Reduce the maximum bitrate to 8000, or lower if there are still problems.

In the working folder there will be a file called MuxScript.log. Are any errors or issues reported in there?
I've been unable to find this MuxScript.log since My install of Favc is/was set to delete the working files (My Bad)
I'll have to change that setting & run it again just to get to the log,but prior to doing so I'll Reduce the maximum bitrate to 8000 as You instructed. But to be honest with You I think it default's at 8000

Even though I received No errors during the Favc process, I did a Google on the No useable audio found for PGC & I was wondering if the issue I'm seeing has something to do with the pcthreadGC2.dll "again ?"
Thank You very much for Your time & support.

Reduce the maximum bitrate to 8000, or lower if there are still problems. I did lowering the birtrate but the result was still the same. My theory is it could be something else I have installed that could be clashing with favc. I do use d2mp which coverts avi to dvd but I dont think it would clash with favc because d2mp and favc were both working fine until now, also I have a few versions of fame network installed but some are just dates.

I see the problem. FAVC has tried to set a chapter point after the end of the third file and Muxman is rejecting it.

Can you give me a screenshot of gspot/mediainfo with this file?

Allways glad to receive Your help, heres the jpg of the 3rd avi.

PS:
Overnight I ran Favc again & this time I tried changing alot of the settings as per instructions I'd found/read in this very thread(pg.22-26) I selected the HC Encoder instead of QuEnc Encoder & then I replaced the pthreadGC2.dll & I lowered the Bitrate to 7000 as well as switching the Audio settings to
'Encode as Usual". I switched the AC3 Encoder to QuEnc rather than Aften & I even disabled the Pulldown.

Woke up this morning & still no joy, but I do have that Muxscript log if You need it?.

Xproject187, do you have AC3Filter audio codec installed on your pc? favc is working for me it just did not like the avi file I wanted to convert so I tried another avi and it woked fine the menu come on and the dvd worked. The avi file you are trying to convert to dvd, try a program called svcd2dvd the demo is free and it lets you convert your avi to dvd at least by trying it you can see if the file will convert. My theory on favc is it just did not like the avi. I checked the conversion that I did with the avi file favc did not like, it would play the video files when I selected one of them using nero or vlc player it just would not create the menu or the other 3 Video_ts files and I still don't know why.

The pic indicates that the file is 1:40:06 long and FAVC is trying to put a chapter point at 1:40:00. This shouldn't be a problem, unless somehow the time of the m2v doesn't match.

The pic indicates that the file is 1:40:06 long and FAVC is trying to put a chapter point at 1:40:00. This shouldn't be a problem, unless somehow the time of the m2v doesn't match.
Can you now please post a screenshot of the generated title2.m2v in gspot? Thanks in advance.

After 5 attemps to process the 3-avi's I had 5 working folders @ 4.GB each & once I read Your last post I'd decided to throw em all out just yesterday in apprehension of a work-around (My Bad). So I'll need to process em again & that will take another 4 hours so please bare with Me."Sorry Bout That !"
PS:Mr_Odwin this might be pertinent
Even though it's never caused a problem before,I use a tool named SolveigMM Video Splitter http://www.solveigmm.com/?Products&id=VideoSplitter
it allows Me to cut off the ending credits & then I check for sync issues with AVIMux_GUI http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/divx__ac3.htm
I'll post a screenshot of the generated title2.m2v in gspot ASAP!

That may indeed be pertinent. If somehow this means an incorrect length is reported to FAVC, it could possibly try to assign chapters to a time that doesn't exist. This would then cause Muxman to error out when the generated m2v doesn't have the same length.

You can use Virtualdub to cut off end credits from avi files. Just select and cut the frames you don't want then use Direct Stream copy as the video compression, source audio as the audio and save as a new avi.

Mr_Odwin I apoligize for taking so much of Your time with yet another error brought about by Myself, but You see because I've used the same tools & steps to make so many other compilations "without issue" I didn't think it could have been anything I had done. However once You said that Favc was reporting a file as one size & I knew I'd cut it down, thats when it rung a bell. So I'll start from scratch but this time I'll run Favc without cutting the avi's.
Thanx for the walk-thru of Virtualdub

Well of course needless to say it worked! :) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/Xproject187/PC%20Pix/VIDEO_TSRedone.jpg
Yep all 3 avi files untouched in any way were processed by Favc without a problem. But I do find it kinda bothersome that after so many compilations in wich I've used exactly the same steps & tools failed to produce this issue even once in the past, but then again I guess this could be considered "that once" huh? None the less I owe You Thanx Mr.Odwin for helping Me thru Yet another issue brought about by Myself!

I don't think this is a flaw in FAVC but in case anyone runs into it, I thought I'd mention something I experienced. I had some divx5 .avi files to convert to dvd. 3 files with the only difference being that one had .mp3 audio instead of ac3. The one with the .mp3 audio wanted to process at around 12 fps per instance of QuEnc on my dual core machine when the normal speed is about 50+ per QuEnc instance.

