Right, I only had problems with XVID and GMC.

Yep and if you read the first Page you would have seen that it can't playback 3 Warppoint GMC as XviD and Nero Digital are useing.

In my tests xvid files with 1-bf played well on the 7457. But Doom9 wrote sth. about 2 & 3 b-frames played choppy on the Grand Prix (which is nearly the same than the 7457).
Yes, thanks for info.
I know that the source must be interlaced to make a proper use of the interlaced option. And I have some TV captures at full PAL resolution, which are indeed interlaced.

I know this, because I can encode the captures using xvid, and they play smooth trough my xcard on my TV. So indeed the Sigma's xcard can decode interlaced material, that was encoded using xvid.

But now for the real point:
- my xcard cannot decode interlaced material (no xvid nor ffvfw) when using b-frames.
-> so could it be that Mediatek chip can decode interlaced material, when using b-frames in xvid? And maybe multiple >1 too?

There is a Firmwareupdate for the Medion 7457, but no changelog.
You can get it here. (http://www.medion.de/downloads/download.pl?id=1777&type=treiber&filename=md7457.exe&lang=de)

But it seems like it's trashed some players, so use at your own risk.

Medion took the update from their page, cause it seems to have some failures.

I have the feeling that my Player for example has now even more speedup/slowdown problems then before.

The update was taken down, because it was causing troubles.
I killed my Player with it, so I really can't recommend using it.

Cheers, monty If you kill your Medion player using Medion firmware is it still covered under the warranty?

I actually killed my Gran Prix Player with the Medion Firmware ;)
so I don't think it's covered by warranty, but I'll still try to get my money back and grab an elta 8883, as those don't seem to have slowdown/speedup problems.

Yes. (In Germany)

But you should wait one week or two, because Medion will release another firmware that should be compatible to all players.

H&B's new player DX-3220 (http://www.hb-direct.com/EN/P_26.html)can also handle all the Divx-pro features.
Don't have it, but info about it is here (http://p2prod.ifrance.com/p2prod/les_platines_divx_de_salon.htm) and here (http://forum.surdvd.com/viewtopic.php?t=21599&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0).
And H&B's products are generally available in the Netherlands, Belgium and France of course. This player is already on sale at this French E-Shop (http://www.rueducommerce.fr/hifi/showdetl.cfm?product_id=2338&pl=1713|2119|2338).
Does H&B makes some players itself or would this one also be a repackaged model of another brand?
Nice thing they are explicitly promising Subtitle and DTS support in a firmware update, it is printed in their product brochure.

And this French E-Shop (http://www.multe-pass.com/boutique/fiche_produit.cfm?ref=205982#) does delivery in the EU, EEC, not really sure.
They however have no stock at the moment.

Greetings.

That would just be the second revision of the original firmware, which was announced by Elta.

Simple Answer: None.

die_leuchte
3rd February 2004, 11:43
And when I'm going to buy a divx player, I want one that's doing the washing up as well. It'd play Ogg (Ogm), MP4, AAC, and it should be able to clean my room!

p.s. be happy when it plays at least the most of your divx right and stop dreaming of subtitle support.

some manufacturers got srt subs working on players (none of them based on the mediatek chips), so there is still hope, eventhough srt isn't my first choice when it comes to subtitles.

So the firmwares of the Ascomtec, Rimax and Elta Players are exchangeable(i.e. you can use the Ascomtec firm on the elta)?

Yes, at least it works for me, but the buttons on the player do not work anymore.
Thanks god you can start the update with the remote control :D
And the elta firmware seems to be the newest one.

Here in Sweden we watch foreign movies with original sound and subtitles instead of the dubbed fake voices they use in many countries. Most of my divx have subtitles unless the original language is Swedish. Dubbed voices does not exist here other than on childrens movies. It does not matter that I can understand English, I still want the subtiles in Swedish just because I'm used to it. And I want to be able to switch the subtitles on or off (no matter that I always keep them on). Just don't want to reencode everything to get harcoded subtitles in the picture (takes time and decreases the quality). Then I can as well make them to DVD format if I must reencode it anyway.

die_leuchte

@ronnylov

some some genres I as well prefer subtitles instead of stupid dubbed voices and I'd be very very happy if the Mediatek 1389Ge/De Players would be able to play subs.

I'm all mixed up...

Cruncher does any mediatek player support .sub subtitles ?

Reading the forum gives me the impression that just .srt is not supported.

I reckon there will be subs support simply for the reason that there are so many players based on this chipset now and I can see some manufacturers being asked by their customers for subs support and the info filtering back to MT.

Well that's my logic anyhow.

An E-Mail send by an Umax Employe for the New Yamada DVX6600 DivX Player stated.

1.Vorbis-OGG audio format is under development.(Estimated end of March)

2.will support subtitles for DivX discs in the coming weeks.(Within the next few weeks)

so MediaTek is about to finish with the newest Firmware :)

Shame!

oddball

Don't give a crap about MP4 or AAC containers. More interested in soft subs, Ogg, OGM and possibly MKV at a later stage (Though may not support all file types within).

Just to tell that a firmware that will read subtitles has been anounced for the ascomtec 3004 in this spanish forum (http://www.indicedivx.com/foro/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=86&x=18&y=5)
It is suposed to appear before friday, but i think is a little soon. Anyway i will post here any news.

@Alxemi:
Sorry, my spanish is not that good :), did Ascomtec promise that the firmware will support subtitles or is it just a rumour ?
Its the only thing im really missing.

Alxemi

did Ascomtec promise that the firmware will support subtitles or is it just a rumour ?

xD Seems an easy question but it is not.
Ascomtec didnīt say anything. Thereīs a guy in the forum who is very near to Ascomtec and it is like the Ascomtec-bridge. He has announced other things and firmware updates and everything was (more or less) like he said. But it is NOT official word.
It seems to be very clear that the firmware will support subtitles, what is not clear is when. He said before friday but thatīs tomorrow and nowadays theres nothing out there. Anyway subtitles will come; at midnight, tomorrow or the next week, and they will be more than welcome, now even more welcome when seems that OGM is a lot further that it was a few weeks before (or lost forever sniff:()...

oddball
27th February 2004, 06:26
My Elta has just been shipped. Weeee! Yes subs would be nice. OGM would be even nicer. I can live without MKV for now though. I just want a player that handles the basics (If you can call them that).

Subs are needed though as I watch a lot of anime and the occasional foreign movie. Luckily most subs are hardcoded in anime fansubs. ;)

Alxemi
28th February 2004, 12:29
...but not good news. subtitle-firmware for asctomtec has been delayed without a new release date because off "bugs in it that must be fixed".
Not a big surprise for me. As i use to say "never give dates for things that doesnīt depend of you"
