One suggestion (you gurus probably know more, but anyways thought this might of interest): I've seen that automkv uses 3 threads for x264. Now I'm sure I was reading somewhere that 2 threads is always faster than with 3, in some cases by an important margin.

Perhaps threads should be 2 instead of 3? Or auto for that matter? MeGUI uses in almost all cases 0 (=auto). Just a suggestion. Will try to make a comparison here on a small clip with threads =auto, threads=2 and threads=3.
Hmm, seems auto and 3 produce the same result on my rig (P4 HT, single core), whereas threads=2 is actually slower. So strike my previous post out :)

Hi Buzzqw,

after testing the PayPAL button i have a serious problem ...

I can't find any errors anymore ... program is running smooth - everything works perfect. I hate it ..8)

only wanted to let you know about this "showbreaker" ...8)

Happy weekend -- may the framerate be with you .

thanks fogbav ! i miss you !

a lot of works was done for automkv stability and fuctionality.
I have been lucky to find great testers like DDogg, SMD, FogBav, weaver4, travisbell, Barleyman, AMED, Nico.Laus.2001, dlflannery and many others

:thanks: to all!

but.. the features are already in progress (i just added the possibility to force use of directshowsource (both for video and audio), regardless of file input type)

maybe next step to remove bepipe (and so the .net framework)... but the only replacement could be (now... till soundout plugin from Sh0dan isn't near stable and able to command the encoder ) mplayer.exe...
the advantage would be that in multi audio file (like avi or mkv with more audio tracks) the audio tracks could be selectable...

I am very happy that automkv could be a succesfull tools for encoding, expecially with TS files since will be more and more common.

thanks again fogbav !

Kill Bepipe ! Kill BePipe ! Kill bePipe ! Yeahaaa !!!

I had only problems (especialy with AC3) ... i love this progress ..8)

And please always intergrate the Option "Encode ALLLLLL Audio Tracks with org. Settings (AC3/Stereo) to XXX "...8)

Dbox2 Streams here have nearly always Ger. AC3 / Ger. Stereo / eng. Stereo .... so i like to integrate more than 2 Audio Tracks with optimal compression ...

There is this DVD that contains 4 episodes. When I click on "check dvd drive", the "Select PGC" box populates with 4 options, to select the proper episode. When I select, for example, the first PGC, fabdecrypter rips the entire video and then starts extracting the entire audio that corresponds to all 4 episodes together, creating audio of total length of 4x45 minutes=around 2 hours.

Specifically, the four episodes are all on VTS 02 (PGC 1 to 4)

I've also tried the same thing, checking "episodic IFO/DVD", but it didn't help. Am I doing something wrong, or should I rip each episode with my standalone DVDDecrypter first and process each episode rip seperately?

all movies are always full ripped, not only the selected episode

checking "Episodic dvd" automkv will be forced to encode only the vobs belonging to selected ifo (so is working with an already ripped dvd)

es:

vts_01_1.ifo
vts_01_0.vob
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
vts_02_1.ifo
vts_02_0.vob
vts_02_1.vob
vts_02_2.vob
vts_03_1.ifo
vts_03_0.vob
vts_03_1.vob
vts_03_2.vob

without checking "Episodic dvd" only the biggest ifo (and the corrispondenting vobs) is processed
with check on "Episodic dvd" only the selected ifo (and the corrispondenting vobs) is processed . So if i check it and select vts_02_1.ifo only the vts_02_1.vob,vts_02_2.vob will be processed.

If all episodes are encoded in the same vts (like all in vts_01_01.vob,vts_01_02.vob,vts_01_03.vob,vts_01_04.vob,vts_01_05.vob...) automkv isn't able to process single episode, BUT you could use the chapter for navigate beetween episodes :)

Thanks for the info, makes sense :)

Now, perhaps these have been reported, but nevertheless a couple of findings that seem to be bugs:

1) Selecting to shutdown upon job completion, only logs out the user

2) When multiple jobs have been enqueued, and if "shutdown" is selected, then after the first job is finished automkv simply logs out. IOW, that setting should take effect after all jobs have been completed.

My 2 cents, HD MP4 is beeing encoded normally here.
IMHO 0.68 is a little slower then 0.66 when processing all the stuff before the encoding.

..................
{Regarding my statement that using delaycut doubled the time for quick Zune conversions} :

that's near impossible. Is only a DISK to DISK operation, not an encoding operation. The audio file isn't reencoded just "trimmed/muxed" without delay. Isn't a framerate conversion at all!
..............
BHH
You are correct and I was totally wrong about that. It only adds a few percent to the total conversion time. I have corrected my Quick Zune Conversion Guide (http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=319372)accordingly!

