Yes, Vista has a System32 folder.

My concern is that there is no removal process, in addition, nothing to indicate that it is used by AutoMKV due to the details on the file being blank.

Every other program I install, at least attempts (though not always successfully) to remove it's own files on uninstall.

Every other program I download and unzip does not require me to manually place files in the OS folders.

This is not a normal process.

In addition, a bit of research shows that winamp uses this file too, but without requiring it be in the \\windows\System32\ folder. Doing something similar would be nice.

It's a standard library (lib) file.
Looks at your standard windows system32 folder. It's full of them. There's probably 100+ in mine. Loads of programs use them. I guess I just don't understand why someone would hesitate like you are. :p

@Shark_jlc @wizboy11
i like you boy! there are always something that could be better... AND from next release neither libsndfile-1.dll or fftw3.dll or all library needed to ffmpegsource will be need to put in systems folder!

the avs script will be ok on automkv, BUT if open in virtualdub (after extiting automkv...) will throw errors

Vista, being as new as it is, probably has many Show (http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000060.html)Stopper (http://www.amk.ca/books/h/Showstopper)'s (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0029356717/) and it's nice to see someone take an analytically critical approach to understanding 'what goes into your system', 'what comes out' and how to remedy the situation when all hell breaks loose... as it undoubtedly will...
Most People have become as blasaise about software as they have about their cars (automobile)... and have no idea how anything actually works... and even less when it stops...

Getting into Vista wright now is a bit like going to the moon for the first time... nothing works very well... but do you really want to wait until everything's sorted and miss out on the great adventure....

Hi, kurtnoise gave me the solution !

First use the latest mp4box : http://kurtnoise.free.fr/mp4tools

then (and I think it's doable with automkv), u just have to add the desire stream :

MP4Box.exe -add 1.mp4 -add myfile.idx#1:lang=en -add myfile.idx#18:lang=fr 2.mp4

where the idx index is set to +1 : so u have a proper mp4 with the sub u want.

voila

@ ALL

requested feature : TRIM
already present. (nobody look at changelog ?)

Then just save it as a d2v and it should also demux the audio too.
yes, or use the Last AVS script and paste all trims example trim(1000,0).(0.9000)

should it be possible to obtain (a sort of) that using a trim() inside Last Line AVS Script IF used in mkvmaudio.avs, too?
soundout is ignoring the trim :(... i will beg Sh0dan...

My suggestion would be to have AutoMKV check for the Encoder, and if it's not present, do not give me any WMV options... or something

do you know what registry key to check ?

my last try now, can you make an ps3 profile that have only that commandlines for the encoding?

http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/PS3_J.xml

Upon restarting AutoMKV, it asked to copy those 2 files to \Windows\System32\ again (Running it, a 3rd time, as Administrator actually copied the files, and opening AutoMKV, now a 4th time , these pop-ups are gone.)

as said, already fixed in next update. but don't know if it will work in vista

20:21:33 Encoding C:\Users\Shark\Documents\DVDFab\temp\fixed1.ac3 to WAV , as pre-process to WMV
20:21:33 Unable to encode Audio, trying with DirectShowSource!
20:21:33 Unable to encode Audio, even with DirectShowSource!, trying with FFmpeg!

installed ffdshow ?

20:23:54 Avi engage mode not corrected, switched to DirectShowSource
20:23:54 !!! BREAK - FILE NOT SUPPORTED !!! - Trying with MediaInfo!

and avisynth and xvid ?

@delacroixp
thanks!

@hubereevez
ehm.. in wich way i would know the correct languages ?
i must parse the .idx and look at language present... and discard the "broken" ones ?

BHH

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{64EC1F25-24E2-11D3-8FA6-00C04F6109B7}

... although there are quite a few other keys that may work as well, especially if that guid is unique per machine?

Sounds good, just something I was making everyone aware of.

No (do I need it?).

No and No (do I need them?).

EDIT:

I've installed AviSynth (yes, I see even the wiki say's it's required... doh) and am now re-running the movie encode, I've already seen some new windows popup in the processing (Interlace Analysis).

ffdshow or any other directshow based decoder is required, since some time automkv will use directshowsource filter for its pourpose

xvid is needed for its yv12 decoding, DivX or RealVideo Yv12 decoder is ok too

OK, that encode failed. I did get a short movie... Playing the movie actually says this on the screen though:

@buzzqw thanks for the info for the trim. I never into the Preview button. I didn't know that the Preview popup, is not only to preview but to change settings :(

I'll test it tonight.

If I rename the filter to *.old, and try to encode, I consistently get a crash in CScript that I cannot pin down (It just goes away with no message, that I can find, in any log). If I rename the filter back, no more crash, but I get the bad output like before.

I try the trim function.. I select a clip of 17 min instead of 1h30.
The target is DVD-R

Why do I have the same bitrate in the command line ?

You shouldn't calculate the bitrate with the movie lenth using the trim ?

First of all I want to thank you for this tool. It's really put together well, and I'm a software engineer so it means something :)

However, the only problem I'm running into is DGIndex hangs because it isn't loading the vobs automatically. I have to load them manually and then it processes fine. It's not a huge deal, but it does prevent me from queuing and letting more than one job run overnight. Any ideas? I am selecting the main IFO by the way.

You shouldn't calculate the bitrate with the movie lenth using the trim ?

most depends on source, are you loading vobs on dvd or hd? and as input are you pointing to ifo or vobs ?
... anyway in next update the autoloading of successive vobs is more robust

Ok, the issue with DGIndex hanging is due to how the DVD is ripped. DVDDecrypter must be in file mode, and you must rip all files and then select video_ts.ifo for it to work properly.

The h263 quantization.
Not sure if it's exactly a matrix but close enough right. ;)
(i'm pretty sure it's not a matrix).

I'm just not sure how to select it. It's not the standard mpeg matrix. It's an alternative to the standard mpeg matrix.

I though vobsub could sent informations when you rip the subs.
For example, you only choose to rip english and spanish subs, so you have eng and spa with an idx and timestamps.

