On your screenshots, the times are showing with MS, but not on mine. Thought that might have something to do with the issue I'm experiencing.

I have nothing coded what store settings in the Windows registry.
This could be a behaviour from Lazarus or Windows, I don't know.

Split Chapters:
I have installed this new feature first for the OGG/OGM editor only.
You can select a chapter (not the first or the last) and then
click on "Split chapters" (in the special tool bar).
Two new OGG tabs are created with the respective chapters.
Feedback is welcome to find out if everything fits or needs something else.

The internal Matroska parser I have improved, so also the playing time when loading a Matroska file is used.
For all time editing fields on which you can drop a file to read the duration, also the internal Matroska parser is used.

The cE can now load Matroska files without MKVToolNix (MTX).

There is a new special feature for the Matroska Chapter Editor.

If you saved chapters directly in a Matroska file, you had to start it with a double-click in the file browser....this is on a long term, very cumbersome.
Therefore, you can now start the Matroska files directly from the chapterEditor out.


The last chapter end time(if exists) can be used from XML and Matroska files as playing time for the edition. In Matroska files the playing time(SegmentInfo/Duration) is often NOT (actually never) exactly. Therefore, it is more useful to use the last chapter end time.

The user data remain, however, and you can login as usual.

I have extended my mpls parser, so now under Linux/Windows Multi-Angle Blurays can be processed by MTX (without other external tools).
Furthermore you will be able to create Multi-Edition mkv files on Linux.

If an mpls contains several m2ts files, it can happen that some m2ts files (usually the first or last) have different properties.
This means that the mux process does not work in MTX.

In the BD2mkv editor such "disturbing" m2ts files can be ignored (first, last and duplicates).

The new MTX functions led to disturbances in the cE, as other editors also have access simultaneously.
Therefore, I have renewed the MTX interface.
Everything now runs in its own process and no longer interferes with Multi-Threading.
At the same time, a few bugs were fixed for Linux.

However, I'm having problems with the DVDtoMKV function: I select a DVD, a output folder but when I try to get all audio and video tracks the message "PgcDemux(Mod) start" and nothing happens.

I've tried the same with beta 1 and 2, and it works perfectly. However, in beta 3 the program seems to do nothing. Have you changed something or there is a new setting I should verify?

When I use PGCDemux, there is no progress numbers available and no GUI can shown. With your test-DVD Salt it takes 1min for demux the VOBs and for these time you see no "progress". (PGCDemuxMod can show the GUI and there are progress numbers)

The cut mode "...by parts" I have expanded, so that you can choose whether the same when cutting "join" should be.

Play/Open files is another new feature.
In BD2mkv mpls files can be played or external tracks.

Subtitle editing was not as I would like it to be, so I improved a lot there and fixed a few bugs.

On some Blurays and DVDs (Star Trek, for example), there are no forced subtitles.
In the normal subtitle track, there are subtitles that could/should be displayed.
Such subtitles must be edited: New "forced" switches must be set.
Then the new subtitle track must be saved with the new forced subtitles and only then can the forced subtitles be extracted. And then load the file.
A pretty annoying thing, so it's now automatic.

Opening a subtitle file (directly from cE) will now be done in a thread.
BDSup2Sub is started (also now for Linux) and you can set new forced switches.
Save: If you do NOT change the default output file name then the new forced subtitles are automatically extracted and loaded into the cE.

I guess that by splitting the entire MKV by chapters, and merging again all parts corresponding one of the editions I could create the new MKV, but I don't know about any program which could handle this automatically... Have you had this problem? (Maybe it could be an additional function for your problem... if you find it interesting... )

Which player you are using?

When ever it is possible to you, then use LAVFilters, best Matroska support!! LAV is supported by many players.
mpv (https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv) has limited Matroska support. Medium-Liniking is working but no Editions.
VLC has maybe the best Matroska support for Linux. VLC 3.0 could be interessting, Steve is fixing some mkv-parser issues.

My idea would be to work only with the MKV (which is the file I own currently), and not with any m2ts file... If I had to extract only one edition from a m2ts/bluray, I could use programs like MakeMKV, which make this work perfectly, correcting also the linking points when needed.

