After a little longer time, today there is a major update rev0.42 (http://forum.gleitz.info/attachment.php?attachmentid=98878&d=1451211726)


The Matroska Tags Editor got a lot of hotkeys, so you can do everything with the keyboard.

The Matroska Menu Editor was in the foreground, which got some improvements.
A "short main menu video" (in which the menu Chapter.xml and Tags.xml is stored) can now be automatically created with a button.
Furthermore, I have tried to integrate "Nested-Chapters" for menu editions that contain several videos.
This works so far quite well, unfortunately the LAV Splitter has a very very limited support.
There are apparently no "ordered chapters" processed, only the ChapterStartTime is used.
As long as you cut out from a video or omitting anything with ordered chapters parts of the video, everything works.
It is even possible to separate something from the front and/or back from the video and LAV Splitter works then with the Nested Chapters too.

Thus in the main menu edition, if they are repeated more than once, not always the short main menu video is playing, you can limit it to once.
Even better is if you do it invisible.
This first chapter-mark is no longer displayed in the LAV Splitter Chapter menu (but is used when playing (or start) this edition).

To save this 2 formats "as" in every editor is one way, but i don't like them. I think you mean this with "like chapterGrabber does".

The new Converter is desigend to do such jobs.
I will add this 2 output formats.
And the question: Need you other input formats(i think multiAVCHD) or is xml for the moment enaugh?

The plan for "simply & fast" is, to use a "direct save" option.
Then you gets the converted output file directly after a drag&drop input file.

When you save a chapter (save as) you can choose between different formats.

When I use this behavior, I must add to all my editors(OGG,XML,TTXT,multiAVCHD) in the "save as" button this output formats.

You ask me is it possible to "save as" Celltimes or Timcodes file - like ChapterGrabber does.
ChappterGrabber has only one editor page and then you can save (Menu->File->save) your chapters to different chapter formats (Celltimes and Timecodes and more).
In my chapterEditor there are 4 "chapter editor pages" - and there are a "save as" button. (OGG-> save as -> txt ; XML -> save as xml(or in a Matroska file) and so on).
My xml-editor is desigend to build Matroska xml chapter files. To save in another format will be possible but it was not planed and maybe a little bit much work.

I have added Celltimes and Timecodes formats as output in the Converter, if you like I will send you an email with this pre-build.

Thanks hubblec4 :-)BTW, in the XML format editor, I now must set language and country for all chapters every time manually, otherwise mkvtoolnixGUI will not mux output because of chapterfile error.
I don't know what has changed over time, mkvtoolnix or ChapterEditor.
Would it be possible to auto-set a preferred default language and country for all chapters when opening a file (only the ones that have none)?

Strange, I can't reproduce the error anymore...

It's been a while since I had mkvtoolnix' chapterfile errors and since then I always added language and country manually and things were going ok.
I wonder maybe if it was a glitch in one of the many GUI's or mkvmerge.exe editions that past by; mkvtoolnix updates many times.
I'm sorry to have bothered you with this, hubblec4. I will go on with creating xml chapterfiles the old way and I will report back to you when things go wrong again.

(I tried updating, then uninstalling MySQL altogether (restarting after each action)- neither of which had any effect..)

Thus the chapter Segment Linking continues to function is used from now at least version 9.0.0.

I uninstalled MySQL & still receive the same error. Even before uninstalling I was not running my own instance (intentionally)- if that was happening, it was somehow being run or called by chapterEditor (I don't believe that was the case, especially since the issue continues after all traces of MySQL (which I had never used or even configured) seem to be removed).

BTW, error I get says:

I registered for the chapter database (successfully I presume) and whenever I try to login I receive that error- even using the CLI.
I get the same error on my other computer as well.

I tried fresh latest mkvtoolnix install; no luck :-(
Also tried disabling antivirus, re-downloading CE, re-installing java.
Don't know for sure, but can it be this is from version 0.45? I don't have old version anymore.

Mkvinfo.txt is normally not created for loading chapters.
Mkvinfo.txt will be used to extract the play duration of mkv.
I can't reproduce this behavior.

Don't know for sure, but can it be this is from version 0.45? I don't have old version anymore.
From rev0.45 to rev0.46 the change is so small, only the --no-gui paramter is added to mkvinfo.exe commandline.

I found something. Uninstalled latest mkv toolnix. Installed mkvtoolnix 32bit-8.9.0. It works.
After installing mkvtoolnix 32bit 9.0.0 or 9.0.1 it doesn't work :-(
I'm running windows 7 64bit.

cE rev0.46 needs mkvtoolnix 9.0.0 or higher.
cE rev0.45 use mkvtoolnix till version 8.9.0

Again thanks for your work.

I changed languagecode to "eng" and countrycode to "uk" for a specific chapterfile.
Imported into mkvtoolnix. I got error during muxing: "The XML chapter file '***chapters.xml' contains an error: 'uk' is not a valid ccTLD country code."
When I change country to us things are ok.

Any thoughts?

"uk - Großbritannien" is indeed wrong. The bibliographic entry "gb" should be used.
"us" means United States, that's not the correct country code you would like to use.

I have watched at this page (http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/English_list.php) linked from the Matroska page.

There exists a country code uk and it means Ukrainian.
MkvToolNix don't support this code. Maybe a MTX issue?

