Hey Buzzqw.
I've got my hands on an anime dvd9 and it has 5 chapters on it bu automkv wont see them, it will recognize it as 1 2h movie.
What could be done here so that i can split it in episodes?
Since they're all registered as a single PGC... it might be a solution to use DVDDecrypter (http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/DVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe) (or equivalent) and rip the individual chapters... remember to rename the VOB and IFO alike...
I should add that I had no joy including subtitles in my encodes with this method...

The epis aint in separated vobs. Each vob has 19min of video and each episode has over 25. That is the problem. :S
Btw, Automkv has decided i have to use a bitrate of 131 but i want something a bit higher like 636 ^_^
I tried changing filesize but that just wont work, i tried in use last line command adding a --bitrate 636 but didnt work either, what can i do?
This dvd is driving me mad :S

also... could be a problem of size of AUDIO ...
--bitrate 636
much simplier... in advanced settings check "Specify bitrate" :)

Sorry for the newbish question but is it possible to construct a MPEG-4 SP profile from one of the existing XviD profiles in AutoMKV as they are MPEG-4 ASP is it just a matter of editing a profile to disable certain features ?
If anyone has already made such a profile and would share it I would very much appreciate it or does one of the existing XviD profiles already fulfil this ?

Chapters are a subset of a PGC... you could only have 1 PGC but several chapters relating to each episode.
This has no bearing on the size of individual VOB's

.... perhaps if you set your output destination to someplace else you'll only have to authorize them once, since then the temp folder will overwrite itself everytime and the filepath for the VBS scripts wont change, keeping them on Norton's Whitelist (if it has a permanent whitelist, that is).
That seemed to work to stop nortons from appearing.Thanks.
Now a different problem. After trying to play a recently encoded WMV file with Windows media player, I get an error of, CAVIStreamSynth: System exception - Access Violation at 0x0,reading from 0x0.
See Log
Thanks,so thats why the audio doesnt get merged because nortons is stopping it?
Yes.
Also why is Norton not a good AV.
Norton AV is an example of software that used to be real good but isn't anymore. Peter Norton hasn't written any code for it in years. Nowadays, Norton AV is more known for taking up excessive system resources, being hard to control (poor UI), not "disabling" completely when you think it is, and being hard to remove easily without hosing your system, or having it hose your system for you at some point on its own.
Isn't it just doing its job by alerting me of a script?
I think this is one of those grey areas where we expect the software to be a little bit "smarter" and not give false positives or get in the way when we are trying to get work done.
I think the idea here s
In my version of Nortons(2002) there is an option to turn off script blocking i'll try that but won't that expose me to potential harmful scripts?
Yes and yes. Security is always a trade off between safety and convenience. I would personally not be hugely worried about malicious VB scripts though.
that's quite old, i suggest to upgrade to 2007
Norton has made quite strong progress
I would disagree. The problem is it is the newer versions (like >2004) that are the ones causing the most problems with corrupting systems. I had 2002 and I just kept buying renewals for my subscription (not upgrading) which would seem silly to most people because Symantec was only charging USD$5 more for an upgrade to the current verses a plain sub renewal. Then one year, I was told Symantec was no longer supporting NAV 2002. The only thing I could do was upgrade. And (big shocker here :rolleyes:) the $5-over-sub-renewal upgrade price was no more. They wanted $69 :eek: to upgrade now! Well, I could have gone online and bought a boxed copy of the current Norton AV for $19.95 or even free some places when they have specials, but I was sick of having to pay a yearly fee for protection from Microsoft's lousy security standards, so I downloaded AVGFree, and it worked fine for me overall.
But then, I am not your average internet user (I do tech support for a cable internet company). I think it would work for most users who down download and install stupid crap all the time. I only use Sophos now because its free.

Hey, he's having the same issue I was having with Bleach!
Go to advanced settings, change the Deinterlacer from "Auto" to "Decimating" and Field Order to "TFF" and see if that works. You might want to try making a D2V of a short period of time (3-5 minutes) of a high action scene to test it out.
I haven't caught the last episode of Eureka Seven yet, I have it on tape here (just got back from a trip).
Edit: Oh wait, I wasn't reading closely enough. Are you talking about the black border at top and left edge. That could require manual cropping to remove. I thought you were talking about the interlace effects.

i working even as security expert and can assure that norton 2007 is a good av, not so heavy and good at detection... stay away from norton 360 or corporate edition below 11...

You might consider using the CQ-CRF profile... which will give you a consistent result rather than squeezing 1 episode and over-compensating on another...
<BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer>
18 is pretty much the best quality while 22 is less... downto 30 and so on... It only entails 1 pass which should save on time-to-experiment...

There goes another issue.
When i was getting the frames for the episodes, i made the d2v and opened it with megui script creator so that the preview video frame would show in that screen it says to me that the last frame from episode 01 is 42768 but when i finished encoding it with automvk i noticed that 42768 is recognized as 30min of video.
How come this mismatch would occur? Is there any way for me to verify the frames for the epis on automkv to make a correct trim cut?
NVM, just figured a way to solve it with DVD Decrypter.

Can AutoMKV rip the same audio track twice...
I like to pass-through the original AC3 5.1 surround audio track but often a stereo-only version, sounds better and louder, on a stereo system.
I haven't tried this but could AutoMKV pass through (copy original) the main track and under 2nd audio track, convert the same track to stereo-mp4 aswell... and then mux both into the final movie ?

where do you see this information ???
if you feed a d2v file of 42768 frames you will got 42768 frames encoded... BUT if you decimate your file to 23.976 you will got a 29min.42sec encoded file, and this is correct
let's automkv mux and check the syncro!

No need to thank me. I was having the same problem (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=990757#post990757) about three pages here before you showed up and wizboy11 helped me out.
As for CQ-CRF, i was using it since the begining because i wanna backup the episodes so i can get that damn 9gb vobs outta my HD fast ^_^
Use the rip by chapter option delacroixp mentioned earlier. I just take the DVD and watch it, flipping between chapters to count which ones make up an episode. Then by ripping by chapter you can get just the chapters you need for a certain episode, saving disk space.
Anyways, i used dgindex to get the frames for each episode :P
I was setting start and endpoints based on cells as I didn't need to look at frames then. The begining of one cell would be the start of the episode, and the end of another cell later would make up the end of the episode. Oh, and I do NOT recommend putting the VOB's on an external drive. I tried that and had trouble with the drive letter changing between encoding sessions.
most of this interlace issue will be resolved with the new preview panel. In preview panel both filters and deinterlacer requested are applyed. So you will see if the deinterlacer is correct or not
Awesome. I didn't know interlacing would be covered in this, too.

I just tried the preview function. The "buffering" message should not be a button since it it not a user selectable element. Also, there should be a cancel feature on it. The input I gave was not readable (said it had some error on line 41) and now I seem to be stuck. The preview window is still open and says buffering, but I cannot close it (no close box) and I cannot cancel it.
So went back to AutoMKV's window and picked an IFO source (instead of D2V). It opened a new preview window (old one is still there) and I'm getting the same error I think:

Very interesting. I reinstalled AVISynth and the preview pane worked for the first D2V file I tried after launching AutoMKV again. But subsequent tries and it is failing again. I tried quitting and restarting AutoMKV but it is still failing.

I'm encoding a BBC WW II, documentary on Hiroshima.
It's got 3 extras listed in a 3rd PGC or IFO... but if I load the IFO, AutoMKV reverts to the main IFO... in other words it refuses to load 'VTS_03_0.IFO' ... (the 1st IFO is empty at [00:00:0])
If I rip the individual chapter... DVD Decrypter strips off the header packets and I can no longer encode the subtitles...
I love subtitles... what do you suggest... ???

