Nice. Count me in for some testing.

Few bugs..

AutoMKV doesn't recognize spaces in the input path. For e.g: if I extract AutoMKV to C:\Program Files\AutoMKV, and then start the encoding, during the audio encoding step, it flashes a commandline window saying C:\Program is not a recognized internal or external command. At least, that's what I could make out from it because the command window was flashing wildly (it was rapidly getting closed and re-created again. Very annoying - only way was to end the process from the Task Manager).

Actually, audio doesn't seem to work at all. I tried all Nero AAC options, none worked. It was always in the line of

07:09:06 Starting fixing audio delay on track number 1
07:09:06 No audio found at track number 1 switch to track 2
07:09:06 Finished fixing audio delay
07:09:07 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:09:07 No audio create, retry without apply Stereo
07:09:07 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:09:08 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:09:08 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:09:09 No audio create, retry without apply Original
or
07:11:35 Starting fixing audio delay on track number 1
07:11:35 No audio found at track number 1 switch to track 2
07:11:35 Finished fixing audio delay
07:11:35 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:11:36 No audio create, retry without apply DLP II
07:11:36 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:11:37 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:11:37 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:11:37 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:11:37 Finished D:\Pollock\VIDEO_TS\ to AAC with setting
07:11:38 No audio create, retry without apply Original

Note how the log is incorrect too. First it says retry without apply DLP II and then in the next try, the error message switches to retry without apply Original.

Even Copy Original doesn't work. I get:

07:26:05 Starting fixing audio delay on track number 1
07:26:05 No audio found at track number 1 switch to track 2
07:26:05 Finished fixing audio delay
07:26:05 Renamed file to audio.
07:26:06 No audio create, retry without apply Stereo
07:26:06 Renamed file to audio.
07:26:07 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:26:07 Renamed file to audio.
07:26:08 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:26:08 Renamed file to audio.
07:26:08 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:26:08 Renamed file to audio.
07:26:09 No audio create, retry without apply Original
07:26:09 Renamed file to audio.

I noted that you are not indexing the video and demuxing the audio tracks using DGIndex before this. That might be the reason why it is not able to find the audio streams.

In all of the above cases, the flashing window problem occurs and the only way out of it is to end task it.

OK, so then I selected no audio and DGIndex craps out with a No Video Sequence Header Found error (the kind you used to get if you opened an avs in DGIndex before) followed by a No data. Check your PIDs error. Looks like the PIDs are not being set, for whatever reason.

Whew, that's it for now. Got to leave for work. Will test later tonight if I am sober enough.

P.S: Are you allowed to distribute neroAacEnc? Note that the MeGUI folks aren't distributing it at the moment because of licensing issues.

dgindex is always used ! in mkvmagic.log (at start) what command line is used for dgindex (like) "13:53:15 Dgindex CMD: C:\Programmi\PureBasic4\AutoMKV\exe\dgindex\dgindex.exe -FO=0 -OM=1 -TN=1 -YR=2 -If=[C:\Programmi\PureBasic4\AutoMKV\aaa.vob] -OF=[C:\Programmi\PureBasic4\AutoMKV\movie] -exit -MINIMIZE"

what si your input file ? a dvd structure ? if so the main problem is with ifo parsing... try pointing at main ifo file. or at vob... and at end (before removing all) at an already created d2v

All my testing was on a DVD input. DGIndex is used, but are you using it *before* encoding audio? If I select Nero AAC-Stereo as the audio format, AutoMKV immediately fires up the commandline for encoding the audio with neroAacEnc.exe. But I don't recollect a step happening where the AC3 is being demuxed out of the VOBs. I am pretty sure this was the case, but I will check the logs again tonight.

The input was indeed the main IFO file and I reckon vstrip_ifo.exe parsed it without any issues too.

TS input ? i found an ugly bug... please wait for next update
Nope. DVD input. Which makes the error all the more weird.

Also here are some suggestions:

The GPL license included, COPYING, doesn't have an extension. Make it COPYING.txt.

All the input options should be labelled, Audio Track #1, Audio Track #2, Subtitles, Resizer, Denoiser etc.

There should be an option None under the Denoisers, if I want no denoising. Also, there are non-denoisers listed in there, e.g: ColorMatrix. How come?

Do you plan to provide sharpening options too? I feel you should.

EDIT: And oh, inside the exe folder, you have a chapters.txt and an xvid.stats left over from some testing you have been doing.

Audio part is working now. Now that I am home and checking the logs, I can confirm that there is no sign of DGIndex in them as you claimed. So what was the problem with that part of the code? Was I correct in my observation that you weren't demuxing the tracks before and hence the reason the audio encoding was failing?

Another problem now is that DGIndex's Information window is suppressed when running (Is it because of -MINIMIZE?). So I am not able to see any progress. To add to the problem, AutoMKV GUI itself totally disappears from view once DGIndex is fired off. A progress bar is a must here, IMO. Either enable the Information window of DGIndex or have AutoMKV itself display the log real-time (like in AutoGK), and if possible, both.

So it is encoding at the moment (at least I think so, since x264.exe got invoked now, but nothing in sight). I am out for the night. Will check back tomorrow for more.

EDIT: I can see the x264.exe window now and yes, it is running.

no. I use dgindex as demuxer, and if audio is working then dgindex is launched minimized, and at the and audio is encoded.

no. I use dgindex as demuxer, and if audio is working then dgindex is launched minimized, and at the and audio is encoded.
I don't think you got me. *Now* audio part is working fine (as of v0.05 I tested). Because you are launching DGIndex *before* the audio step, how it should be. This was NOT what you were doing in v0.03, where there wasn't any DGIndex step *before* the audio encoding step. You used to attempt to encode the audio, but without an input track in hand (because it was never demuxed out of the VOB container!). But anyway, good that it is fixed now.

just right click on dgindex minimized and click "restore"
I had tried all that. Restoring doesn't restore the information window. It only restores the main window. Does it work for you?

read mkvmagic.log in destination folder
I am not sure I got what you mean here. Are you saying that you will read mkvmagic.log (and hence maybe display the log in the AutoMKV window) or are you asking me to go read it if I want to know the progress? Former is fine, latter isn't. A newbie user wouldn't want to go looking in the source directory and read the logs to know the progress. Btw, why mkvmagic.log? You should rename it to automkv.log to reflect the name of the tool.

OK, now that the encode is done (with v0.05) , I see that it is undersized (I asked for 700 MB, it gave me 692.2 MB) and it wasn't IVTC'd. It should have been (QMF not working properly?). I am also 99.99% sure, I had selected the width to be 720, but the resultant file has a width of 704 (will confirm this later).

More suggestions..

You are creating a ton of stuff in the source directory and it is confusing. You should be moving all the intermediate files into a temp directory. The source directory should only contain the input files & the output files (movie+subs). You could even create an output directory and put the movie+subs there.

buzzqw

But anyway, good that it is fixed now.

i can confirm that dvd input was broken in 0.03 , and it is ok from 0.05

I had tried all that. Restoring doesn't restore the information window. It only restores the main window. Does it work for you?

yes (as autogk faq..), anyway now dgindex is lauched not minimized

you asking me to go read it if I want to know the progress? Former is fine, latter isn't. A newbie user wouldn't want to go looking in the source directory and read the logs to know the progress. Btw, why mkvmagic.log? You should rename it to automkv.log to reflect the name of the tool.

... i will try to implement a direct log into main window... but i am a newby developer... be patient
about renaming... of course, i have reused some routines from my mkvmagic ... log will be now automkv.log

OK, now that the encode is done (with v0.05) , I see that it is undersized (I asked for 700 MB, it gave me 692.2 MB) and it wasn't IVTC'd

is previus version (prior to 0.6) dbautodeint wasn't correctly launched on path with space in name... please retry with 0.08 build (on a short vob). About undersize... i will try to do better compute... (try with 0.08)

. I am also 99.99% sure, I had selected the width to be 720, but the resultant file has a width of 704 (will confirm this later).
check mkvmagic.log should be written. Anyway the new log (0.08) will be filled with more information

Y The source directory should only contain the input files & the output files (movie+subs). You could even create an output directory and put the movie+subs there.

added a "Del Temp File" check. But remember since this software is in beta status, i analyze many temporary file for debugging

just a note: if you write 200 (for example), overwriting "1 CD" you will got a 200MB final size. The same if you write 800 you will get a 800mb final size. The second number (usually "1") is the multiplier of slice.

let's say: 1 cd , 1 -> 1 cd as final output
2 cd , 2 -> 2 slice of 1400 mb
also 300 , 3 -> 3 slice of 300mb

do you understand ? (i hope so !)

BHHYes, but I wanted people to know what the result was.

[Changed - The error I am having now seems to NOT be anything to do with audio. Rather, it seems to be something caused by using the CQ-ASP_Q2_Eq(crf) profile.] More later.
/add2: Yep, when I choose CQ-ASP_Q2_Eq(crf) profile the process stops before (or during?) the creation of the resmovie.mp4 file. I can then change only the profile to CQ-ASP_Q2_equiv and press start again and it works. Or, at least the resmovie.mp4 is running as I type. What is this resmovie.mp4 file for? Seems to me the CQ mode needs nothing but the encoding pass anyway?

