You just run MPUI.exe. You can open files with MPUI.exe "c:\my folder\my file.avi". If you want to append a file in the playlist then use MPUI.exe -enqueue "c:\my folder\my file.avi". Loading playlists MPUI.exe "c:\my folder\playlist.m3u" or URLs MPUI.exe http://www.server.com/file.mp3 works just the same way.
But have a look at the case of *.ram playlist files which have to be resolved, try http://www.bbc.co.uk/cymru/live/rc-live.ram: I do not find a way playing them with mpui.exe (except adding -playlist in the mpui options, but then other files will not play). To play .ram with mplayer.exe, I have to use the flag "-playlist". With mpui.exe, I do not see a dynamic way. See what I mean?

I've just downloaded that .ram file, opened it with MPUI and it works fine!
MPUI will parse the .ram file properly and load the specified URL.

The command MPUI.exe "c:\downloaded\rc-live.ram" works fine.
Same for loading the URL diretly with MPUI.exe rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/cymru/live/cymru_dsat_g2.ra

So I don't understand your problem...

BTW: There is no -playlist command in MPUI.exe !!!

I see what you mean, but imo it's a workaround: The typical or most likely way of calling the url would be "mpui http://www.bbc.co.uk/cymru/live/rc-live.ram", which does not work, because mpui does not resolve then.

Same with mplayer.exe itself. A lot of people run into the error message "end of file. exiting." because they don't know they have to add "-playlist" when using .ram. With .asx, they don't have to use "-playlist", whough this is also one.

Actually, I think most of the time it would be opened in response to a browser click, which means that it's already cached locally by the time MPUI opens it. Also: Play File works, since the common open dialog is equivalent to clicking a file in IE. Play URL doesn't, though it should. Getting Play URL and opening on command line working would probably be the same thing.

That's not how it is intended to work! The idea of .ram file is, that you download it in your Web-Browser and then open it with your favourite Player. The player will read the URL of the stream from that .ram file, connect to the stream and play it. Usually they will link to the .ram file on their website. So if you click on that link, your Browser will show a Download dialog and ask for an application to open the downloaded file with. That would be MPUI in your case. If you do it that way, there shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to open the stream directly (without downloading a playlist file first), then of course you will have to tell your player the URL of the Stream and not the URL of the playlist file! Anything else would be sensless. Either you open the Stream directly or you use a playlist file. That's just it.

So everything works as expected and I don't think there is anything to be fixed here...

Hi; this looks really exciting (considering I've been using MPF [MPlayer Frontend]) for, like, forever...

But one question before I install everything; in the first post you write "I've just put together a full package of MPlayer for Windows (MPUI).
This package contains everything you'll need in one single download!"

But you list a second download: "MakeInstantPlayer"

Can you please provide a short description of the function/purpose/result of this additional download in the top post? (i.e. What is it? What's it for? What's it do?)

Thanks for considering!

makeinstant player is a different software seperate of mplayer. it's a kind of packing editor that puts video files together with mplayer creating an exe file that runs without need for any player to be installed on the system.
so you don't need it ^^

@ExtraEye - Thanks for prompt response; sounds interesting.
Is there more info somewhere on InstantPlayer, or is it a case of "install it and check it out"?

It's a very simple tool, just download and check it out ;)

I'm having subtitle issues with the latest Full-Package of Mplayer.

A forum member not too long ago said to use -slang en -sid 0 -subfont-autoscale 0 -subfont-text-scale 25 in the "Additional MPlayer Parameters" section to get subs to show up nicely, and they were with my previous Full-Package installer.

Some subs for some movies show up entirely black now, and some for other movies have strange artifacting to the right of the text.

All my subs are currently in the idx/sub format.

I was very glad when I saw the new version, dated 2006-11-03. The problem is, the files are infected with a trojan, reported by Kaspersky. So please clean it up and repost it.

Don't tell me about false positives again

Once again: There is no trojan or anything alike! The MPlayer builds are kindly provided by Celtic Druid, MPUI was compiled with Delphi7 Pro and the installer is made with NSIS. All sources are OpenSource and obviously there's no trojan in them !!!

Please get proper AV software or tell the author about the problem!

it is a problem with the NSIS installer... LoRd_MuldeR can't do much about it... and he's right - get a proper AV software. IMHO AntiVir is on top of them all and soon after I had this false positive reported by AntiVir too, they released an updated virus definition file no 24h later (I reported them its behaviour) ... and guess what, no more false positives with NSIS installers ;)

I think pretty much every AV software has reported false positives for NSIS installers at some time or another.

One moment please...

Here we go:

Add this to "Additional MPlayer parameters" :
-ac hwac3, (for AC-3 passthrough) or -ac hwdts, (for DTS passthrough)

The , suffx is important, so it will still play none-AC3/DTS audio!

//EDIT

I would add this as an checkbox to the options window, but it would need to extend all translations.
Something I really don't like to do *g*

I can't seem to get mplayer rc1 downloaded from the official homepage of mplayer to load the real video codec included in the windows binary codecs package downloaded from the same site and unzipped to the codecs directory. I am using the mplayer.exe from the official site along with the mpui frontend.

Is it just a problem with rc1 build on the official site or did I put the codecs in the wrong place. It worked before with the mplayer pre build I had before.

Is there a way for me to specify the directory of the codecs in the windows build? something i can type in a configuration or ini file?

Transfer bandwidth of MPUI packages are 4-6GBytes/day just from softpedia,hispamp3,addict3d etc....
so, I've joined and redirect to these free hosts.(with refer from softpedia,hispamp3 so far )

also, sorry I'm toooo late to greeting you.
Could I mirror your great packages? (may not be permanently^^)

btw, sakuratan.xlphp.net banned in 1day... orz

Hello,
Audio (MP3) Problem :

It is terrible if I listen music with headphone.

Mulder,
I sometimes require MPUI to passthrough the AC3 and other times I require it to decode it to stereo output. I know I can change the settings etc, but I was thinking it would be nice if I could end up with 2 shortcuts to the player, 1 with passthrough sound and 1 with decoded sound. Is this possible? I was thinking maybe an alternative .INI file?
Is there a commandline to have MPUI load an alternative .INI? (This could be very handy ;) )
Or do you know of another way I could achieve this?
Thank you

There is no command-line parameter for this.
But you can put two MPUI.exe into two different directories, each with it's own MPUI.ini file...

So can I do it by just putting the MPUI.EXE file in a separate folder or do I have to copy across all of the installed files?

At least MPUI.exe and MPlayer.EXE.
If you need the Codecs (WMV, QuickTime, Real, ...), then you have to copy over the "codecs" folder too.

But I got another Idea:
Make two INI files and call them like "MPUI_1.INI" and "MPUI_2.INI".
Now make two Batch files.
First Batch will copy "MPUI_1.INI" -> "MPUI.INI" and launch MPUI.EXE.
Second Batch will copy "MPUI_2.INI" -> "MPUI.INI" and launch MPUI.EXE.
This way you can avoid having two copies of everything...

I use the SPDIF pass through commands, but regardless of whether I am playing a AC3 or DTS file the "clip information" always states "Channel: 2" even when I know the audio source is 5:1. Do you know why this is?