I can only play the wav file from the temp folder with winamp.
Media player classic and virtual dub will not play it.
When I try to play it in virtual dub the error says "it cannot detect the file type"
Audiograbber can't convert it,neither can Easy CD-DA Extractor.
It seems that the wav file that was created in the temp folder isn't a true wav I guess.

Out of curiosity, why do you use the Color Matrix script that you use?
"Rec.709->Rec.601",
Why not "Rec.601->Rec.709"?
Isn't the latter (601->709) suppose to be the one used when you convert a DVD to a mpeg4 file?
Just wondering. I suppose I should have asked way back when I suggested the "no color matrix" thing, but to be honest I really had no idea what each color matrix script did. :p :)
BTW, I like the preview file thing. Nice feature. A tad sluggish though when a video is playing. What about an option to hear the audio during playback too (even though it really wouldn't matter) :p

I don't know if there is any point... you wouldn't be 'cropping' or otherwise making any changes in realtime that would be in any way observable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observable).

I had initially tried that but with bad results as the video was stretched to the wrong proportions and not at all like the MeGUI version.
After more testing today I eventually realised I had to use the manual resize/crop option (no automatic/autocrop) then forcing the ITU resize to 16:9 PAL gets me similar results to MeGUI, so it seems to be working out now.

Great shot, though the AutoMKV version could do with a little more cropping on the left... and you are probably aware of the 'save image' and 'save thumbnail' option in Media Player classic'... VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) has the option to save a (lossless) PNG snapshot which can be usefull for fine detail comparisons...
It could also help with your DAR calculations... according to SeeMoreDigital and Aspect Ratio Signalling (ARS) Calculation Tool (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=107039) ...

After encoding a test episode of a TV show DVD set I've ripped off my discs (in individual episodes folders) then queuing up all the episodes to run overnight, I've encountered a problem.
I'm telling AutoMKV to make a MP4 file, fixed file size, yadda yada. The video encoded perfectly, and the FIRST time, the audio too. I am using the Nero AAC codec. The episode I did manually generated a 15 MB .MP4 file which sounds perfect, and it integrated into the final video file just fine.
The second one (the first in the queue of 22 more episodes) did a perfect job yet again for video, but the audio is now only an 880 kb file!! I can re-run the .bat file for mkvmaudio and it regenerates exactly the same tiny file every time with no errors. I've checked the "fixed1.ac3" file that it's reading from, and it sounds perfect in VLC. Does anyone know what the heck is going on here?
I've tried opening the mkvmaudio.avs file in Media Player and/or VirtualDub, but all it seems to do is start the encoding again (launching AVISynth!) and plays nothing except a loud 'snap' at the beginning for the ~22 minutes of the audio file.

I certainly did... and it's concise, precise and very well articulated...
My father was a jewellery wholesaler before he passed away in '99 and my mum, being a very earthy person enjoyed working in the garden... She could never understand why he consistently refrained from mowing the lawn...
He simply said, 'it was better to pay someone to mow the lawn so that he could spend more time runnning the business and use the time more productively' ...
My computer science professor (Latin: "one who claims publicly to be an expert") enjoyed saying that 'life is about priorities... if your project is late, possibly because of more important matters or subjects, then 10% off per day' ... It was quite an eye-opener since you have the choice to choose your direction and to decide what you are actually doing on this little planet of ours and what is most important to you... life is too short to be living someone else's dream...
We focus and become experts in our field... which is perhaps better than everyone becoming equally expert/clueless about everything/nothing...
It's not unheard of that certain people have no idea of how a car actually works and can't even change a tire... with even less inclination to learn or even to be interested... or for that matter, there being more than just a few adults in New York, not even having a drivers licence... which is good !
You really don't want too many experts in the kitchen anyway... Those who are talented and interested should be encouraged to read further, write their own software, study software engineering and attend university to design micro-chips, OS's and computer systems...
Teamwork is a good thing while it works...

anyway, here another small annoyance ;): I've created a new XviD profile named Xvid_SAP_2.xml "forked" from Xvid_SAP.xml; now, when I re-launch AutoMKV and re-load custom settings, on "basic settings" tab I see "mine" profile is selected (Xvid_SAP_2.xml) BUT switching to "advanced settings" tab shows me XviD_Normal.xml's content inside text-area and "command line" params are in agreement of that.
hitting "reload profile" corrects both.

The wav file produced when I let Automkv do the whole process is about 2.02 GB (2,172,629,080 bytes) in size.
The wav file produced when I run the DGIndex program that is within the Automkv folder turns out to be 1.01 GB (1,086,314,540 bytes).

@sunflash10
YOU are right!
when checked cartoon mode in xvid is used both cartoon mode AND greyscale !
Fixed in next update! Thanks!
@wizboy11
from colormatrix readme...
The reason this is useful is that MPEG-2 streams typically use Rec.709, whereas most computer software (XviD/DivX decoders, etc...) assumes Rec.601. Thus, if you take an MPEG-2 stream using Rec.709 and pass it as YUV to a decoder which upsamples to RGB using Rec.601 the colors will be slightly off. In this case, you could use ColorMatrix to convert the video from Rec.709 to Rec.601 and then pass it to the decoder.

The only cartoon I've encoded to date is The Aristocats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Aristocats), though my nephews are nuts about Bleach and DragonballZ.
While The Aristocats is pretty old (1970)... animations are now, perhaps, more popular than ever before... mostly on TV I guess...
I suppose, true 3D computer animations, like Shrek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek) and Shrek2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek2) are the next step... with the possibility for absolute photo-realism...

buzzqw, it says no audio stream found, which is odd, due to the fact i can use AC3 (i.e. Copy original).
EDIT: and i was able to use LAME in previous 0.81b.

please REDOWNLOAD the http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV083b.exe
this will fix the file size... and i hope audio problems !
BHH
I think you've done it!!
I haven't completed the whole encode,but I stopped it early.
The wav file in the temp folder can now be played with MPC and Virtual dub.
But more importantly the WMV file now has audio.:thanks:
I will finish the whole encode and post back but I think it will be fine.Thanks again.

Nah, lets leave it the way it is and change the label to "Olde Timey Cartoon". :D
I was just wondering what your graphic design skills are like and whether you draw your own cartoons... ???
Perhaps we could create an AutoMKV logo... somehow incorporating Auto into
http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/Logos/Matroska_logo.png . . . and . . . http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/Logos/x264_fire.gif
without the logo looking too cluttered...

You're quite right... though I'm quite keen to include an AutoMKV logo on my DVD backups... which is perhaps, a more sophisticated, subtle and classy means to get PayPal contributions and sponsorship... everything helps.

First time user in avi mode (xvid) and choosing SAP.
I made a small test and regarding SAP compatibility I don't understand few things regarding output:
- why is AVI V1.0 and not V2.0?
- SAP doesn't like interleave greater than 1 vid frame
Can you make in SAP mode the output to be AVI V2.0 and interleave to be always 1 vid frame? Also I think this settings to be in all avi modes, not only in SAP. I don't know for what is good AVI V1.0 or interleave greater than 1 vid frame.
In many encodes I see Interleave: 1 vid frame (42ms), preload 480. And with this values I have never problems on standalone players.
enjoy,

@Mtz
about avi1, avi2
from changelog of 0.78
ADDED: In XviD profiles added a new option <muxing> (if used only for avi container). This option can be valorized as: <muxing>auto</muxing> or <muxing>avi10</muxing> or <muxing>opendml</muxing>. On auto will be AutoMKV to select the better muxing, on avi10 will be forced the AVI 1.0 mux, on opendml will be forced OpenDML muxing
so i suggest to edit the xml profiles
about - SAP doesn't like interleave greater than 1 vid frame
i hanven't sap (but htpc) so... i don't know
avimux_gui suggest to use 3 frames and 200 as preload :confused: ... i don't know...