If you check the idx files or with the infos given by vobsub, I think you can then tell mp4box wich subs he has to mux. You don't hqve to modify the idx file, just use the proper commqnd line " -add myfile.idx#idNumber:lang:LanguageCode

If I comment out just warpsharp.dll, I get a crash in cscript.exe

I had to make a minor change here:
cscript.exe WMCmd.vbs -input version.avs -output version.wmv -v_codec WVC1 -v_mode 3 -v_bitrate 1048576 -v_preset better

But that appears to work. The movie produced says "AviSynth 2.57 build: Dec 31 2006 [14:16:28]" etc.

I'm having so much annoyance with UAC and Vista, I'm going to turn that off and see if that doesn't help AutoMKV as well.

EDIT:

BTW, you could include a test button that will run this script automatically to test a users configuration for them. A sort of health check. Or at least include the files (version.avs and test.bat with the cscript command) already so they don't need to be made. Just a thought :)

if automkv rip the subs it ripped only the requested languages, only with external subtitle, i suppose, the problem arise

It's not so clear to me, when you lok at the idx file you have something like that (2 subs added over 20 present in automkv):
............
# Language index in use
langidx: 0
# English
id: en, index: 0
# Decomment next line to activate alternative name in DirectVobSub / Windows Media Player 6.x
# alt: English
# Vob/Cell ID: 1, 2 (PTS: 95600)
timestamp: 00:01:37:320, filepos: 000000000
......................
timestamp: 00:56:12:240, filepos: 000252800
timestamp: 00:56:28:520, filepos: 000253000
# Vob/Cell ID: 1, 17 (PTS: 3404400)
timestamp: 00:57:32:720, filepos: 000254000

# Deutsch
id: de, index: 1
# Decomment next line to activate alternative name in DirectVobSub / Windows Media Player 6.x
# alt: Deutsch

# Espanol
id: es, index: 2
# Decomment next line to activate alternative name in DirectVobSub / Windows Media Player 6.x
# alt: Espanol

So when you set automkv to rip the two subs you want, isn't it possible to read the result of the vobsub's log or reading the idx file ? So you have idx and language ?

From your test tool, none :/

I'm going to see if there is a cscript debugger from MS that I can use to diagnose my issue.

EDIT:

If I change the batch file created from AutoMKV to read "cscript.exe //X ..." that will launcher the debugger. So, I'm able to find that line 4039 is where my crash is occurring

g_objSourceGroup.AutoSetFileSource( strInput2 )

I'm not sure why yet, as strInput2 appears to be set correctly, and to a valid file, so I'm going to see if I can't put in some exception handling... if that exists in this scripting language.

I'm not able to capture any data from the Cscript.exe crash by adding some error handling into the wcmd.vbs file.

So, I think I'm stuck. My only other thought was if there was some way to verify my AVS and/or VOB files to ensure their quality.

My AVS contains only one line, DirectshowSource("file.mkv"), nothing else. It's a 720p H264/AC3 file...

If I had to guess I'd say it has something to do with how DirectshowSource works in Vista, looks like it outputs something WMCmd.vbs doesn't like? Colorspace?

As I said, it works fine using AVISource or just encoding "version.avs"... playing the .avs in WMP11 works fine too I think (can't check now).

Been experimenting with AutoMKV for x264 encoding... I have a few seasons of "Friends" to encode (PAL DVDS), and I'm having trouble with the deinterlacing...

Am I doing something wrong?
Should I leave it interlaced and leave it to fddshow to do it when palying the file? Is that even possible with x264?

Thanks in advance.

Don't forget to crop that black off of the side. :)
(4, maybe 8 on the left, and 4 on the top)

It may just be that is the result of deinterlacing it. Or it could be you may have performed the wrong form of deinterlacing.

Open the vob file up in MPC, make sure you can see the interlacing artifacts. Then step through it frame by frame.

They're PAL DVDs so it may be a slightly different order from the ones over here, but you might see a combination of 3 progressive frames and then 2 interlaced (should be different for 25fps PAL).

In this case IVTC is the way to go. So then select Decimate as your deinterlacer options.

However, if every frame is interlaced, then that's just the result of two different fields. Not much you can do I think (besides try a different deinterlacer or something, but AutoMKV pretty much uses the best, IMO).

I have now updated Avisynth and Xvid to the latest version, ffdshow was already up-to-date.

I'll try right know with a little sample and I'll tell you how it goes.

wizboy11, it's not a IVTC matter as they are PAL dvd's... Every frame is interlaced ...

Can you clarify the FFDshow requirements in the wiki? I can't find any mention of DirectShowSource on any of the help pages, and I don't know enough to write anything up myself.

... and addressing my issue, I'll install FFDshow tonight and see how things go.

open movie.avs in virtualdub and look at errors
also post the movie.avs

@Shark_jlc
ffdshow, or any other directshow filter is used for audio or video when nicac3source or avisource fail on input file

for wmv the audio is pre-decoded to wav then in movie.avs the wav decoded is used as.. audio source

the main problem is that audio wav can goes far over 2gb file, in that case wav header isn't more readable.. so automkv will create a special wav file that can be of any size (wave_extended)

BUT wave_extended isn't support natively by windows (xp and vista) and so is needed an audio decoder (ffdshow) that is able, via directshowsource, to decode those wav file

I'd like to create a wmv (or asf) file with wmv video and ac3 audio. While MS muxer does not allow for it, supposedly I can do it with third party muxer. So I'd like to encode DVD as follows: video to wmv, and no audio. Than I would take encoded wmv and mux it (manually, outside automkv) with ac3 audio. I've seem to recall that there were issues with wmv processing if no audio was specified - that's why I'm asking.
Note, this is a bit theoretical question so please do not advise to use mkv container.

OH, Wait... Opening the AVS with VDubMod, I get the exact same result I showed in that picture... =/

I haven't tried AutoMKV, just the plain CScript wmcmd.vbs. I tried insering ConvertToRGB32() in my script though (with avs 2.56a) but it's the same... just sits there and doesn't start the encoding. I'll have a go with AutoMKV as well but I suspect it's the same since the problem appears to be cscript wmcmd.vbs and avisynth in Vista...

Update: The encoding DID start after quite a looong time after all (with avs 2.56), no need for ConvertToRGB32().

