look at muxing.bat, or launch from dos
is sub/idx present ?
analyze the muxed file with avinaptic , is it reporting any subs stream ?
It shouldn't because I'm telling it to burn the subtitles into the video. If I uncheck burn subtitles I get a separate subtitle stream.
But no, there is no subtitle being muxed into the final video because I'm trying to burn the subtitle into the video.

Alright, I'm messing around with it at work and I think I figured out what my problem was, at least with the tests I was making. What I was doing as a test was cutting out a particular chapter from a movie and testing that. What I didn't realize was that the program wasn't adjusting the time values for the subtitles. I dropped the cc file into notpad and noticed that the values were relative to the beginning of the movie and not the beginning of my clip. So encoding never got to the point in time where the subs were to be displayed because the clip was much shorter than that.
It still doesn't explain why it wasn't working at home. I'll have to mess around with it when I get home. Probably do a similar test there that worked here. Basically what I ended up doing was instead of taking the particular chapter out I ripped from the beginning of the movie till the end of that chapter. That way the time codes for the subs lined up correctly.

cool this is awesome, i've had great results with the integrated version a few hiccups with non-rip but thats ok cas daemon tools lets you mount 4 images :D.
I've already stacked up a pile of favorites out of my dvd box ready to re-encode!! :)
a few quirks i have come across
-when encoding fiddling with menu hotboxs causes crash (horribly sad towards end of 2nd pass) :(
-sometimes queued items encode then vanish (say if i encode 15 jobs with carbon copy settings 2 of them might not make it where they go i dont know)
with the non-rip i have many many different input errors with dgindex and pcg-something saying VOB ends too early.
I've had a case where i encoded 20mins but ended up with a 30min file with the last 10 minutes a different (previous encoded) source with a different aspect ratio 16:9 (the resulting mkv was 4:3 like the intended source)
Oh BTW these quirks are on XP Pro x64 (reinstalled a week ago)
Anyways great program!! It's so fast to que up items with the same settings and I love this anamorphic x264 quality!!:thanks:
also... itd be great if you could enter video information into the description areas

Ok, I figured out my burn subtitle problem. I believe the problem was that I had Directvobsub installed from a codec package and by itself. I uninstalled it and unregistered both DLL's. Then registered the VSfilter.dll that came with AutoMKV and it's working now.
I have a different issue on a particular DVD though. After DVD Decrypter rips it DGIndex gets some kind of error about not finding any video or audio and that it can't find any PIDs. Very weird. Any ideas? The only reference I found to the error on the internet was saying that an older version of DGIndex didn't have the issue but the latest one did. Not sure if it was actually a different problem though.

unable to encode in my limited knowledge would mean a codec problem but that is not the case all these files play in WMP. So I know I have the codec.

automkv is primary a 1 job at time application. Queuing is supported but using the main interface while encoding is highly not recommed
every job in queue is processed, if something "vanish" i can only suppose a problem of of source and so a bad encoding, looking at log could give some hints
Anytime you have same issue with dgindex, try making the d2v manually and then feed automkv with this file, it's a very secure way of encoding

I'm pretty sure everything encoded as normal. because i had it happen to me once without a que and i just muxed audio.mp4 and movie.mp4 with mkvmerge and the resulting file was sweet. but next time it occurs i'll save the log..

if yes, check on advanced settings: "DSS for A/V"
if NO, the file is not supported

Yes I have set up Windows media player with ffdshow audio and video and Haali Media splitter - I would be surprised if there is an audio or video file i cannot play.
By DSS A/V you mean "DSS x video" and then "DSS x audio" if yes I have done that.

Ok, there is definitely something wrong with that version of DGIndex. If I manually load the very same VOB file into DGIndex 1.4.9 it loads fine. The very same VOB file loaded into 1.5.0 RC2 gives the error that it can't find any audio or video data. Of course, I did try dropping the older version into the exe folder but that didn't seem to work. I got some other error and it hadn't extracted the audio at all.
Back to subtitles. As I said I got it to work on my home computer. But now I've run into a couple movies with subs where the timing is all off. One movie the video and audio are synced but the subtitles are about 30sec off. The other movie the audio and subtitles are synced but the video is a couple seconds off. Very weird. Any ideas?