I encoded Blade Trinity last night and I had a few issues...
1) The 'Rip all audio tracks' dissapeared... so I ripped 2 + 2 + 1 and muxed them manually... what happened... ???
It's got 3 Main tracks... AC3 stereo, AC3 5.1 surround and DTS 6.1 surround... I've been 'keep original' audio tracks but I'ld prefer to convert to MP4a...
How do you manually convert to MP4 surround and how can I convert DTS 6.1 surround to MP4 6.1 surround... ??
2) I made an image of Blade... but when I encode, it rips the entire movie again (from the image) and then also does a direct copy of the movie aswell... eventually I've got 3 versions of the movie on the HDD which can get a bit scary when HDD space gets a bit low...
However, even the time factor is irksome... what do you suggest... ?

after 250 post you don't know how to post a problem ? :rolleyes:
"All audio tracks" is present and fuctional
How do you manually convert to MP4 surround and how can I convert DTS 6.1 surround to MP4 6.1 surround... ??
you can use automkv. as input file load (one at time) these ac3/dts and configure audio as you want, then click start
using belight/behappy could be even a better solution
I made an image of Blade... but when I encode, it rips the entire movie again (from the image)
since you have already ripped it there is no need to use "check drive"... simply mount the image and with automkv point at the ifo inside the image
and then also does a direct copy of the movie aswel
you could have used the "Use this pgc", this fuction will create a copy of the pgc selected. This fuction isn't to use if you have only ONE movie
BHH
P.S. @SeeMoreDigital: in next update will return the possibility to use CCT AAC as multichannel encoder

possibility to use CCT AAC as multichannel encoder
the bad news is that i must before "decode" to wav the file (5.1ch, dlp,stereo.. mono) and then use this wav to feed CCT AAC encoder
just a little slower :(

What if there was a checkbox that could be turned on and would restrict what values could be used, and it had a drop down menu for selecting MOD2/4/8/16?
Very nice idea...
I've just finished encoding Blade Trinity - Extended version (with 6 audio tracks including AC3 [surround + stereo] and DTS 6.1 surround)... and I'm busy with the Theatrical version (a bit shorter) with MP4 stereo (incl 2-channel directors commentary)...
This is one of those cases that I've done something 'legal' but still wrong.
I cropped Top=70, Bottom=72 and set Height=432 with anamorphic DAR=1024x434... but AutoMKV has forced the encode to 720x434 which isn't quite MOD16...
Sometimes I forget about the resize filter and all hell breaks loose while this time, the figures were sufficiently correct to fall through the cracks...
I'm sure a MOD16/8/4 tickbox system would negate this kind of insiduous error...
:):D:eek:
Pascal
btw
Blade extended version is also 720x434... is there no way to encode at 432 with 70 & 72 cropping... which is a kinda reverse anamorphic encode based on height ???

buzzqw, any chance you could add minimize to system tray option for AutoKMV and related programs (such as DGIndex etc) for next version release?
Thanks!

Blade Trinity has cropping Top=70 and Bottom=72...
Is there any way to encode at 720x432 and then force anamorphic muxing to 1024x434... in other words, to expand it horizontally and vertically...

I was reading through the changelog and in 0.83 it says
FIXED: In Crop settings "Check Values" and "Preview" are valorized only if input file is present
I'm not 100% sure what this means but I tried encoding a movie on 'Creation Science Evangelism'.
It's a 640x480 movie with cropping L=6 and R=8
To keep with MOD16 I let width=624 but set encode as anamorphic with DAR=628x480 ...
AutoMKV does not like this and insists on encoding at 720x...
THEN I tried a straight encode with width=624 (hoping to re-mux with MkvMerge)... and all hell broke loose... since, I suppose, (624+14) NOT= 640 .
Perhaps our own stupidity is making fools of us all.

Makes sense... I'm hardly an experienced user, but safeguards like protection against odd-cropping is desirable while maintaining flexibillity to do the really 'kewl stuff' that MKV was designed to support...
Obviously being able to do these things in a safe environment... like kids at playschool... would probably be best...

I tried again with 0.80 and all is good... though I didn't try 624 anamorphic...

hi, i am new to AutoMKV (so new that i haven't encoded anything with it yet) however if someone may help on a 'video quality' issue.
i have been using Gordian Knot to date and have found a very useful reading to be the 'bits/pixel x frame'. I am not familiar with the 'profiles' for x264 in MKV container, and hence am not sure as to what the final file size should be for a chosen quality. with Gordian Knot all i had to do was keep the figure to approx 0.25 for good results.
does Automkv have this readout/function somewhere ? (and in my ignorance cannot see it) or can it be included in future revisions. also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.
thanks.

I'm pretty new myself and have only been encoding with AutoMKV for about 6 weeks... I have never used Gordian Knot though I did try BPP (bits per pixel) a few times with Dr (http://labs.divx.com/DrDivX) DivX (http://sourceforge.net/projects/drdivx/)...
I don't know whether you ever tried constant quality with Virtual Dub but it takes out much of the guesswork and better deals with the huge variety of movie-material, resolutions and framerates...
I regularly use the ConstantQuality-CRF which has a default setting of 18 (pretty much standard best quality). You can manually change the <BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer> upwards (ie 20, 22...) for smaller filesize (lesser quality).
Welcome to the best H264 GUI around...

i have been using Gordian Knot to date and have found a very useful reading to be the 'bits/pixel x frame'.
the bits/pixel * frame formula is not to use since it is only a number that cannot analyze the full film with all scenes
moreover with x264 this muber is more useless
I am not familiar with the 'profiles' for x264 in MKV container, and hence am not sure as to what the final file size should be for a chosen quality.
i undestand you problems, the x264 profiles need a serius rewritten, i suggest to use the Encoding-Baseline (fast speed and normal quality), Encoding-MainProfile (normal speed and good quality) and the Encoding-HighProfile (slow speed and very good quality)
or can it be included in future revisions.
i doubt... but...
also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.
automkv profiles are based on SharkTooth profile, search on Mpeg4 AVC forum

thanks alot guys.
Hi all,
Im new to using AutoMKV. I have been trying to use it to encode MP4/AVC for my PS3.
I keep getting an error when trying to play in my PS3: "Unsupported File". (Im pretty sure thats the message).
Would anyone know what settings I can use to make a PS3 compliant MP4?
Also Im having an issue with AutoMKV DeInterlacing my Anime DVD's.
I've tried using Auto, Film, and Progressive. Yet I still have the horizontal lines with fast motion or flashing lights in my Anime encodes.
Other than that, Incredible program.
Also, would anyone know of a guide to better explain some of the options?
I kinda fell of the DVD encoding now that I bought DVDRebuilder.

Hi esso !
i haven't a ps3 so my test is quite limited... but now i have you for test! :)
i will look deeply to this ps3 issue... so stay tuned for next update (if you allow i will link for donwload some sample to test playback...)
Also Im having an issue with AutoMKV DeInterlacing my Anime DVD's.
try using Auto e checking Allow Hybrid Pattern
also post a sample (cut it with dgindex) for analyzing

I'm already at work so it will take a while for me to test the sample but by this time tomorrow I will post back
afaik the hope to find a de-re muxing solution hasn't worked for anyone. it seems that the high profile / level qualities of the mp4s yield files that cannot be played on the ps3. matter of fact, one of redkawa's posts over at his/her site says that the culprit is mainly the profile.

hi, i am new to AutoMKV (so new that i haven't encoded anything with it yet) however if someone may help on a 'video quality' issue.
i have been using Gordian Knot to date and have found a very useful reading to be the 'bits/pixel x frame'. I am not familiar with the 'profiles' for x264 in MKV container, and hence am not sure as to what the final file size should be for a chosen quality. with Gordian Knot all i had to do was keep the figure to approx 0.25 for good results.
does Automkv have this readout/function somewhere ? (and in my ignorance cannot see it) or can it be included in future revisions. also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.
thanks.
If you have a lot of size flexibility, try using crf instead. Even if you don't, the crf profile comes with comp check that autosizes the video based on your settings. That's a much more reliable way than basing the decision on a single number that has very limited bearing on reality, since it actually tests the content of the video.

