To be able to create files >2 GiB, an AVI multiplexer must be allowed to write OpenDML (AVI 2.0) files. "Legacy" AVI files used chunks with 32 bit size fields, often interpreted as signed (-2Gi .. +2Gi). Some consumer players may not support OpenDML AVIs, their support is only certain for PCs.

To clarify the meaning of "Standard" and "PC", I would suggest to extend the second option to "PC (OpenDML)".

MeGUI probably should switch to "PC (OpenDML)" automatically if no splitting is specified and the file size exceeds 2GB.

I don't know if it's intended or not but when I had a play I realised the AVI muxer behaves differently to the rest of the muxers. If you add an AVI as video input to the AVI muxer and the AVI includes audio, the audio will be included when muxing. The rest of the muxers only use the video from the input file and require the audio stream is added separately. Possibly no big deal, but I expected they'd all work the same way.

I don't understand why i have always this error! I use Oneclick encoder, and set the paths without read-only attributes, and run program in C:\megui with admin rights...
Now i try without admin rights.

UPDATE: If i uncheck the option "delete intermediate files" all working good! So the problem is in deleting the file after the muxing of MKV..

In the "Device Type" drop-down box, try selecting "PC".

No, a program shouldn't silently convert from a highly compatible output to a minimally compatible one. Run into the incompatibility and you'd be pulling your hair out trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Giving an unexpected result (multiple files) lets you know right off that there's an issue and even gives you a hint what it might be.

It's much easier to field, "Why does my AVI split at 1.9GB," than, "Why doesn't this movie play?"
Whoever did it did it right.

That's why people post here pulling their hair out trying to work out why MeGUI is splitting the output files when no splitting has been specified, despite the warning in the log file stating files will be split every 2GB.

It's much easier to field, "Why does my AVI split at 1.9GB," than, "Why doesn't this movie play?"

Really? I wonder why that'd be? Is it hard to ask if the AVI in question is over 2GB?

Neither VirtualDubMod or VirtualDub split AVIs into 2GB segments by default, and I'm not aware either have a reputation for creating AVIs that won't play. They both switch to OpenDML automatically at 2GB although both have an option to use OpenDML automatically for AVIs over 1GB.
AVIMux_GUI does split at 2GB by default, but when you tell it not to, it automatically switches to OpenDML as required.

Which players don't support the "minimally compatible" OpenDML these days?

How to create a UHD 4K from normal bdfull 1080p with Megui? Best setting?

If try to resize 3840 megui do not generate preview and put resolution 1920, how to force upscaling?

Thanks

Did you notice the "Config" button in the "Avisynth script creator"?
Just click it and and on extra setup tab make a mark at "upsizing allowed".
But what's the use for upscaling HD to UHD?
It wont get better, let you player make the upscaling...
Sorry, could not resist

I post a bit in the VideoHelp forum and I've found myself explaining to people where to find the upsizing option quite a few times.
I still think having it hidden away and disabled by default is a bad idea (you can't even resize an anamorphic DVD to square pixels by resizing it "up" without it enabled). People can decide for themselves how to resize. And I still think it should be less restrictive. If upscaling is disabled and you crop just a couple of pixels you should at least be allowed to resize back to the original resolution. But that's just me.....

I've found a bug, at least in the 2525 version. I'm converting a video using QTGMC and then using SelectEven() to halve the framerate. The resulting file, however, was still at the doubled framerate output of QTGMC. However, according to the log, the problem isn't with the encode itself - it's that, when selecting mp4 format output, for some reason the doubled framerate is passed as a parameter to mp4box. I'm not sure how exactly this happens, but it definitely does. Even if fps is set explicitly as a parameter for x264, MeGUI doesn't make use of that information to supply the correct fps to mp4box. I've confirmed that this only happens with mp4 output, not rawavc or mkv. So either the settings for mp4box need to be given a place in the UI directly, or this behavior just needs to be fixed.

Yeah, the wiki at mewiki.project357.com appears to be dead. If there's no backup, I guess we could get it by hand from the wayback machine or google's cache and put it up again somewheres...

Hi. I want to make some encodes and i want to know if i need anything more than Megui.

It depends how long you want that piece of string to be. ;)

As a general rule, no, you don't require anything more, but MeGUI does have a bit of a learning curve and you can only encode using the Xvid or x264 video encoders (the title of this thread could use an update).

I want to make the most simple encodes, for example encoding a bluray to avc with x264 but sometimes the video source suffers from interlaced problems. My question is do i need to install avisynth after megui??

hello_hello
11th May 2015, 04:30
No, MeGUI uses a portable version of Avisynth+, which is fairly similar to Avisynth 2.6. It has an option in it's settings to switch between using the portable version and any version of Avisynth you happen to have installed.

If you're going to install Avisynth though, it'd pay to install the latest, which is version 2.6 RC3 (or install Avisynth+). The reason for that is if you start using any additional Avisynth plugins, you can switch between the installed version and the portable version without too much issue as the plugins for Avisynth 2.6 also work for Avisynth+.