Later: Chose CQ-Q2 equiv space 1/3 dvd - Ended up with a 1.25 gig file with a resolution of 336X144! (scratching head)

I appreciate your work on this program. It did a great encode [when the default settings were used] and is easy and comfortable to use.

/add: a few comments -
1> Although a user error, it is easy to forget to change the output directory to the HD when the input is a virtual drive. No error is thrown, just a crash.
2> If I chose H (my Vdrive) in the uppermost right drop down, should it pick up the dvd structure automatically? If so, it is not working. After start is pressed, DGIndex comes up and hangs open like it is waiting for input.

automkv will auto resize movie based on medium choosed. if you don't wat resize just choose NONE in Resizer ( added automkv 0.11)

usually you should input to one ifo, automkv would choose then the main movie.

Just finished an encode using the CQ-ASP_Q2_Eq(crf) profile and it completed and looked good. Thanks!

That brought up several deeper questions. I hope you don't mind.

I noticed a fair speed difference between AutoMK and MeGUI while using the identical profile so took a look a little deeper as a learning exercise.

Btw, I noticed AutoMK was not picking up the matrix that was hardcoded into the profile and copied to AutoMk's profile
folder (so I added it, hopefully in the correct place). I took both command lines from AutoMK and MeGUI and slightly modified
them to both use the same exe, matrix, avs, and destination folders.

The AutoMK cmdline showed 21.30 fps after 3% and the MeGUI line showed 15.58 fps after 3% (not very scientific, I know).

For some reason, I had in my head that using a profile pretty much caused the cmdlines to be the same in any program.
Probably a poor assumption on my part, but this x264 stuff is all new to me. I wonder if someone more experienced can spot

new full istaller at first post (http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV015.rar)

Just finished an encode using the CQ-ASP_Q2_Eq(crf) profile and it completed and looked good. Thanks! :) :thanks:

Btw, I noticed AutoMK was not picking up the matrix that was hardcoded into the profile
added possibility to choose matrix (0.15)

For some reason, I had in my head that using a profile pretty much caused the cmdlines to be the same in any program.

this should be true !

differcence is "subme" . megui use subme 6 , but automkv use the default , 5

Also, on another subject, you mentioned a "NONE" in size. I saw a blank, but no "NONE" so set it to 720.

NONE is in Resizer, with SimpleResize,Lanczos...
if you choose NONE , then NO reisize is applyed.
Example:
1) SimpleResize / 720: movie is autocropped then resized to 720
2) SimpleResize / Automatic: movie is autocropped and resized to for better diplay
3) NONE / 640 : movie isn't either autocropped or resized
4) NONE / Automatica: movie isn't either autocropped or resized, AND NO resized applyed

:thanks: for your test

Problems in test (v15):
1> x264.exe does not like your -nf argument in 1P max speed.
2> Encoding worked before with my AutoMK dir in "Avi Out" - now borks on spaces. You left out the quote marks for the first of the cmdline.

Requests:
1> Possible to allow editing of the script before encode process starts? Just a save with the process paused so one can go to dir and play it to check if it is ok before continuing. The creation of the x264 test.bat would help also because a person could tinker with the script and run the testx264.bat to gauge speed, etc. When the person was finished, they would click a continue button on the AutoMK gui popup. This would save a world of time instead of starting over every time. That is frustrating.

2> A way to change the load plugin lines so I can use, for instance, RemoveGrainSSE3.dll? Presently renaming it, but that is kind of ugly. Perhaps replace your hardcoded loadplugin lines with an import of a separate plugin script which could be edited? I think that would work. [Yep, tested - importing Path:\plugin_scr.avs works fine as a substitute for your hardcode]

Later: I see the -nf thing was dealt with http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=883442#post883442

the bat are created for debug pourpose. AutoMKV launch x264.exe with parameters.... anyway now automkv will lauch those bat.

Requests:
1> Possible to allow editing of the script before encode process starts?
DONE (0.16). just check "Pause before encoding", this check will pause encoding before autoresize routines and final encoding.

Also you can check it, adjust the autoresize bat, click on wait prompt, and if ok de-check "Pause..." and final encoding will not wait for start

2> A way to change the load plugin lines so I can use, for instance, RemoveGrainSSE3.dll?
every plugin (*.dll) in \filter is automatically loaded.

buzzqw, thanks for being so responsive. The pause feature will be very helpful. [V16 is broken I think, use V15]

The 2pass and CQ modes seem to be working ok, but 1Pass with auto is weird. Note the bitrate below. As well, the movie.avs generated a 112x48 resize! Suggest anybody trying this out should not choose 1Pass or automatic resizing for a while. CQ modes seem ok.

"C:\apps\AutoMK\exe\encoder\x264.exe" --bitrate 241155 --progress --keyint 250 --bframes 0 --qpmin 10

i think problem is caused by using time.avs

i launch x264.exe, with some very quick parameter, and -nf is one of these, and encode time.avs (this parameter will be removed in next automvk build)

then a file "c:\frame.txt" is created and then read (for information about frame, width,height...)

i think i have update my the x264.exe build and not those within the "installer".

Please update your x264.exe in your \exe\encoder folder with latest one from Sharktooth, and report again. (i am not able, now, to replicate the problem)

Also i accept every suggestion and criticism

Was using the very latest x264 build. I will revert back and try it with an older build if I can find it.

buzzqw, is this of any interest? http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=884035#post884035

GOP threading:
+ Scales perfectly to decent-sized clusters.
- Requires application support / restricts API (seekable input, heavily buffered output.) Not usable for realtime streaming.
- Requires CQ or 2pass (no ABR).
I have a dual 930 running with Avisynth 2.6. No problems at all with anything.

I give up trying to understand what is happening here with all the bitrate based stuff. The CQ modes work fine and that is all I need. I will be happy to help test for you when you have a somewhat tested version you feel might be ok. When you do, please upgrade the whole package so I can make sure I am using what you tested with.

Can you set a target bitrate rather than a target size? (e.g I dont want to use 1/3 DVD etc, I want to use the default setting in the HQ-Slow profile)

Thanks!

agressiv Maybe I am not experienced enough to understand but isn't HQ-Slow profile a bitrate based 2 pass designed for a size target? If you just want a quality encode with no size target, try CQ-ASP_Q2_Eq(crf) profile. Did I misunderstand?

Since it looks like the bitrate thing is now working, I need to ask you some questions to better understand your automatic resizing thing -

As a hard test I chose a source of 90 minutes and selected the original AC3 (314 MB (329,891,072 bytes)) with a target of 1 cd using 1P intermediate.

Obviously this is not a good idea, but I wanted to see how your autosizing would work. What I am seeing is a bitrate of 532 and the movie.avs is still 704x304. I assumed the purpose of the automatic resizing would be to move that resolution down to more match the available bitrate. Am I confused, or should the resolution have been reduced? [Maybe it can't work right with 1P? That would make perfect sense as one would not use a 1P for this]

Personally I would not use that feature much, if ever, because I would be using x264 to create HQ stuff and would never want the resolution to be reduced. Still, I would like to understand it better so as to provide some decent testing for you in the future.

I CAN see a mode where a person would like to specify a resolution, quality and the size of the slices and let an automatic mode make the decision on how many slices to produce to yield the specified quality. But that is something to talk about in the future if you are interested as is [the companion topic of light compression enhancing] conditional filtering being triggered if the auto decision showed itself to be on the short edge of adding another incremental slice.

Btw, a process priority selection would be welcomed as x264 does a great job of maxing out my dual not leaving much CPU available for anything else unless I manually reduce the priority.

buzzqw, thanks for your work and let me know how I can help.

Success - The above described encode came out as 692 MB (725,651,061 bytes) - Change: The quality was suprisingly good given the 532 bitrate, 704x304 res, and using 1P intermediate. I think if the proper 2pass mode had been used it would have been quite good. X264 is amazing me more and more. Log attached.

I will try leaving that size field blank. I never ever encode fixed sizes, I always just want target bitrates.

I dont have a lot of sources here at work, but the one I tested with has a large audio delay:

Movie T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY 62224ms.ac3

Audio was desynced - and checking the log, it doesn't look like its attempting to compensate for it, nor can I see where I could compensate for it manually -

I frequently use this source because it represents a challenge :)

Attached is the log -

Other question - anyway of opening the various command line windows minimized or otherwise hidden?

Obviously this is not a good idea, but I wanted to see how your autosizing would work.

basically i encode 5% of full movie (look at resmovie.avs) and look at the resulting size.
Based on this sized i calculate the "better" width

as you said 1pass mode isn't well suited for compression test, and, probably, if you had chosed 2 pass encode the width should be lower.

Btw, a process priority selection would be welcomed

before i allowed the editing of bat files automkv launched all encoding in idle priority. But since i allow editing of bat files, automkv cannot more choose these priority (since now i launch bat files no more x264.exe directly) . I must search another solution....

I will try leaving that size field blank. I never ever encode fixed sizes, I always just want target bitrates.
if you want target bitrate you know the resulting final size (since is based on bitrate !). Write on size box your wanted size.

