tranzcode in windows 95 compatability what o/s are you using?
WinXP.
I also noticed that there is an option in Windows Media Encoder to load each individual .wav for the 5.1 sound encode, so if anyone is struggling with wavavimux the former may be a workaround.
I currently have an encode going with Windows Media Encoder. I used the Sonic 4.3 HD Demultiplexer with the Sonic DVD Decoder filters for my graph, then created the corresponding .avs file. I loaded this with my audio .avi into Windows Media Encoder and set a VBR that will allow me to burn the resulting file onto a DVD-9.
I just finished the first pass after about 24hrs, so about this time tomorrow I should have a finished file...sheesh! (I might try CBR when this is done and compare quality. Maybe the extra 24hrs won't be necessary if I find the quality to be acceptable.)

Howabout this:
1. EVO Demux
2. VC12AVI ( VC-1 ES to AVI Multiplexer) http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=128943
3. convert ripped DVD AC3 to WMA (from DVD version of movie)
4. Mux with VirtualDub.
Wouldn't that be simpler?
For WMV yes I agree that would be simplier but I am trying to find a means of having a HD video both 360 and Playstation 3 compatiable. The Video I have nailed and successfully played back on PS3 and 360....its just the audio I am having problems with.....but I will not be beaten
If anyone can find a audio format that Nero Recode is prepared to accept then the problem is solved. I have attempted feeding the audio via an AVS file and it does load up with Nero Recode but when it comes to the encode the Graph fails to load properly making the encode unsuccessful. I am now looking into TMPGEnc as it has the option to mux both an audio and video stream together. The problem with this though is that it will not play ball with the video I give it but work with the audio (Sod's law I know). I mean either that or we just take the audio source from the original DVD version (which Nero Recode will accept and play with the HD video you load up) but that is not a route I am prepared to follow as it does not make it easier for people which is what I am trying to do. I mean thinking about it the HD DVD that have the DVD on the other side you could do it that way. If anyone wants to get involved with this please do message me and I'll give you the complete rundown on what I am doing. And once its been mastered I'll write up the guide and make it available to everyone :)
REMEMBER the more information we share the faster we move along as a whole
PS: If this is successful it will only be ANYDVD HD (or any other HD DVD ripping software), EVODEMUX and NERO with BLU-RAY HD DVD PLUGIN that will be needed instead of all these other programs (which is why I am adamant to make it work)

If you are struggling with WAVAVIMUX its because its installed to the wrong folder (YOU MUST INSTALL it to the folder you are working from) which if you followed the guide would be the 'HD' folder in your C: drive.

Do you do anything to the output from EvoDemux? Whenever I copy the evo files from a disk using AnyDVD HD and then rebuild them with EvoDemux, I end up with a movie that has strange stutters for the first couple of minutes (it seems to jump forward a few frames and then pause while time catches up). It's only those first minutes though - the rest of the movie is always perfect.
If the files are extract from the disk using BackupHDDVD, I have no problems at all. Unfortunately I can't use that on the new MKB4 disks.

I do not REBUILD I always DEMUX. I have found that with REBUILDING its just putting the streams you ticked together as one and does not allow for file extension change and will automatically save itself as an EVO. I DEMUX to M2V (MPEG 2 Video Only) for the video (which does seem to have some problems with certain Giant Robot movie so in that case use M4V (MPEG 4 Video Only) which plays it back fine and even picks it up in Nero Recode for encoding to AVC video, AAC audio which is then packaged into an MP4 file which can be read by both the 360 and the PS3. Its the audio that is doing my fucking brain in!

Just a heads up for everyone that what I am attempting with Nero Recode is not going to be possible unless I add a muxing program into it before the Recode to put the audio stream and video stream together.

do this still mean that you dont need 13 programs  it may still be possible with three or four.

My apologises to all for not being online recently but been unwell :( ... anyway down to business.
After abit of work I have found a means of getting the video and audio to MUX in TMPGEnc. Now I am doing this by the following means..
HD DVD RIPPER -- EVO DEMUX -- CREATE GRAPH for VIDEO -- CREATE AVS for VIDEO (then load up the AVS file in TMPGEnc) and for the audio I used exactly the same technique as I did for WMV HD which can be found in my guide further back on this thread). Now TMPGEnc will allow you to output to many different formats such as MPEG4, AVC, VOB, WMV, MOV, AVI, DIVX but to name afew and encoding times on it are quite good aswell.... BUT! yes unfortunately there is a but...once it is encoded I find the output file to be very pixelated and I believe this to be down to one or two things....the first being Sonic Cinemaster 4.3 (going to try 4.2 when I get my hands on it) or a setting that I have overlooked within TMPGEnc.
Now I did intend to cut the amount of programs and knowledge needed to have a video file that could be both PS3 and 360 compatiable but this is the only means I have found and does require the following software.
ANY DVD HD, EVO DEMUX, EAC3TO, GRAPHEDIT, AVISYNTH, WAVAVIMUX, TRANZCODE, NERO, NERO HD DVD BLURAY PLUGIN and TMPGENC = 10 programs in total. Hand on heart this is not what I wanted and I do not really feel I have made it any easier or straight forward. The only thing I can say is that it does not limit you on what file format you want to use as the OUTPUT. There are still afew kinks I need to work out but I am getting there.
If anyone wants to help or is prepared to test my new workaround please do let me know as the more help I get with this the sooner we can draw it to a close.

