Cool. Does it also play Quicktime? mov & mp4?

It should do, yes.

No, MPlayer doesn't use DirectShow filters. It comes with built-in H.264/AVC decoder :cool:

@Lord

Is there a way to crop with mplayer? Aka to zoom to remove black bars? I can't do it with VLC but I couldn't find it with mplayer. Thanks!

Nope. The filters are configured from the command-line, so no way to change parameters during playback.

BTW: Why you didn't crop the black borders at encoding time?

Add "-panscanrange -0.5" to the commandline and then you can zoom in and out during playback with 'w' and 'e'.

do you know anything about crashings @ seek with Blu-Ray H.264 streams (.m2ts) after the dev-SVN-r21977 build ?
seems all builds after this crash with a decode_video error message after seek.

Sorry, I neither have a Blue-Ray Drive nor do I see the need for one ATM.
But crashes in MPlayer should be reported to the MPlayer Mailing List....

Celtic Druid said that Pentium-M and Core2Duo builds currently are broken!
I'll have to wait until this problem has been solved, before I update my installer :(

Tried it. Doesn't work.

Copy pasted to make sure its spelled right.

From man page:

-panscan <0.0-1.0>
Enables pan-and-scan functionality (cropping the sides of e.g. a 16:9 movie to make it fit a 4:3 display without black bands). The range controls how much of the image is cropped. Only works with the xv, xmga, mga, gl, gl2, quartz, macosx and xvidix video output drivers.

-panscanrange <-19.0-99.0> (experimental)
Change the range of the pan-and-scan functionality (default: 1). Positive values mean multiples of the default range. Negative numbers mean you can zoom in up to a factor of -panscanrange+1. E.g. -panscanrange -3 allows a zoom factor of up to 4. This feature is experimental. Do not report bugs unless you are using -vo gl.

Hi!

Is it somehow possible to force MPlayer to output sound in stereo? When I use MPlayer to play AVIs that make use of DTS or AC3 the voices that appear in the movie are almost unhearable. I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that I'm using a stereo setup. VLC users are able to solve that problem by selecting "Stereo" as audio device. Can MPlayer do that, too?

-af channels=2 should do the job ;)

When we to expect new verison of Mplayer for Windows, Lord Mulder? Anytime soon?

Last time Celtic Druid did not make a complete set of new builds, because some CPU specific builds didn't compile at that time. I hope that problem will be fixed on the SVN and we see new builds soon. Until then I will delay update. I don't want to remove certain CPU types from my installer nor do I want to mix current and old builds...

How can I do this with MPlayer for Windows? If I use -fps 23.976 it works but returns very stuttery playback. There's a PAL > NTSC option on XBMC (mplayer for xbox) and it yields amazing conversion quality...

*Update*

Updated all MPlayer builds to 2007-05-23 :cool:

Note: There's no 'Core2 Duo' specific build this time, but speed improvement was negligible anyway.
Core2 Duo users are supposed to use the Prescott builds now!

celtic_druid

For Core2, I think the Prescott build is probably best.

Thanks for your reply, Celtic Druid :)

Can I expect future Core2 Duo builds, or am I supposed to remove it permanently from the installer?
Or maybe rename 'Pentium 4 with Prescott Core' -> 'Pentium 4 Prescott / Core 2 Duo' ???

celtic_druid

Also good for Core1's. I might consider future builds, if I can get it to compile. People with Core2's still might prefer to use the gcc4.2 Prescott build though.

I will then remove 'Core 2' and rename Prescott to 'Prescott / Core / Core 2".
Any doubts ???

Using the latest build, I can't seem to see subtitles?

Before I was using the build on SourceForge (if I remember correctly), which loaded the subtitles instantly.

The subtitles in question are standard .srt files, they work with other players. The 'subtitle track' part in the GUI of MPUI is greyed out.

For some reason this does appear in 'show mplayer output':
SUB: Detected subtitle file format: subviewer
SUB: Read 821 subtitles.
SUB: Adjusted 301 subtitle(s).

celtic_druid

Subs working fine here (using mplayer without a GUI though).

I might possibly just go back to the old SourceForge build, I read your post but I wasn't sure of exactly what is the solution - sorry, but an explanation if possible please?

celtic_druid

Well if I am right, then it has nothing to do with MPUI; it is mplayer that you would want to change.

Basically comes down to the fact that I moved the mplayer config dir. Either you were using a bmp based font (mplayer\font\font.desc), a default true type font (mplayer\subfont.ttf) or you had loaded one in your config file (font=c:\windows\fonts\arial.ttf).