Movie T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY 62224ms.ac3
.... i think there is something wrong with this delay... try re-ripping and relaunch dgindex. Audio fix is based on delaycut by jsoto, an excellent application

Other question - anyway of opening the various command line windows minimized or otherwise hidden?
there no hidden window. if you want to check bat files before automkv lauch these files, just check "pause before encoding"

Second test on same source using 2P Main Profile sized out at 691 MB (724,595,637 bytes). I used Deen() which is a little too heavy but maximizes compression. Resulting res was still 704x304 but it looked quite good with no artifacts. Maybe AutoMK felt the 704x304 was correct given the increased compression effects of Deen().

I'll try to do another with a strong sharpening filter. That should trigger a resolution change if it is ever going to do so, given a 550 bitrate. I attached the log if you need any information.

DDogg
7th October 2006, 06:53
buzzqw, this whole resolution thing got me going today. I found the method you are using does not create a different filesize even when one sample had Deen() in it and one had a crazy Sharpen(1). This should have near doubled the size of the sample.

So, this was the result http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116773

As an exercise copy one of your resmovie scripts. In one put Deen() and the other use Sharpen(1). Use your normal res encode batchfiles and note very little difference in size (because you are using a bitrate specified method).

Now substitute a -crf 30 and see the filesize nearly double as it should because a constant quality mode is used and the additional complexity caused by the Sharpen(1) causes large bitrate increases as the use of Deen() will cause lower complexity and lower bitrate averages.

The deen() and sharpen(1) is just a quick way to fake movies of different complexity.

Btw, try using only a 1 or 2% sample. That should be fine. SelectRangeEvery(600,12) will give you a 2% and my tests showed it was pretty accurate.

@DDogg : my test has show that x264.exe , not as xvid, isn't good when encoding in cbr mode (or 2 pass mode) when working with selectrange script. Auto Resolution seems to working ok. On the above mentioned encode I chose crf 20 and it moved the resolution down to 464x192. I then reran with a crf of 25 and it chose to keep 704x304.

I still don't understand why someone would want this feature, but I admit my ignorance on many things mp4.

Temporarily for testing and only if it is an easy thing to do, It would be great if pressing the OK button reran the comptest and resolution decision IF AutoMK sees a time stamp change on the movie.avs file. Dunno, maybe more trouble than it is worth.

It is coming together nicely and should be able to already do most of the encodes that "set it and forget it" people want to do. Clearly a batchmode needs to be thought about at some stage to build upon the ease of use.

Folks wanting to get deep n the guts and mess around always have MeGUI. So concentrating on the "Auto" and "easy to do it" does seem to be the way forward for AutoMK and resisting adding too many odd bells and whistles (including mine) is something for you to think about :). AutoMK can't be all things to all people, so let it be really, really good for it's targeted users.

Howdy, SMD,

I think 2 things:

1> If the buzzqw is having fun, and if there is an experienced person like you to help test, adding advanced stuff is always cool, but,

2>Seems there would nearly have to be an separate advanced functions menu/window so the clean simple front-end targeted at 95% of the users doesn't turn into the mishmash we have all seen so many times.

AutoGK had a little of that, but I always wished it had an additional advanced menu which would let me drill down/step through to the guts of the process on those few times I wanted to do so. Still, I understood the authors reluctance to deviate too far from his target user. He is a pretty smart guy :)

could be done in two way: by modifing the avs script or modding the x264 parameters in bat file
I could wait for modifing then relaunch autoresize. Stamp on log the resize gained, then if ok, read the x264 bat and the resmovie.avs.... sorry i think is beyond the scope of AutoMKV... anyway i will think on it :) (thanks for suggestion)

Folks wanting to get deep n the guts and mess around always have MeGUI or using my MkvMagic :D

Elementary stream input option (.M1V, .M2V) is already possble ! ... well... in list of support input just choose ALL file. AutoMKV will ask for audio file, just hit Cancel if you haven't any audio to process (anyway i had already added to list of support file these two extension)

A manual bit-rate encoding option is on the way

A manual output resolution option now is possible to specify the width of video. Your input file will be autocropped and then resized to your choice.
Is also possible to NO RESIZE (no autocrop/no resize), just choose NONE in Resizer list

Manual crop and manual width/height could be done by checking "pause before encoding". Edit your avs file and click ok. (anyway an advanced panel is to considering)

thanks all for your kind words

No problem whatsoever, but let me make sure we are speaking of the same thing. I was suggesting you set the archive bit or note the timestamp when you create the movie.avs. When OK is pressed and IF the archive bit is gone or timestamp changed you just loop back to the resmovie routine, else continue as normal. Thought that would be a simple thing, but understand if not as I don't know how your code is structured. Certainty not worth hardy any effort if it is not that simple.

You are freaking amazing! I think the advanced tab is well thought out and will not needlessly confuse people taking their first look at AutoMK.

It may be this evening, but I'll do a complete set of tests (need to finish my test CRF encodes first). Hopefully SMD can give it a workout also. Between the two of us we should be able to break it if it is breakable :)

Add: very, very nice! Selected multiple auto resize and input crf 22, got 608 res - said yes to redo, and changed to crf 25 and got 703, then did it again with crf 18 and got 368. Seems to be working nicely and I wonder if you should not remove the other size check or at least make crf the default?

BHHConfusing is an understatement :) When a person chooses 2 cds they are saying they want 2 final files that will burn to 2 cds. If a person chooses 1/3 dvd they want 1 file of 1/3 dvd size. The user should not need to know, or input anything else (imo). It is your call as the author, but I would strongly recommend you consider changing this to be more intuitive and understandable. That is how all the other programs like recode do it, and I think people are used to it being that way.

/add: To provide advanced users with more options you could activate the number of slices IF the user typed in a numeric value NOT already in the dropdown box (or chose "custom")? Else make it grey, or invisible? The custom thing makes sense to me. If a user chose custom then 2 boxes would appear, size and number of slices, else you would automatically create just what they had chosen from the dropdown - 2cds = 2 slices of cd size

Nice work buzzqw. Keep it up and AutoMKV might replace MeGUI for me :) (No offense to MeGUI :D )

Feedback:

1) The "Del Temp Files" doesnt seem to take care of subtitles.
2) Any way of saving settings? I find myself doing the same things over and over again:

Set Nero quality to .25
Set Nero channels to original
Change Resizing to Lanczos4 Resize
Change to 1 DVD-R
Change Profile to HQ-Slow
Advanced Page - Specify Bitrate - 1000

3) I still have a problem where the audio is desynced when the delay is really high (I had one that was 62224) It doesn't seem to compensate that much.
4) Still no option to launch windows minimized :D They frequently steal focus away while I'm doing other things.

Other than that, the only thing its missing is batch mode. I suppose I could try multiple instances, with different output directories, but I'm not too hip on having multiple encodes going on at once, its not the same thing as batch mode.

dgindex *does* report the delay.

If I manually compensate in the mkv gui muxer, all is well. Its just such a high value that AutoMKV doesn't seem to go that high. MeGUI doesn't either (5000 seems to be the limit)

Hi buzzqw, you must have put in a lot of time to change the GUI. I am still getting used to it, but it seems clean and well thought out.

The size thing is still confusing, imo. The way SMD suggested would work well. If you are going to have a custom selection, then suggest you open both size and slices boxes. That is, if custom is chosen then the user would see Custom, Size, slices. Else, my personal opinion is to go with SMD's suggestion. Both are intuitive, but the present way you have done custom is not, imo.

Others may feel differently, maybe the way my mind works is the problem.

Great progress!

/add: About the batch thing. It might be easier for you to think about doing a semi auto method of batch. That is, the user would do all the steps, including auto res, etc. At that stage they could chooses to begin encoding or defer it to a batch worklist. I suggest this because this would give you a situation where you had already created all your final batchfiles and scripts. Just a thought.

I have a lot of DVD's rip to hard drive in IFO/VOB format. When I go to INPUT in AutoMKV (AM) I find I have to chose the video.ifo file because if I pick the first VOB file in the group DGIndex only sees the first VOB file and none of the rest. I've tried highlighting all the VOB's but I can only highlight one. In some of the other GUI's picking the first VOB brings them all over into DGIndex...atleast I'm pretty sure. If I pick the ifo file DGIndex doesn't run right and tells me to check my PIDS or something like that. Then I have to tell DGIndex to add the VOB's manually and it lets me highlight all of them then it runs the d2v file and AM continues on it merry way. Am I missing something here at the input stage? I am pretty green at this and still learning. I usually use Recode but the newest version is pretty FUBAR so I'm trying AM.

You have not mentioned the speed of your PC that will be used for encoding and for playback here or in the other thread.

As for your question, I can only answer what I would do and not try to make your decision for you. Only you can do that and suggest you do some actual encodes before asking too many more questions. Here are a few things to try and then YOU can report back to the group on your findings.

My DVDs are encoded to my home server and are not constrained to a certain size. I retain the AC3 as there is no compelling reason for me to convert to AAC. I use the MKV format with x264 video. As mentioned in the other thread, generally the method of encoding uses the CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile.

The reason for this is CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile is a constant quality mode which will automatically allocate more bits to more complex areas and the file size will be just as large, or small, as it needs to be depending on how complex the source is. So, at least try that method first and see if you can see any difference whatsoever between the encode and the original source.