Update2: Same thing with AutoMKV, after installing Avs 2.56a the encoding takes a looong time to start....but it works!

you need an mpeg2 decoder for preview OR do this

with dgindex do the d2v file of this mpeg

load this d2v as input for automkv, and when asked for audio load the demuxed audio

then the preview should be no more problem

ADDED: Request for Abort encoding (suggestion by survivant)
ADDED: If encoding windows is CLOSED it instead will go to system tray. A simple double click on system tray icon will restore the window
ADDED: Last Line AVS Script to Preview
ADDED: Possibility to load an external Audio. If done this will be the only audio muxed. No other audio from clip will be muxed/encoded
ADDED: FFmpegSource option (in Advanced Settings, near ffmpeg). This option is to use when even directshowsource is unable to process your file. AutoMKV will automatically trigger this option if directshowsource fail. This features is not used on mpeg2 files (ts,pvr,vob...) and if you want activate it (on mpeg2 files) you must even check Use DirectShowSource for Video (Update to FFmpegSource 1.4)
ADDED: Now the trim will apply to audio too
ADDED: Possibility to burn in external subtitle in movie (srt,idx/sub,ssa,ass) . Use the load external subtitle and check "Burn Subtitle in Movie"
ADDED: Status windows for encoding with XviD
ADDED: Color conversions
ADDED: FastLineDarken 1.3 MT MOD.avsi
ADDED: AQ_XPass profiles to X264 profiles. These profiles are the usually profile with AQ enabled (aq=0.5, aq-sens=15)
FIXED: Custom.bat wasn't launched. Create this file in \exe\BeSweet folder. (example: C:\AutoMKV\exe\BeSweet\ffmpeg.exe -i C:\encoding\audio.ac3 -acodec mp2 -ac 2 -vol 256 -ab 224000 C:\encoding\temp\audio.mp2 )
FIXED: On "Don't care about size" the Resizer is set to NONE (suggestion by zacoz)
FIXED: Deleting Jobs from queue doesn't enable the start button (thanks to tha_reaper)
FIXED: PS3_41 profile. B-RDO wasn't used (thanks to survivant)
FIXED: If DVDFabDecrypter isn't present, "Check DVD Drive" is disabled
FIXED: Some code optimization (1 kb less exe)
FIXED: Some quirks to command line encode
FIXED: Removed AutoCrop computation n "Computing movie lenght" if Manual Crop is enabled
FIXED: When splitting with mkvmerge the number of splits are now fixed. This could lend to a bigger last file, but not to more split then requested
FIXED: When audio source is AVS the encoding don't goes ok (thanks to vOjToL)
FIXED: Some tweak on Colormatrix (SMPTE 240M->Rec.601 conversion)
FIXED: Neither libsndfile-1.dll or fftw3.dll or all library needed to ffmpegsource will be need to put in systems folder. But if script is opened (virtualdub/mpc...) after automkv was close , will be some errors. Now AutoMKV will set a tempoary PATH variable for those files. Only for Preview is needed to copy those file.
FIXED: No more use of NicMP4Box since new MP4Box support the -ipod and -psp switch (build by Kurtnoise)
FIXED: Between different encoding (in same seesion) the trim parameters was applyed to all file
FIXED: The bitrate compute now take in account the Trim value (thanks to survivant)
FIXED: Using .idx/sub in MP4 will now diplay, when playing, only the selected subtitles

hi buzz,
maybe the problem is in the x254.exe encoder, i have seen that he is going crazy he shows---> 1st and fps 90429, and after 30minutes was the 1st pass done.

and what do you mean with that "B-RDO wasn't used" in fixed ps3_41

buzzqw

in ps_41 the subme wasn't hight enough to allow brdo, now i have raised the subme value in this profile

and any idea why the encoder is going crazy, and dont really "encode" the movie

survivant
27th July 2007, 13:32
hmm very curious, i try to encode the movie again, and let automkv split it into 2 files each 2.gb if the 2nd dont work i will post the logfile of the encode :(

I have the same problem. Some movies play nice but other not able to make it work.

The last movie that I encoded, even if a split the movie into 500megs part, they won't play. No idea why.

I try to put the AVC into a 2ts container, but it won't play either. I was able to play a .ts when I put mpeg-2 video into it.

I have a problem with audio settings. I follow these steps:

1) Open AVS file
2) Automkv automatically ask for primary audio. I set the file.
3) Automkv automatically ask for second audio. I cancel because I only have one file.
4) Add to queue.

I usually encode 3-5 AVS at the same time (queued). When I do the above steps the first time all is correct but the second, thrid and other steps the audio settings reset to default of the program and not to default I saved.
The default I saved is LC -CBR 128 but the program return to AUTO 0.40.
All the time I need back to LC -CBR 128 when I encode more than one file.

so im back again and now auto mkv is running and i'Ve some questions why does x264.exe does an autoresize with 2passes ? --> running auto resize fuction..please wait ( 4522 frames only)
then when it is finished auto mkv says, file not supported last try with .... , why not supported, it is the same fu*** file and yesterdey x264 works fine with it, why today not.

or only the autoresize (test?) works with x264 but not the encode?
hope the file which will be ready tomorrow works on the ps3 now :D

it's make autoresize since you have leaved Automatic as width

or only the autoresize (test?) works with x264 but not the encode?

the error of file not supported is given BEFORE autoresize
AND if autoresize works, works too the full encoding (if source ins't mpeg4 files)

Thanks for the new version - but I seem to be having problems with it. I am converting a 20 minute VOB to x264, this was working fine in 0.87, but in 0.88 I keep getting messages about BAutoDeint.exe crashing. The encoding process then continues - but without deinterlacing! The "Deinterlace Test:" lines are missing from the logfile and deint.log has:
processed frames: 997/2265 -- 44% completed
and then nothing else, I'm assuming this is when the process crashed?

Any ideas what could be causing this? Like I said, it was fine under 0.87.

Thanks!