Im onboard for testing, but Im at work at the moment. When I get home I will test right away.
Oh yeah, I did fix the Deinterlace issue, I set it to Film and used the Hybrid option.

I used to use Redkawa's PS3 converter, but found that I needed more functionality for my encodes, especially since I watch Anime with Japanese Audio and Eng Subs. I needed a method to burn the subtitles in.
The PS3 as of yet, does not support subtitles within a container.

I just played the clip you posted and it worked fine in my PS3!
Can you elaborate on what settings you used and maybe give me some tips.
Like I said, Im still new to this and I have alot of Anime DVD's I would like to convert to use on the PS3.
Im still unsure on what settings to use. Like for example the default filter selected when you startup is RemoveGrain(mode=2).
Should I use something like MipSmooth(preset = "AnimeHQ") for my Animes?
Thanks!!

that's good! thanks!!!
Can you elaborate on what settings you used and maybe give me some tips.
on previus page there are the command line i used to encode and mux, AND in next update i will include the PS3 profile for x264!
Like for example the default filter selected when you startup is RemoveGrain(mode=2).
removegrain is a general denoise filter, applyed in very light mode, in license.txt there are all the link to homepage of filters
Should I use something like MipSmooth(preset = "AnimeHQ") for my Animes?
mipsmooth is a good filter too! and the preset for High Quality Anime could denoise in proper way a good anime.
Is a little slow compared to removegrain but is more tuned for this kind of footage.
You can also try convolution3d and the anime (low quality/bad quality/high quality) preset
i can only suggest to try and try because all anime needs its proper filter and obviusly not always the same filter! :)
Use the search button of this great forum, anime and filter are your key for search!
thanks again!

Okay, last question:
x264.exe --pass 1 --bitrate 543 --stats ".stats" --ref 0 --no-b-adapt --progress --keyint 250 --bframes 1 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --no-psnr --trellis 1 --filter 0,0 --subme 6 --direct auto --vbv-maxrate 10000 --me umh --no-ssim --level 30 --no-cabac --weightb --b-rdo --bime --analyse p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,p4x4 --threads 3 --output NUL "movie.avs"
How do I input this command line into AutoMKV, or is this the default for Encoding-MainProfile?
foxyshadis
17th May 2007, 02:32
Every option corresponds to a profile option. Pick a profile and open the advanced profile editor, then see if you can pick out which options go with what. That command line is a little messy though - ref 0 is impossible (will default to 1), p4x4 shouldn't be allowed in level 3.0, and without cabac there's no trellis. But here's the profile, made with MeGUI, that you can just paste in:
(....)
This may not be the same as buzzqw's upcoming on, so rely on his, not mine. :p If you have the inclination, you might mess with the options to see if it's possible to raise any of the options, especially the references, or look at ps3 forums to see what it can handle.

That way I do not have to encode a complete movie for testing purposes.
Thanks!

If you still have the IFO file associated with the vob you can use dvdshrink.
Just load the ifo and choose reauthor and then select the start and end frames.

2 easy way
1) start dgindex, load one of your vob file, using [ and ] select your section, then use File-> Save Project and Demux Video.
2) use a splitter like http://www.64k.it/andres/data/j/jsfs.exe
i suggest the first way
about subs... if extracted as .sub/.idx. you must trim manual.. better to ocr it and trim later

Great stuff and a good start... getting it right is key.
Anamorphic encoding is the real basis of most movies, directly or indirectly... even modern movies utilize anamorphic parameters, for eg, 1440x1080 (16:9) which upscales to 1920x1080 DAR...

I merely take the values that x264 dumps at the end of the encodes.
I did download MSU's tool, but haven't yet gotten around to use it. Time's the problem, as always. (it's why we're all spending small fortunes on ever-faster CPUs ???? ;-)

If you're resizing, Limitedsharpen uses Lanczosresize internally, so you can have limitedsharpen resize the video (dest_x,dest_y) for you instead of you having to manually invoke lanczosresize.

one only answer: DGINDEX
seems that latest dgdecode.dll has some problems on some pc... on dgindex 1.4.9 thread several users complain
please download this http://www.64k.it/andres/data/d/dgmpgdec148.zip
put dgindex.exe and dgdecode.dll in \exe\dgindexAND dgdecode.dll in \exe\filter

I'm trying to use this tool to backup my DVDs to AVI and keep getting an audio synch issue...Not sure the problem..
I've tried several settings from 1/3 DVD to 2GB target size...
Same issue. I've included a log file.
Any suggestions since I prefer to backup via AVI vs. ISO.

@Buzzqw
thanks for the prompt answer, I copied the dgindex folder form .83 and put the dgdecode.dll in /filters, and indeed it fixed the problem.
on a whim i decided to try the VC 6 build of DGMPGDec 1.4.9 (http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec149vc6.zip)
and it works too...
However when disabling delaycut automkv pops up a "audio was not encoded properly" error, no matter which build of dgindex. 0.83a did not have that issue.

The x264 command prompt does not show anything with 0.84a, when previously (0.84 and below) it showed stuff like fps and time remaining. x264 also hangs after a few minutes (I can not see the movie.mp4 file increasing in size).
I tried running just the 0.83a executable with the 0.84 package w/ dgindex 1.4.9 VC6 and it runs fine. so does 0.84 if delaycut is enabled.
also, the all profiles checkbox on the basic settings tab does not stay checked when settings are saved.

I've noticed that when I encode with AutoMKV, both MediaInfo & Gspot cannot read the audio - video bitrate of the file.
MediaInfo only shows overall (video+audio) bitrate in "text" mode.
Where can that be attributed to? Is it the mkv container that is not well supported, or somehow AutoMkv does not "register" that information in the file?
This is not of course a serious matter...

well i use the official mkvmerge... so could be a issue of those programs
i suggest to use Avinpatic http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123076 a true excellent program for analyzing mkv, avi or mp4 files... with support to x264 also!

I am trying to convert a movie from MP4 to AVI(xvid) two pass, it quits stuffs up right when running this file muxing.bat. It says AVImux_Gui experienced a problem and will close. Please help.

sometimes seems avimux_gui is a little picky...
often is due to antivirus... or other running programs..
i suggest this secure procedure: load your file, set your options AND before click start encoding go to Advanced settings and check "Use FFmpeg Mux"
then start your encode :)

I hope in a future release to allow using virtualdubmod instead of avimux at least when creating avi (xvid) files.
Here is described one problem with the standalone: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1005791#post1005791
Avimux is not good for SAP. The xvid sap profile is useless if using avimux.