If you are not happy with the encode THEN you could go into the profiles\x264 profiles folder and make a copy of the CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile and rename it CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf-15) profile. Open that file for editing and change the <BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer> to <BitrateQuantizer>15</BitrateQuantizer> and try that new profile as your encoding profile. Filesize will increase ~ 50%. Wasteful perhaps, but something for you to try, as is the companion CQ-Lossless profile.

Or, you could simply use one of the 2 pass modes, maybe
HQ slow, and allocate a silly amount of space like 1/2 DVD. According the the x264 author, you might get better bitrate allocation from the 2 pass mode, but imo this is not as important for your situation as you mentioned you are not concerned about final size.

Also try the use of custom matrices. Try eqm_avc_hr as your first.

There is no best and only method, especially when filesize is not an issue. In the end it is your decision.

Let us know how your first encodes turn out. I think you will be highly surprised how good they are.

buzzqw, running into several problems and have some comments:

There seems to be something changed with the auto res/multiple (28). I choose 1cd and checked crf 19, 2% sample, and multiple resize. The res came up as 320 which is different than before. I then changed to 2cds and selected redo, res was not changed and the continue/redo window stole the focus so I could not make any changes. Seems like it steals the focus every second time and it is not picking up the changes.

Choose "custom" which presents me with "custom" and "1" - Makes no sense at all to me. 1 what?

Understand the queue is experimental - Some way to delete from the queue? Also, what if a person wants to use multiple resize and such? That's why I suggested requiring the user to go through the initial stages and only have the actual encoding and muxing queued.

Adding so many features so quickly is great in many ways, but you might want to keep a more stable version like 22 in the first post and only update that as testing shows your next versions are somewhat stable.

I just tried this five different ways...tried first VOB, IFO, video.ifo,VTS_09_0.IFO
All of them did not work properly using AM28. Is anyone else having this problem?? In some cases DGIndex runs but it seems to be still just doing ONE VOB file, not all after picking first one. In some cases DGIndex ran twice??? I finally went back to AM22 and chose the video.ifo file, got the normal DGindex's warnings I got before in AM22 like "checkPIDS" then deleted the video.ifo file in the ADD file window of DGIndex and then clicked on ADD in the same window and chose all five of the VOB's and it goes on it's way...AM seems to work OK from there. Also, AM 28 did not seem like it was using force film when appropriate. Does it use it if I use AM 22 as described above.

1 is the number of slices. so if you choose custom and OVERWRITE CUSTOM by 1400 and write 2 on next field you will have 2 file of 1400mb I would suggest that is not very intuitive and that allowing "Custom" to be seen as well as a size box and number box would be a better way (or as SMD had suggested). The suggestion is only made to attempt to be helpful to you and the end users, not to pester you. ... please edit default.avs I think you meant the base.avs? job queue isn't compatible with multiresize or editing of files (i don't check for pause or multiresize) Hmm, that is a bummer. I guess I could stop the encodes and create my own batchfile to run the encodes from several directories, but it would be helpful if you would put a mux batchfile in the working directory, or better yet, build each job as a batch including the mux. This would be helpful for debugging, or for going back and redoing an encode. Possible?

> fixed size problem on autoresize.

(0.29) Using multi res, If I change from 1 cd to 2 and redo the test, the same resolution is computed and it continues to steal focus and not allow me to change anything after the 2nd or 3rd redo. Maybe because I am multitasking doing several other things like spreadsheets and email while the redo test is running?

I do notice, when the focus is stolen, that instead of having 3 AutoMK items in the taskbar, I have 2. To rephrase that, I've noticed when the settings in AutoMK can be changed for a redo there is always a 3 in the AutoMK icons on the taskbar. Does that make any sense to you?

1) Subtitles are still left behind.

3) Batch Encoding - ignores output directory and puts everything in the main movie directory
4) Batch Encoding - GUI disappears completely (no taskbar, no tray icon) but the process continues to run and completes. AutoMKV quits after batch completes.
5) Minimize works great! Only thing missing is dgindex - just add a -minimize at the end of the command line.

Wow! So much progress in so short a time! No need to thank me for patience as you are doing all the hard work. I just get to play :)

Moving the log to a tab was a good idea. It makes the look and feel much better and seems to have fixed the focus steal. The "prepare phase only" (PPO) is also very nice, but it brings up some questions. Your patience is appreciated.

When multires and PPO is checked, It would seem natural (intuitive) when the "No" on redo is checked that a pop-up appeared saying "Added to Queue". Maybe you have set it up so that if PPO is checked, one should press the Queue button? That does not seem right to me if so. In fact, I wonder if you should move the PPO check to the Basic settings page and ghost/grey the Add to Queue button while it is checked?

You are creating a mux.bat now (thanks!). Seems you could then create a batch in the working directory that includes, or calls, the separate batchfiles there now and the Queue would simple run the full job batchfile? Dunno, just thinking out loud.

Some cosmetic thoughts for you to think about later (not now :) ). There are areas where some selections should be deactivated/greyed out if certain other options have been chosen. For example, if a crf mode is selected, the output size could be greyed to show it will have no effect (parse for --crf in the profile?).

Another example, if a fixed resolution is chosen, multires should be deactivated, or a pop-up could appear if a user chose multires saying "Only available with Autores mode" - Something like that.

These things are not important now in an alpha stage, but it looks like this program can become a really great one (if you don't get burned out), so these cosmetic usability areas will become more important down the line as you try to help the user intuitively understand the program. Think of those programs you have experienced that just seemed to make sense from the first day you saw them.

Buzzqw, really incredible work. Hope you are having fun doing it. If not, take a break. Remember, "you don't owe anybody anything". We owe you, and we can damn well wait for a few days for you to take the time to fix or change things when you feel like fixing/doing them. It is not as if you are getting paid for this :)

Again, great job and much respect your way!

about one only full batch ... i must see an easy way (well is a easy work for sure ... but a lot of code to add... i will see)

Undot() Note the undot() which was used on the first size pass, then changed to FFT3DFilter(sigma=3) for a redo (the undot() should have been removed). Also note the "rt" which red lines the script. I did add the CR in base.avs as you suggested.

2> Sometimes try opening a d2v, or avs from an existing AutoMK working directory where del temp file was not checked. Let me know if it works for you.

3> Doesn't seem to make sense to allow a PPO to be queued - You end up with a ok/redo pop-up without having access to AutoMK to make changes. Still think you should ghost Queue if PPO is checked and add it to the queue when "no" is chosen for redo, but maybe I don't understand something. Btw, if you don't think that is a good idea, then you might want to throw an information pop-up when "No" is clicked saying something like "PPO finished - Batch files created in <working directory>". Just a thought.

4> Can't you just make a simple batch [and call from the queue if the PPO flag is 1] by creating a bat with:

Rem full batch to run all bats in a working directory
call D:\temp\x264cmdq_ABR.bat
call D:\temp\muxing.bat Works fine for me.

@travisbell
I am very glad !

1> I am still getting this in the final movie.avs after using multires:
i cannot replicate the problem ! (damn!) please try downloading (and use) my base.avs www.64k.it/andres/data/a/base.avs

Sometimes try opening a d2v, or avs from an existing AutoMK working directory where del temp file was not checked. Let me know if it works for you.
NO don't work. Must fix in next build :EDIT: fixed avs input. d2v should fuction alredy, just don't put destination directory in the same source directory

PPO finished - Batch files created in <working directory>". Just a thought.
Good suggestion. Queue is a full save of all setting (near all).As is builded isn't possible to add PPO. but i have some ideas :)

Can't you just make a simple batch as already said isn't difficult. is only to collect varius batch/values... let me do some code

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Ironically, I'm doing some TV episode encodes as well, and deint.bat isn't working.

This is in deint.log:
Error: Error calling AVIStreamGetFrameOpen

I'm not sure what I'm missing.... and thus interlaced encodes look horrible.

Whats the syntax for using an external de-interlacer to replace "AUTO"?

I created an AVS file that has this:
edeintted = AssumeTFF().SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)
tdeintted = TDeint(edeint=edeintted,order=1)
tfm(clip2=tdeintted).tdecimate(hybrid=1)

And replaced "AUTO" with:
Import("C:\Program Files\AutoMKV\exe\filter\deint.avs")

but it seems like the wrong way to do it.

1) How can I get the AUTO de-interlacer to work?
2) Whats the proper way of configuring de-interlacing other than pasting in the line from the AVS script?

Edit: #2 isn't working anyways. I'm just not adept enough with Avisynth to figure out why.

update www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV35.exe

fixed: avs input
added: courtesy message at end of PPO
added: at end of PPO a fullbatch.bat is created (first/second pass and muxing)
added: if custom.avs is present into filter directory, this file will be imported automatically
EDIT: added: possibility to specify output file name (also added to queue list)

@AMED
try using this build. the problem shoud be fixed

@agressiv
USE THI BUILD
PUT EEDI2.dll INTO FILTER DIRECTORY
DELETE DEFAULT.AVS
create a custom.avs script in filter directory and write this:

function aggressiv(last)
{
edeintted = AssumeTFF().SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)
tdeintted = TDeint(edeint=edeintted,order=1)
tfm(clip2=tdeintted).tdecimate(hybrid=1)
}

in AutoMKV, on deinterlace write: aggressiv()
DONE !

custom.avs could be a very quick way for loading several fuction... just use your immagination :)

thanks that seemed to do the trick.