Is there a way to change the process priority to some degree?
I have a 3.0GHz QUAD CPU with 4 GB of 800 Mz RAM and it absolutely *pins* all 4 CPU's when it starts processing a 264 file.
It would be nice to at least browse the internet when encoding! :-)
Also, is there a way to take the elemental streams from a ts file and simply wrap them ins something like mkv? (ie: do not re-encode.) I see that you can copy the original audio track.... could we not do that for video too?
(BTW: if we are copying the audio file, then why are we able to change the quality fader?)
Otherwise, it looks like an awesome tool!
:thanks:

First of all Welcome to the Forum!
and thanks for your kind words :)
the x264, as near all application launched by automkv (by a better degree in next build) are launched in IDLE priority.. so borwsing.. should be ok
about other question ... you cannot do it by automkv BUT can use mkvmerge
install mkvtoolnix and use the excellent mmg.exe (the gui to mkvmerge) to remux your file
about: change quality.. it doesn't matter, it's simply ignored on copy audio

Hi buzzqw,
You are certainly welcome! :)
My point is, that my CPU's are each pinned at 100% - which makes it difficult to do anything. At one point I tried to open explorer to browse through some files - the window took bout 30 seconds to populate properly. Eventually I pressed "q" on the CMD window and after a couple of seconds, control was returned to me...
I have mkvMerge v2.1.0 and it does not import ts files - have they changed this recently? (That was the first thing I tried!)
Thanks for your help too! :)

You can specify the number of threads to use on the Advanced Profile Editing tab. Threads equals cores. Set it to 2 or 3 depending on the number of cores you want available for other tasks.

There's something a bit squirrelly about the sub ripper. On several DVD's I've had it result in subtitles that pop up at the wrong times. Handbrake works perfectly with subtitles. I'm not sure what's going on because I've had subtitles appear too soon on one and too late on another. I would guess that there's a problem with applying the correct amount of delay in sequencing the subtitles. But that's just a guess based on my own personal observation.

I seem to be getting a similar to darbid's problem. For some reason, AutoMKV does not want to encode audio with aac (neither Nero nor Codingtech, and I'm sure I have both). I had been using AutoMKV for months, encoding audio with aac and never encountered a problem, but now all of a sudden, after I reinstalled Windows and made sure I installed the exact same codecs and everything else that I had before, it just does not wanna work. I got a new mobo/cpu (that's why I reinstalled), but I doubt that this had an effect on the audio encoding. There has to be something I'm missing, but I just can't figure out what it is. Please, help. Here's what happens:

@Encoder888

Oh my God, I finally figured it out, sorry for bothering you buzzqw. With my old mobo/cpu I used the file neroAacEnc_SSE.exe by renaming it to neroAacEnc.exe and moved it to the BeSweet folder and everything worked just fine... For some reason I thought it was "better" just cause the file was bigger, which is obviously not the case. But this doesn't work with my current processor, which is a Phenom by the way, and I guess it's because of the SSE4 instructions. So all I had to do was use the actual file named neroAacEnc.exe instead and everything works like a charm. Thanks and can't wait for 0.95 final release.
Oh and by the way - for anybody who encodes movies all the time, especially with H.264 / x264, the Phenom is DEFINITELY the way to go. x264 utilizes all four cores, it absolutely blazes through movies. I'm able to x264 encode at 80fps WHILE playing Call of Duty 4 smoothly, it is simply amazing and for less than $200. AMD scored again with this magnificent processor.

@darbid
What happens if you demux your *.ts file into it's elementary streams, and then load them into AutoMKV? Does the audio encode properly then?
I generally record HDTV into *.ts file and then process through ProjectX to remove adverts and demux. This also fixes up any errors in the streams that I have - some of which aren't noticeable if I play the *.ts file but can break any attempts to encode the streams. Don't know if your dealing with a captured source or not, but trying the above might help narrow where the problem lies.

so a few more q's...
when i make my own d2v to feed automkv, i have to supply ripped subtitles aswell?
when cropping automkv wants to resize everything, but i dont want to apply any resize filters, how can i get it to chop say a 720x576 4:3 source L:6 R:6 T:1 B:3 708x572pixels (756x572 anamorphic)
oh now i've come across one that the integrated one dont like and neither via dvd decrypter or dvdfab =D so i've had to d2v it
cheers.. :)
EDIT- also is there a way to add more than 1 .srt subtitle? or should I just leave that for afterwards with mkvmerge?