Great program buzzqw, really. Thanks.
But I have 2 little issues/questions:
1. It seems to me (I'm a novice to this) that DGIndex is detecting wrong framerates. For example I have a DVD here which is PAL and DGIndex is detecting a framerate of 25.000 and thus Automkv uses 25fps. BUT the resulting encode isn't "fluent", meaning pan shots are choppy. And if I play the DVD in WMP 11 and choose "statistics" the player says: "Frame rate: 25fps" and "Actual frame rate: 24,4fps". When using MPC to play it, the VideoMixing Renderer says something about an avarage framerate of ~24,4 in the beginning and is increasing _slowly_ to 24,93 after 4 minutes, 24,97 after 8 minutes and then I aborted this. I have no idea what's the meaning of this, but maybe you do.
2. I'm a little bit confused about the deinterlacing. Is there any particular deinterlacingalgorithm you would recommend? And what would be the wisest choice to choose if the deint Test detects that ~half the frames are progressive and ~half are deinterlaced and ~half of them are BFF and the other half TFF?

dgindex detects the framerate written in mpeg file.. so blame the encoder... or better.. who have done that messy...

ouch.. post a fragment in avisynth usage forum... and search for help!
probably a hybrid approach is the way.. but .. post your sample :)

What kind of movie is it?
I've gotten that sometimes. Most of the time you just need to use the Decimating filter and see if that works. From experience, AutoMKV doesn't detect this very well (sorry buzzqw).
Anime uses this, and so do some movies that were upconverted from 24fps progressive (or 23.97fps) to 29.97fps interlaced. (3:2)
Open up the original video in MPC or something were you can step frames (and that hasn't gone through any deinterlacing). Step a few frames. If some are progressive (has no interlacing lines) and some are interlaced (you'll see it) then you need decimating, which I believe is called 3:2 pulldown.

Sorry for being a newbie here, just literally installed the great software and was checking out the Wiki page. At the very bottom of the MT section, there is an update that makes it sound like there is no need for the script to be used anymore to get Dual Core speeds, is this correct ? I have downloaded version 0.84, does this mean I no longer need to update the software to make use of the extra speed with my E6400 Dual core with 2gb ram ? Thanks.

no, i never included MT avisynth build.
I can only suggest to check your CPUs usage, if over 80% (for all cpus) then MT isn't needed... if not.. use the MT approach

I am trying to convert mkv and avi (Xvid) files to WMV. That works fine, but I can't get 5.1 audio. I press the exclamation marks, then choose audio codec: WMAPRO and Channels: 6, but the output audio is always WMA2 and 2-channel. BTW, I press WVC1_1_Pass_CBR profile first, then edit the audio.
How do I sort this out?
And the video filters, do you reccomend using it? The source is HD x264 files, and I don't think they need touching up, so left it as NONE. Will I see any benefit using it, and how much longer will it take to encode say using "RemoveGrain(mode=2)"

I am having an issue with Automkv where every file i try to convert to Avi(xvid), what it does is it converts the audio just fine but when it goes to convert video it just skips that part and goes staight to muxing. when it uses avi synth it just crashes, and when i tell it to use ffmpeg mux it just spits out file a little bigger then sorce audio file that won't play. All the sorces files i have used converted just fine in MkvMagic but i wanna use something that will allow them to batch encode.

How do I sort this out?
actually you cannot. Sorry.
the current workflow and avisynth don't support well the 5.1 output. maybe with avisynth 2.58 the waveextendedformat will be fixed.
Will I see any benefit using it, and how much longer will it take to encode say using "RemoveGrain(mode=2)"
filters isn't always needed. If your sorce is clean and don't need more compression ... don't apply it. The cpu used by removegrain is small... not more than 5%

When I start encoding, and then for some reason turn off this process (for example I’ve forgot to do smth), then, if even I restart program, and start encoding it will convert audio but DOS windows with 1 and 2 pass video encoding will open for 1 sec and the close. To solve this problem I have to restart PC. Here is LOG http://vorob2.nm.ru/VTS_02_0.IFO.log

maybe the file isn't deleted when the new encoding start, because are locked by OS...
try empting the \temp folder manually before start a new encoding
i don't think is a issue of automkv... since after rebooting all is ok...

did that and its still skiping video encode as you can see from this log it finishs the audio then where its supposted to do video and where it tries to mux and all that stuff shows the same time in the log because it just went from audio to muxing with out any kind of video encode poping up.

actually you cannot. Sorry.
the current workflow and avisynth don't support well the 5.1 output. maybe with avisynth 2.58 the waveextendedformat will be fixed.
Thanks, so no 5.1 with WMV :(
My source video size was 1280x720, and left the resolution to original, but it came out as 1280x707.
Here it is from the log:

Sorry for being a newbie here, just literally installed the great software and was checking out the Wiki page. At the very bottom of the MT section, there is an update that makes it sound like there is no need for the script to be used anymore to get Dual Core speeds, is this correct ? I have downloaded version 0.84, does this mean I no longer need to update the software to make use of the extra speed with my E6400 Dual core with 2gb ram ? Thanks.
The update thing I just put there because I changed around with the script a little bit. Instead of putting SetMTMode(2) and then closing it at the bottom with SetMTMode(0), and wrap the individual filters with MT().
Instead I decided to try just putting SetMTMode(2, 0) in the beginning and not closing it out. That way, everything below the SetMTMode gets multi-threaded, even if you use filters through AutoMKV (which previously didn't work).
If your finding it confusing then just skip MT all together. It's unstable and can crash (often, but I'm trying around with different scripts, older ones, newer ones, they all seem to crash eventually, I just pick the one that crashes the least).
There's a funny story to this too. I was encoding a hour long movie with a pretty complicated avisynth script. Took an hour for the first pass, and was ~95% done with the second pass (which had been running for a few hours), then it crashed on me :p.
The speed improvment really isn't that great. At most your shaving off a few minutes on simple scripts, maybe a little more on more complicated ones.

It just doesn't read and parse the entire file right now, which you have to do to separate their bitrates. zenitram has wanted to extend mkv support for a while, but since it's a low priority, it probably won't happen until someone else does it.

On Vista, in general settings do not often stick. For instance, when I add a job to the queue and begin the job from there, suddenly the profile changes back to the one that is there by default (constant quality 2 pass). Often, I find the bitrate setting of the audio reverts to a quality setting instead of a specific bitrate when I begin the job. Things are more stable if I begin the encode on the main page, however. That is, if I don't add the job first, things go generally pretty well.
I'm not quite sure if this is a Vista thing, or the fact that I have the AutoMKV folder running from a partitioned data drive instead, which shouldn't pose a problem. Anyways, it seems like a nice app with tons of configuration possible. Thanks for your hard work!

when queuing jobs automkv will save the state of near all objects present in gui... and when job starts , automkv will reinsert all object string/state as when saved.
This will cause the "funny" quick switch of all objects from one state to other.
In any case when the job is started you will see the main gui as was when the job is saved

Hi people,
Recently I found this tool- AutoMKV. I am a newbie so please ignore my ignorance :) I've got a little problem- the resulting audio sounds some kind of weird. :) I can hear my voice sounds drawlingly, thick and deep!!! And at the end of the encoded movie the video ends but the audio keeps on playing! I don't change the default settings and only change the container to .mp4 and add last line AVS Script "trim(X,Y)". I noticed that the video is trimmed but the audio is not. What do I miss? I also tried LAME and Ogg Vorbis and the result is the same. When I tried Copy Original then there is no audio in the resulting movie.
Please help me to resolve this problem. I use Vista.
Cheers.

what bitrate selected ?
add last line AVS Script "trim(X,Y)". I noticed that the video is trimmed but the audio is not
that's correct... i do not trim the audio conversion... and the muxer will mux all those files... (i will check anyway !)
When I tried Copy Original then there is no audio in the resulting movie.
so i argue your input file is an mpeg4 (avi/mp4/mkv..) files...
in that case copy audio should not be allowed.. since is impossible to do...
and remember... more info you give.. better answer you will have! :)

Sorry, not sure you understood. If I start the encode from the main page, the settings seem to stick and the encode goes as expected. However, if I queue the jobs and and start the project from the jobs page, the encode does *not* go as expected, as different settings are applied to the encode. As mentioned, the video profile jumps to one of the default ones that are not hidden behind the 'more' option. And, the encode uses a profile I did *not* intend to use.