The "Test Deint" button didn't make it crash (the test only took a few seconds though). I got asked if it's OK for BAutoDeint to use ffdshow and allowed it, but sadly it still crashed when I started encoding. :(

the new ffmpeg source? i've the one which you give me with automkv 087c :), or is in amkv 088 everything up to date :D

If you know what kind of interlacing it is (pure interlaced, 3:2, film, etc...) then just choose it manually and it won't run bautodeint for now (temp fix?)

Also, it's a good idea to know what field order it is too.
If you can, open it up in DGIndex (only do this if it's a vob input, or select the vob corresponding to the ifo if your using an ifo).

After it's open, file->preview. Look at the field order. Remember it.

Now, open the vob in MPC, or mplayer, or any player so you can clearly see the interlacing. Step through it frame by frame. If 3 frames are progressive and 2 are interlaced, then you should choose either film or decimate as your deinterlacer option. If every frame is interlaced, then it's pure interlaced, then you just choose interlaced as your deinterlacer option.

Also good idea to check HQ. :)

Then just put what field order (TFF for top, BFF for bottom field first) which you got from DGIndex.

There you have it. Won't have to run autodeint so it shouldn't crash so just do it this way till the potential bug is fixed (is it a bug? I haven't been following it)

I believe the dll was updated.
ffmpegsource is at v1.4 now, back at 87c it was at 1.3.
Not to mention there could also have been bugs in AutoMKV too that are fixed now.

Hello,

when i encode a movie as mp4 with x264 and use two audio streams then (sometimes - actually most of the times) they get switched in the final file. That wouldn't be a problem if i didn't use "track name" in "advanced audio options". Because all the other audio settings get NOT switched. So, audio streams get the wrong audio settings.

Anyone else has this problem?

In the AutoMKV changelog, I just noticed that under "updated" it says X264 667c Cef's build. I don't recall there every being a "c" build. IIRC, it's 667b (unless I missed something in the AVC forum).

I noticed it as I was adding .88 to the wiki here. (http://automkv.wiki-site.com/index.php/Changelog)

Also, there is an update to fastlinedarken mod with a slight speed enhancement made by Didée.
Nothing critical though. It can certainly wait till the next full update. :)

##############################
# FastLineDarken 1.3x MT MOD #
##############################
#
# Written by Vectrangle
# Didée: - Speed Boost, Updated: 11th May 2007
#
# * requires mt_masktools v2
# * requires yv12 input
#
# Usage is FastLineDarkenMOD(strength, luma_cap, threshold, thinning),
# named parameters are supported eg FastLineDarken(thinning=0)
#
# Note that you must import this avs into your script using import("...\FastLineDarken.avs")
#
# Parameters are:
# strength (integer) - Line darkening amount, 0-256. Default 48. Represents the _maximum_ amount
# that the luma will be reduced by, weaker lines will be reduced by
# proportionately less.
# luma_cap (integer) - value from 0 (black) to 255 (white), used to stop the darkening
# determination from being 'blinded' by bright pixels, and to stop grey
# lines on white backgrounds being darkened. Any pixels brighter than
# luma_cap are treated as only being as bright as luma_cap. Lowering
# luma_cap tends to reduce line darkening. 255 disables capping. Default 191.
# threshold (integer) - any pixels that were going to be darkened by an amount less than
# threshold will not be touched. setting this to 0 will disable it, setting
# it to 4 (default) is recommended, since often a lot of random pixels are
# marked for very slight darkening and a threshold of about 4 should fix
# them. Note if you set threshold too high, some lines will not be darkened
# thinning (integer) - optional line thinning amount, 0-256. Setting this to 0 will disable it,
# which is gives a _big_ speed increase. Note that thinning the lines will
# inherently darken the remaining pixels in each line a little. Default 24.
#
# Changelog:
# 1.3 - added ability to thin lines, now runs much slower unless thinning=0. Changed the defaults (again)
# 1.2 - huge speed increase using yv12lutxy =)
# - weird darkening issues gone (they were caused by yv12layer)
# - show option no longer available due to optimizations. Use subtract() instead
# 1.1 - added luma_cap option
# 1.0 - initial release
#

I added the section for you, albeit blank.

You can edit the whole page, scroll to the bottom, and just add "==Section Title=="

That will add a new section, that will automatically be numbered for you.

when I watch the movie with vlc I can chose between the two audio streams. After the text "Track 1" and "Track 2" the language is quoted like this: "Track 2 - [English]". That's why I thought "track name" is used 'cause I - obviously stupidly - entered here "English" and "Deutsch".

However, the audio streames are still switched. If I chose "Deutsch" (german) as the first one (and define track language as "ger") and "English" as the second one ("eng") vlc shows this in the right order ("Track 1 - [Deutsch]" and "Track 2 - [English]").
But when I chose one, I get the wrong one. The first is English and the second German.

Thanks for the advice. I got as far as opening it in DGIndex and seeing "bottom" - then I got confused because I can't see much interlacing in MplayerC. I did analyze the VOB in AutoGK earlier, and found this in the log:
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Source has percentage of interlacing in motion areas: 29.71
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Source has percentage of telecined patterns: 47.65
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Source has percentage of progressive patterns: 35.42
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Source has percentage of interlaced patterns: 16.93
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Source is considered to be hybrid (mostly NTSC).
[27/07/2007 03:39:51] Looking for optimal hybrid thresholds.
[27/07/2007 03:39:59] Found threshold of: 1.96

and then this command:
Telecide(movie,guide=1,post=2).Decimate(mode=1,threshold=1.96)

Does this mean I should be using decimate? Does the analysis from AutoGK give any clues as to what deinterlacing to use?

Anyway, thanks again for the tips!

Mikity

Possibly, means you might need decimate or film (they're both the same).

Play it in a different player. Play a high motion scene in mplayer, then pause it then to a frame by frame (arrow keys). You should be able to tell then. If some of the frames are progressive (no interlacing artifacts) and some of them are interlaced, decimate it is.

And Bottom means BFF, select that in AutoMKV+decimate if thats what you need.

Same problem. Except the fact that the mpc doesn't play the video part due to the following error:

"Media player classic could not render some of the pins in the graphh you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on your system. The follwing pins failed to find a connectable filter. "movie.mp4::GPAC ISO video handler"

Audio plays fine ... but still switched.