On my two computers the hints (when mouse pointer dwells over an entry item) only appear one time, even if you go to a different tab and then return. Also they only appear for about half the time it takes me to read them. Could you please consider making them stay longer and come up more than once per program run? Thanks!

Also, I still think it would nice to have the root file name (name without extension) of the input file appear automatically as the output file name, except when the input and output extensions are the same. In that case, perhaps "Amkv" or "Mod" could be appended to the output root name (?). (The operator could always override the suggested name of course.) I tried using "movie" and "movie name" as you seemed to suggest in a prior post, but I just got output files named "movie.wmv" or "movie name.wmv".

cosmos
15th January 2007, 08:29
Some suggestions that might improve an already excellent program :) :

1) When outputting to Matroska, the title entered in "Movie Name" becomes also the title of the video track, using the --track-title command line option of mkvmerge (if I understand correctly). Perhaps it could become the .mkv's title instead, using the --title option.

2) In the advanced settings tab, the user selects a language. Not sure what it does, but it would save me a click or two, if whatever is selected there, becomes the default choice in the audio track 1 and 2 language (instead of "und"efined).

Last but not least there are those two issues I've mentioned above, not sure though if they are bugs or not:

1) Selecting to shutdown upon job completion, only logs out the user

2) When multiple jobs have been enqueued, and if "shutdown" is selected, then after the first job is finished automkv simply logs out. IOW, that setting should take effect after all jobs have been completed.

@dlflannery

i down't know if i understud clearly... but in next release the movie name will be based (proposed) on input file name
AND in wmv proprierties the title will be the movie

@cosmos

should be fixed!

2) In the advanced settings tab, the user selects a language
even if is not very used AutoMKV could be translated in every languages ! Setting the languages in advanced settings allow automkv to search for a file named automkv.yourlanguage , if found every label will be translated...

Perhaps it could become the .mkv's title instead, using the --title option.
i will search ... thanks to the hint !

The error Error: Error calling AVIStreamGetFrameOpen shows up in the deint.log file.

... please reinstall xvid (the vfw build), also could you post a snippet ? (the problem isn't bind to hq deint or profiles...)

thanks !

You are welcome :) The --title option is essentially what you type in the mkvmerge GUI -> Global tab -> File/segment title. It's very nice because it is displayed in Media player classic, right above the navigation bar ("Title XXXX").

BTW, perhaps AutoMKV should take some credit for all those conversions, so you could probably set a global mkv tag "author" to read "AutoMKV version XXX, see http://yyy/" ;)

... please reinstall xvid (the vfw build), also could you post a snippet ? (the problem isn't bind to hq deint or profiles...)
Have to use the system for some other computationally intensive work atm, but will report tomorrow if it works or not. I should simply install an Xvid build (Koepi's for example), right?

AutoMKV(068) is working fine here, however with some sources when the deinterlacer gives up (not uncommon with very low motion anime), no deinterlacing is applied. it would be nice if there where an option to let autoMKV guess. I don't know how easy or possible it would be to implement or even if autoMKV could redo a pass with more agressive settings.

great work with AutoMKV otherwise.

on a side note, when I was originally working on a 2 minute sample of the same file as above (11 min total) the deint.log reported

BAutoDeint [info]: Number of sections of type `tff': 185
BAutoDeint [info]: Number of sections of type `unknown': 72

Processing completed. Type is determined to be film.
Field order is variable.

and the final result was pretty good.

Something which is a bit strange. IIRC, the movie.avs file contained a call to ColorMatrix. For example, in the log posted by BleedingGums two posts before:

...
05:33:39 BicubicResize(out_width,out_height,0,0.50)
05:33:39 #filter2start
05:33:39
05:33:39 #test5
05:33:39
05:33:39 Convolution3d (preset="animeHQ")
05:33:39 ColorMatrix("Rec.709->Rec.601",hints=false)
05:33:39 -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I also saw that line in previous encodings I've performed with AutoMKV. However I can't locate it in recent encodes:

20:45:34 #test4
20:45:34
20:45:34 BicubicResize(out_width,out_height,0,0.50)
20:45:34 #filter2start
20:45:34
20:45:34 #test5
20:45:34
20:45:34 RemoveGrain(mode=2)
20:45:34 -----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a 4:3 clip and I've enabled "ITU resizing". Could it be the cause of ColorMatrix not appearing?

you are welcome The --title option is essentially

:) DONE ! (added title in advanced audio options)

however with some sources when the deinterlacer gives up

it's difficult.. anyway i reworked the deinterlace choice, so if you know already what is the results of deint.log ("Processing completed. Type is determined to be film." ) you can apply it

colormatrix is always applied. regardless of reizer,deinterlacer,itu, anamorphic... the ONLY case that ISN'T applied is when in d2v the color information report a color mode that colormatrix is unable to change (sorry for the convoluted reply)

