if not you will need that, and maybe Matroska-Pack-Full_1.1.2. Hope this helps.

i'm having trouble getting FAVC and AVI2ISO working, after extending research i noticed that there loading in x64 mode, i'm using windows x64 pro,

i think a lot of my problems are related to the fact that the executables are loading in 64 bit mode, when in fact they should be loading in 32Bit mode, does anybody know how to force a executable to load inside WoW64 (windows emulator), as i feel this will resolve the problems, because some of the .dll's are not 64 bit compliant, and i think there could be some problems relating to .dotnet framework aswell,

thanks,

Thor263

If anyone is having a problem encoding AVIs with AC3 audio where the average bitrate
ends up to be much, much lower than it should be (for my example encode it ended up to be 32
-- as low as it can go -- yikes!), there seems to be a problem with the MediaInfo.dll
(version 0.7.5.7) included in the FAVC package. I was able to load up the FAVC source
into a debugger this weekend and discovered that MediaInfo would sometimes return a
huge bogus bitrate for the AC3 -- which then in turn throws off the calculation for
average bitrate. When I replaced the MediaInfo.dll with the newest version (0.7.7.0),
the AC3 bitrate was correctly reported. The newest dll can be downloaded from
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net and can be copied into the MediaInfo folder in FAVC.

Hope this helps.

Since Thor263 posted the above, all my problems with FAVC are gone. Getting great results for 4/5 hours playing time with Hcenc, predictive Q. and the Notch matrix.

Thanks Thor263 for the advise and Mr_Odwin for the program.

I mean I have .net framework and avisynth installed. Please forgive my inaccurate terms, I am a newbie at this.

well seems to me windows is having trouble accessing the file, access denied says it all really,

can you open the bat file in notepad?

other then that i can't think of any reason, the fact that access denied is showing, tells me either it's denied, or something thinks it's denied,

as for the "String maybeFullPath" perhaps there's too many characters in the path, or strange characters in the path,

apart from that i can't think of anything, perhaps try the same program on another machine, prefably a pc you haven't setup, just to see if it's something you may have caused when setting your PC up,

just a note, your not using x64 windows are you, as this requires FAVC x64 bit edition,

also C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Working Folder 29\TitleInfo.bat does seem unnecessarily too long, a short working path does eliminate path problems, say C:\FAVCWorkFolder\

sorry i couldn't be of more help, >net framework doesn't really give good clue shrouding errors,

Hi Mr. Odwin:

I'm tryng to see if its posible to do some batch encoding adding this lines to the title.bat in working folder 0, after setting two DVD and aborting the encode.

Echo *********************************************************
Cd c:\VIDEO_OUTPUT\Working Folder 1
start Title1.bat

Where c:\VIDEO_OUTPUT is the FAVC "temporary files folder", edited to change the sintaxis,
that was wrong, as you may guess I'm not very good this.
Up to now I just called this bat from another place in C and it's working as supossed.

I just want to tell you, Ąthanks a million! and encourage to keep on working on this great project. Sometimes We don't worry about the hard work, the problems and sufferings that originate from a project like this one. Very few occasions we worry about saying you thanks for your work, thanks to spaces like these we keep on being free without importing if really we are.

I so glad winxp updates will not be obsolete till 2014:p. I'll leave gettting vista for a while to many programs don't work with it. The down said is that every new tower, laptop you buy will have vista on it not winxp, so there's no choice if your buying a pc from a shop but, If you build your own pc just make sure it's powerful enuff for xp and vista so you have a choice to put either operating system on,:) because they stopped putting winxp on the machine from this year. Sorry I cannot help you with your q?

Thanks for the update Mr Odwin, much appreciated. I have used FAVC with great success using Windows XP, I have now added the latest Ubuntu (Hardy) to my box(Dual-Boot) & was wondering if FAVC would work well in this system using 'Wine', has anyone tried this?. I have tried DeVeDe on the Ubuntu system but I believe it is only cabable of CBR 1 pass, & I was not impressed with the quality.

Thanks in advance.

I have been having a problem with the new version 1.07.

I have it set in the audio settings to retain the AC3 sound. (Retain if present)

When I start to create the DVD the software uses mkvextract to extract the AC3 file. After the video is encoded the software always seems to reencode the AC3 file to 2 channel.

If I use version 1.06 then the multichannel AC3 soundtrack is retained.

Hopefully someone can help me with this as some DVD's do not complete properly when using version 1.06.