Got a problem.
Xvid_encraw seems to crash on me.
Always happens in the same spot, after it gets 100% finished, and some numbers appear on the screen.
Picture (http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/9851/xvidcrash1rx6.jpg)
Sorry, lost the log file, but everything looked ok, besides a few things:
-Encoded media size was -1, and I had a bit of a custom script:
undot()
hqdn3d(blah...) #no, I didn't really write blah, but the script had no errors in it, AFAIK
vmtoon(blah...)
dull=last
sharp=LimitedSharpenFaster(blah...)
Soothe(sharp, dull, XX) #were XX is a number from 0-100
And I didn't use any MT functions. I just had a SetMemoryMax(768) in the beginning. I found using MT functions becomes a liability.
Does it have something to do with the dgindex problem? I didn't replace the files yet because when I did, I still got a similar problem.
And if I encode it with x264, the encode finishes, but there are many errors in the video (first 5 seconds the video is green, then the colors don't look right, then the movement jumps ahead of the color...)

OK the "drawlingly, thick and deep" thing is solved. :) I just downloaded the last version of AviSynth and now the sound is OK.
So in fact I only have one problem for now and it's the lack of auto-trimming the audio to match the trimmed video. Did I understand that correctly? If that's right, is there any chance to see it implemented in AutoMKV in the near future?
Right now I will do the following:
1. Capture the movie with Windows MovieMaker from the miniDV cassette.
2. Trim the desired parts.
3. Export to DV-AVI (PAL).
4. AutoMKV to convert it to H264.
If someone have got ideas for more automated, easier or better way I am here to hear. :)

OK, the latest 84b version solves the problem of the profile changing on me at the last second. I still am seeing settings jump all over the place when I change a setting either on the main or advanced pages. If I change 1 setting, I have to go back and make sure all the other settings didn't change. I still have to go around in circles making sure nothing changes!
Also, is it possible to switch between constant quality, 1-pass and 2-pass for a given video profile? I'm not sure what happens when I *don't* select a bitrate on the advanced page. Is that the equivalent of <2-pass -crf> or a <2-pass -qp> or a <2-pass -bitrate>? If I select a file size on the main page, I assume it would be <2-pass -bitrate>?

If I change 1 setting, I have to go back and make sure all the other settings didn't change. I still have to go around in circles making sure nothing changes!
:) i know
there are some switchs that "reset" many and more values
these are the container and the codec, since the container allow or not some options i MUST reset all for being sure that not possible/allowed options is in use
i suggest this flow for usage
select your input, then the container, then the video codec, then the audio codec/bitrate, the width and disk settings
Many of the advanced options are ininfluent for main settins
The basic profile are divided in three categories
1 pass profile : 1_Pass_Fastest.xml, 1_Pass_High Performance.xml
2 pass profile : 2_Pass_Balanced.xml, _Pass_Better_Quality.xml, 2_Pass_Extreme_Quality.xml, 2_Pass_Insane_Quality.xml
1 pass profile Quality MODE: Constant_Quality.xml
I select a file size on the main page, I assume it would be <2-pass -bitrate>?
If you specify the bitrate AutoMKV will IGNORE the Disk Settings and will apply in both (if a two profile is selected) or in the single passes the bitrate you have writtem
If you don't specify the bitrate is AutoMKV that will compute it using the Disk Settings specified
<2-pass -crf> or a <2-pass -qp>
this profile or "way of encoding" isn't present in any of the codec that AutoMKV use
i hope to be clear
for ANY problem feel free to ask :)

Wow. Thanks for that explanation. It seems though some profiles do have the -qp or -crf switches. But, for those "2-pass" profiles, it seems at least to me that there ought to be 1-pass option specifying bitrate, especially for the "portable device" profiles, as 2-pass is usually overkill.
Just a recommendation for placement of the bitrate selection. Perhaps it should be on the main page. The reason being if one wants to encode a short video (3 min. video), 1/4 CD is the lowest size option and is far too large, and it's not obvious what size to manually select either. Choosing 'I don't care' changes the whole profile too to 'constant quality', which is not what is desired either. And, when *not* selecting a bitrate, the end result is a file that is probably too large for what the user wants/needs. Therefore, in those cases, the user must know the bitrate *and* enter it on the "advanced" page.
Just a suggestion, and a big :thanks:

these are quality profiles and so are 1 pass only profiles

well... for the zune profile there are both 1 pass and 2 passes profiles, the PSP and Ipod are 2 pass profile that's true ...
if you want to change ipod/psp to 1 pass profiles you must edit the profiles (and change <EncodingMode>4</EncodingMode> to <EncodingMode>0</EncodingMode> )
ust a recommendation for placement of the bitrate selection. Perhaps it should be on the main page. The reason being if one wants to encode a short video (3 min. video), 1/4 CD is the lowest size option and is far too large
:p no.. there is no need at all... simply write 3 in disk settings for 3 mb output... or 400 for 400 mb output .. ot 4 and 3 in next box for 3 slice of 4mb each!
Choosing 'I don't care' changes the whole profile too to 'constant quality', which is not what is desired either.
try to answer a simple question: in a 2 pass or 1 pass profile.. what bitrate i must use for "infinity" size ? 100 ? 1000? 10^6 ? or what ?
I NEED the bitrate in single or 2 pass profile, WHILE the quality profile DON'T NEED and DON'T WANT the bitrate ... just a quality to achieve :)
thanks for your point! i happy to discuss and confront .. so i can make AutoMKV a simplier and "more comprensible" application :)

OK, I have only begun to encode some short vids for a portable device. So, I NEED a baseline profile, and I don't know what size file I need to end up with. Sure, I could use a bitrate calculator, or just add the bitrate in the 'advanced settings'. This is all relatively simple. But, for those real first-timers, coming up with an appropriate file size is not a trivial thing. And, if nothing is entered there, the end result is a file that is way bigger than it needs to be to achieve a good result. People generally know which bitrate they need for a device, and so I think it may be better to have the bitrate setting in such cases not so hidden. :)
But, for me, everything is fine!

@kikker
But, for those real first-timers, coming up with an appropriate file size is not a trivial thing.
i have fully understud.. but again is a matter of approach
while the first user want at last 1003 as bitrate because have ridden somewhere in some obscure guide that 1003 (no more no less) is the perfect bitrate (or use the 100% rule )... i suggest a different approach
start the sample with a QUALITY encoding, using the CRF profile!
Look at file size and x264 stats... these will provide enough information for starting a good encoding!
Also remember that first time user don't even know what is width, quality, quantitizer or resizers...
So the AutoResize fuction will compute the width using the disk settings: if users allow 2100 MB output automkv will probably goes for keep the full width, if users allow only 700 mb automkv will scale down to achive a respectable quality in this media size.
BHH
P.S. the 100% rule was born at with divx3 (low/fast motion... with the nandub!): bitrate = width*height/100
in this way the bitrate value is always an overkill... i suggest the w*h/250 for x264 and w*h/200 for xvid... but don't tell anyone of this brutal/antique/total broken approach :eek:
kikker
24th May 2007, 20:56
Hmmm..but you can't use that profile for either the PSP or iPod. I was speaking only when you need a baseline profile of some sort, where all the advanced features have been disabled. But, yeah, during normal encodes where processor, res, file size, etc aren't as critical, the placement of input fields is perfect!
P.S. I've heard that the square root of a change in resolution should be proportional to the change in bitrate, no doubt antique as well. :)

Edit:
0.83b works fine with it.
I think it might have been some of the filter dll's I copied over. I'll try a fresh extract of AutoMKV without any thing added to any of the directories and get back to ya.
You right though, it's probably my messing around with AutoMKV, not AutoMKV itself :p
Edit2:
Well, don't know what fixed it but I guess it was me messing around with it.
Nevermind then.
Also, you should update the fft3dfilter in the filter directory with the latest one.

