certain avc videos get glitches, when they are transported into .mkv or also .mp4 here. I tried it with demuxing the basic instinct blu-ray, the demuxed video stream played fine and glitch free with vlc, but as soon as its muxed into .mkv there are glitches at some places.
thought then I could try to put it into .mp4 before and then into .mkv, maybe this would help. but unfortunately its exactly the same with .mp4 here :S dont ask me whats causing these glitches.

Re the chapter marks....have not had any luck there. have seen some posts that claim the PS3 is ipod compatible but can't confirm.

there are two things i am trying to achieve.

a) to get mp4 AVC/HE-AAC files with valid PS3 chapters to play from HDD or CD

b) to get them to stream. (i have seen an article update streaming of quicktime movie chapter marks and seems overly complicated) so i would settle for a) first.

The latest Nero Recode has a profile for PS3 AVC and standard Nero Digital AVC.

Is it possible to tell if there is a difference with the encoding or packing of the video?

If it is only the packaging, it would be good if Yamb could have an option for packaging in PS3.

i just used the dolby canon DD6 sample

All the PS3 have a 16 byte difference in size to their Nero format. However, all of them play fine on the PS3 firmware 2.10 if played locally.

None of them seem to stream without starting/stopping.

Lastly, the PS3 shows a .mp4* meaning the format is not supported. So it seems, NeroMedia is still not compatible with PS3 and i am not sure what value the PS3 AVC profile adds, given the other profiles work fine.

If you don't have nero, i can upload the samples somewhere for you

I've got another oddity for you with the srt files.

I used yamb (last one you gave me) to add .srt track and stream it through traversity. using win media player to play and ffdshow the subtitles show.

using nero showtime, they do not show.

now, if you use nero recode 3 to encode with the .srt subtitles they show in both showtime and win media player.

could it be something with the way you are adding the track, or something proprietory with showtime?

I am not sure about the nero filters (i guess showtime uses them - in which case they support srt) otherwise ffdshow does work.

You can do a test using recode 3

in the subtitle section, it normally select vobsub from a dvd stream, but if you select create subtitle, you can then import a number of file types including .srt or create a manual .srt

using this method to encode the srt work in both showtime and ffdshow (with subtitles enabled).

if you then demux and remux with yamb, they no longer work in showtime but still work in ffdshow....

so there is must be something different in the way yamb packages the srt and the recode does

:-( are we sure it is a showtime issue? it works fine in showtime/ffdshow when the file has been created via recode. it is only when remuxing it stops working with showtime

Yeh, it extracts the AAC track but doesn't show the chapter track and doesn't extract it, even if you extract all raw tracks.

I was having problems playing on an handheld mp4 player and wanted to demux the aac to see if it had the same problems, then remux with yamb to see if it was the nero mp4 container causing the problem

by selecting "Extract All Streams to Raw Format" you should have your aac stream & your chapters metadata in a txt file.

I had to rename my .mp4 files to .m4a so they would be recognised in TVersity and on my handheld.

Yamb doesn't see the chapter track in this case. renaming back to .mp4 and yamb works as you say....but...there is always a but....doesn't recognise the covers..

@gwaitsi: MP4Box is not able to extract covers...you need an other tool to do that (MP4tags or AtomicParsley).

Installed the 20080121 build. Went to editing->extract streams; specified an input mp4 with one video track, one audio & chapters data. Accidentally left clicked in the area displaying the track info.

This resulted in an error:

Access violation at address 005789E9 in module 'Yamb.exe'. Read of address 00000030.

This is repeatable.

This time at least, YAMB recognized the audio portion as audio.

Curious, Media Player Classic shouldn't make a difference in playback of iTunes and MP4 files. Do you use the filter from Media Player Classic for playback, or did you install the Haali Media Splitter?

The difference between .m4v and .mp4 shouldn't be noticed by most players, so I don't know if you really want to know it.
But I can try to confuse you a little bit more ;) .
MP4 files use the Object Descriptor Framework, this framework is initialized via an IOD (Initial Object Descriptor). Each audio/video trak has an Object Descriptor which are stored in the Object Descriptor trak. The arrangement of the used Object is defined by the SceneDescription. So if you find in the output of MP4Box, information about the abovementioned things, then you have a MP4 file.

iTunes files are only based at the box/atom structure defined in the ISO base media file format(ISO/IEC 14496-12),and not at the Object Descriptor Framework. That is the main difference.


Back to your problem can you upload your problematic file somewhere, maybe someone can find the problem then?

Wasn't talking about the extract section. Now i see the nero chapter data as stored by foorbar.

but if i go into the tagging section, it doesn't see the covers nor there is some strange behaviour when try to update the tag information.

I mentioned a problem with concatenation in the mp4box thread recently (probably should have been under here, but wasn't sure where the problem actually was)!

Anyways, I tried the latest 03 Feb 08 build of Yamb, concatenation works better than it did before...

The first audio and video are now in the correct spots, not the second audio belonging to the first video etc as before, however, the second joined video does not play. The time and file size is correct, but only the audio plays for the second part of the file.

The problem occurs with any second file, even if I concatenate two semi random files... that is, the same settings, resolution, and say episode 20 and 21 of a season for example. It used to work fine, but if its not a problem experienced elsewhere then thats ok... I'll be reinstalling the computer once SP1 for Vista comes out, hopefully a clean slate may help things. Although I'll keep all my current stored programes like YAMB etc separate, I'll use a clean YAMB after the reinstallation. Least that way it would discount all other possibilities!

It should work. Yamb is more accurate because it uses each streams or each trackIDs. So, I need to tweak that...

It seems to work better with some files than other files In every case I have always concatenated two files of the same resolution, audio bitrate, codec types etc, such as encoding two episodes of a tv show using the exact same settings to test it.
