The Lastest build does not work on my winxp64 box at all will not create a mp4. Just exits back to the gui. Anyone else with this problem?

Here are some bugs and annoyances that I have noticed with the 2.0 Yamb releases, including the latest ones.
When creating an mp4 from an Xvid avi, mp4box crashes at very end of the "Importing AVI Video Stream" process. Yamb doesn't fully realize this and reports that creation was successful. But Yamb is smart enough to stop and the rest of the steps are skipped. (As a side note about the mp4box crashes, the Xvids come from AutoGK. Most times, rewriting the files with AVI Mux GUI will work around the problem and allow it to be imported. These will crash when calling mp4box from the cmdline too.)
After mp4box crashes, the quit dialog for Yamb will show corrupted text on the Yes/Finish button. By corrupted I mean random unicode characters, main Asian. Picture included with this post.
The Properties dialog will sometime show info from other tracks. For instance, if you set the track name of an audio track to English, the name of the subtitle track might show up as English. This is rare and I don't know how to reproduce it.
In Vista, the text fields in the track properties dialog are improperly highlighted.
Once I set the output file name, I wish it wouldn't change, even if more tracks are added. Yamb always uses the last file as the suggested name, even if the user has customized it.
Output log is always stored in the output folder, despite the preferences asking if it should be put Yamb folder.

As you said, this is probably a problem in the AutoGK file creation. So, could you upload somewhere a sample ? That could be great.

I think the properties are just cosmetically changed and not actually "saved".

Why not loading all your files you want to mux in once ?
Sometimes I make mistakes. It's just an annoyance either way.

well...I never said that it was fixed for you coz you didn't mention what you try to do exactly. Did you try with MP4Box directly from command line ?

I've found the problem, its ok now!

What happened is I extraced the audio and video streams using yamb from a few days ago. When I extracted the audio stream, even though I clicked on extract raw audio the file names had extensions .mp4. When these were added naturally it didn't work as it wasn't detecting the file correctly.

In the latest build (23 June) I tried the extraction again, and now it names it correctly, and hence creating the new file works correctly.

@Nurbs : replace the old MediaInfo.dll by this one (http://kurtnoise.free.fr/index.php?dir=misc/&file=MediaInfo-0.7.4.8.zip). This issue has been fixed now. Hoping that you don't need it for MPEG PS or MPEG TS files coz this has been disabled in the linker to compile the library properly...

Certainly not...Yamb uses MediaInfo just to grab some infos from your input files not for writing.

But the "real" log file is always stored in the output folder.

When I go to prefs and change the log to the Yamb folder, it reverts back to the output folder.

Both the config and log files have recent modified by dates so I'm pretty sure they are being written to. I've manually opened the option file in notepad and tried to change it but it will revert right back.

I have UAC disabled and am running as an Admin on Vista.

I'll keep experimenting here to see what is going on.

Yes but writing on the disk is done at the end of the process (i.e when you close Yamb). However, "C:\Program Files\" directory needs special rights to write on it. So, change the Yamb location folder (in C:\ or My Documents\) and try again.

I'm a former MSDN member and ran XP as a limited user acct for several years. I've read quite a bit about least privilege, etc.

I'm aware of NTFS permissions. I've checked them multiple times and they seem correct. Like I wrote, both the config and log files do get updated. They just don't seem to work.

I will try again though.

OK, I tried again and the problem is still there. I open Yamb and set the prefs to save in the app folder then quit. I opened the config file and verified that SaveLogApp=1. Relaunched Yamb and created a new .mp4. The log file was in the output folder. I quit Yamb and again checked the .config file in Notepad- it had SaveLogOut=1 now and SaveLogApp=0. It's not a big deal but that is all I know to tell you.

I'd also like to make a suggestion for the "Create mp4" wizard. Right now, when it finishes, the abort button is still clickable. I'm not sure about this, but the progress bar seems to still be active, though set at zero. To me it would be better to have both of those elements be disabled once the wizard completes. If the progress bar is already disabled or there is no way to disable it, maybe it should disappear or be set to full instead so the process looks complete at glance. Also, the top of the window still reads "Running Process, Wait and relax..." when it is finished.

I can confirm the Temp Directory problem. I had a problem trying to remux things a while back and I found that if you just remove the temp directory completely it works. Took me a while to figure that out.

I think more and more people are using Yamb to split MP4s to make it more manageable to view on their mobile device. One nice little feature that I found in another program (Samsung PC Studio to be exact) is the ability to set an overlap time when splitting a MP4/3GP.

What it does is say I set the time to 10 seconds, the last 10 seconds of the first file will be the first 10 seconds of the second. I know it sounds useless but it is actually pretty useful for continuity when watching a movie or show. Just wonder if anyone would find that feature useful and if so for possible incorporation into Yamb?

Strictly speaking, MP4 container doesn't support AC3 streams but you can find a way (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=124175) to do that (not with MP4Box).

Honestly today, AAC-in-MP4 is more standardized than AC3 and supplies all of which AC3 can offer.

But I believe my receiver won't support AAC!? I recorded many stuff via DVB-s already encoded in AC3. I deinterlace and transcode this to h264 and initially wanted to store this with the AC3 audio.

I used MKV since recently but my Tvix won't support it so I'm looking for a new container and found MP4 which the Tvix supports. And ATM I don't know if AAC works as well as AC3 5.1 Audio with my Receiver?

By-the-way.... only a couple of (old) Sony surround-sound amplifiers were fitted with chip-sets capable of decoding 6Ch AAC-LC via SPDIF!

Avidemux is the way to go if you're interested by a Vdub-like editor...although that the keyframes replacement feature doesn't exist (and honestly I don't see the point to do that without reencoding the stream).

Well, when you do fansubs, sometimes you see after the encode that a line has mistype. With xvid + virtualdub, I could replace the error easily only reencoding the keyframes corresponding to that line. It's very hard to do it with h264, since (I think) there are no programs that handle it like virtualdub.

When I join 2 videos, the videos don't join but rather just get muxed into the same MP4 file and playback at the same time.
This only happens if either video is longer than 5 mins.

Since it happens when I use both Yamb 1.6 and Yamb 2.0 I think the problem lies with MP4Box.

although it is nice to have yamb for tagging as well i must admit that in the last couple of days i get used to itunes for hazzle free mp4 tagging... for me it is working flawless with everything I need... cover art, artist, album, etc. ... for the usual every day tagging itunes works nice... but i can understand that not everyone is willing to install bloated apple software just for tagging :) ... so, just see it as an alternative