Thanks in advance..

This the quickest avi converter around and also theres hardly any quilty loss to the video when you do a batch of avis. The only things that missing for me is more control of the menu creation, it would be good if you could add motion menus, chapters. Lastly only negative thing for me with this program is and alot of other converters is NSTC 23.976, 29 frames to PAL 25 frames is a little jerky. There is only one program out there that convert Nstc to pal perfect with no jerkyness in the video but the program taking two days to convert a batch of 4 avis were as Favc takes a lot less. Mr Odwin Favc is a great program dispite me little negative comments, its helped me a lot with converting stuff fast. I just hope when you become less sleepy you will return with a new Favc. Peace

Unfortunately this is not a limitation of FAVC but of the underlying authoring middleware (there is one program, "BatchMux", which generates the project scripts for MuxMan - the authoring engine of FAVC).

For the moment it is not possible to overcome the limitation you see. I planned to extend BatchMux in order to enable the production of more complex and general menues, but I have to say honestly that I don't see a good balance between the implementation difficultes and the real benefits for the average users... In other terms I had no strong motivations in the last months to work on these improvements.... However (just concerning BatchMux) the feature is still in the todo list... Another thing, then, would be the extension of FAVC in order to implement the feature... Here only Mr Odwin can comment about his willingness to further extend and improve FAVC...

SD

Really, That's what I find to be the problem with all in one converters, there menu generators are shat. Convertx's is really good but there video quality is poop. I keep trying to tell them that 2pass is better than 1 pass for vbr but they don't listen (they use ffmpeg) and that HC is better. If convertx just used HC as there mpeg2 encoder than everything would be peachy. As an average user I find the need to have more 8 titles in my menus. If its not worth the time there's nothing I could say but oh well. Sir didymus you wrote batchmux? Also I think there's a problem with the audio if I click retain ac3 if possible, the output has no audio. If I click encode as usual the audio is there. The source is mp3 audio..

If you click encode and the audio is there, it means that batchmux is working... :)

If the audio is mp3 it should be reencoded always before the authoring... Here (most probably) it is the process deciding not to reencode your mp3 audio which is behaving incorrectly... I mean, this is a control activity performed by FAVC...

Sorry but I can not help much more than this: you should ask to Mr. Odwin to fix this issue...

Hi thanks for FAVC, but I have one problem.

I use avisynth script, but I can't set the aspect ratio in FAVC 1.07 so my question. How can I set aspect ratio at 16:9 (maybe filter in avisynth?)

Thanks for help...

Hi there folks,

I'm trying to encode PAL (avi container) source material into MPEG-2, converting to NTSC in the process. So I select NTSC in the application and the output ends up being 25.0 fps. Just in case the setting references SOURCE material (I can't see why that would make sense), I changed the setting to PAL. Still 25.0 fps output. Also, the program insists on converting the embedded 2-channel 192kbps AC3 audio, when that shouldn't be necessary. I tell the program to "Retain" the AC3 if possible. Clearly it must think it's not possible.

I've now duplicated the behavior on two computers of mine, one running Vista Business, the other XP Home, both 32-bit with avisynth 2.5.8 RC2. On both computers, DGPullDown seems to run for several seconds, if that's any help (I think Donald Graft's filter would be doing the PAL->NTSC conversion).

Can anybody tell me how I can get 29.97fps (I think I want interlaced too) material from my PAL source using FAVC? Ultimately I intend to use Nero Vision 4 or 5 for the DVD authoring, taking FAVC's output and dropping it into Nero. Naturally, it's important that my output not be transcoded by Nero Vision. My basic goal in using FAVC is to avoid Nero Vision's rather low quality MPEG-2 encoder. The other major goal is simplicity, which is what has attracted me to FAVC.

Thank you folks!

I noticed that 1.07 is re-encoding the 5.1 DD tracks into DD 2 ch.

I did the same file with 1.06 and 1.07... 1.06 keeps the 5.1 DD but 1.07 re-encodes it to 2ch DD

It's extracts the audio at the begining like norm but after the video encoding it does the aften convert to 2 ch

Anybody know where I can find 1.06?

Edit: I found 1.06 at MajorGeeks.com. It seems to leave the AC3 in-tact without transcoding. Oddly enough, the resulting video files still play at 25.0 fps in my video players on my computer, but they also play just fine in my NTSC DVD players. Maybe there's nothing wrong with FAVC and something wrong with my interpretation of its output. Or maybe my DVD players handle PAL. I'll look into this.

