Personally I would prefer to see the encode generated at 720x576 (ie: the same resolution as the source) with aspect ratio signalling at 64:45 applied... Or generated and cropped to 720x432 (ie: the black mattes cut away) with aspect ratio signalling at 64:45 applied....

Something like this (http://82.10.220.174/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/Xvid_720x432_with_ARS_@_64.45.7z)

ok, I encountered more errors when muxing :(

since v0.66 muxing of all files I encoded does not work, but when executing the command line taken from the log, mp4box does mux it (in log something like "Final Muxed size: -1 bytes" appears and processing stops)

(I was encoding from ifo file to x264 into mp4 container with one nero aac audio track)

Okay I have tested the revised CT encoder options using the new "Advanced Audio Options" menu....

http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/4382/automkvadvancedaudiooptub1.png

I've been able to generate AAC-LC streams but not AAC-HE :(

Also, may I ask what the "nops" "is" and "dc" Chanel options are?

Couple of problems with manual cropping in movie.avs file..

1) You have to fill all the manual crop boxes. If you just define top and bottom cropping limits for letterbox, you get incorrect crop command such as crop(movie,,116,-,-60)

2) if you have resize=lanzcos, "autocrop only" + define manual cropping limits, you get incorrect LanczosResize()-line.

@Nico.Laus.2001

from my test is ok... please post the log

@SeeMoreDigital

me too.... :o ...
where is the problem in comman line :confused: ?

--nops - Disable Parametric Stereo
--is - Prefer Independed Stereo
--dc - Prefer Dual Channels

@Barleyman
Crop must be valorized for all box, just put 0 for no lateral crop. (in next update on checking manual crop i will put 0 value to all boxes)
And manual cropping must not be used with "autocrop only" , using manual crop must be set width and height (i will study it to remove any possible cause of error)

I've found a bug with 0.66c with the clear job list button on the Queued Jobs tab.

I have 6 jobs in the queued list
queue0.ini
queue1.ini
queue2.ini
queue3.ini
queue4.ini
queue5.ini

When i press the Clear Job List button once it doesn't remove all the entries, 3 are still there.
queue1.ini
queue3.ini
queue5.ini

When i press the Clear Job List button a second time there is still one item left in the list
queue3.ini

On the third click on the Clear Job List Button everything is removed from the queue list.

i hope that makes sense;)

Good morning everyone \o/
Buzzqw may i suggest 1 feature for automkv??
I wonder if you could make it support MP4 and MKV input.
Thats my suggestion
Btw, 0.66c is working fine here \o/

@Unrealbr
it is already possible for mkv, on input select all files
for mp4... added in next release.
There one big problem, however, audio track. The file must have only one audio track.

THAT is gonna be a problem since the MKVs i'm trying to backup to save some space on the HD are dual audios with softsub in the MKV.
As for the MP4s i need to re-encode to save space i wont have problems when the next release is out, they have only one audio.

BTW, AutoMKV is the best MP4 GUI i have found so far, if you allow me i'd like to use and link in my signature for this thread here on DOOM9.

... i will explain better: the input mkv file could have many and more audio BUT i (the directshow) will use only the first one.
Also, subs will not be supported.

EDIT: I can suggest to encode the original mkv without audio (select NONE on audio). when finished open mmg.exe (from mkvtoonix) and put as input the new mkv and the OLD mkv, deselect audio/subs NOT not wanted AND old video, then MUX !

just for try.. rename it to .mkv and let automkv do its job :)

@buzzqw:
In response to your suggestion in another thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=930530#post930530) I downloaded AutoMKV and tried it for converting Mpeg2's (with mpeg audio) to Zune WMV's.

Looks like a great program and I was able to get good conversions after a short learning experience.

Now to comment on the program for my intended purpose, which is to convert a number of mpeg2 videos to good watchable quality on the 3" Zune device screen, in 320x240 WMV with parameters that do not trigger re-encoding by the Zune PC software when the files are 'synced' (transfered) to the Zune device:

I have converted to Zune using my own set of batch files and dgIndex, AviSynth and WME encoder (batch script), i.e., a simplified version of what your program does (no cropping, filtering, noise removal, delaycut, etc.). I've found that just using WMV7 codec and CBR=500kbps I get very good results and the total time for my process is about 40% of the video duration. All I do is type the names of the input files into my first batch file and start it.

For AutoMKV, it appears you can't just specify a constant bit rate but have to estimate a target output size that will yield the bit rate you desire. Is this correct? (Not very convenient for my particular purpose.)

