Any screenshot comparisons?
Personally I don't think still shots will do it justice - you'll have to see it in motion to appreciate the difference.

Hello Zachs,
I would like to know if MPDN would be able to use the CPU instead of the GPU for part or all of his rendering job. Is there a way to enable this?
Thanks for your player it's impressive!

You can use avisynth or something equivalent but the GPU is much more suitable for rendering for good reasons.

I've tried many other sharpening filters, and none has been able to satisfy me (msharpen, xsharpen, etc). SSSR on the other hand, is AMAZING. I thought it was pretty much impossible for a good sharpening filter to exists.

Thanks, although technically it's an upscaling algorithm. It could be made into a sharpener though, that could be an interesting future project.
In the meantime I'm making some adjustments to SSSR. When they're ready, I'd be interested to know what you think of them.

I think the fact that you're focusing it on upscaling helps shape its capabilities as a sharpening filter. All of my videos that require sharpening always requires upscaling as well, and all other sharpening filters that I've tried dont take that into account. If someone needs it as a proper sharpening filter, there's always downscaling after upscaling.

What are the difference between madvr and mpdn implementation of SSIM downscaler ?
Because for the same configuration I got different render times.
Windows 10 64bits
AMD 7870XT
Driver AMD up to date (16.5.3)
Source : 1920x1080 Bluray
Monitor : 1680x1050
MPDN v2.47.0.3602 64bits :
Chroma scaling : Jinc 4 AR
Downscaling : SSIM 1.50
Deband
Render time : 11ms
Madvr v0.90.20 32bits (because of Reclock) :
Chroma scaling : Jinc AR
Downscaling : 2D SSIM 75% AR relaxed LL
Deband
Render time : 22ms
Why is there such a gap in rendering time ?
Oh I'm dumb it's because of the reduce ringing artifacts fitler.
The following question still stand :
Also I can't find an explanation concerning the 1D - 2D option of SSIM in Madvr, can someone explain it to me please ?
Thank you by advance for taking the time to answer my questions !
madVr jinc should be 6 tab in mpdn and not 4. and even that doesn't mean they are 100 % identical.
the anti ringing filter is nearly for sure not the same too.
you are using an extra AR filter in madVR.
the deband filter are fundamental different too.
so this is not the same configuration.

Anyone else losing audio sync when seeking? Happens fairly often for me.

Me too.
I am not sure if it's just after seeking though, since for quite some time I have been suffering audio sync issues that I have to adjust the audio delay manually to re-gain the sync.
Also I cannot be sure if this phenomenon starts from which version or which LAVFilter version.

6th June 2016, 01:22
Can you try going back to a release that didn't have the problem? I'd like to find out if it's related to any recent changes.

Problem is, with the latest versions the audio sync problem seems gone.
Can ryrynz confirms it? Or you're referring to a different issue?

And now I know why I've never noticed it until now, it only happens when using DirectSound (I would normally use Sanear)
The problem occurs from 2.44.0 and up, all I have to do is pause and play and sync is lost, FWIW I'm bitstreaming with latest LAV.
Zachs
7th June 2016, 10:20
So the problem started from v2.44.0?
Does it only happen when you're bitstreaming?

Yes, the madVR SSIM AR filter consumes extra power (MPDN doesn't have an extra AR filter for SSIM). But it's not the only difference. huhn already explained some more differences (deband + Jinc taps).
"SSIM" in MPDN is comparable to "1D SSIM" in madVR. "2D SSIM" in madVR consumes much more GPU power. The difference in image quality is rather small, though. So if you want to compare performance, use "1D SSIM" in madVR.

Correct, and yes it seem to only occur while bitstreaming.
Also, with Sanear and Directsound after seeking (sometimes requires multiple seeks) the picture can freeze for up to ten seconds or so while audio continues, unsure if this is any better with 2.43.1 but I could check.
Checked. 2.43.1/1.20.0 doesn't appear to have any issues.

Thank you a lot both of you, it's all clear now. I was also wondering the difference between 1d and 2d SSIM and I got an answer ! [emoji2]

Is it possible to include OSD in FSE similar to dsplayer? Something like stop & play button? This would be a great replacement as dsplayer is no longer being developed

MPDN 2.47.0.3602 64-bit hangs for me when using the bilateral filter with 10-bit h264 content. There is no hanging when bilateral is used as a chroma prescaler in conjuction with nnedi3 prescaling for superres.

You're right. I'll look into it.

Shiandow, can you find out what's wrong? I've traced it to the render script framework causing stack overflow when Update() is called.
Shiandow

That doesn't narrow it down much, but I'll have a look.
Edit: Should be fixed now.

Hmm. I'm still facing this issue...
SubTags is causing stackoverflow by recursively calling itself non-stop.
Shiandow
23rd June 2016, 12:13
Well I did fix something...
Does the SubTags issue go away when using Bilateral + NNEDI3? Or does it occur regardless?

Well I can't reproduce it with the code in my repository, unfortunately I don't really have the time to look into it right now.

It only happens if the video is 10bits.
Shiandow
27th June 2016, 00:54
I've finally managed to reproduce it. It might only happen with newer versions os MPDN (v2.46.0 seems to be fine), no clue why, this issue keeps getting weirder.
By the way it seems MPDN starts the video, resizes the window, and then continues playback. It would be more optimal if the window was resized beforehand, because then the render chain wouldn't need to be built twice.

Thanks to Shiandow, the bilateral scaler hang issue should now be fixed with v1.28.2.

I'll try to find out what's causing that resize.
