the Pro model uses MTK. Plus model uses ESS. Not sure how is this off-topic then..
and yes, as i've said, i've tried changing it in setup, but it didn't help..

Seems like the player is sending a 16:9 signal trough the scart connector even if you set it to 4:3. That should never happen.
The "white line" at the top of the picture is typical for a 4:3 TV in 16:9 mode.
Your tv should have a button on the remote to switch it back to 4:3, but that does not solve the real problem.
Maybe the player is just defective ?

But a very useful clarification none the less!
Maybe this MT player is one of those that can be upgraded to decode Mpeg4 .AVI's with anamorphic signalling?

Well, the Xoro model numbers are a bit confusing, theres a 400 with a very old ess chipset, a 400plus with a newer ess chip, then the 400pro with mediatek chip.
And of course the 311 with ess chipset and the 311pro with mediatek.
The beta firmware for the 400pro (wich does until now only work with newer 400pro models) does support avi with anamorphic signalling.
I flashed this firmware to my 311pro to check this. ;)
@SeeMoreDigital
Btw, you already know the new players with Zoran chipset ?
Maybe a new chance for mp4 playback ;)
But still no Xvid+GMC
I think im trying to get the Samsung 745 with this chipset, looks promising.

RISc 05.00.02.02

you were right! i tried connecting it with rca connector, and it doesnt do that. is my tv faulty? is there any way i could fix that? i think i heard that rca connection gives worse quality than scart(rgb) or component..

Also purchased the Medion :
Code in setup: 8888
ver. 05.00.02.02
sub-ver 00.00.00.01
8032 05.00.02.02
Serv 18.04.00.00
Risc 05.00.02.02
Dsp 03.03.00.33
region 2
I popped it open to check on the chipset, however it has a heatsink stuck on top. The board appears identical to that of the 4Tune MP-151 (http://www.synco.ru/images/DSCF0619.JPG), which has an MT1389FE chipset.
This spanish forum has a couple of detailed tests:
http://www.forodivx.com/showthread/t-34972.html
http://www.forodivx.com/showthread/t-34987.html
They say that it doesn't support subtitles. Haven't got 'round to testing that myself yet, though I have seen a post from Medion (http://forum.speier.hu/index.php?showtopic=92&st=45) claiming that it does support subtitles.
My biggest issue by far with the player is that mine is locked to region 2 and no code has been published yet (anyone have any ideas?). It appears that some of these players are sold region free and others not. (http://www.dvd-headquarters.de/dvdhqforum/view.php?bn=dvdhq_dvdforum2&key=1090858052) Mine was from Media Markt.

See page 20 of the Zensonic Z300/Z330 manual. It's got the instructions to change region.
http://www.zensonic.com/support.php
It should work for yours too.

Thanks for the tip, but that doesn't work (I've included the hack below for the record).
If I enter 8888 on the preference setup page I do get the "region code window" but no way I can find to adjust it.
I've tried all the MT1389 region hacks I could find + all the previous generation Medion hacks and no luck so far.
One possible issue is that the Medion 42068 remote doesn't have a "Clear" button, often used on MT1389 hacks.
---------
Zensonic Z330 :
Go to the Preference setup page.
Press 1006.
The region code adjust window will show up. Use left /right cursor button to adjust region code (0—
region code free, 1—6 region code 1—6), PLAY/ENTER to confirm the change.

There is one more player based on a MT1389 chip (they don't say what version), called E-BODA 555X (Romanian). Firmware version:
Versiune: 05.00.03.05
SUB-VER: 00.00.00.01
8032: 05.00.03.05
Servo: 02.11.00.00
RISC: 05.00.03.05
DSP: 03.03.00.96
Subtitles are OK; they are upgrading the firmware constantly.(http://www.e-boda.ro/produse/dvd/dvd_555x_upgrade.html)

Hello Mtz,
Thanx for the good news! (and for the subtitles ;) )

Thank you one more time and keep up the good work! :)

New firmware for Yamaha 550 (1389EE) is out, now with subtitles (srt,smi,ssa,sub,...). Subs are big and centered, up to 3 lines with many chars but still no outline.
And theres support for AR settings in AVI.