:) DONE ! (added title in advanced audio options)
Sorry I'm a bit confused, let me elaborate. In 068, AutoMKV uses the --track-name mkvmerge option in 2 places:
1) It takes the "Movie Name" and uses --track-name to assign it to the Matroska video stream. NOTE: it is only the video track that is assigned the "Movie Name"!
2) In the advanced audio options, whatever is entered in the "Track Name (Director's Comment, Actor" etc, using the --track-name mkvmerge option becomes the audio track's name

What I was suggesting is:
* Leave (2) as it is in 068, that is still use --track-title to assign a description to the respective audio channel (e.g. "MP3 VBR", or "AAC 5.1" etc)
* Change (1) as follows: instead of calling mkvmerge with the option --track-name "<what user has entered in "Movie Name">", call it instead with --title "<what user has entered in "Movie Name">". Therefore, there is no need to have the --title take its value from the audio properties box. In fact, adding the title in the audio channel advanced options would be wrong. There can be only one --title mkvmerge argument for the entire mkv file, it is unique!

This way in the entire mkv file, the global (ie not a track-specific) title tag is set to the movie name. I was not sure if that was what you intended saying in your previous post, hence for the clarification.

colormatrix is always applied. regardless of reizer,deinterlacer,itu, anamorphic... the ONLY case that ISN'T applied is when in d2v the color information report a color mode that colormatrix is unable to change (sorry for the convoluted reply)Thanks for the information, now I understand :) And, BTW, pardon me for making a lot of newbie comments, pls blame my ignorance. This area is new to me (I'm still struggling to find which filter I should use, like convolute3d, other?) :D

AND in wmv proprierties the title will be the movie

You understand correctly! And thanks!

Sorry for this nubie question but:
Am I correct that AutoMKV cannot take Xvid or DivX as input files (perhaps renamed with .avi extension?). I've read this entire thread and still don't know this for sure. An OP on another forum was looking for a way to convert Xvid to WMV and I wasn't sure whether I could recommend AutoMKV for that or not?

Hey buzzqw,

What does AutoMKV use for the HQ de-interlacer?

Thanks!

@dlflannery

best answer is try ;) but i can confirm that is possible to convert .avi /.mp4 ./mkv ./ogm to wmv or whatever container supported by automkv

but remember that only first audio track is processed

What does AutoMKV use for the HQ de-interlacer?

BAutoDeint after analysis could decide that source file is:

1) Unknow
2) Progressive
3) Interlaced
4) Decimating
5) Partly Film
6) Partly Interlaced

and the field order could be
1) Unknow
2) TFF
3) BFF
4) Variable/Hybrid

For Progressive/Unknow source no deinterlacer is used

For Interlaced:
Standard is LeakKernelDeint(order=order,sharp=true) for HQ is Tdeint(order=order), for variable field order is
edeintted = SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)")
TDeint(edeint=edeintted)

For Decimating
Standard and HQ is tfm(d2v="movie.d2v").tdecimate()

For Partly Film
Standard is:
tfm(d2v="movie.d2v").tdecimate(hybrid=3)HQ (for bff/tff just change assumebff and order = , for variable order set order=-1) is edeintted = AssumeBFF().SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)
tdeintted = TDeint(edeint=edeintted,order=0)
tfm(order=0,clip2=tdeintted).tdecimate(hybrid=3)

For Partly Interlaced
Standard is (again change order= to your value):TDeint(order=1,full=false)
For HQ:edeintted = AssumeTFF().SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)
TDeint(order=1,full=false,edeint=edeintted)

For Film
Standard or HQ is:tfm(d2v="movie.d2v").tdecimate()

That's near all !

I've tried to convert xvid to wmv. With ac3 as audio. Did not work. There was no audio in created avs script and the encoding obviously failed. I do have ac3filter installed. The xvid file plays fine in any player or in graphedit. Any ideas what's wrong?

Even with more seasoned "Encoding GUI's", these kinds of conversions are very difficult to achieve...

Besides.... the WMV container does not support AC3 audio. Primarily it supports WMA and WMA Pro ;)

Yes, agreed. I did not want to store ac3 in wmv. I hoped AutoMKV would convert ac3 to 2 channel wma (or ask me if I want multichannel wma).
I mean I know I can extract ac3, convert to wav, convert video to wmv and remux with audio - but that would not be "Auto...". Previous posts implied I can feed almost anything in AutoMKV and get wmv as output.

if you have an ac3 decoder installed (like ffdshow) automkv should encode it to wmv

just choose audio encoder "wmv", channel as "stereo"

I did not work for me. But while I have ffdshow I also have ac3filter which by default handles ac3. Are you saying that uninstalling ac3filter and have ffdshow handle ac3 should help?