What's weird is that this problem doesn't occur every time. Only with some (most of) the ripped DVDs. Maybe there's a problem with the IFO parsing?

Hi all,

I tried this program again today, after a horrible experience in the very early stages of development. All I can say is it's looking and working VERY well now! Well done, and keep up the good work!

So that being said, I have a question: how can I force this program to only do one pass? I created my own profile (the hard way, editing XML), but cannot for the life of me figure out how to control if this thing does 1/2/3 passes on the video. Can that be set?

Thanks!

Is AutoMKV using --trellis 2 for the first pass of a two pass encoding?
I read about it here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1028772#post1028772)

Drop down the profile box.
Some of the profiles are 1pass_xxx (xxx being fast, high performance, etc...)

You can check the box "all profiles" too and select "one pass good quality" from there. I assume you can also do 1 pass CRF encoding too (never tried it).
IMO the built in profiles are pretty dam good. You can tweak it though too in the Advanced Profile Editing tab (like add AQ, change deblocking options, etc...)

Furthermore, if your thinking about 3 passes, don't. You don't need it. There is no quality gained. The only reason you would ever need 3 passes is if the first 2 passes miss the desired file size and overshoot on it (which AutoMKV doesn't do, AFAIK).

Oh, I understand all about x264 - I'm an meGUI veteran. I created my own profile loosely based on Sharktooth's HQ-slow and put it in the profiles/x264 folder. I can select the profile, but cannot find a way of telling it to do 1/2 passes with that profile.

@jefrey

found the error (is due to no filter, no resize, no colormatrix...) fixed in next release, now add a filter at least , i suggest to apply an undot()

@InorganicMatter
how can I force this program to only do one pass?

for 1 pass CRF change <EncodingMode> to 9
for 1 pass bitrate based change <EncodingMode> to 0
for 2 pass bitrate bsaed change <EncodingMode> to 4

no option for 3 pass is present

@wizboy11
Is AutoMKV using --trellis 2 for the first pass of a two pass encoding

trellis is used only in second pass (on 2 pass profile, not used in first pass) as specified by profile

2 pass balanced = trellis 1
2 pass better = trellis 1
2 pass extreme = trellis 1
2 pass insane = trellis 2

Thanks! I spent weeks creating and tweaking a high-quality profile in meGUI that converted at ~60fps and only needs one pass to look good. I used an XML comparison tool against one of the included profiles and "imported" my meGUI profile into AutoMKV. Converted a movie last night to compare the quality, this one by and far is much better looking than Nero AVC and much easier to use than meGUI. I'm very happy. :)

To reproduce:

1) Click the [!!!] button in the "audio track 1" properties section in the first tab, and then set the Nero Profile from "AUTO" to "LC".
2) Close the audio properties dialog.
3) Open it again.
4) The Nero Profile has now been reset to "AUTO".

Now I haven't actually checked to see whether the resulting audio is actually encoded as "Low Complexity" (recommended for XBox playback BTW), 'cause I'm not sure how to do that yet.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Using: v0.87 on Win2003 Server SP2, Intel Core2 6400, 1Gig Ram.
Encoding to MP4, x284, xbox_hiRes profile, 1300mbps, Nero AAC LC audio.

It may go back to "auto" in the settings page but it is really gonna use whatever you last selected. Baffled me a few times two when I tried using HE profile. I selected it, then went back into settings to make sure that it was on and it was back to auto. So your not alone. But it does use whatever you last selected, I've tested that for sure.

As long as you don't go back into settings, it'll use the last one selected. This goes for .87 or any version for that matter (AFAIK).

And if your gonna playback on an xbox I'd recommend ogg as your audio choice and xvid as your video. Xvid+AAC should be alright though. AVC (h264/x264) is what kills playback on the xbox.

I got this error message when encoding: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4317/help1ag7.jpg

Also, if would be helpful if someone made another thread/site giving their own tut's on how encode anime/movies. Also to better explain the resizers. For instance, what does the Bicubicresize do, or the Simpleresize. What are the pros and cons of those? I was an AutoGK user, and when I heard that it wasn't being developed further, I started searching for another encoder. I found this and it looked like a godsend. But, it lacks the in-depth explanation of features, and lack of tut's for encoding. Also, the filters. Just what does each of them do, exactly? For major anime/movie encoders, these are important questions. But I do like how it is moving along, and any help will be appreciated.

Just manually select the deinterlacer for now. (run the "test deint" next to the deinterlacer options, that option should still work, read page two pages back, I think it's on that page)

I'll make a page on the wiki I guess about what your asking. That sound alright? :) (but tomorrow, I'm tired :p, maybe later)

hey buzz,

thanks for writing such a great program! i tried automkv again this time with reinstalled windows .net and it worked! however, i still have some minor issues as posted http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=128407
would you be able to help me out? either post here or there is fine. here is what i wrote:

i managed to get it working! the problem was with staxrip. i didnt properly try automkv before giving up, as it kept on crashing. i realise the problem is that it needs windows .net 2.0. once downloaded i can encode properly, with audio in sync.

automkv is a much better program as well, with a better interface. also, loading an ifo makes more sense that loading all the vob files and then cutting.

however, the subtitles are out of sync. both movies i did were 13000ms out of sync (approx). this isnt too bad a problem as i can fix it via adding delay, but do you know why? i tried playing it back using VLC, zoom player and media player on 2 diff comps. Same problem.

could this be caused by codecs installed on the encoding machine? i am uninstalling all codecs and simply installing the CCCP to encode again and see tonight.

also, i noticed for one movie there is a slight audio delay (apocalypto 1000ms). again easily fixed via adding delays in the decoder, but i am wondering why?

thanks

@buzzqw

I have built x264 and xvidcore.dll that I think are faster then the ones currently included. I built x264 for myself, but I decided to build them both for AutoMKV.

I know for a fact that x264 is slightly faster (like 1-3%, thanks probably to newer GCC optimizations). Haven't tested xvid core, should also be slightly faster, at least on my Opteron it was.