Thanks Taddeusz - THreads did the trick!
I have the latest version of mkvmerge GUI and it does not as input, use ts files:
"Error: The file "Path/Filename" has been detected as a MPEG transport stream. The file format is not supported by mkvmerge."
Are there other tools that will allow me to take the streams and wrap them in a (ideally mkv) container without re-encoding?
I'm a bit of a nubie in this area - does this require demuxing the audio and video elemental streams, and then re-muxing those files?
Finally, If I'm suspect on the validity of a source ts file, is there a way (tool), to use the R-S codes to check for errors? (I believe that the ts file was created from an DVB broadcast.) AutoMKV seems to think that there is a problem with the audio.

@gaspah

yes!
after feeding d2v automkv ask for 2 audio (or press cancel if don't want audio), then you can press multiple time for external subtitle, for loading several external subtitle files
and about cropping.. why not use manual resize/crop ?

have you tried checking Use ProjectX ?

yeah i was trying to do that but didnt see "Use CFR for Autosize Routines" was ticked - lol
so yeah i used the version of dgindex supplied with automkv and this is what i get (i hadnt read your reply about subs and was going to put them in after).
Nothing i do to this rip works, automkv internal dvd decrypter only sees two pcg @ 10 seconds each (menus) the program doesnt recognise other decrypters ifo.. ugh drivin me batty :p

awesome.. i lurrrv this program now that i've gotten help with all my n00bish woes :p I couldn't wait to get home so i decided to encode from my work computer via remote desktop connection.. now i have a hopefully perfect dual-audio triple-softsub 4:3 anamorphic video waiting for me when i get home (dont have the bandwidth to upload it to myself).. i think i'll move up to the beta now that i've found my feet (or had them found for me lol)
thanks buzzqw!

I have a quick question about encoding separately parts of a series of VOB files, which may not have separate .IFO files associated with them.
In other words, I'm trying to separately encode episodes of The Office, but the problem is that they're all under the same IFO as one series of VOBs instead of separate IFOs for each episode. So I have to encode all 4 or 5 episodes for each DVD as one file and then cut it into episodes with another tool. I was wondering if there was a way to avoid this, by having AutoMKV somehow only encode one episode at a time. Is there a way to extract this information.
Thanks @ AutoMKV Rulez

when ripping figure out what chapters are for which episode... episode 1 may be chapters 1-6 and episode 2 may be chapters 7-12... so select only these chapters when in dvd decrypter (in IFO mode) ... then you may still have to make a d2v with dgindex im guessing.. i've used this method many many times with autogk and i assume its the same for automkv...
funny i started ripping the office yesterday... lol (the bbc one not the knockoff usa one) and i plan to encode via automkv too :D i'll tell you how mine goes lol
BTW i use nero showtime to play the dvd and "display additonal osd information" and skip through to find out (a) exactly how long each episode is to the second (b) how many chapters and what the first and last chapter number is... all this can be found out in nero
oh but also.. i usually have a few problems getting subtitles ripped via this method... if anyone has pointers for that lol.. id like to hear it :D

@Encoder888 (& gaspah)
In all the episode discs I've seen where episodes are not in their own VTS, they are at least within their own PGC within the VTS. I'd therefore recommend:
ripping the disc to the hard drive first (I always do this anyway so don't know if the following will work if you use the decrypter version of AutoMKV - never used it)
in advanced setting tick "Process this IFO"
select the IFO of the episode as your input file
now in "Select PGC" dropdown choose the time for the episode you want to encode - they're listed in PGC order from memory (many, but not all, discs have the episodes in sequential PGC's)
select the audio and subtitle tracks you want (make sure to do this after choosing the PGC even if it seems to be showing the audio you want - I've encountered some hassles on occasion if I don't explicitly do this)
set output directory and other settings as desired, then add to queue
repeat the last two steps until you've queued up your episodes and then "Start Queue"

thanks zacos, worked like a charm... I didn't even notice the PGC option, since I had never ripped TV series before :)

I have an audio delay problem with a movie. I've tried DelayCut in 0.93a and I've tried all three options in the 0.95 beta and I always get a significant delay. Here's the code from 0.93a, using DelayCut. It all looks fine to me, so I have not been able to figure out what the problem may be... :-( Again, please consider that I've also tried all 3 options in 0.95, and let me know if you need to see the code for those. Thanks again :)

I tried that but must be doing something wrong...i have two files mallpicture.ts and smallsound.ac3 which i got from using tsmuxer with a m2ts file.
Below is the full log but the thing i find funny is this

This is tellin gme that it is trying to encode the picture file into ac3, of course it is not going to work because it is demuxed and there is no sound there.