Is there any way you could improve the responsiveness of AutoMKV, it seems to effect my whole system. it makes it very painful to use.

as i already said in previus build all program launched were in idle priority, now lauching batch files i have less control.

Anyway you could lower the priority by tast manager.

Love the PPO message and the full batch, thanks for doing that!

Don't know if the following is a problem (part of it is), or a future feature :)

If a a CFR profile is selected, and autoresize and multires selected, clearly there should be no reduction in resolution. There is presently, so you might want to look at that.

Now you might ask why would somebody want do this. You know the answer, because we want to see the size of the sample (lot of useful information there). You already know you are in CRF mode (as you ghosted the size) as well as the sample %, and actual size of the sample, it would be great if you could simply do the math and show the ~projected size of video and audio when you bring up the redo box. Nearly like an information screen ... Again, just thinking out loud.

/add: or maybe not as it is does not seem intuitive. You are presently greying multirez if a custom size is chosen ... hmm, dunno, but I don't think my suggestion is good in this way because I am using the multires not like it was intended. It is very useful, but kind of a backdoor approach that should not be expanded. Anyway, I have a feeling you might be adding another tab soon that might be more tuned to this type of use :)

/add2: Non related. I noticed JohnV put a link to a TS file in the nero post. I tried it with AutoMK and it went a little crazy. I believe it is because it has open gops and dgindex is throwing an error. Might give it a try and see. AutoMK worked fairly well when a manually created d2v was opened in AutoMK. Not sure if the interlace options were correct as I don't do interlace, or ts for that matter, or if there was a problem with the ts steam. The quality was only marginal in the original, especially on the pans.

i have some good news... (read your PM)

Non related. I noticed JohnV put a link to a TS file in the nero post. I tried it with AutoMK and it went a little crazy. AutoMKV don't find the correct audio track, BUT if you choose NONE on audio track encoding will be running well.

About framerate (59.998) actually automkv don't do anythink... since I don't know how to work with these files :o ;( , i will search on

EDIT: in 0.37 fixed private ac3 stream as in Michigan_Marching_Band--Star_Spangled_Banner_720p_ATSC.ts

you have 4 checkboxes you can set for the Container and output.
there is AVI available.

ehh.. I've used almost every beta for the past few weeks, and its always been MKV/MP4 - AVI was never an output option AFAIK.

You sure you don't mean AutoGK? It uses AVI as its standard output format.

Nice work - The additional prediction information in the multires box is very helpful so long as the user understands it is an approximate value. Later, if we get enough data on the curves, you may want to add a curve correction factor. So far it looks like crf 17-20 would need a ~ -5-6%, but that is way premature at this point.

1> Crf profiles are a special case since they include a crf #. You might want to parse that number and put it in the value box for "Use crf for autoresize routines" so your prediction will agree with the profile crf. If the user manually changes the crf for a redo you might want to use that crf for the final encode as the user would want the encode size to follow the prediction. Am I thinking straight?
2> Adding commas would be good thing :)
3> Including the size of the video only would be good if you have the room in the pop up box. Else, not a big deal.
/add:
4> What if 2 audio streams are selected? If you don't have the space to list audio2 then maybe show total audio by adding the sizes of the two audio tracks? And then there are the subs ...

Other:

1> In advanced profiles editing it would be useful to show the commandline generated by the profile that you will be using for the encode (and allow editing of the cmdline)? I ran into a situation where I wanted to use a redo with a matrix that recommended "--deadzone-inter 6 --deadzone-intra 6" [and would have like to manually enter this since not supported in profile]. This would seem to follow your purpose when you added the advanced profiles tab.

/add: Note: Trying to do more comprehensive testing for you - Testing with 2 audio and 2 subs. Crf profile -Auto size on - 2 cds as output. Prediction showed 1.8 gs as final output yet resolution was still kept at 704. Just fyi.

Mux line from fullbatch:
c:\\mkvmerge.exe" -o "D:\\movie.MKV" --aspect-ratio 1:2.397004 --split 700M --chapters "C:\\AutoMKV036\exe\chapters.txt" "D:\temp\movie.mp4"

BUT i think i have understood your point of view... Not sure which point of view you are speaking of. (idea for next version: add button auto REDO -> check for predicted size, if > SIZE requested, diminish width, redo again)Maybe useful for some. I only use the autores to find a point it does NOT reduce width. In other words, if it reduces width I add a filter, change matrix, or add size. The very last thing I want is for the resolution to be reduced. It is kind of funny, using autores in a backwards manner allows me to find out how NOT to reduce resolution. Since I have input a crf value for the sample, this tells me I can get close to that crf value without wasting any space and without reducing resolution.

That is one of the reasons I think you should parse the crf value contained in a crf profile and put it into the sample box value. That crf is what the encode will be created with right? So for a crf mode encode it makes sense to start multires with a matching crf in the crf sample box. IF a user then changes the CRF value in the sample box (for a redo), does the redo, and then selects "no" to redo, the crf value in the sample box should be used for the final encode as that was the crf used to make the prediction. (only a crf profile). At least that is how I would do it and I think it makes sense.

Width or filesize? 704 was the width and I am redoing encode.

sorry i mean in log file this:
Movie Width Computed: 688
17:27:18 Predicted file size: 1460820 byte

have you got what file size (at final encoding) ? this 1,307,182,261 ? if so i think that 704 was good :)

??? I had manually set to 18 to MATCH the crf in the profile. i wrote 19 because is the default parameter. BUT automkv use THE number you typed.

Will play with it. [What stats file? There is none with crf mode, is there? Btw, where did this tool come from? Are there any docs?] sorry i forget that crf will not build any file stats. this tools come from an italian forum (and is free to use). Is like the DRFAnalyzer but for X264, and analyze only the file stats not the video. And... no doc, just poit it to stats file.

That is one of the reasons I think you should parse the crf value contained in a crf profile and put it into the sample box value DONE

the crf value in the sample box should be used for the final encode actually NOT... but i think too that should be used for final encoding.

about mux subs i will look.

The way you did the command line and allowed changes worked out nicely, and using the crf value in the sample box for the encode [when and only if final encode is done via a crf mode] is very good.

I wonder if it is time for you to consider freezing features so we can test all parts of the program? We could hope that more users will take the time to report problems to you. I've only tested x264 in mkv format with ac3 audio. There are large areas that need further testing.

1> Muxing subs is still a problem for me with v39. Are you still working on this area, or should I report the problems now?
2> Consider an icon with an abort button for Queued encodes? I think it is not good for a user to have to use task manager to attempt to kill the process. Is it difficult to put an icon in the tray like AutoGK does?
3> Encoding windows are not minimized now since you added the process priority change.
--------------------------------------------------------

The only comment I would make is about the beginning crf value when a crf profile is used, but I think the language barrier might be causing confusion. I'll try to show my thinking like this:

1> User picks CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf)
2> The stock CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile is preset at crf 18
3> If user does not know to change the "Use crf for autosize routines" value, the encode will not follow the CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile because it will use crf 19.
4> Do you disagree that the starting sample should be made with the value in the loaded crf profile value (18)? This assumes the user has only loaded the CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile and not changed the crf sample value.
5> Or, is it simply that it is difficult to parse the value and put it in the value box? If so, I can understand that.

-----------------------------------------------------------

this build is a good one for test and reports problem. i am glad if anyone will report bugs and request. And i am glad to put in frozen status. I will try to correct all bugs and mantain a parallel version with new features.

no, it is very easy. in next version i will parse the profile (crf) ant put this value on "Use Crf for autores..." (DONE while writing this post...)

is VERY difficult SINCE i launch bat files..., i can do by listing process and KILL... but is an hackish procedure.

The easy way is to kill automkv window. In this mode the batch queue is lost

3> Encoding windows are not minimized now since you added the process priority change.

it's a problem of timing... i tested on 2 of my computers, the one slower (P4 2.6) minimized is good, the faster (p4 3.2) not... i must put a mayor delay before checking for opened windows...

While subripping is good i cannot make a correct mux with audio/video. EVEN if i use mmg.exe i cannot see subs... (could be a problem on my side...).I don't think it is a big problem [tho I never have used subs and know nothing about them]. It seems to be just your mux.bat, because when I use mkvmerge GUI and load it with the files you made, the new muxed file plays fine in Media Player Classic with both audio and subs.