Hi, I recently started experimenting with this program and found it to be really interesting. Have a few questions if someone could help me out. First would be: From reading over some guides and posts it seems the program is primarily used for DVD work, but is it also recommended for work using file to file? (say like uncompressed avi to x264/MKV) Also, how does it compare to something like MeGUI for file to file x264 encoding?
Last, was doing some testing and found to have some issues with audio/video. Is it possible for the program to use an audio track within the file as the video or does it need to be split? The audio is a "PCM 48000Hz stereo" but it comes back that the "audio wasn't encoded properly". There also seems to be programs with the video as it doesn't encode. It's a 24bit RGB 888 at 592x444 with 29fps. Was looking over "http://automkv.wiki-site.com/index.php/Help:Contents" but it doesn't really cover file to file.
Here is the test video/audio file I was using if anyone wanted to view it: Download (http://www.seraphicgate.com/test.rar) (51MB)

Any help would be great, thanks.

Go to ffdshow audio codec preferences:

Same with ffdshow video codec.
Change codec "raw video" to "all supported".
Worked fine for me. Encoded the test file just fine. Even spiced it up with a few filters.
Test2.mkv (http://www.mytempdir.com/1337613)
Resized to 720x544 (640x480 would've been better for a "real" encode though), with filters:
undot()
hqdn3d()
dull=last
sharp=LimitedSharpenFaster(ss_x=2, ss_y=2, smode=4, strength=250, overshoot=1, undershoot=1)
Soothe(sharp, dull, 30)
Looks nice me thinks :p

Thanks for the reply to you both.
Changed both those settings and it seemed to work as the file has audio now. Although, it still said "audio wasn't encoded properly in the pop-up with the timer" (used nero aac, and have the neroAacEnc in besweet). I'll try some more tomorrow... as it's late.
buzzqw, if you get a chance, could you maybe reply to the first paragraph in my #2222 post (interested to know)? Also wizboy11, yeah I see you added a few filters. But wouldn't think it would need any as it's all lossless up to that point, has cropping but no resizing, and the capture settings/field alignment should be right on.
Have two other questions if you have a chance:
1) Could you share the full script you used or how you did the test encode? (just want to get a idea as to what I'm doing wrong)
2) Yes, the pre-crop video is 640x480 (4:3). The one I linked was post-crop at 592x444 as that is the planned size of my final video. Was there a necessary reason to resize or was it just preference?
(On a side note: I also plan to have a 16:9 version as well, which would be 852x480 pre-crop then around something like 788x444 post-crop. Although, I haven't had a chance to experiment with that too much as I need to find the right sharpen filter. As the video needs to be sharpened up just a little after/during the upscaling from 640x480/720x480 to 852x480)

From reading over some guides and posts it seems the program is primarily used for DVD work, but is it also recommended for work using file to file?
AutoMKV support a wide range of input files
1) all file supported by dgindex (so all mpeg2 file like vob/mpeg/svcd/vro ...)
2) specific support with projectX for TS files
3) basically all video file supported by DirectShowSource (so ... all you can see/view with windows media player)... is also possible to force use of directshowsource even for otherwise processed file (like mpeg files)
4) audio files... while is a near unknow feature.. AutoMKV could be feeded with audio file (as input) and transcode to other format
5) support for subtitles....
compare to something like MeGUI for file to file x264 encoding?
i don't want to do any comparison :) both are excellent applications
Last, was doing some testing and found to have some issues with audio/video. Is it possible for the program to use an audio track within the file as the video or does it need to be split?
when input file is an avi (or mkv/mp4... basically an mpeg4 files) the audio is directly taken from input file.
Using directshowsource the audio is processed and used to feed nero/lame/ogg... isn't possible to extract audio AND copy to new encoded file
The audio is a "PCM 48000Hz stereo" but it comes back that the "audio wasn't encoded properly".
as i said audio is processed by nicaudio (for dts/ac3/mp2/mp3 source file) or by directshowsource if audio is "inside" an avi.
in that case is neccessary have a directshow filter installed, and ffdshow is a good filter!
There also seems to be programs with the video as it doesn't encode.
same as before... install ffdshow and allow to decode this format (basically near all)

Hi. Its Pascals friend Andrew. Im a video editer and work with raw avi in Premiere 2.0. MKV I find to be a fantastic compression/quaility codec. I archive with mkv.I have a problem that I cant seem to solve:
A) I use it to archive used footage and find it a problem converting back to MS Raw DVI
B) I can do it in Premiere but problems do crop in and would like a know if there be a dedicated interface to do this conversion from mkv - MS raw avi or any form of raw avi
Thanks & do have a good weekend!

I'm having a problem with an MPEG2/ac3 transport stream not being handled by the x264 decoder.
I've never had a problem with these files before, and this format is primarily what I use AutoMKV to convert.
I've tried both versions .83 and .84b and also tried replacing the dgindex files as buzz suggested, but still had the same problem. The file does play in Media Player Classic properly. I'm hoping someone can help me out.

As the video needs to be sharpened up just a little after/during the upscaling from 640x480/720x480 to 852x480)
I don't want to make things too complicated for ya but I'll post it.
First off, even if the capture is lossless, you'll be surprised at how much noise and other sh!t can get into videos, even DVD's (hell, even HD-DVD/Blu-ray). Pretty much everything needs some sort of noise reduction, and sharpening is just extra. And sharpening also increase the bitrate needed so keep that in mind.
640x480 is just "preferred" by me I guess since it is pretty much the standard and I wouldn't want my TV doing any upsizing to degrade the quality of the video (my stuff would've been played on XBMC on a standard SD TV). So I want to keep as much video info as possible. Once it's gone you can't get it back. :)
First off Copy and paste into text file:
function Soothe(clip sharp, clip orig, int "keep")
{
Assert(sharp.width == orig.width && sharp.height == orig.height,
\ "Soothe: clip dimentions must match!")
keep = default(keep, 24)
keep = (keep>100) ? 100 : (keep<0) ? 0 : keep
KP = string(keep)
diff = mt_makediff(orig,sharp)
diff2 = diff.temporalsoften(1,255,0,32,2)
diff3 = mt_lutxy(diff,diff2, "x 128 - y 128 - * 0 < x 128 - 100 / " + KP
\ + " * 128 + x 128 - abs y 128 - abs > x " + KP
\ + " * y 100 " + KP + " - * + 100 / x ? ?")
return( mt_makediff(orig,diff3,chroma="copy first") )
}
Save as "Soothe.avsi" and place in automkv->exe->filter.
Second, open base.avs in same place, under #test5 you can do something like:
undot()
hqdn3d()
dull=last
sharp=LimitedSharpenFaster(ss_x=2, ss_y=2, smode=4, strength=250, overshoot=1, undershoot=1)
Soothe(sharp, dull, 30)
Lower the strength value to ~200 if your not gonna resize it. Pretty much, in general, you'll need a larger strength if you upsize it more. Like for the 720x444 thing, the script should be fine, just tweak (or change out totally if you want the denoisers and you can also, if you like, tweak the strength and whatever else you want. Basically, it's a starting point. Lower strength when downsizing. This is just an example. If you want less noise reduction try hqdn3d(2) instead. Your job is to tweak all the parameters. Also you can try something like this too:
a= last
b=a.hqdn3d()
SeeSaw(a,b, NRlimit=3, NRlimit2=4, Sstr=1.5, Slimit=5, Spower=5, Sdamplo=6, Szp=16)
Thats the standard SeeSaw code posted in the SeeSaw thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=104701).
Same thing goes here, you tweak the parameters to the movie. I'll help ya but general it would be a bad idea to hold your hand :p. (seesaw should run without needing to add anything to filters directory).