First time using FAVC it encoded a beautiful dvd from an .mkv file but it didn't detect and add the subtitles. Does FAVC only support certain types of subs?

Here's the info from Media Player Classic:

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 704x480 (853:480) 23.98fps [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch [Audio]
Subtitle: Advanced SubStation Alpha [Subtitle]

Hi EpheMeroN
I dont know if FAVC can handle ssa subs. (No files for testing on my side.)
Maybe demuxing the subs beforehand and changing to txt subs will do it.
Of course you have to manually integrate them via FAVC\DVD Options\Subtitle Files.
Are this *.ssa or *.ass Subs?

Not sure. How can I manually demux the subs to find out? This is one of the first times I've dealt with the MKV container.

Okay. I just used this MKVExtractGUI program to take out the sub file. It has a *.ass extension.

FAVC only accepts .SRT subs though.

The latest release of FAVC is re-encoding the AC3 audio in my .mkv file even when I am telling FAVC to keep/use original AC3 instead of re-encoding it.

Also, for what it's worth, the re-encoded AC3 audio has shifted to the L channel terribly.

Hello, I've been using FAVC for a few months now with great success. It's the best tool of its kind I've ever used, but I haven't been able to use it for the past few days. I tried encoding an avi file to DVD, and I got an error message. I think the error message said something about .NET framework, but I can't be sure. Since then, I've tried converting files I've converted successfully before, and I get this message:

If it helps:
- I installed .NET framework 3.5 today, in hopes of fixing this. It didn't work.
- I updated to Windows XP SP3 today also.
- I re-downloaded AviSynth from the FAVC page.
- I'm using FAVC 1.07 32-bit (running 32-bit OS).
- I tried using FAVC 1.06 and also got a .NET framework error.

Any help or suggestions anyone can offer me would be greatly appreciated. I love using FAVC, but I just can't figure out what to do! Thanks.

I just discovered your software. I've been a long time user of Avi2Dvd and love it but it's been a long time between updates.

I'm really impressed with some of your features: preserving ac3 tracks, advanced scripting, multiple titles, predictive OPV: all very nice.

I know it's been asked, but I'd love to see CCE support as well.
Also, is there any reason Aften & QuEnc have been chosen as ac3 encoders while leaving out BeSweet (though I do prefer Soft Encode, but that seems to be falling out of use)?

Edit: Yikes, I forgot how slooow HCenc can be on it's best settings.

JohnMK: Just an off-the-top-of-my-head thought, but if your source was 25fps, FAVC would have used 25 to 29.97 pulldown to make it DVD compliant.

The video remains at the same speed as it originally was, but the DVD hardware telecines on the fly during playback to 29.97 in the same manner 23.976 video is telecined.
A PC would ignore the pulldown flags and progressively play back at 25fps.

Edit: Yup there is a bug in 1.07.
My project was set to keep the ac3 audio.
The track was AC3 2.0 192kps audio.
The script window says "Found PCM audio: 6 channels, 48000 Hz, 16bits, 5550.544708 seconds...."
For whatever reason it's misidentifying AC3 audio as "Microsoft WAVE Signed 16-bit little-endian 48000 Hz 5.1-channel, and reencoding to AC3.

Grab v1.06 until it's fixed. ( http://download.videohelp.com/favc/Old_Version/ )

Yeah, and I'm still plugin' on an old Athlon 32bit O/C'd to 3400+ speeds. I really need to get off my lazy ass and build a new system.
But comparatively CCE seems to be 2-3x faster. I don't care what CPU you have, that's nothing to sneeze at.

I've just discovered FAVC. I'm getting this exception, regardless of settings I use or what I use for input. It occurs with either encoder, both mkv and avi files, etc. I'm running XP x64, and both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of FAVC throw the exception. I have AviSynth 2.57 and .NET 2.0 SP1 installed.

Edit: replacing MediaInfo.dll with version 0.7.7.5 fixed the problem. Corrupted download, I guess?

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Another problem. I'm trying to burn mkv files with softsubs in ass format. I demuxed the subs and converted them to srt with Subtitle Workshop, and everything seemed to go fine but there's no sign of the subs on the DVD.

All of the input files exist. You can see MuxMan finds the sup files. Why aren't the subs ending up on the DVD?

Thanks