So, here is your mux line that does not work:
"C:\apps\AutoMKV036\exe\matroska\mkvmerge.exe" -o "D:\temp\auto2\2\movie.MKV" --aspect-ratio 1:2.397004 --chapters
"C:\apps\AutoMKV036\exe\chapters.txt" "D:\temp\auto2\2\movie2.mp4" --language 0:eng "D:\temp\auto2\2\audio.ac3"
--language 0:eng "D:\temp\auto2\2\audio2.ac3" "D:\temp\auto2\2\vts.idx"
and here is the command line made by mkvmerge GUI which works (using only your files)[note trackorder at end]:
"mkvmerge" -o "D:\temp\auto2\2\movienewmux.mkv" -d 1 -A -S D:\temp\auto2\2\movie.mp4 -a 0 -D -S D:\temp\auto2\2\audio.ac3

--track-order 0:1,1:0,2:0,3:0,3:1 --chapters C:\apps\AutoMKV036\exe\chapters.txt Note: mkvmerge GUI does not like your aspect ratio when I tried to paste it in. The chapters.txt was added to be more like your line.

1> Hmmm, allowing x264 in an avi format? hmmm - Adding this stuff now is a complication
2> Seems like use crf should be greyed out when doing XVid? Confusing now. I am not even sure what you are doing. If you are going to allow that, then maybe you should use the Xvid CQ mode?
3> Link to the specific version of AVIMux? AutoMK just crashes with the version I used ... and why would it go directly to the avimux step right after "no" in autoresize is clicked? It does not seem to try to do the actual encode.
4> AutoMK, for reasons I don't understand at this point, will sometimes just vanish when start encode is pressed. I assume that is some sort of crash, but it just disappears. Will try to figure out what is happening when I have more time. You can then run AutoMK again, select the same parameters, and it will not crash - (I also saw this with v38 but not v39)

3> Pressed start encode. Subs extracted and dgindex run, comp test run, selected NO and immediately AviMux comes up (no encoding remember I had PPO on), and the error says audio.ac3 is open. Exact text in above post. So, suspect it has to do with PPO?

Running again with PPO unchecked. <yep>

/Another issue has popped up with v41. Think stable and freeze man! :) I had to rem out ColorMatrix(d2v="movie.d2v") in resmovie. Else I get "ColorMatrix: d2v and filter frame counts do not match". Since it puts it back in on a redo, this has stopped testing.

Thanks. Check the contents of fullbatch in xvid PPO mode. Mine just has the mux line in it.

/add:
XVid full encode test completed 3 cd with 2 audio and rip all subs. Sample 2%, crf unchecked, Auto res with PPO. Batch lines later run. See above.
1> 2 audio played ok
2> No subs were viewable in MPC
3> Originally 2 cd's were selected, then changed to 3 cd's after a redo.
Final mux was 2 files. File 1 was 2,131,798,116 bytes, File 2 was 71,650,804 bytes

Mux line was simply:
"C:\apps\AutoMKV036\exe\matroska\AVIMux_GUI.exe" "C:\<snip>\Movie\work\muxavi"
muxavi was (note no subs):
CLEAR
LOAD C:\<snip>\Movie\work\movie.avi
LOAD C:\<snip>\Movie\work\audio.ac3
LOAD C:\<snip>\Movie\work\audio2.ac3
SELECT FILE 1
ADD VIDEOSOURCE

ALL AUDIO 1

Avi, yuck ..... Somebody else is going to have to test this further for you. Back to mkv for me 'cause I have already kicked my cat too many times today.

/add2: X264 mkv Getting there :)

1> Video and 2 audio in sync
2> Subs still same as before. Not showing in MPC.
3> Selected 2 cd's. Got 3 files - 2 files @734,561,276 and 1 file @79,962,867 (could be because I screwed up and had audio 1 set for aac stereo and audio 2 was set as ac3 original)

Hey man, I am having a weird problem.

All new encodes don't result in an actual file... AutoMKV encodes for a while, and according to the log finishes... but no file is created. I have linked to my .log here, maybe you can understand what's going on.

I am trying to encode HD .ts files, I have tried 3 different files and have the latest versions of all the files.

XVid - AVIavimux_gui do NOT support muxing of subtitles... Well since you decided to add avi, maybe you should use something else that does?cloud you try manually launch avimux and load movie_avi and audio files and retry mux asking to split at 700mb ?erm, tried, but really don't know the tool very well. Seems like crap. Would make one 700 file then stop.

X264 mkv please open with mediainfo or gspot the mkv file, and tell me if subs is present. also... can you see subs from manually muxed files ?Like I said several times before. Manually muxing works fine. I did install the CCCP and I get the green auto vobsub thing in the taskbar. Maybe you should install CCCP before we go much further? don't recheck if audio parameter is chanced. in this case those 79mb are the difference between audio.mp4 and audio.ac3...Nope, I did not change a thing in audio for the redo. The only oddity was I had Audio1 set for AAC stereo and Audio2 Original Original when I first started the encode. I think you mis-calculated size?

As far as I know, AVI-Mux GUI supports SRT and SSA subtitles and embeds them within the AVI container.

I just wanted to say thanks a lot, buzzqw (and the rest of you that have been helping out on this thread). This application is fantastic and just what I've been looking for! :D

A couple of things...

I did read a few pages back that you're aware that having the UI completely vanish when you start a batch encode with the Queue is not ideal, but this hasn't changed. Is this still coming or did it drop off the radar? (It baffled me until I dug through this thread to find it mentioned.)

Also, this is quite a bit less important, but it'd be nice. Is there any way that if you call AutoMKV with a file path as a command line argument that you could have it load up with that file pre-loaded as the Input file? This would be pretty cool for using Right Click --> Send to directly on the media files themselves in Windows Explorer (or from inside other media management applications).

I've actually now found a problem with encoding a certain video file using AutoMKV. When it gets to the DelayCut stage, the fixed1.mpa file it creates just keeps growing and growing until it uses up all of my available hard drive space. I had it grow to 170 GB for a one hour video clip one time and the second time it got to almost 70 GB before I stopped it. The process never ends...

The video I was test encoding was recorded by my HTPC by BeyondTV:

http://www.geocities.com/ri0n/AutoMKV-audiogrows.jpg

Here is the DelayCut line from the AutoMKV log:

12:27:38 DelayCut CMD: C:\Program Files\AutoMKV\exe\dgindex\Delaycut.exe -auto -out "C:\video\projects\fixed1.mpa" "C:\video\projects\movie T01 DELAY 102ms.mpa"

The log starts like this:

[Input info]
Bitrate=384
Actual rate=384.000000
Sampling Frec=48000
TotalFrames=169388
Bytesperframe=1152.0000
Filesize=195134976
FrameDuration= 24.0000
Framespersecond= 41.6667
Duration=01:07:45.312
Channels mode=Stereo
LFE=LFE: Not present
[Target info]
StartFrame=-4
EndFrame=169387
NotFixedDelay= 6.0000
Duration=01:07:45.408
====== PROCESSING LOG ======================
Time 00:44:48.312; Frame#= 112014. Unsynchronized frame...REWINDED 1148 bytes. Found new synch word
Time 00:44:48.360; Frame#= 112016. Unsynchronized frame...REWINDED 1148 bytes. Found new synch word

And goes on like that for a long time (with the unsynchronized frame messages), probably basically until I cut it off.

The video plays fine in MPC and doesn't seem to be out-of-sync. Other videos I've recorded with BeyondTV did encode fine with AutoMKV and MeGUI (though I don't know that I've tried this actual video file in MeGUI).

glynor, nice to see another tester! I'm wondering if the same problem would show if you were to load that file in VdubMod, use directstream copy and create a new file to test with AutoMK? Or, file>open>check extended options and rekey the file? Just curious - and it might help buzzqw identify the problem if that fixes it.

I noticed yesterday that I encoded a movie (after changing the movie name to something OTHER than 'movie') and the result was...nothing. I'm wondering if changing the default movie name in the UI isn't totally bug-free, and that there may be some case where the encoded video isn't seen because it has the wrong filename, or something like that. Has anyone else had problems with using something other than 'movie' in the name field?

On avs source file automkv will not apply any resize or filter.
Better: when using avs as source the width value "automatic" or any other value IS IGNORED in final encoding.

Even if autoresize suggest, for example 640, the final movie.avs will be only "import ("ooo.avs") , without any resize applyed

Well, I tried re-encoding the same stream again yesterday, with the same result, no movie. I then encoded a third time, without changing the default movie name (it was set to 'movie') and I turned off the 'delete temp' option so at least I could see what was happening...and I did get a movie.mkv from the encode that I could look at, but I don't know if it would have been deleted by with the temporary files. The filename I was using when the encode never materialized was 's2e05'.

The encode I did was not a real high quality one (I didn't want to wait 6 hours for no results) so I'm going to experiment a bit now. I'll give you feedback in a few hours.

Okay! I've made a few interesting discoveries with this clip. First off, there does appear to be an error of some kind in the source clip. Watching the source footage, there is an audible (and visible) error at right around 00:44:48. Here's a clip of just that stretch:

http://users.adelphia.net/~edandjenn/temp/RTBM-2006-09-08-0_smclip.zip

What I've found:

1. 0.46CRC and 0.47CRC made no difference when trying to encode the original source file. Same exact problem.

2. I am able to use 0.45 (and 46-47 as well) to encode the small clip that I just posted above. Something about the way that I edited the MPEG seems to have altered the error. I might just be using a bad MPEG editor (I've been suspicious, but I'll get to that).