Working as an example (very simple) of one MKV with two editions:

Edition 1
Chapter 1 - 00.000.000 to 00.010.000
Chapter 2 - 00.010.000 to 00.025.000
Chapter 3 - 00.025.000 to 00.050.000
Chapter 4 - 00.050.000 to 00.100.000
Edition 2
Chapter 1 - 00.100.000 to 00.110.000
Chapter 2 - 00.010.000 to 00.025.000
Chapter 3 - 00.025.000 to 00.030.000
Chapter 4 - 00.110.000 to 00.210.000
Chapter 5 - 00.050.000 to 00.100.000

As can be seen, without taking into consideration the information from ordered chapters, the MKV would have a duration of 00.210.000.

Extracting the first edition is really easy: Loading the MKV in MKVToolnix it is only necessary to split it at time 00.100.000 (End time of first edition). The first part created would be the first edition, and its chapters would be those of first edition of chapters file, without any change or correction:

Chapter 1 - 00.000.000
Chapter 2 - 00.010.000
Chapter 3 - 00.025.000
Chapter 4 - 00.050.000

Extracting the second revision it not so easy and would need some calculations (For these calculations the "hidden" chapters are considered as "normal" chapters):

* The MKV must be splitted in the points where the times in the chapter file are not correlative:

Chapter 1 - 00.100.000 to 00.110.000
Chapter 2 - 00.010.000 to 00.025.000
Chapter 3 - 00.025.000 to 00.030.000
Chapter 4 - 00.110.000 to 00.210.000
Chapter 5 - 00.050.000 to 00.100.000

When ordering this times, the entire MKV (without taking into consideration information of ordered chapters) should be splitted in different parts, with following times:

Part 1 - 00.000.000 to 00.010.000 --> Not used in edition 2
Part 2 - 00.010.000 to 00.030.000
Part 3 - 00.030.000 to 00.050.000 --> Not used in edition 2
Part 4 - 00.050.000 to 00.100.000
Part 5 - 00.100.000 to 00.110.000
Part 6 - 00.110.000 to 00.210.000

To create the new MKV of second edition, these parts must be joined in one MKV, with the correct order:

Part 5 + Part 2 + Part 6 + Part 4

Finally, the chapter times must be also corrected:

Chapter 1 - 00.000.000

With an so simple example the process would be easy, with with a real movie, with a lot of chapters and jumps caused by different editions it would become a nightmare...

Obviously if the MKV has more that two editions, for the third, fourth, etc. the process would be similar.

Which player you are using?

When ever it is possible to you, then use LAVFilters, best Matroska support!! LAV is supported by many players.
mpv (https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv) has limited Matroska support. Medium-Liniking is working but no Editions.
VLC has maybe the best Matroska support for Linux. VLC 3.0 could be interessting, Steve is fixing some mkv-parser issues.

When playing in computer, I use MPC-HC, which works with the ordered chapters with no problem... In VCL it is possible to select the second edition but then fails (I think there is a bug...)

The problem is that other players (KODI, etc.), players available in Android systems (KODI, MX Player, etc.) and Smart TVs and Bluray Players does not support the ordered chapters, so it is not possible to select the second edition of the movie. Thats the reason I were interested in a "quick process" to extract this second edition, and play it in a non-compatible player.

For your short sample it is indeed simple to split the correct chapter-parts. And yes with a real movie exists many more hidden chapters(cut-points).
Only with the mkv to determine which chapters have to split is possible but a big task.

When you cut on a chapter point, which is not the start or end time of an m2ts/VobID, then maybe MTX can not cut correctly (Key frame issue).
Best way is to cut on the original m2ts(VobID)-durations but this info is for the single mkv not available.

Yes it is a bug, more then one. I test sometimes my TNG Bluray mkv files. Sometimes the main-mkv starts and I can switch between the editions, sometimes hangs VLC or crash. An older VLC version 2.x works a bit better.


Some players like mpv(and VLC) has Matroska Medium-Linking support whereby it is possible to separate the editions in a new very small extra mkv(mostly less 1mb).
All content of the second edition is linked via ordered chapters in this extra mkv.
So you don't need to cut the mkv file.

Mmmh... this change a bit my mind about "in a far future". It should not so complicated to generate such "extra-edition-mkv's" with the cE.


I'm sure Mosu can't help you with the ordered chapter topic and such a support for MTX is for the moment not planed.