Easiest is probably just to enable fontconfig and ass. Should auto load a true type font for you then (works without ass, but you probably need to scale). Otherwise you could move your font from mplayer.exe\mplayer to %APPDATA%\mplayer and things should work like before.

Tried this, but it didn't work. Just to point out this is the first time that I have installed MPUI, before that it was simply unzipping files.

This is the one which, when I tried recently, works fine with the files:
MPUI-1.2-pre3_with_MPlayer-SVN-r19966.zip

It does have a mplayer.exe\mplayer folder, but that only contains 'config'.

celtic_druid
26th May 2007, 07:52
Ok, looks like it isn't my moving the config dir.

The problem is the new -subfont option.

Where ever MPUI is loading a font, you need to copy it and add subfont, so if you had -font c:\windows\fonts\whatever.ttf, then you would add -subfont c:\windows\fonts\whatevr.ttf (they don't need to be the same font, like I guess you could use an LCD font for the OSD). You could also add font=x/subfont=y to your config.

I'd still recommend adding:
ass=true
fontconfig=true
to your config if you want an easy solution.

chongy5
26th May 2007, 08:06
When I add the ass=true and fontconfig=true into config in Application Data\mplayer, like so:

# Write your default config options here!

ass=true
fontconfig=true

MPUI says it cannot play the file. I'm assuming it's how I've inputted it is wrong, since it has messages in the output such as:
Playing ass=true.
File not found: 'ass=true'
Failed to open ass=true.

Playing fontconfig=true.
File not found: 'fontconfig=true'
Failed to open fontconfig=true.

Sorry, but help once again please!

celtic_druid
26th May 2007, 08:25
No idea how that would happen. MPUI is parsing the config file looking for input? Makes no sense.

Next issue I had was that the subs were fine, the OSD was too big and the OSD text was way too big.
subfont-osd-scale="3.5"
subfont-text-scale="2.5"
which made the subs too small, so
ass-font-scale="1.5"

One final issue is that I am no longer getting OSD symbols for brightness, etc. Just checked though and it is the same with the previous build, so I guess that is unrelated.

chongy5
26th May 2007, 08:45
I got it working!
I'm not sure if I overlooked a detail from before, but all I did was copy a font (Arial) into my mplayer application data file, rename it subfont.ttf, and it worked!

Thanks for helping.

Previous build would install. Latest build (2007-05-28) won't install -- says "MPlayer for Windows is currently running on your computer. All runnig instances need to be closed in order to proceed installation!" The misspelling "runnig" is in the dialog. No copy of MPlayer was running at the time.

I cannot reproduce this behavior here :(

Please reboot your PC and try again! What OS are you running?
Can others re-produce this ????

BTW: I didn't change anything on that point, so I doubt something got broke here...

// EDIT

Fixed the misspelling for next release :p

what about changing this in future builds?

I'm currently thinking about switching from MPUI to SMPlayer...

LoRd_MuldeR

Well, compared to MPUI it's much more bloated: As SMPlayer is based on QT4, it requires all the QT Runtime DLLs. That means SMPlayer plus the required DLLs are about 16 MB in size, while MPUI is only ~500 KB in size and doesn't need any Runtime Libs. Nevertheless SMPlayer is much more up-to-date than MPUI and it has much more features implemented, like built-in support for Subtitles and Multiple Audio streams. Also the whole GUI is more "state-of-the-art" than MPUI. And probably the most important point: SMPlayer is under active development while MPUI seems to be stopped...

Still I prefer MPUI as a lightweight player, probably the most lightweight player you can get. But SMPlayer seems to replace MPUI for "normal" purpose...

*Update*

I have updated my MPlayer for Windows package. The great news is, that the package now contains the SMPlayer front-end. Of course good old MPUI is still included. Also we still have the "Light" package without SMPlayer included. Please test the new installer and give me some feedback, as it's not tested very much yet...

That's a surprise. I'll test the package tonight.

(I don't know if people is going to like it, as now the package will be much bigger, I guess).

As SMPlayer is based on QT4, it requires all the QT Runtime DLLs. That means SMPlayer plus the required DLLs are about 16 MB in size

Maybe it could take less size by compiling it statically. I haven't done yet because that requires to recompile the whole Qt library (which takes several hours), and because then I couldn't release small binaries updates anymore.

10th June 2007, 19:18
that's cool but now I'm confused. isn't mpui a frontend? so if you use smplayer as the front end what's the difference between the using smplayer and mpui?