Any idea if it's compatible with Philips DVP720SA ?
All the best

Dont know. I already tried the Philips firmware with the Yamaha and it seemed to work, but after i switched it off for a while the player does not start anymore. It just shows Philips in the display and goes to standby. No way to insert a cd or flash it back without the serial interface.
So i dont think its a good idea to try it without having such an interface.

there are 3 Bulgarian players, based on DE chipset:
Elite DHT-370X
Elite DHT-377X
Elite DHT-388X
see here (http://www.elite.bg/bg/home_video/index.htm)
3 are equal inside, only the 'boxes' are different.

according to this website (http://divxtest.surdvd.com/article.php3?id_article=58) (in french), the MediaTek 1389 based players won't have problems playing back files encoded with DivX 6

thank you Nope I'm afraid
For starters, none of MediaTek's MT1389xx chip-sets support AAC audio!
Cheers
well they updated HSD 310 and HSD 415 to support Nero, so I'm not sure why wouldnt they update HSD 400 :/

As it was possible to see from its specification that it was capable of supporting AAC audio - which is usually placed within the .MP4 container.
However, when Philips launched players with .MP4 container support but without AAC audio, everything got rather confusing!

Hmm, according to latest d9 news, mediatek 1389 will support nero digital? *confused*

I suppose it all is a little confusing. As it would seem MediaTek's MT1389xx range of chip-sets are able to support AAC audio after-all.
In reality, I wonder whether their entire range of MT1389xx chip-sets can be upgraded or just the last few?
But although this is great news for us fans of AAC audio and the .MP4 container, I guess it will be up to individual player manufacturers to decide whether they can be bothered to include it as a firmware release!
The NeroDigital team must be dancing down the office corridors.... as all four major chip-set manufacturers appear to now have chip-sets capable of supporting their product :)
Cheers
im not completely up to it, as I havent really used Nero Digital yet, but surely it's more than just AAC audio and MP4 container? (i mean, I don't really care about those two, my main concern is video;p)

NeroDigital (as generated using Recode2) primarily supports the .MP4 container and AAC audio "only". So any stand-alone player manufacturer who wishes to incorporate NeroDigital Certification, will have to support both.
Cheers
well, lets hope Xoro wont let us down :)

is the firmware inter-changable between different machines with same chipset? i have a Malata DVP-838 which MT1389FE inside. everyting has gone well except:
1/ OGG/OGM not supported (of course AAC/MP4 neither).
2/ Xvid with GMC > 1 not supported
3/ .srt subtitle - only english language supported.
Anybody know where and how to find firmware update to solve the above issues?
thx.

It can be played on my Malata DVP-838 which also has a MT1389FE inside. I also managed to convert .srt (text format) to .sub/.idx to be able to play back, because the machine does not support .srt in languages other than english.
is it possible to see ending of filenames longer than X number of chars? i mean many of my videos have long file names, and if it shows only a beginning (which often is same), then it's impossible to chose a file without guessing :(
guess it's not..
does Xoro HSD 400 Pro support divx subtitles? I tried burning .srt yesterday, and it didnt show :(
my firmware versions:
ver 05.00.02.08
sub 04.04.00.01
8032 05.00.02.08
servo 05.03.00.00

Hey
Is there anybody in here with some knowledge about the Medion md40088, I think it's possibly also an MT1389xx based player. It has the exactly same menus as my Medion md7457 and also the same button sequences applies for checking the firmware version and region codes.
It has this written in the versions field:
Ver: 05.00.02.06
Subver:52.07.00.07
8032:05.00.02.06
Servo:02.11.00.00
Risc: 05.00.02.06
DSP: 03.03.00.36
Does any of this make any sense to you guys? I bought the player in Aldi in Denmark just recently, any other owners in here?
The dvd player also has an amplifier and a surround system incorporated in it.
I would really appreciate any help, because subtitles on divx movies are crucial to me :)
If it is a MT1389 player what firmware will i be able to use then?

For those of you living in Greece or possibly in the Balcans, Crypto, a greek manufacturer, started selling a MT1389DE based player in the greek market recently. It is called DVD 320 and it is the only MT1389 based player available in the greek market as far as I know. Its' price is around 75 euros. I 'll let you know more as soon as I get one.