Both were built using the newest GCC 4.2.1.
You can find them *link removed, see below*

The Nero Profile has now been reset to "AUTO".

as reported in Wiki Also, every time you will open this window the values will be reset, but don't be afraid, after set values first times AutoMKV will remember these values till next open of Advanced Audio Settings

and i don't want change this behavior

@Nightshiver
first of all Welcome to the Forum!

i am sorry but wizboy11 is in error.
This problem is due to "temp" folder
it is simply a crash on bautodeint...

on "avi" source seems that bautodeint is more prone to crash on analysis... but i can suggest this... if your file is avi is probably that it is already deinterlaced... so in advanced settings, on deinterlacer set NONE

about resizer: is short words the list of deinterlacer are in order of precision... from less precise (blurring) to most precise (sharpen)
about filters for anime.. i an not a anime encoder (at all) so i can suggest only the obvius filters like convolution3d (preset for anime) , deen and cnr2

@peter_h
The VirtualDubMod.exe process remains in the process list (Task Manager) even after AutoMKV is closed.
automkv launch virtualdub with autoclose option
i suppose that something gone wrong in muxing and so virtualdubmod remained open... (aka i need more information for debug)

@Daedalus01
is that it needs windows .net 2.0
automkv don't need any framework!

and... all your delays are due to heavy anticopy protections of those dvd (as said try using fixvts or vobblanker in movie only mode)

@wizboy11

thanks for the build i will test it
for x264 is included the new aq patch ?
and for xvid the fix for b frames decoding ?

Uses the same source as Cef's 667b so it's using whatever patches he uses (like AQ).

I'm questioning what option to use for the march though seen here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1029159#post1029159)
It doesn't use SSE after all but thats only like 1% and since most of it is written in asm anyway it doesn't really affect it.

I'm wondering, do you want sse in the x264 build in automkv?
You can get generic (non-sse) ones here. (http://www.esnips.com/doc/d77f6245-c802-4d57-9dcc-4bbaebc32872/builds2)
Probably better then the ones I posted before (also, run --version on x264 ;))

here your errors

14:51:20 Using Matrix: ustomQuantizerMatrix
you have played manually with the matrixs... and

this matrix doesn't exist...

14:51:20 Track Language 1: NONE

no audio selected... for avi select the movie name as audio track

Eh? I never even messed with the matrixes. I didn't alter anything in the advanced settings tab, so I really don't know how that happened. As for the audio, it said that in the Audio Track 1 I had an audio source selected. Here's a pic: http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/5203/help1zw8.jpg

PS: I found out the matrix problem. I guess I must have selected custom by accident. I set it to NONE now.

I'm getting that as my matrix too, but only sometimes. But I always mess with mine so it's normally not a problem I guess.
I think it might be reproducible.
Select Xvid as the encoder then select 2 pass insane quality. Then go into advanced settings and you should see it.

Bug maybe?

Edit:
Why am I getting this (all the frames, even on a default, nothing changed version, and it doesn't minimize either.):
http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/5867/xvidgd1.jpg

Edit2:
This is only present in v0.88, I've tested 0.87 and it's fine (and the problem appears no matter what settings, even if I change the xvidcore.dll with one that I've build, it still happens.

Unless this is all on purpose. But I guess I just don't like it if it is :)

Bug maybe?

in insane profile is missing < in matrix.. so it's bug!
fixed in next full package

now simply edit the 2_Pass_Insane_Quality.xml and modify
this <CustomQuantizerMatrix>NONECustomQuantizerMatrix> to this <CustomQuantizerMatrix>NONE<CustomQuantizerMatrix>

@wizboy11

.... ... you should see this
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/7294/clipboard01qa4.png
as for x264..

and it doesn't minimize either.):

what are your settings ?

can someone tell me why,if i use ffmpeg in the avs script, the encoder encode only 90000 frames instead of 190000? thats suckz really.because ffmpeg = mp4 (hd) works on ps3 and directshowsource = mp4 didnt work
there is no trim or other commands in the avs ;(

buzzqw

update to latest FFmpegSource DLL http://ivtc.org/new/FFmpegSource.rar http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127037

the 1.5 fixing could do the job

in next full update of automkv i will update to 1.5

nice news, i will try it later an report :)

I didn't realize that it used a stats thing like x264.
I always uncheck the "use x264 stats" so I guess thats why I'm getting that.

Is there a way to get back the old xvid command line without all the frames showing (like when you uncheck "use x264 stats" it changes something?)
And when you uncheck "stats" neither x264 or xvid minimize (if thats what they're suppose to do, I don't know)

Thanks.

BTW, I think that ffmpegsource is up to v1.6 now isn't it?

buzzqw

Is there a way to get back the old xvid command line

ok!

yes , 1.6!

i added a check in next update that will check for ffmpegsource library in \windows\system32 (crc32)

and if found different from those in \exe\encoder will offer to copy

i fell guilty ;)

... ... i added vfw support...

is possible to use 1pass or 2 passes, user must set the bitrate... but before encoding a pop-up will inform of the computed average bitrate and will allow to reopen the vfw interface and re-save with correct bitrate

wait next update!

...tsk, tsk... this is dangerous! :) btw... any chance to get bitrate value auto-inserted in the HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1202660629-1275210071-682003330-1003\Software\GNU\ffdshow_enc\bitrate1000 key? :D

i know the xvid bitrate key too..
but since "it's limited supported" i don't want to edit registry

even more.. i don't know what codec users have selected (well i don't to know... now ;) )

Ohh gawwwwsh, please don't do that! Once you start down that path, there is no turning back, and supporting that ancient technology is just ASKING for trouble and headaches. Please, please, please don't ruin this perfect piece of software.

is more or less what users usully do with virtualdub

i simply put a convenient interface for building the avs scritp and muxing...

as i said it will be a limited support, aka very low priority in bug fixing

also .. due to codec configuration done only by user this will incentivate the non usage... (i hope)

in my test i only used xvid , divx 6.0.x and VP7.. in both matroska and avi without hassle

P.S. ... i a raptus.. i have thinked even to add hcenc support ...

...maybe you can even hide that option behind some strange leftCtrl+rightAlt+shift+F12 combination! ;)

Wow... AutoMKV has quickly become to be quite an encoding beast :D

Have you given any thought to creating an "AutoMP4" only encoding application, for all of us .MP4 container enthusiasts?