I've done a test trying to extrack the different editions from a multi-edition MKV, and performing the process manually all seems OK. I'm attaching only the chapter information:

Original chapter.xml from the "Paranormal Activity - The Ghost Dimension" MKV, which includes three different editions of the movie:

File: MultiEdition.xml

Based on informartion for 2nd and 3rd edition, I've created (using ChapterEditor), two new chapter files, each one corresponding to one edition. In these files I add a new chapter in each position where in the original movie there is a jump from one time to other (as these times will be those used for the splitting), and also identify if they will be used or not in the new MKV to be created.

Chapter file for "Edition 2": Edition2.xml

Chapter file for "Edition 3": Edition3.xml

In order to create the MKV of Edition 2, I save the chapter file in (a copy of) the original Multi-edition MKV (replacing the original ordered chapters information), I load the MKV in MKVToolnix and then I select that the output must be splitted by chapters, in "all".

Once the process finishes I get multiple MKV files that must be ordered and joined. As I have identified the parts which are "not used", it is really easy to select the correct order. For example for edition 2 is:

001 + 014 + 003 + 015 + 005 + 016 + 007 + 017 + 009 + 018 + 011 + 019 + 013

I've checked all the "transition points" between parts, which are the "risky" areas, and all is OK. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that these points must be "key frames", as it is required for a smooth transition when playing the original MKV with ordered chapters.

The only pending job is to add the time of the original chapters in the resulting MKV files, but this is not really difficult.

The chapter times where you cut, could maybe a key frame and so works it for you with this movie.

I have other Blurays where the chapter marks not match to a key frame, and MTX don't cut this video on the positions I want.
In this movie was 20 chapters only, a number which it makes possible to work manually.

I understand your way you process the mkv and it is a luck for you, that I have changed "ordering" of the m2ts for the extra editions. In the old cE the "rest" m2ts files was ordered by the m2ts number. So you had many many more cut points.

When the cE1.00 is ready then I will think about such a feature.

The name "Matroska Menu Editor" no longer applies exactly because this editor contains the Matroska Linking theme.
There will be the menu function again later.

Matroska-Linking is one of the best Matroska features available, but unfortunately not widely used.
There are not any good tools yet, and the support for this feature is limited to a few software.


Let's start with the "simplest" Matroska-Linking, the Hard-Linking:

With Hard-Linking, Matroska files that are in a folder are linked virtually and seamlessly
via their Matroska SegmentUID elements PREV and NEXT.

The play order of the files can only be changed by re-setting the PREV and NEXT SegmentUIDs.

The MME sets up such Hard-Linking and can remove it.
The play order can be changed by moving the files in the list.


Possible player software:

The best software is the LAV splitter (https://www.videohelp.com/software/LAV-Filters)!
Unfortunately, VLC (https://www.videohelp.com/software/VLC-media-player)(VLC 2.2.x and 3.x) failed the tests.

For testing, I have a 3min file with MTX split into 30 seconds parts.
With the Hard-Linking the 3 minutes are seamlessly played in the LAV splitter, without jerks or disturbances.
VLC shows a total playing time of 3min07sec. At the "transitions" the video hangs for 1 second.



Another important change in the cE was switching Floats to Int64 for some "times".
In the ini are numbers that are now misinterpreted.
Please check the time values in the cE settings. (I have not had time yet, to program an
automatic to update the ini)

Yes it is simple. I'm sure you use MTX v20 now, and in this version has many changed and removed.

In the old cE I used the mkvinfo output, but all this outputs are removed/changed.
cE rev0.51 will work until version 19 only. Sorry but cE rev0.51 is outdated and not supported.

You should use the new cE1.00, or why you still use the old cE?

It continues with the next Matroska-Linking system, the Medium-Linking.


For Medium-Linking you need the SegmentUID and ordered chapters.
In a ChapterAtom, there is the "ChapterSegmentUID" element with the SegmentUID associated with the linked file. The start and end times of the chapter determine the length of the linking.
It is thus possible to store a large number of linkings in a separate Matroska file without changing the original files.


For Matroska Medium-Linking to work today, all files that are linked should have the same parameters.
(Theoretically, a very good Matroska splitter could also process Matroska files with different parameters.)


With the new Medium-Linking mode "Simple" you can link Matroska files with a separate main file.

A main play file can be created manually from one of the loaded source files.
Otherwise, such a file will automatically be created from the 1. source file.
I have many more automated, so you only have to make one click.
With a right-click the main play file can be played out of the cE.
Furthermore, there are a few options for the filename of the main file.
- Append name: the main filename will be appended to the source filename.
- Series prefix: with a prefix mask, series prefixes can be adopted and adapted. The main filename will be appended to the new prefix.