Also, just to be clear. NONE of the converters that are out there worked - I mean those that claim to convert from "anything" to Zune compatible format. I ended up going xvid avi-> rip out ac3->convert to 2channel wav-> feed video and audio (separately) to WME. That worked, but hardly an elegant solution.

Not to repeat myself but I think the problem is that the avs script created by AutoMKV (which is in temp directory) did not have any audio component. Which leads me to the following question: what would be the proper avs script that would allow me to feed audio portion of xvid with ac3 audio to any audio encoder. Or in other words - if I wanted to feed just ac3 audio from avi file into, let's say audio track of WME, what would such a script look like?

BTW (since I can't try new vesion for couple of hours), is it going to feed 2channel stereo into windows encoder? windows encoder does support multichannel audio, but it has to be in specific format. Do I have to manually make sure that my ac3filter is set to output 2 channel, or AutoMKV is going to take care of it?

according to Zambelli (and it seemed to work for me, at least based on what MediaInfo shows)
Quote: "[..] you can encode 5.1 audio sources to 5.1 WMA Pro if you wish. The source needs to be presented as either 6 mono WAV files or a multichannel WAV/AVI, such as the ones created by the Mono-to-Multichannel Wave Combiner tool at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...utilities.aspx."

Hi Buzz,

I've been trying to generate a "pure interlaced" Xvid (MPEG-4) encode from a "pure interlaced" MPEG-2 source.... I've tried all the options in the GUI but sadly though, without success :(

By-the-way.... Does the "NONE" option mean the "de-interlacer" is "Off"?

@travisbell

Force DirectShowSource is to use only when you know that proxjectX or dgindex will fail, you can use it on ogm or mp4 input files, whenever you need to process your file by directshow (es. you need to apply a ffdshow postprocessing filter...)

@jmnk
if you know how to do with directshowsource i will be glad to support it !

@SeeMoreDigital
On NONE or Progressive choice NO deinterlacer or deinterlaced test is performed, you can look at resulting avs script

About interlaced mpeg4... i suppose that some parameter is to pass to xvid_encraw or x264...
On Xvid profile there is this <Interlaced>false</Interlaced>, if you change to true the -interlaced option will be passed but not the BFF/TFF (1,2) parameter.
Best answer is to add at Advanced profile editing, at "Add to line:" the -interlaced 1 (for bff) or -interlaced 2 (for tff) :)

Force DirectShowSource is to use only when you know that proxjectX or dgindex will fail, you can use it on ogm or mp4 input files, whenever you need to process your file by directshow (es. you need to apply a ffdshow postprocessing filter...)

@jmnk
if you know how to do with directshowsource i will be glad to support it !

About interlaced mpeg4... i suppose that some parameter is to pass to xvid_encraw or x264...
On Xvid profile there is this <Interlaced>false</Interlaced>, if you change to true the -interlaced option will be passed but not the BFF/TFF (1,2) parameter.
Best answer is to add at Advanced profile editing, at "Add to line:" the -interlaced 1 (for bff) or -interlaced 2 (for tff) :)Thanks for that.....

Just tried that.... And I think it's working correctly. MediaInfo reports the Xvid in MP4 encode as being "interlaced" and the "field order" as being TFF :)

I must admit, I doubt many people would want to generate "pure interlaced" Xvid encodes, especially as they're not very easy to play in a software player. However, "pure interlaced" Xvid encodes play and look great in my hardware player ;)

For my own selfish purposes. Would it be possible for you to add say, an "De-interlacer" "Off" setting, that automatically creates a profile setting which includes "-interlaced 2" (for TFF)..... By-the-way, TFF is by far the most common field order for "interlaced" sources.

Thanks

If I knew I would be coding and not reporting problems only

sorry i don't want to be harsh ! :)

it is that is no easy and not in the workflow of automkv to do this. if would be possible to encode audio separatly and then mux in wmv, i think all problem could be resolved. But i need a standalone (like lame or neroaacenc and avimux_gui/mkvmerge) application to do this

sorry again :o

@vOjToL

i will look at this, thanks !

i will look.. and if found an elegant (easy is already) solution i will insert it (as LEAVE INTERLACED.. and free to select field order) ;)

I think I may have used the wrong smily, I just wanted to be funny. It's really no offense taken here. I wish I knew half of the things you guys know here, and that does not even count coding - which I'm not even trying to do. Thanks for great application. This one (or MeGUI) is so much better than the ones others want to charge for.
Really, no need to be sorry at all.