In order to cut out the small clip, I used Womble Multimedia's MPEG-VCR (v3.14). That's one of the few cheap applications out there I've found that will let you edit Program Stream MPEG-2 files with the audio track already muxed in. I belive Pegasys's TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2 (http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tme20.html) will do it too, but that's a little more expensive. Unfortunately, TMPGEnc itsef, and MPEG2Schnitt and Cuttermaran all can't handle the MPEG2 files that come out of BTV (I think because they're muxed MPG files).

I'd read postings here on Doom9 that MPEG-VCR does not re-encode the MPEG2 files you edit unless it has to. I've never been able to find that stated in it's documentation anywhere though! I do know that Womble's newer product (MPEG Video Wizard) does have this feature, but I didn't like it's interface (and I'd rather just cough up the money for TMPGEnc MPEG Editor). This result (and the fact that when the error actually occurs it is visibly different in the cut version I made vs. the original) makes me very suspicious that MPEG-VCR is actually re-encoding the video... Though it's pretty darn fast so I'm not positive.

So... Two questions:

1. Does anyone know for sure that MPEG-VCR does or does not re-encode video when you're simply snipping out chunks (to remove commercials or whatnot)? I've confirmed in other postings what I first read here that it does not, but perhaps it also tries to fix any errors or something...

2. Is there a better application that I could use that would more perfectly provide that piece of this video for you to analyze? The whole thing is almost 4 GB so sending it is obviously not possible.

buzzqw
25th October 2006, 17:43
i used both vcr and wvw and i prefer the wizard. as far as i know, and used, both do a direct stream copy of audio/video
I used mostly on ts source but i never got some serius problem with womble video wizard

Try loading the original (the big and broken) file with vcr and RE-EXPORT , without reencoding.
Then try to load this new file. I can beat that remuxing will fix the problem

BHH

glynor
25th October 2006, 20:02
That sure did fix it (I tried exporting the file using both MPEG-VCR and MPEG Video Wizard, which is growing on me a little). :D

I'm happy then. The only reason I was even trying to encode a raw recording off of BTV (without clipping out the stuff at the beginning and end) was to test AutoMKV out. In "real life" I'd never do that without first trimming the file in MPEG-VCR (or maybe the Video Wizard, we shall see). Since that should fix any little blips that might end up in my video files because of BTV (I should really switch back to SageTV one of these days), I'm not going to worry about it.

Oh, and thanks for the command line argument thing! That's been great (I have it defined as a Send to option in J. River Media Center now, which I use to manage all my media).

Again... I'm really quite impressed with all your work on this! I think it's going to definitely become my encoder of choice (MeGUI is good if you really want to "get in there", but the UI is terrible). Keep it up!

OK, I had no trouble with non 'movie' movie names when encoding directly, but if I tried to add a non 'movie' name to the queue, it didn't seem to work. I'll try again to confirm.

Another thing that's bugging me...the DVD rips of multi-episode shows that I have on my hard drive have a file structure like this:

VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_02_3.VOB
VTS_03_0.IFO
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_03_2.VOB
VTS_03_3.VOB

If I select any of the IFO files, it only allows me to choose the longest of the three episodes on the disc instead of any of them (only one entry is present in the pulldown menu). The only way I've found to circumvent this is to put the VTS_0x files in a separate directory before opening them with AutoMKV.

If I select any of the IFO files, it only allows me to choose the longest of the three episodes on the disc instead of any of them (only one entry is present in the pulldown menu).

let's me do some tests... :)

I'd been having a lot of trouble at home downloading AutoMKV over the past few days. The downloads would start fine, but would "end" well before they were finished (the "full" RAR file would end up only a few hundred K and wouldn't work of course). At first I assumed the problem was on "the other" end, but then when it worked for me on a different machine at work, but then again didn't work in the evening at home I got suspicious that the problem was at my end...

Well, I figured it out last night, and I thought I'd post it in case anyone else is having similar troubles. I have PeerGuardian 2 installed and running on that machine. I know it's not fully effective but its probably better than nothing and I hate having them "watch" me. Either way, it was causing the trouble. If I disabled it, the downloads were just fine. If I re-enabled it, they'd mess up again. (This was odd because I do not have HTTP blocking enabled, and the only list I have installed is the regular P2P blacklist.)

Just in case it's also related, I am using Firefox 2 (the final build for now until I start using nightlies again).

Sooooo... If you have PG2 and you can't download AutoMKV, try disabling it.

First of all, thanks for the amazing prog

second, the little problems i have:

1. on a dualcore, when encoding in x264 onlz 55% of the cpu is used! (using ce mainprofile) but 90% is used when using p1-maxspeed, is there any reason why this is like that?

2. could you make an option so that the dvd gets ripped first, and then ripps the subs? (so that the dvd only has to stay in the dvdrom for 15 mins =)

3. I cant remember since what version, but something after 38 wont let me rip the dvds anymore, if i put a dvd in, then check the dvd it finds the ifo file. I then select the language and start encoding, as shown on screenshot setup. After that, nothing really happens except dgindex gets started. In the log file it sais done ripping, but it hasnt done anything at all, goes straight away to dg index and stays like that forever. Well of course, no dvd was ripped.

4. Would be great if possible to safe the settings one makes in the advanced settings tab as well!

Thanks again!

Thanks again! 1> Well I have a D930 and I am always maxed out. However, I do run avisynth 2.60 alpha and maybe that makes a difference. Also, have you set threads to 2 in the profile?

As for the rip, I just did that today with 48a and it worked fine. Did you dl the whole 44 new package and update the exe to 48a, or did you just update the original 3x full package? You should have 5 files in C:\apps\AutoMKV044\exe\Vsrip plus any logs created.

i check for number of processor and put the adeguate --threads at x264 script. You can look in advance profile editing at "Command line:" the threads value are automatic and is the last value (no need to edit the profiles)

2. could you make an option so that the dvd gets ripped first, and then ripps the subs? (so that the dvd only has to stay in the dvdrom for 15 mins =)

is already as this. once the dvd is ripped the subs is processed from vobs laying on hd. You can open para.lst (open with notepad) for vsrip parameter

3. I cant remember since what version, but something after 38 wont let me rip the dvds anymore, if i put a dvd in, then check the dvd it finds the ifo file.

check if in \exe\vsrip folder there is DVDFabDecrypter.exe
The flow for dvd->mkv is:
1) insert dvd in drive
2) click on check dvd driver , after selecting the drive
3) choose audio/subs/media...
4) click start encoding

4. Would be great if possible to safe the settings one makes in the advanced settings tab as well!

i will look at this :)

Even after redownloading, the whole package, i have the same problem. The dvd is not ripped, it goes straight to dgindex and stops there. (like in the previous screenshot)

Also tried to delete all registry entries for dvdfab, but still doesnt work

When saving the options, the filtersettings arent saved either. Is there a point to have remove grain when ripping from a dvd?

(Note if i select the ifo file directly from the dvd, it works but it doesnt rip, just encodes straight away the audio and movie. The file one gets out of this is not usable though, as the dvd wasnt decoded in the first place)

would it be possible to make a 5min sample encoding of a movie? (so it only encodes 5mins of sound, subs and moviefile?)

would it be possible so it states the size of the audiostreams, subs and videostream crated in the log file?

if i select hq-slow profile, in the logfile it still states ce-mainprofile was selected, so which one does it really use? (see screenshots) (in the advanced setting tab hq-slow is in the profile though....

the x264.exe is still launched as a low priority process, maybe make it so one can set it themselves in the advanced settings tab what priority it should be?

if the finaly encoded mkv file is opened in core media player, it states that some mediastreams could not be rendered. I dont know which ones though, everything seems to work, any idea what it could be? or how i can find out what it is? the log file of cmp is below.

would it be possible to make a 5min sample encoding of a movie? (so it only encodes 5mins of sound, subs and moviefile?)

for movie, check "Last line avs script", and write "Trim(0,7500)"
audio ? interrupt the encoding, CTRL+C.
Subs ? no, not possible

Sorry crashed, not so easy.

would it be possible so it states the size of the autiostreams, subs and videostream crated in the log file?

Audio and video is already reported. only subs size is missing
"Only Movie Size:" and "Audio Size 1' Track:"

if i select hq-slow profile, in the logfile it still states ce-mainprofile was selected, so which one does it really use? (see screenshots) (in the advanced setting tab hq-slow is in the profile though....

hit "Reload profile" , even if on change of profile the adv prof. editing should change automatically...

At first I assumed the problem was on "the other" end, but then when it worked for me on a different machine at work, but then again didn't work in the evening at home I got suspicious that the problem was at my end...

I have always had this problem... sometimes it take me 4 or 5 times to get the whole file downloaded. I have traced it back to something on his servers end, not saying it's his server per-say but rather wherever it's hosted, and my ISPs ability to get there.

things seem to work fine now, 3 more sugestions i have:

1. would it be possible so it saves the last line avs script setting and the filters setting ?

2. would it be possible to encode a batch of files. I know that you can queue jobs but you have to open each file and set everything for it. lets say you have 50 episodes, is there a way to make it so it encodes all the episodes while just having to set the variables once and not 50 times?