Offering support for MPEG-4 Part-2 (using Xvid), MPEG-4 Part-10 (using x264) video, AAC-LC and HE audio (using CT) and VOBsubs...... Like a free-to-use Recode2 buster ;)

Just a thought

Thanks for the software. This is shaping very nicely.
Anyway, a while back there were some issues with multichannel (5.1) encoding from ac3 to wma that I thought were fixed - but I still can't get it to work. it looks like the intermediate wav file is of the right format. That is, it is multichannel, and I can feed it to, for example, windows media encoder, to convert to wma multichannel format. But when I try to manually create avs file where the wav file is opened by directshowsource, and feed it to wvcmd.vbs - I get an error which says something along the lines: 'not in the correct format'.
And I can't get ffmpegsource working at all - I'm not sure if it would help anyway. First, ffmpegsource should be loaded via load_stdcall_plugin (I think, per ffmpegsource documentation) - which is not what automkv seems to be doing. But even if I do that avisynth still complains that the plugin could not be loaded.
Any comments? Has anyone successfully encoded ac3 to 5.1 wma via AutoMKV?

Doesn't AutoMKV already allow muxing into mp4?

And I agree. AutoMKV has become quite the encoding monster. I think it's easy to use but offers some very powerful features if you know how to use them. I think AutoMKV suits both the professional and n00b alike. Personally, I think it's better then MeGui.

I never used AutoMKV untill about v0.74 so I guess I'll never know were it truly came from. But even from .74, it's come a long way.

All hail buzzqw, the AutoMKV GOD!!! :p

Go into ffdshow audio decoder->Codecs-> Change uncompressed to "all supported" then try directshowsource again with the wav file.
You can also use wavsource:
WAVSource("C:\Audio\audio.wav")

Explained here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1027951&highlight=ffmpeg#post1027951
FIXED: Neither libsndfile-1.dll or fftw3.dll or all library needed to ffmpegsource will be need to put in systems folder. But if script is opened (virtualdub/mpc...) after automkv was close , will be some errors. Now AutoMKV will set a tempoary PATH variable for those files. Only for Preview is needed to copy those file.

Added:
I just copied all the ffmpeg libraries to the system32 folder and it is working for me.

Cool. :) It's not that we don't appreciate you adding support into AutoMKV, it's just that I'm in software development too and I know that as soon as you add an official feature, the bug reports start flooding in and your time to make new innovations gets chipped away by fixing bugs in supporting old technology. I just don't want AutoMKV to get dragged down like that.

Hi buzzqw,:)

THANKS ... I checked for those files under my System32 ... I did not see them ... but heck I have no problem running your AutoMKV program smoothly off of my 2.5" External Hard Drive ... so I guess I have no problems.

here the hcenc

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9716/clipboard02lc0.png

automkv will take the avs, compute the bitrate (or apply the specified), to the audio encoding and then go to hcenc. Point.

BTW i suggest to use Manual Crop ... to set correct resolution...

no muxing will be done, the movie.m2v will sit in temp folder (as audio), so don't delete it

i have add this mainly because to have a unique frontend for avi->dvd, i can now process audio with Aften and video with HCenc

and with MuxMan building a dvd is very easy!

Can we download the version with HCEnc support yet or did I got it wrong?
Thank you and all the best :)

no no.. i just upload the image (png!) to show how is supported

HCenc will be present ufficially in NEXT update (and for your pleasure http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV088a.exe this build has HCEnc support, it's an alpha build! but working)

i will not include hcenc.exe in package, just download the hcenc0.21.zip and put in automkv \exe\encoder the HCenc_021.exe RENAMED as HCenc.exe

start AutoMKV088a.exe, load your avi/mov/d2v.. as usually, hit CTRL F10 and now in CODEC you will see HCenc

set resizer (i suggest manual crop&resize for achive correct resolution) , audio as you want (Aften rulez), set the Disk Settings (Hcenc will use the bitrate computed by AutoMKV o rpsecifyed in advanced settings), set deinterlace as you want.. and start!

at end in \temp folder you will have your movie.m2v file!

EDIT: you need latest ffmpegsource build (1.6) (unzip in \exe\encoder and put ffmpegsource.dll in \exe\filter) or everytime you launch automkv it will ask to copy in \system32 folder

EDIT2: this build has also vfw support.. (CTRL F9)

Maybe 1-pass constant quantizer in HCEnc?

I think that you should put colormatrix back to were it use to be with hints=true.

I read it here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1030645#post1030645) that colormatrix should be used right after the source or right after deinterlacing, not at the end of the script. (and hints=true will slow it down, but not by much).

buzzqw

@jeffy

no, 1 pass CQ will be not present in this release (maybe in future release)

@wizboy11

hints = true is to use only when colorimetry change accross the file, else a direct conversion is ok

right after the source
it has an impact on performance around 5-10%

from my test even applying colormatrix as last filter doesn't prevent its functionality

Go into ffdshow audio decoder->Codecs-> Change uncompressed to "all supported" then try directshowsource again with the wav file.
You can also use wavsource:

The problem is not that the file cannot be opened by directshowsource (and therefore could be helped by using wavsource). The problem seems to be that directshow filters and avisynth appear not to support WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE tag(?) needed to properly handle multichannel wav. I can't quite get what the result of the discussion ultimately is, but here's where the issue is explained: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=992916#post992916

So I was wondering, in practice, has anyone actually succesfully encoded from dvd to multichannel wma with AutoMKV?

Explained here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1027951&highlight=ffmpeg#post1027951
FIXED: Neither libsndfile-1.dll or fftw3.dll or all library needed to ffmpegsource will be need to put in systems folder. But if script is opened (virtualdub/mpc...) after automkv was close , will be some errors. Now AutoMKV will set a tempoary PATH variable for those files. Only for Preview is needed to copy those file.