Other than that, no you don't need to install Avisynth, but it can be handy, as any plugins you put in the installed Avisynth plugins folder will automatically load when Avisynth runs (they'll also auto-load when MeGUI is using the portable version of Avisynth+) so you don't need to manually load them in scripts yourself. If you're not going to be doing anything beyond letting MeGUI create scripts and use the plugins that come with it, then it doesn't matter. MeGUI will load the plugins it needs to use.

I can't really contribute to the software side of things (no clue) but I could probably contribute by helping with something like that. I have a bit of free time and if there's no hurry.....

What was hosted on the mewiki.project357.com site? I think I recall I guide to x264's settings but aside from that I'm not sure.

The dpi value is usually around 100 (typically, e.g. 72 or 96 dpi), it means "dots per inch". It is possible to change the resolution to e.g. upscale fonts if text appears tiny and hard to read.

Hi there, fellow transcoders.
Adding #degrain routine in the avs script creator with smdegrain.avsi & awesome mvtools2.dll would be great improvement.
Since if the source is heavily grained and no degrain is aplied usually approx half of the precious bitrate is consumed by the grain.
I consider it being a bit diff from denoising since most film transfers more grainy than noisy. Although it takes care of the noise too.
Temporal degrainer such as smdegrain or similar based on the famous motion vectors toolkit mvtools2 is very hq, has fine tuning
and does its job with great respect to edges, details and everything. I've used the thing for years with great success. So consider this..

I believe that a video stream would only need a language flag if it has language-dependent content (like the multi-angle trick on the "Shrek" DVD to show the cast rendered with translated texts).

How ironic i came here to report the audio language problem from the mp4 muxer. Of course im using the last MeGUI dev server with all updated packages.

I found out that the command line must have changed in last mp4box. The language tag has to be 3 digits now, so instead of lang=en, it must be lang=eng

Works well when i try to do it from CLI manually with the MeGUI's MP4Box.exe Should be an easy fix for the dev.

Thanks by the way for this awesome tool.

There are different ISO-639 language codes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_639), at least 2CC (639-1) and 3CC (639-2 and 639-3). If MP4Box "upgraded", then possibly for clarity and diversity.

Stax did a recent try with Avisynth+ x64 here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172068

I still consider it myself, but it will be a lot of work to find working plugins and so on. And I do not want to abandon MeGUI x86 like Stax did with his tool. But then it will be too much work... so no clue when it will happen. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not in the next years. Depends an the dvelopment in the AviSynth x64 area (currently seems to be on hold again).

Ah nice find. Well anyways I hope this can be fixed. For the video track and audio track.

edit: Just noticed there was a megui update. And it seemed to fix the audio. But the video is still left blank. Shouldn't this use what language is set in the options? Or maybe add a pulldown menu for the video as well for languages.

That's not really the point. It was working at some point. Now its not. Also MKVMerge supports it. I see no reason why mp4 can't. I use it so yes there is a use for it for some.

The biggest problem with AviSynth+ x64 at this moment is you cannot use complex scripts like QTGMC. It's however possible to use QTGMC using VapourSynth x64 where it works greatly.

Another problem is DGDecode x64 isn't working correctly, it's not a big deal though since ffms2 x64 can handle NTSC fine and there is also DGDecNV x64.

Depending on situation I use both AviSynth+ x64 and VapourSynth x64.

That's not really the point. It was working at some point. Now its not. Also MKVMerge supports it. I see no reason why mp4 can't. I use it so yes there is a use for it for some.
To my knowledge it was never supported in MeGUI to set a language for the video track. There is no option for that in the muxer GUIs.

Hmm interesting. Well I have muxed stuff in the past with MeGUI mp4 muxer and it set the English language. Maybe it was already set on the file before muxing.

Either way can you add this option?

Hey guys.
Noob question.
Is there anyway to go back to vfw4x264 in the new MeGui version ? MeGui replaced with avs4x264mod.

Or should i go back to older MeGui version ?
Thanks!

I'm getting a weird error when opening MeGUI: it complains about a running MeGUI instance being detected. I certainly do not have another MeGUI running and the dialog also appears after a fresh reboot.

I also get the same error when trying to open "IV Play" (a MAME GUI).

I tried to watch what happens with Process Explorer but couldn't find any direct reason or hint where to start looking at. I've also uninstalled EMET and tried disabling the antivirus resident shield (AVG).

Does anyone have any tips?

Not sure why you want to do that, but it may be possible to simply switch the executables (vfw4x264 renamed to avs4x264mod of course). If this does not work because of changed command lines then you need to use an older MeGUI version.

MeGUI (same as IV-Play) are using Mutex to check if another instance of their programs are already running. It seems that your system has problems to detect those Mutex objects and therefore you get these messages.

The used call with all command line parameters is missing in your log.

Furthermore, there is apparently no AC3 audio stream, only raw PCM.