By setting the desired output size in AutoMKV to a number calculated to give about 500 kbps (for video), using the single-pass Zune profile, and setting the filter to NONE, it took about 240% of video duration to create a file that did not appear noticeably better on playback than the same video processed by my (crude) fast process. The auto cropping did remove the noise line at the top -- I should probably add that to the AVS input process in my batch files.

The bottom line is I am very impressed with AutoMKV, and will undoubtedly use it for other purposes, but I do not see an advantage over my faster process (for my current purpose) -- unless I have just failed to properly use AutoMKV (?).

I tried to rig up an XML profile file that would cause AutoMKV to use WMV7 with the same simple options I use in my batch file but this didn't work, I think because I couldn't get rid of the advanced options in the WME script command line. My experience is that WMV7 is the key to the speed I get. When I run my same batch files with WMV9, it takes over twice as long.

:thanks: !

WMV7 codec and CBR=500kbps

that's the key. In my profile i use wmv9 ! in next update i will create 2 more "quick" profiles ! (with wmv7, and old profile wil be wmv8)

For AutoMKV, it appears you can't just specify a constant bit rate but have to estimate a target output size that will yield the bit rate you desire. Is this correct? (Not very convenient for my particular purpose.

in advanced settings check "Specified bitrate" (don't need to write 500000 for 500kbs bitrate, i will multiply by 1000)

about wmv7, nice to hear that's supported , i will look at this !

thanks for your suggestion !

First of all, THANK YOU for a great program! Was searching for a free AutoGK-like program for H.264 encodes, preferably in Matroska containers. Seems I found it and it looks like a winner.

Just some questions/comments/possible bugs:

1)
hi i try ts file 1080i DD5.1 to mkv+x264+original audio and program say Audio Error :"attention audio wasnt encoded properly" i have this problem on all ts files thnx m

Same thing happens here. Ripping for a dvd and selecting two AC3 tracks to be included creates a problem. Specifically, I select two audio tracks, filling the boxes for "audio track 1" and "audio track 2" and selecting "Copy Original"/"Original". The encoding process starts and the log indicates that indeed audio track 1 is the first ac3 track I've selected and audio track 2 is the 2nd ac3 track. However dgindex extracts only the first ac3 stream. When it finishes it reports "attention audio wasnt encoded properly".

2) I'm a bit confused with "Use CRF for autoresize" and "auto adjust crf". Are the two options incompatible? When I select both, it seems that at least during the sizing process a single x264 pass is made, using CRF and not a two-pass process. In essence, how should these options be checked/enabled/disabled for a good rip?

3) Assuming that "ITU resizing" is enabled does "anamorphic encoding" really work? Not sure here, just asking :)

4) A minor bug: if I press check drive once, it displays correctly the longest PGC. If I press it again, it displays in the PGC pull down box two times the same PCG. The same happens for episodic DVDs. In all cases pressing check dvd duplicates again and again the PGCs.

Once more, thanks for a great app, it has replaced nero digital as my application of choice

thanks for your kind words! :)

Same thing happens here. Ripping for a dvd and selecting two AC3 tracks to be included creates a problem.

Dgindex is UNABLE to demux two different audio tracks for TS files. For this reason i suggest lout to check "Use ProjectX for TS files"

For your problem i need the log file to better analyze the problem. Usually there is no problem to demux from vob files

2) I'm a bit confused with "Use CRF for autoresize" and "auto adjust crf".

The first option if to use with Automatic Width. Checking this option AutoMKV will use a quality based profile to find the "best" width given the media size selected.
The second option is to use only with CRF/CQ profiles encoding. Checking this option will allow automkv to do a crf encoding AND if size is bigger or smaller than XX the movie will be reencoded in costant bitrate mode

3) Assuming that "ITU resizing" is enabled does "anamorphic encoding" really work? Not sure here, just asking

yep... ITU works only if anamorphinc isn't checked (thanks for this bug!)

If I press it again, it displays in the PGC pull down box two times the same PCG

i will check it !

thanks !

Funny thing: with 0.66c I was unable to reproduce the problem. Better! :)

Thank you, I understand now :)

One more question: during the first execution of dvdfabdecrypter I was asked if I wanted to update. Should I? (I guess that if I do, it will not be installed into the AutoMKV directory, hence no point in actually downloading it).

I use AutoMKV to encode to stand alone player. I have to use avi (or divx container). If I don't want to use AC3 audio, I have to use CBR MP3.

I tried your version 066c and in advanced audio settings I changed to CBR, but I see it is encoded in VBR MP3.