ISO 639.2 are language codes, not country codes though, and ccTLD is not ISO 639.2, so either the error message is wrong or something else is whacky.

From the matroska spec site, ChapCountry wants actual ccTLD country codes, it even links here:

Mmh, in the MTX-GUI is "uk" not present and ".uk" is invalid too.
(I must use MTX-GUI as reference.)

EDIT: I was remembering incorrectly.

I thought that Matroska uses ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes for its countries. Those are very similar but not identical to the list of top-level domains. The .uk/.gb difference is one of those more popular discrepancies. See e.g. the Wikipedia entry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2) about ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes.

However, the specs clearly say that Matroska uses TLD codes. Therefore this is a bug in MKVToolNix as MKVToolNix uses ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes (in the source code both terms are actually used, and the list of codes seems to be the ISO list, not the IANA ccTLD list). I'll see about fixing it.

Addendum: I've opened an issue (https://github.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/issues/1731) for this in my bug tracker so it won't get lost.

As XinOneGenerator does not support DVDs, I've tried to use the "DVD2MKV Editor" of chapterEditor, as it includes a option labeled "edition ordered". However, it seems that it is not possible to get both editions/languages of the movie in just one MKV file, using ordered chapters.

Am I doing something wrong? If this feature is not supported it would be great to include it in ChapterEditor, since it is not available in any other program (as far as I know...).

Sorry, but my DVD2mkv editor is not able to mux a multi edition mkv.
I have try to figure out what I have to do, but the ifo parsing is not so easy. PGC-demux is in commandline mode limited so I can't generate an mkv with both contents.
I then looked deeper into the IFO parsing and I could imagine that is it possible. (But I have so less time at the moment)
Do you know an other program that can process IFO's better than PGC-demux in commandline mode?

The "ordered edition" checkbox is useful if you would generate a Matroska menu, where you have to use ordered editions.

Unfortunately my knowledge about IFOs, PGCs and cells is very limited, and I even have problems trying to understand the options of PGC-demux in GUI mode.

I have two ways in my mind:
1. I found a commandline tool which can process VOB's via VOBID's with an append mode option.
2. I generate a new IFO with a new PGC which have the correct order of the VOBID's.


The best I've been able to get is a MKV with ordered chapters of a DVD with multiple angles, since both versions have the same duration so it is possible to get manually the required files. Of course an automatic process would be welcome.

The angel scenes have the same duration, so you cut this parts and append them to the final mkv?
Thats indeed a lot of manually work and maybe not exactly.

Really I didn't do any manual "cutting":

Opening the DVD (the one sent to you) in MakeMKV I detected that the movie (title 4) had two angles, with the following segment maps:

Angle 1: 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19
Angle 2: 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19


The only difference is the second segment of each angle (segment=2 for angle 1, and segment=3 for angle 2)

I opened the "VTS_04_0.IFO" with PgcDemuxMod (in GUI mode), in "Single cell" mode, and with "titles" selected in "Cell selection - Domain". The program shows the following list:

01 (01/01)--> 00:00:15.20
02 (02/01)--> 00:00:13.00

By selecting one of these cells, it is possible to demux the audio/video/subtitles of corresponding cell independenly (I just demuxed the cells 01 to 04, which corresponds to the area of the movie "affected" by the multi-angle).

Also, cells 02 and 03 corresponds to the same part of the movie (cell 02 for angle 01 and cell 03 for angle 02), so I append the demuxed files of cell 03 (angle 02) to a MKV of the whole movie (created selecting angle 1).

As when demuxing with PgcDemuxMod a "Celltimes.txt" is created, and taking into consideration that the movie is PAL (25 frames per second), is is possible to obtain the duration of each cell (and adding times, the time when each cell starts in the movie).

With all this information I created a chapter.xml file, with two editions, so in the second edition (corresponding to angle 2) instead of cell 02, the cell 03 (at the end of MKV) is shown. By using "Hidden chapters", these chapters used to control the different editions are not shown in the navigation menu of the player.

I've checked the result and both audio and video seems OK in the transition points of the different part of the movie, in both editions.

Maybe there are better ways to make this (or using other options of PgcDemuxMod, which I really don't understand), but with my knoledge is the best I can do...

Wow, thats indeed a possible way(workaround) with not so much work.

You have an mkv(by makemkv) for the whole content of the angle 1. And then append you the demuxed cell-streams (video , audios, subs) from angle 2 to these mkv in MKVToolNixGUI. Is that right?
If this really work then should it be easy (more or less) to realize a DVDmulti-edition-mkv.

The idea is to get one of the editions at the beginning of the MKV, and the differences of the others editions at the end. In this way, in players incompatible with ordered chapters the first edition can be always played (it is the same as with Xin1generator).

In my case I chose the first angle as "main" edition. This first part of the MKV can be generated with MakeMKV or even with the DVD2MKV module of ChapterEditor (In this case take into account that your program only considers the first angle, as far as I know, so if the "main" edition is the angle 2, it is not possible to use it).

The main difficulty when working manually is not to append the different cells at the end, but to generate the chapter xml with correct times for the second edition.

Also, if the DVD has different editions controlled by PGCs, and not by multi-angle, the manual process is realy very difficult and time consuming...