3. For example in the german dvd "closer" it finds 2 german, 2 english and 1 turkish subtitles, in the final mkv file only 1 german 1 english and 1 turkish subtitle is playable, out of 5 listed. Any idea how to get rid of the other 2? Or could you make 4 subtitle tracks aviable so one can choose more than 2 but doesnt have to rip all the subs? This is also why core player comes with an error that some streams are unsupported (the error i talked about in my previous post), if i dont have those "fake subs" in the mkv file everything works fine.

Thanks,

DONE in 0.50 , also added to queue object (the last line)

mhh.. not so easy again, anyway only audio track/subs changes on input a new source file

the same file with mpc (with or without haali splitter) is ok ?

those subs are not "fake" but probably used in some angle.
In subs list only those in select pgc are show, rip all subs is to be used when 2 subs track aren't enough... i i think that 2 subs is usually enough... (but please report if this file is ok with mpc)

thanks you too

(this is the first build of 0.50 series, please be cautius, is a little more then a beta build)

and here the long awaited 0.50(d) series

now the good news

AutoMKV .5x includes new features for the quality oriented who want a crf based HQ encode in 1Pass, yet still want size control. As well, the new features provide those who want a high level of control with expanded features.

Quick start - Choose input and output, Choose Output file size, Choose the CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf) profile. Answer "Hit Media size" to the pop-up. In the advanced tab select "Allow multiple autoresize" and start encode (if you want more interaction with quality choose)

AutoMKV will sample the source to identify the level of compressibility. When "Allow multiple autoresize"is checked, the user will be presented with the suggested Resolution, CRF value to be used, and other information. If acceptable, press "No" to redo and the enclode will start. If the resolution and CRF value (crf values < 22 should be good with crf 18 being very good) are not to your liking, simply leave the pop-up as is, go to autoMKV and add more size, change matrix, add a filter, etc., then Click yes for redo. Process will repeat. When you are comfortable with the values presented, just press no and encode will proceed.

After the crf encode is completed, AutoMKV will trigger the 2nd pass only if the encode size is outside the values in MinSize Maxsize.

(ehi... don't be afraid there are always 2 pass encoding !)

and here the (big) changelog

FIXED: added sub size to log file
FIXED: lame encoding for second audio track
FIXED: better support for process.exe, no process.exe flash up more
FIXED: on avi source, copy original audio is no more allowed
FIXED: added "last line avs script" to save default

ADDED: log save both audio avs/batch files
ADDED: is now possible to select what CQM use in XivD
ADDED: a simple command line support. Create your setting (video codec, container , media size..)(use "Save Default") and give it a personalized name (es. 24hour.ini)
create a .bat file (within automkv directory) with this AutoMKV050d.exe 24hour.ini "C:\path\to\24h\test1.vob" 2 2 1 0 start
The "2 2 1 0 start" mean:
2 on first audio track choose second audio present
2 on second audio track choose second audio present
1 on first sub track choose first sub
0 on second sub track choose NONE to sub
start ... mmm ...let's start encoding ?
ADDED: language translate support. After choosing language (on advanced settings), click on save default and restart AutoMKV.
Use automkv.ita as reference. Name the language file to automkv.XXX where XXX is the ISO639-2 code of nation (better, look on advanced settings the code of your language)
ADDED: more accurate crf size prediction with conditional 2nd pass for automatic correction of oversize, undersize. Many high quality encodes will take just 1 pass. The conditional 2nd pass is only activated if size exceeds user set min/max values

@fogbav

what exactly is the syntax for cli ... i figured out that a can do an : AutoMKV049.exe c:\test.mpg

Thanks, buzzqw, always glad to help where I can. Seems to be working well on my first test.

The target was 1/4 dvd and the muxed file would have been 1,082,163,420 bytes so was about 96.07% of target size of 1,126,400,000
bytes. Not bad at all and I think a few more tweaks will come out soon to narrow it down. The 2nd pass was triggered because I left the Min too high [your setting]. More time, but the encode can only get better (fractionally).
Accepted values are between 1080 and 1105 mb
Got a file of size: 716.73 mb + audio size 314.61 mb
Switching to 2 pass mode
I can see where you may want to change the min-max to a percentage. I would be happy to accept an encode 5% small and trigger the 2nd pass if 1% too big. To do that now would need the settings changed in min/max - min at 1045 and max at 1111 for 1/4 DVD (right?). That is easy. What is not easy is doing it every single time a size target is changed. Would be a lot easier to put in 5% and 1% and be done with it. (or at least have the boxes autofilled with numbers based upon a user setting, ini setting, etc.)

Then you have the whole confusion thing between a KB and a MB - Might be better to stay with bytes as the log above is confusing, at least to me - Well I hope you will consider it.

Huge progress with this version! Very powerful with a lot of advanced features, yet still easy to get started with and use. That is not an easy task. Great job!

as i wrote... now automkv will un-hide and popup

prefer to end (kill) it ?

Yes ... kill would be perfect ... because my batch has to run all *.ts and *.mpg files in a special Dir and all subdirs ... (Streams from my Dboxes)

Your perfect logfile is telling my batch-script if something has gone wrong .. so a direct kill would be great ...

maybe you can implement a new switch in cli called "fullstop" ?

Hello buzzqw ,

if i want the original width of the source without resizing - is it the right setting to choose resizer : none - so no resize will happen ?

P.S: Thanks 4 the new version ... ! 8)

is it the right setting to choose resizer : none - so no resize will happen

exactly. you you choose NONE under resizer the movie will not processed for resize, only for filters (if used)

I think there is an little error in selecting XVID ... everytime i do a save (MP4/AVI Container with XVID) and reload automkv with automkv.ini the Profiles jumps back to H264 Profiles ....

Container Type mp4 (also saying in log file) on Xvid leads to Container AVI

Edit : It seems that automvk is killing the complete tmp folder INCLUDING the generated AVI File in XVID MODE... only deactivating del temp is saving the final file ... tested in cli mode ...

How about taking audio from .avs ?
It would be great to convert audio sources from 48kHz to 44,1kHz for encoding mp3...
And why if Audiotrack is wav or mp3 I should select the audio files again before encoding?

Hi All!
first post in this forum ever. Hope it works.

I have tried your program and it is very nice.
I have one question though about BAutoDeint.exe. When I check deint.log I see

Error: Error calling AVIStreamGetFrameOpen

Whts is wrong?

buzzqw
11th November 2006, 17:31
i can suppose you are encoding an avi file (since the error)
and since you not report the automkv.log... i can only argue what's wrong... (next time give more information..)

check the automkv.log , is reporting something about "Avi engage mode not corrected, switched to DirectShowSource" or "Avi engage mode not corrected, switched to AviSource" ?

also is frame.txt file created ?

and can you play this file with media player classic ?

and... even with the error is deint.log reporting at end file the deinterlace information ?

XviD_Extra_Slow.xml -> For extra compression and quality. Very Slow profile, two pass encoding
XviD_Fast.xml -> Fast, but good quality encoding. One pass encoding
XviD_Fastest.xml -> Fastest, not so good quality, but damned fast. One pass encoding
XviD_Normal.xml -> Good trade-off between time and quality. Two pass quality

In the CQ profile how do you change the quantizer value? It looks like the value that is passed to the coded (-cq 2.5 in the xvidsingle.bat) but the profile it looks like the quantizer is set to 3 <BitrateQuantizer>3</BitrateQuantizer>.

Also in the profile is says <MaxNumberOfPasses>2</MaxNumberOfPasses>. I thought the CQ mode only had one pass.

yep... quite an error. I get the value from "Use crf for AutoResize" ... will be fixed in next build ! thanks

this value is not parsed from any profile. CQ is ONE pass profile

I used to get this as well. I traced it back to something missing on the client. After I installed AutoGK (notypo, really, AutoGK) with the XVID library this went away.

I did some registry traces and there is some reference to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers\vidc.XVID

...that its looking for. Why, I dont know. I just know that when this stub appeared here, baudodeint.exe started working.

YMMV

I think something else may be wrong with the Xvid-CQ. I did a movie and was surprised that it was only 611Meg so I did the same movie with AutoGK, avi.net and MPEG Mediator with a quantizer of 2.5 and the movie size came out 825Meg, 818Meg and 829Meg; much bigger than the 2.5cq version of AutoMKS.

What should I look at to help you debug this?

btw: have you answered "Unlimited media size" or "Hit media size" ?... since is 611 mb +audio =~ 1CD

it's all ok (on automkv side). i can suppose that autgk use a different xvid configuration, maybe bquant_ratio (1.62) or BQuantOffset (1.00)...

Thanks, I will compare the quality of the encodes tonight and let you know the results.

Hi Buzz,

Just noticed a little "typo" in the audio encoder drop down options.

It currently says: WinAmp CCT. When I think it should say: WinAMP CT.

That said, seeing as though Coding Technologie's (500KB) AAC encoder is now named "enc_aacplus.dll", it might be okay to call it just "Coding Tech. AAC"

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4841/automkvmf7.png

By the way, Coding Technologie's AAC encoder offers both AAC-LC and AAC-HE encoding ;)

On the latest version it does not appear to be saving all the settings. For example if forgets that my audio codec is Lame, but it does remember the setting is 4 for the audio codec. It also forgets that I selected XviD, and the XviD-CQ profile and such.