Bug or function not implemented yet?

Hi Buzz,

Thanks for the new build :D

Just a thought.... How about modifying the "Audio Format" drop-down tab so you can directly select which variant of AAC audio you require (ie: "LC" or "HE"): -

By-the-way, I'm presuming the Lame (MP3) audio encoder is able to offer both mentioned variants....

@buzzqw:
The new Zune 1-Pass Quick profile works great! By turning off filters, deinterlacing and delaycut, and specifying a constant bitrate (500 for video + audio) I get total encoding times equal to what I was getting with my batch files, i.e., about 35% of video duration on my 3GHz PC. Plus I get the autocrop that wasn't in my batch files. As before with my batch files, the quality is perfectly acceptable for the Zune's 3inch screen. I converted mpeg2's with either mpeg1-layer2 audio or with Dolby AC3 5.1 with no problems.

:thanks:

A couple of questions:
1. I experimented with the default 64_44 audio then moved the audio bitrate up to 128. I noticed the WME option moved the sampling rate up too: 128_48. These seemed to play fine on my Zune device although the official Zune page specifying encoding videos for Zune (http://www.zune.net/en-us/support/howto/start/providecontent.htm#section6) says:
Maximum audio bit rate: WMA Standard, CBR, 128 Kbps (recommended), up to 192 Kbps, Stereo, 44.1 kHz
Thus I wonder if it wouldn't be safer to limit sampling rate to 44kHz for the Zune profiles? (I didn't see anywhere I could control this.)

2. If instead of autocrop I just wanted to blank out the top 1 or 2 (or 4) lines in the original (480 line) video, how would I set up the manual crop for that?

You have definitely removed any desire I had to generate a guide for my batch files! Now I'm thinking about a small guide called "The Newbie's Guide to Quick and Dirty Mpeg2 Conversion for Zune with AutoMKV". I know most of the folks reading this thread don't need it but I think there are others on other forums that might benefit from it. What do you think?

buzzqw
11th January 2007, 08:38
with no problems.

thanks you too ! i haven't a Zune so your test are very precius !

Thus I wonder if it wouldn't be safer to limit sampling rate to 44kHz for the Zune profiles? (I didn't see anywhere I could control this.)

DONE! (in next release) and even if audio bitrate is over 192 in encoding will be capped to 192!

blank out the top 1 or 2 (or 4) lines in the original (480 line) video, how would I set up the manual crop for that?

in advanced setting there is "manual crop" fuction. Here you can specify the crop value BUT you must also SPECIFY final the WIDTH/HEIGHT of encoded movie

tips: don't deactivate "DelayCut" or your files could be out of synch

What do you think?
would be good ! :thanks:

There is a small bug in 0.67 with the descriptions of audio channels: for example if I give a description like "Director's Comments", the muxing.bat file produces an error. For example:

"E:\AutoMKV\exe\matroska\mkvmerge.exe" -o "G:\lalala\temp\The Ninja.mkv" --track-name -1:"The Ninja" --aspect-ratio 1:2.415094 --chapters "E:\AutoMKV\exe\chapters.txt" "G:\lalala\temp\movie.mp4" --track-name -1:Director's Comments --language -1:eng "G:\lalala\temp\audio.ac3"

In order for this to work, it would be a good idea to enclose in "" the Audio Track 1 (and 2 if it exists) description, ie:

"E:\AutoMKV\exe\matroska\mkvmerge.exe" -o "G:\lalala\temp\The Ninja.mkv" --track-name -1:"The Ninja" --aspect-ratio 1:2.415094 --chapters "E:\AutoMKV\exe\chapters.txt" "G:\lalala\temp\movie.mp4" --track-name -1:"Director's Comments" --language -1:eng "G:\lalala\temp\audio.ac3"

I have some more questions. I can see that in the muxing.bat file above, no mention is made for the AC3 track delay. During the dgindex process for example a file with the name movie t01 3_2ch 384kbps delay -8ms_log.txt is produced. Hence there is a -8msec delay for this AC3 file.

Does mkvmerge understand automatically the delay, by reading the AC3 file? If it is not taken into account, then perhaps the mkvmerge command above should probably include a "--delay -1:-8ms" parameter?

I did, it's the same result...

Then I set "CLOSEAPP" to "0", stop muxing process, click "settings" and I see: "split-maximum file size-10MB". I look in \exe\Matroska\config.ini.amg file, and find "MAXFILESIZE 10"-sholud I change it to 700?. Looks like AviMux ignore settings in muxavi file in Temp.