Wildcard: "?" - The character from the source file is adopted
Wildcard: ":" - The character is a number, which is replaced by a "0"
Other characters must be exactly the same in the source file
Example:
Source file: S01E01 - First Episode.mkv
Prefix mask: ????::??? or S??E::?-?
Main play file full name: S01E00 - Mainmenu.mkv



Options for using chapters
4 different chapters options for the main play file are available.
- No chapters(invisible)
- One chapter per file
- Takeover original chapters
- Original chapters and a separate edition for each file
For option 3 and 4, the original chapters should be ordered, otherwise cE will perform an internal chapter end-time calculation.
For option 1 and 2, ordered chapters are created using a playing time.
For all options, a playing time may/must be used, which may be the file playing time or the standard video track duration.


Standard video track duration
For Medium-Linking it is sometimes important to synchronize the chapter times with the video times so that the linked videos are played seamlessly.
Sometimes the file playing time is sufficient, but often this time is too big.
Determining the video times works very fast with the Statistics Tags and is 99.9% accurate. However, not all MKV muxer write these Tags.
I've slightly expanded the internal Matroska parser to parse the clusters, giving you 100% accurate video times. However, this method takes a little bit.
Both methods can be used simultaneously. First, cE searchs for Statistics Tags.
If you always want to work with the Cluster method, only this must be activated.
If neither method is active or the Tags are not found then the file duration will be used.


Chapter Structure Options:
The simple top-level structure can be processed with any Matroska Splitter.
Nested Chapters - LAV Splitter (https://www.videohelp.com/software/LAV-Filters):
The chapter structure is specially adapted for LAV Splitter.
Source file editions are better represented using nested chapters in the chapter menu.
Other splitters can also handle this structure (VLC (https://www.videohelp.com/software/VLC-media-player), mpv). The chapter presentation can be different.


Player software:
The two best players are MPC-HC/BE: All chapter options are processed properly.
VLC launches without problems and also plays the 1st edition, but hangs when selecting a different edition (chapter option 4).
The chapter options 1-3 are played by many players. Mpv does it with the best. ZoomPlayer and MPDN also work.

Mosu had added new functions in the MTX Chapter Editor, which I also included in the cE.
Furthermore, there will be a new auxiliary function starting with MTX Version 22:
Remove dialog normalization from special audio tracks.

This feature is now available for the Disc2mkv editors.
For me, this eliminates the demux of such audio tracks with eac3to.
I guess Mosu will release the new version in the coming days.

Otherwise there are a lot of improvements.

While working through the RC-Todo list I found a few bugs.
Ordered Chapters:
Since the Matroska specs are not clear enough, I have improved there some checks.
If the endtime is missing this is not a direct Matroska error, but such chapters disturb the playback,
since no virtual playing time can be calculated.



Creating a mtxcfg file for the Disc2mkv editors is now available again.
The mtxcfg file is a settings file for MKVToolNix (https://www.videohelp.com/software/MKVToolNix) (MTX).
The mtxcfg file opens MTX automatically if certain system settings are set (correct program linkage).

In cE such a mtxcfg file is created with all settings and you can then make other settings in MTX that are not present in the cE.
Thus, one can also edit multi-Angle/Edition Blu-rays/DVDs with MTX.

You can now also create the MKV files yourself (no longer with cE).
For this, the CMD/Bash file or mtxcfg file can then be used.

A series Blu-ray can be transferred to MTX within a few seconds using 1-Click mode with all cE presets (selected tracks, sorted, etc.).

The chapter converter has been extended a bit.
The FPS conversion can now be used for all output formats.
The conversion is always active, as is the case in ChapterGen.
The chapter times are thus changed immediately when loading.

The options for series may be quite helpful.
Episodes of a series with an intro and/or credits can be linked quickly.
The first mkv file is the intro and the last mkv file are the credits.
On the hard disk, the files can be different ordered, the order is deciding how it is in the cE.

GrassValley Edius does not support senseful marker lists on import and export, it works using its own propritairy file formats only. So I'm looking for a chapter conversation software which can deal with these uncommon formats.
Is it possible to add the two chapter formats supported by GrassValley Edius?