Hi,
Two more questions:
1. Which filter should I use for better quality- LanczosResize or LanzosPlus?
2. Why the outputed movie is resized to 720x544? I expected 720x540. I only use "Set Width Resolution" to 720 and no manual resize.
Will I have to go for the manual resizing option and set it to be 720x540 or do I have to leave it to 720x544?

Answers a little backward here. :D
2.) I believe it is to maintain MOD 4/8 for compressibility or something like that. 720x544 is close enough, the change is aspect ratio is very, very minor with one 4 extra pixels.
1.) Never tried LanczosPlus. Try it and see if you like it, compare it to LanczosResize/Spline36.
I always use Spline36Resize because of the "supposedly" reduced amount of ringing, although both are "tap" resizers and ringing is just another part of that.
Edit:
BTW, there is a huge thread on Spline vs Lanczos.
Lanczos vs Spline (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=112594)
Also, somewhere in that thread is a link to "newfilters.dll". I believe foxyshadis made it.
With that you could try spline64resize (basically spline36 just with 4 taps instead of 3.
Or how about "BlackmanResize" :D. Or basically Lanczos4Resize with reduced ringing.
I still stand be spline though.

1. Which filter should I use for better quality- LanczosResize or LanzosPlus?
Attention LanczosPlus is to use only for Upscaling not for downscaling!
if used to downscale automkv will force use of lanczos4resize (in next update will be Spline36Resize)
2. Why the outputed movie is resized to 720x544? I expected 720x540. I only use "Set Width Resolution" to 720 and no manual resize.
maybe you source file isn't a pure 4/3 film?

Awesome...
I'm encoding a 7-DVD series on 'Creation Science Evangelism' onto 1 DVD... Q22 works fine but I thought I'ld push for Q21.
I'ts a slow-moving lecture series at 29.97 fps which should show no ill effects from a 25 fps conversion.
AutoMKV has a few conversion options (CcnvertFPS, ChangeFPS...)
Which would work best for me... (I did check the wiki but it doesn't seam to include the 0.84 Advanced Profiles Editing).

Hello. I try to encode some DVD's and I only want the blackbars cropped, so that I can set aspect ratio in mkv and have the image displayed as it should. But the "Crop Only" option automatically adds a resize to 720 in the end of the script. Is there a way not to resize at all.
Also, if I check the "Anamorphic encode" then the final mkv is the wrong aspect ratio (is very tall)
buzzqw
26th May 2007, 14:08
@delacroixp
from avisynth manual
ChangeFPS changes the frame rate by deleting or duplicating frames.
The AssumeFPS filter changes the frame rate without changing the frame count (causing the video to play faster or slower). It only sets the framerate-parameter
ConvertFPS: the filter attempts to convert the frame rate of clip to new_rate without dropping or inserting frames, providing a smooth conversion with results similar to those of standalone converter boxes. The output will have (almost) the same duration as clip, but the number of frames will change proportional to the ratio of target and source frame rates.
also.. pay attention to audio.. maybe you must use the advanced audio fuction, expecially the Tempo.
your formula for 29.97 to 25 should be this (100.0*30.0*1001.0)/25000.0
@pdanpdan
But the "Crop Only" option automatically adds a resize to 720 in the end of the script
the resize is used to maintain the aspect ratio
if you don't want any at all resizer you must use the manual crop fuction (setting all values, but width/height... leave 720*576) AND set in main panel NONE as resizer
about anamorphic: as a previusly said the fuction is under testing and not supported (and btw when using anamorphic encode ... the actors are very tall always)

But when I open VTS_04_0.IFO for some strange reason it opens VTS_05_0.IFO and encode only this file. Not the first one. Also if I open VTS_06_0.IFO it still opens VTS_05_0.IFO. Why? What should I do?
Here is photos. Step by step:

And the result

{
Assert(sharp.width == orig.width && sharp.height == orig.height,
\ "Soothe: clip dimentions must match!")
keep = default(keep, 24)
keep = (keep>100) ? 100 : (keep<0) ? 0 : keep
KP = string(keep)
diff = mt_makediff(orig,sharp)
diff2 = diff.temporalsoften(1,255,0,32,2)
diff3 = mt_lutxy(diff,diff2, "x 128 - y 128 - * 0 < x 128 - 100 / " + KP
\ + " * 128 + x 128 - abs y 128 - abs > x " + KP
\ + " * y 100 " + KP + " - * + 100 / x ? ?")
return( mt_makediff(orig,diff3,chroma="copy first") )
}
Save as "Soothe.avsi" and place in automkv->exe->filter.
Second, open base.avs in same place, under #test5 you can do something like:
undot()
hqdn3d()
dull=last
sharp=LimitedSharpenFaster(ss_x=2, ss_y=2, smode=4, strength=250, overshoot=1, undershoot=1)
Also you can try something like this too:
a= last
b=a.hqdn3d()
I appreciate your help and I'm not trying to ask you to hold my hand. Just trying to get the hang of this. Plan to make a more detailed reply to both you and buzzqw, but for now, I've pretty much got the filters working with VirtualDub (thought it would be better to use AutoMKV just for the final encode).
However, wanted to know if you could tell me what I'm missing as "LimitedSharpenFaster" comes back as no function. I thought adding the import of "LimitedSharpenFaster.avsi" would fix it but it doesn't seem to help. Is there a declared .dll needed? Also, can seesaw and LSF be used together? From the looks of this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=995838&postcount=604) they can but I wasn't sure.
This is what I came up with:
avisource("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\test3.avi")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\VirtualDub\plugins\EEDI2.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\VirtualDub\Avisynth Scripts\SeeSawSharpen\MaskTools-v1.5.8\MaskTools.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\AutoMKV 0.84b\exe\Filter\hqdn3d.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\AutoMKV 0.84b\exe\Filter\RemoveGrainS.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\AutoMKV 0.84b\exe\Filter\RepairS.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\AutoMKV 0.84b\exe\Filter\UnDot.dll")
import("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\VirtualDub\Avisynth Scripts\SeeSawSharpen\SeeSaw.avs")
import("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\VirtualDub\Avisynth Scripts\SeeSawSharpen\Soothe.avsi")
import("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\VirtualDub\Avisynth Scripts\SeeSawSharpen\Base.avs")
import("C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\AutoMKV 0.84b\exe\Filter\LimitedSharpenFaster.avsi")
# Not sure if needed
a= last
b=a.hqdn3d()
SeeSaw(a,b, NRlimit=3, NRlimit2=4, Sstr=1.5, Slimit=5, Spower=5, Sdamplo=6, Szp=16)
EEDI2().TurnRight().EEDI2().TurnLeft()
Spline36Resize(852,480)

@vorob
this is a normal behavior of automkv
when selecting a ifo file, automkv will look in this folder for a bigger file and then select this ifo.
This is done because the main film has usually the biggest ifo
If you want to select a specific ifo you must , in order, open automkv, go in advanced settings and check Use this IFO, then in main panel select your ifo
other solution is to put every group of vts is a specific folders

No it is not working. It opened first file, but when I’ve opened preview I saw only first part of this file only VTS_04_1.VOB. Also when I’ve started encoding, I received this
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6119/untitledcp6.th.jpg (http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6119/untitledcp6.jpg)
Same happens when I put all files from video 1 in different folder. Opens only first part and I receive this error. By the way, AutoGK opens and encode exactly what I ask, but you understand that Xvid is a bad thing :)))

this message have nothing to do with automkv
this message is given by dgindex
i suggest to look at dgindex manual for fixing these transitions then use the corrected dv2 file as input for automkv