.......
DONE! (in next release) and even if audio bitrate is over 192 in encoding will be capped to 192!

Great! Thanks!

tips: don't deactivate "DelayCut" or your files could be out of synch
I understand the risk. However the delaycut process roughly doubles the overall conversion time (for the quick Zune profile) and I have not had sync problems (so far). I'm tempted to encode without it and then repeat with it if I see a sync problem. Or I can easily edit out a small clip of my mpeg2's (using VideoReDo) and test it for sync after a (short) AutoMKV conversion. This would detect constant offsets. Does delaycut handle more complicated sync problems than just constant offsets?

Feature request: (Since you are so responsive!)
When converting between different input and output types (e.g., .mpg to .wmv) it would be nice to be able to check a box that would automatically assign the input (root) file name to the output, e.g., test.mpg input would give test.wmv output name. This would make multiple file conversions much more convenient.

"MAXFILESIZE 10"

don't know why avimux_gui ignore my parameters...
i can only check for this value before muxing... but is a bug in avimux_gui... i think

I understand the risk. However the delaycut process roughly doubles the overall conversion time

that's near impossible. Is only a DISK to DISK operation, not an encoding operation. The audio file isn't reencoded just "trimmed/muxed" without delay. Isn't a framerate conversion at all!

it would be nice to be able to check a box that would automatically assign the input (root)

you can use the "movie name" to specify the muxed file name... also in xml files is possible to add

The movies encoded with new xvid_encraw.exe(-altpass2) are permanently undersized. I test it with many others resolution and bitrates, always 2pass average bitrate is less then bitrate set in command line and never rich it. It's looks like a bug in xvid_encraw?

At first I thought this was due to the duration of my 720x576 MPEG-2 test source (which is only 1270 frames).... But sadly that does not seem to be the case :(

Apart from this, the encode speed and quality seems very good :)

should i use a more aggressive bitrate ?
so if computed bitrate is 1000 i will use 1050 ? (+5%)

i switched from CD build because i find the new squid_80 build's more consistent, and better quality wise

from your test how much is undersized ?

Target bitrate 1077, at the end of 2pass average was 860... It's a big different.
Anyway, after editing xvidsecondpass.bat ("-pass2" instead "-altpass2"), I run the 2pass again and seems to be fine(there is only 10% encoded for now, but the average bitrate is more equal target then last time).

With my Barton 2500 we must waiting for a while :) . At this time (50%), the target is 1077 and average is 1089. I think that the result will be ok.

Ok, encoding ended, encoded 125520 frames, average bitrate is 1068(target 1077), file size after muxing is(setting-1CD):
-702MB(AviMuxGui)
-701MB(VirtualDubMod)
Movie quality-excellent :)

Hey buzzqw, mate I can't seem to get it to work. I have the VOB + IFO files in the 'SOURCE' and let the program do the rest. It doesn't seem that it encodes the video (audio is fine). Avinsynth is installed. What am I doing wrong? Here's the log:

I get this when I run 'x264cmdq_pass1.bat' after the encoding job is done:

avis [error]: unsupported input format (DIB )

Hope you guys can help me out. Thnx.

@buzzqw
I've posted my guide (http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=319372) for "Quick Conversion of Mpeg2 to Zune-compatible WMV using AutoMKV" on the VideoHelp forum. I hope you will take a look at it and let me know of any errors you see. At this moment the two screen shots I included are not being shown. I believe they have to be approved by a moderator before they show up.

Note that VideoHelp.com has added AutoMKV to their Tools section also, and one of the moderators has just posted a guide for DVD to WMV conversion using AutoMKV.

@Nemesis7

got it, fixed in next version. now don't use manual crop now (is a problem within manual crop and deinterlacer).
if you want resolve just add last=movie just before
edeintted = SeparateFields().SelectEven().EEDI2(field=-1)

@ALL please downgrade dgindex to 1.4.9 BETA 7 (incompatibility with tfm...)

http://www.neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec149b7.zip

unzip to \exe\dgindex folder
copy dgdecode.dll to \exe\filter folder

@dlflannery
:thanks: !

One suggestion (you gurus probably know more, but anyways thought this might of interest): I've seen that automkv uses 3 threads for x264. Now I'm sure I was reading somewhere that 2 threads is always faster than with 3, in some cases by an important margin.

Perhaps threads should be 2 instead of 3? Or auto for that matter? MeGUI uses in almost all cases 0 (=auto). Just a suggestion. Will try to make a comparison here on a small clip with threads =auto, threads=2 and threads=3.