I tried using HC instead, same slow performance. Just for chuckles I uninstalled the divx codec on my Vista machine, and bingo!! 50+ fps per QuEnc instance like usual. Strange!!! The same thing happened when I backed down to FAVC 1.04 so something was weird with the divx codec that didn't like .mp3 audio being there!

The other weird thing was that DVD Flick worked normally. Maybe flick uses its own decoding or something. Just FYI if anyone runs into slow processing on divx5 sources.

FAVC 1.06 released - info and links in first post.

What changes have been made to this new version Favc?
in the future will there be any chance of beening able to play around with the menu creation a bit more like change the font size or the colour of the font when you place your own background picture in?

Hi! thanks for the new version.

I have a question about DGPulldown in FAVC. When converting a long file to dvd FAVC spends a lot of time on that step, there's a option not to run it. In which circumstances should i not enable it?

from what i read on this page:
http://neuron2.net/dgpulldown/dgpulldown.html

when converting from pal to pal it isnt needed, should i disable it? so far i never had any playback problems with leaving it enabled.

Most of my encodes are from pal to pal.

Thanks

Can someone remind me what the different HC modes do - so the difference between constant quant and predictive in terms of function, quality and speed? If I use constant, what kind of value do I need to use?

For PAL to PAL pulldown shouldn't be used. FAVC should determine that it is not needed. In other cases it will save bitrate. Don't enable it if you prefer frame blending to pulldown when doing framerate conversions.

Thanks Mr Odwin

1. What kind of quant value should I be using? Whats the difference between say 1 and 4?

2. You say in 1.06 that you improved HC Predictive Quantization Algorithm - does this mean sizing is now more accurate?

Mr Odwin,
I am trying to use for the first time this software, but every moment I try to make a conversion, this errors happens:

Generally this problem occurs when the correct version of Avisynth (v.256a or greater)...

I have downloaded and installed this version of Avysinth. I saw that 'magicclue' had the same problem, and you said it might be beacuse of foreing language caracthers, bbut it's not the case here. I tried 5 videos, and all of them had the same problem.
I am from Brazil, and my windows is Brazilian, but there are no foreign caracthers at the files.

Thanks in advance.

Not currently. But you can alter all the generated files of FAVC yourself to do this. Just read up on the cli of Batchmux and look at the Batchmux inis generated by FAVC to get an idea on how to do it.

I hate to ask such a stupid question but I just encoded an avi to dvd using favc with quenc. It came out horrible so I want to look at the log file but I don't see one. I looked in the output folder as I selected to not delete the finished files. I looked in the quenc folder where favc.exe resides. I looked in application data in documents and settings. Nothing. Where are the logs??

Mr_Odwin
23rd January 2008, 18:12
There is no log file. The title.bat file shows the exact process gone through to create the dvd folder.

Hi all...
I am a Big Fan of FAVC. Its a Great Piece of Software.
One thing i think missing is that when i select vcd resolution and after that when i select subtitles in DVD options tab, it defaults back to Full D1 resolution. The Half D1 resolution and VCD resolution remains greyed out. It would be Great if Mr.Odwin can allow the subtitles in VCD resolution and Half d1 resolution in the next version.Thanx in Advance....

Mr_Odwin
30th January 2008, 14:50
Manually time it, or edit the title.bat batch file yourself to create some sort of timestamp.

MilesAhead
30th January 2008, 18:39
I'd like to request an enhancement for the Temporary Files Folder and Destination DVD Folder. If the folder name is . (dot or some other wildcard symbol.. perhaps '*') then create the folders inside the folder containing the source file(s).

If I do several conversions then later I have to preview the flicks or look through the temp files to remember which one is which. Creating the output folders in the source folder would be a nice alternative. (I know I could set it manually but using a wildcard I could just leave the setting as the default.)

I never had problems with codecs. I can't figure out what is going on.

Just to let you know FAVC worked fully with all files (playable DVD). When I first wanted to convert my video file I chose not to use ImgBurn because I didn't have any disks at the time. I chose to use ImgBurn this time and it burnt to disk and all worked fine.

I just tried to convert another video, same specifications again (720p.hdtv.x264 1.7gb .mkv video file), now this time FAVC did not generate a full DVD again.

Does anyone have any explanation for this? Quite frustrating as it takes around 3-4 hours to convert so it's not something I can quickly retry.

Mr_Odwin
8th February 2008, 22:43
Try reducing the maximum bitrate to something conservative like 7000, or even lower.

bmnot
9th February 2008, 07:51
I choose 'Quality' in the HC options 'optimized presents'.
Time isn't an issue. Quality over anything in my books. What will lowering the maximum bit-rate from 8000 to 7000 do and will it be noticeable? Also I crank up the AC3 bit-rate to 480. first time I tried it was on default, didn't work then anyway either.

Thank you for the response. I'll try that next time.

Hi, I was tryng to put 3 avis in one DVD, but the program set te average bitrate to 50, the result dvd, as you could imagine, was terrible. As far as I could guess so low bitrate could be considerer teoretically wrong. Perhaps I my self create the problem doing some codecs reinstall. But, anyhow seems to me that so low bitrate should be confirm before the process begin.