@buzzqw
As this is my first post: thank you (+ all the contributors) for a very nice program. As far as I can tell, it is the most complete attempt for a universal encoder out there. :thanks:
Now to the business: some feedback about v0.95beta21:
(1) bug fix: compared to v0.93a, this version fixes for me the audio encoding crash I got under Windows 2003 (eXPerience edition SP2). The same program launched from Windows 2000 Pro (or from Windows 2003 but by starting VitualDubMod manually) runs fine, but under Windows 2003 I used to (almost) systematically get an 4Kb OOG or MP3 sound track.
question from a newbie: as the workaround with piping to ffmpeg seems to work, do you plan to make it the standard way ? (especially as VirtualDubMod does not seem to be maintained aynmore)
note from a newbie: I am under the impression that that bug might not be one: maybe it sometime just takes a very long time for the encoding to start generating output (buffering?)
(2) new bug: based on 2 films (of totally different origin), OOG-encoded sound tracks are systematically too long (original AC3 are fine), by a factor of 1.088 ... This seems to be the ratio between frequencies 48000 and 44100. I tried to force one or the other in the advanced audio panel, but no effect.

Is there a way to run processes at higher priority than automkv?. I am using 0.93a and my encoder (x264.exe) runs at lowest prio, just like automkv.exe and they are fighting for CPU time (both around 50% on c2d cpu). If I manually change the priority so that x264.exe is NORMAL then x264 gets most of the cpu cycles.
This is using mp4 container and x264 for video with nero (SEE3 version) for audio.
edit:
Also on Vista64 ultimate is there any speed to be gained from using 64bit versions of dgindex and x264 from here ? http://members.optusnet.com.au/squid_80/

Kool check out my installers for this AutoMKV 0.93a and RipBot264 \/\/down\/\/ in my signature... More are coming for other OSS and Closed Source software's.
PM me if you have any comments or concerns or if you have bugs with the installers...
PS the new 0.95beta21 can be accessed through the start menu if you would like to test the most recent version...:)

@nanorch
:confused: i'll check...
@Amir
... well usually users want able to do other things while encoding..
automkv priority isn't important since the work is done by encoder...
@Ajax_Undone
Excellent installer!
i hope soon to publish the definitive 0.95, feel free to update the installer to new build, i will link your installer in first post!
thanks

Thanks zacos
I tried that but must be doing something wrong...i have two files mallpicture.ts and smallsound.ac3 which i got from using tsmuxer with a m2ts file.
Below is the full log but the thing i find funny is this
This is tellin gme that it is trying to encode the picture file into ac3, of course it is not going to work because it is demuxed and there is no sound there.
I haven't had anything to do with m2ts files, and my only exposure to *.ts files are from HDTV captures which contain video and audio. I demux the *.ts files with ProjectX and end up with *.m2v and *.ac3 files that I feed into AutoMKV.

@darbid
Just looked quickly at TSMuxer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=134104) and it appears to be a muxing program, rather than a DEmuxing program, so that's possibly the issue.
Does TSRemux (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125447) demux from m2ts?

My point is, that my CPU's are each pinned at 100% - which makes it difficult to do anything. At one point I tried to open explorer to browse through some files - the window took bout 30 seconds to populate properly. Eventually I pressed "q" on the CMD window and after a couple of seconds, control was returned to me...
Did you ever try Process Lasso (http://www.wintricks.it/news2/article.php?ID=18643)?? It seems OK for you needs. :)

Hi!
First let me say, good job!
Now I have a question. I'm using the 0.93a version and everything is fine but when I add subtitles (.ass) nothing happens. It just says added external subs. But then I cannot choose them from the list the only option is NONE (I still tried encoding though and as you guessed no subs ;)).
Can this be fixed somehow?

buzzqw: subtitles work with .mkv but what about .avi (XViD)? I get this error when trying to add subtitles (using the burn option):