Added:
I just copied all the ffmpeg libraries to the system32 folder and it is working for me.
yah, this is bit strange. First, the instructions seem to indicate I should have ffmpegsource.dll in ....\system32 yet the AutoMKV tries to load ffmpegsource.dll from ...AutoMKV\exe\filter\ directory. I suppose I should have ffmpegsource.dll in that filter directory as well?
And according to this:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1028654#post1028654 and subsequent response http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1028659#post1028659 ffmpegsource is a C-type avisynth plugin, so it needs to be loaded not via LoadPlugin, but via load_stdcall_plugin.
As you can see I'm deeply confused.. Comments?

BHH

Yea, but what if I wanted to tweak the color or use hdragc?
I would want colormatrix before that right?

I suppose what I could do then is check the "don't use colormatrix" then manually add it back in the beginning when I edit base.avs and then just put tweak after it. I'll do this since I rarely ever use tweak anyway.

I guess I'll do that. Furthermore, how do I get hints=true to work. I know that AutoMKV already uses info=3 on mpeg2source, but I think I have to add something to the colormatrix line too right?
Like this right? I figure I can just throw this under #test3
#test3
movie = ColorMatrix(movie,mode="Rec.709->Rec.601",hints=true,threads=0)

Thanks. For general purpse the way you have it is fine. I wasn't thinking right when I posted it. I forgot I could disable colormatrix then just manually add it.

Yea. There are ways around certain things I've found.

I like using AutoMKV because it'll create the script all for you. I'm sure that at this point I could probably just write my own and send it through something like megui. But I just like the ease of use AutoMKV offers.

If you use avs as your input, will automkv just use that script and it won't add anything else?

As far as 5.1 wma - I followed the wiki to the point. It just doesn't work for me. I posted question on this topice on the 'Can Avisynth output WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE?' thread: see the response here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1030773#post1030773. I do not know what to think anymore....
As far as avisynth - when you say version 2.57+ - do you mean a version greater than 2.57? If so, where would I get it from? I can only find 2.57 version exactly....
finally, would using ffmpegsource to open wav file help at all? I can't try becasue it does not work me either - I can't seem to be able to get ffmpegsource open wav file. Ideas?

Well, 0.88a no longer crashes during the interlace analysis - thanks!

However, I do get this weird error message:

BREAK ! FILE NOT SUPPORTED ! LAST TRY WITH FFMPEG !!!

The encoding then happens in a command window, as opposed to the status box in 0.88. I remember a someone else asking about this same error message somewhere higher up in this thread. Can someone clarify what is happening here? If it makes any difference, I'm trying to encode a VOB to x264.

YES! Not filter or resizer, neither colormatrix...

just remember (for a quicker encoding) to disable deinterlace, and to set resizer to none, if not done automkv will do deinterlace test.. and will not apply it.. and will do the compression test... not applying it later!

@jmnk

the ffmpegsource.zip point to latest version 1,6 (check you cache)

when you say version 2.57+
i mean 2.57 or more

and about WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE isn't needed that avisynth out that format, since i use SoundOut to output this format, BUT is needed that audio decoder (namely FFDSHOW) is able to decode that stream

I've been recommending AutoMKV to people over on the Ziova forum, who want to generate MPEG-4.2 + AAC-LC in .MP4 encodes for use with their Z500, CS505 and CS510 hardware players.

Sufficed to say, enthusiasts like us (on this forum), have grown accustom to using many of the features AutoMKV has to offer as it's development has grown. However, I do feel newbies might find all these features a little daunting and might be put off. Which would be a great shame!

Cheers

i'm looking to covert a few 720p mkv files to wmv hd for playback on xbox 360. i was previously using tmpgenc xpress 4.0 to accomplish this. however, i came across automkv and would like to give it a try.

fair enough and thanks for the fast response.

for the video, do i just set the resizer to "original" to maintain the original resolution or should i leave it on "automatic"? also, the mkv's contain 720p video, what should i set the deinterlace settings to if i have no desire to change the format, set it to "none"?

and as far as 5.1 goes, does it read the .ac3/.dts track directly from the mkv, or do i need to first extract it? also, do i need to set audio track 1 to "original" or are other changes required?

again, thanks

if you want to maintain the 720p you must select ORIGIAL as Width, automatic is for autoresize based on compression test

what should i set the deinterlace settings to if i have no desire to change the format, set it to "none"?

exactly! if your source are already progressive set it to none (or progressive)

and as far as 5.1 goes, does it read the .ac3/.dts track directly from the mkv, or do i need to first extract it?
automkv is able to read directly from your mkv file, but since it used a directshow based interface ,be sure that ffdshow or ac3filter is set to output 5.1 ... not stereo!

need to set audio track 1 to "original" or are other changes required
if you don't want do do any downmixing leave original, if you want stereo track select stereo (and so on)

Yeah, that's cool. I know the error will be in the source, but I'd rather have it continue the one bogus conversion than stop my whole batch process. Maybe you can make it skip that conversion and go to the next one? Either way, supression would be great, and maybe an error in the log. :)

Does AutoMKV generate a log even if it crashes? I'd like to submit if possible.

Just installed v0.88 and it either crashes when starting the DGIndex application (when doing a dvd transcode of course by opening an IFO file), or stalls during audio normalization when an AviSynth pop-up appears on screen.

Hey, going back to that DGIndex error: how come when I launch DGIndex myself and demux my stuff manually, it will automatically correct the field order ("Field Order was corrected...")? Does it disable that automatic correction when run from command line?

I understand this issue is out of your playing field and I hope I don't come of as a jackass; just curious, that's all.

UPDATE - I downloaded DGIndex versions 1.4.9 and 1.4.8. When is finishes indexing my DVD, 1.4.8 says "Field Order Corrected, the original version was saved with extension .bad" When 1.4.9 finishes indexing, it simply notifies me that my source order is incorrect and I should use the fixer tool. Why would this be de-automated? What would happen if I moved back to 1.4.8, would AutoMKV still work?

yes, the log is always made, look for a file named as your input file.log (like vts_01_1.log)

it not stalls... is doing audio normalization analysis and can take till 15 minutes for a 2 hour film

afaik i don't use any options that suppress the correction

automkv could live well even with dgindex 1.4.8 (or 1.4.7 and below). you need to put (overwriting) dgindex.exe in \exe\dgindex folder and put (overwriting again) dgdecode.dll in \exe\filter folder