Had the same problems with Sonic Cinemaster 4.3-green pixelation in play-back etc. Uninstalled it totally & got 4.2.
What version of TMPGEnc are you using-Xpress 4?
What are you using in Graphedit as your file source etc. for your video-same as in your tutorial?
I've used Sonic 4.2 & I've been following your tutorial to a great extent but got off track after using WMCD & 55 hours later finished with video that I wasn't happy with. Trying it again with higher settings on an older XP machine-60 hours encode time.
Then I tried to create a video mkv file in Graphedit from my original evo-using Haley's splitter as file source...etc. to dump.mkv. For some unknown reason my rebuilt-merged evo file for King Kong had 22,946,192 kb-played perfectly when rendered through Graphedit to end of movie-3 hr. 8 min. But the mkv file created using Graphedit to dump.mkv produced a 22,595,831 kb file a 2hr. 11 min video I thought mkv was just a container-why did it cut out an hour of the movie. Obviously, I still don't know how to create a proper mkv file. Any suggestions to create mkv? But why bother when I'll likely have raw evodemuxed files?
Followed Bitwize suggestion (but his conversions are from mkv-not from a merged evo file) & then use Expression Encoder-used his settings at 720p resolution-which produced great video wmv but encoding ended at 2:11 min..It did stream perfectly to Xbox 360-of course, without audio.
My audio stream is just great using eac3to, tranzcode, wavimux etc. as you do-5.1 which plays perfectly through the receiver.
As I wasn't happy with the video & long encode time-decided to try Bitwize method to encode mkv throught Expression Encoder & then as he suggests to stream the video & audio using Windows Stream Editor. This method has apparently produced good results for Bitwize.
Using TMPGENC encodes both audio & video & would cut-out 1-step for me as Expression Encoder does not output 5.1 audio & I don't want 2 channel sound.
Thanks again for your tutorial-I would never have got this far without your detail as to loading the filters & codecs etc.
I know that TMPGENC Xpress 4-is used successfully frommkv on another forum site-I didn't want to spend the money until I determined it was worthwhile-sick of spending $ on programs that I don't use. Microsoft Expression Encoder produces great video-but I won't buy it once the trial is up because it doesn't do at least 5.1 audio!!
Picked my name 'bendurdunthat' after a month of trying to encode HD DVD to stream to an Xbox.
Anyway, I've learned alot.

Well hold on to your horses before you start paying for anything. I am currently making the video avs file save as AVI from virtualdub. Now if we can get our hands on a free AVI video and audio muxer then we cann load the the file into Nero Recode and do it that way giving us both a PS3 and 360 compatiable file :)

I thought no one would ever offer :)
Right this is how we stand on the situation. We can make an WMV from a HD DVD with full 5.1 surround sound which works flawlessly on the 360 (my guide is available further back in this thread). Now I have been messing around with things like NERO RECODE, VIRTUALDUB, TMPGEnc and muxers to get a PS3 and 360 compatiable file but to no success. All im doing is ripping the HD DVD as usual and then demuxing it with either VC1, AVC or M4V extension (depends on the film) for the video and oblivously DDP for the audio (which I then convert to WAV with EACH3TO and then to 6 seperate WAV files with TRANZCODE and then into one AVI audio file with WAVAVIMUX) and then creating the corresponding graph and AVS files for both the video and the audio (which are seperate at first as you cannot have both audio and video in one AVS file at the same time. You have to join the two AVS files into another AVS) Now with the video I use the following filters for the Graph...
VIDEO_SOURCE --- SONIC HD DEMUXER --- CYBERLINK H.264/AVC VIDEO DECODER or SONIC CINEMASTER 4.3 VIDEO DECODER (the last filter depends and can vary from film to film)
With the audio we do the following Graph...
AUDIO_SOURCE --- AC3 FILTER
Now when I attempt playback with Nero Showtime they work perfectly and when I join both the audio and video AVS files into one it once agains works perfectly and it even lets me load into Nero Recode for encoding and it even does the first pass but on the second pass the graph for the audio appears to fail (I still cannot get down to the bottom of it) so NERO RECODE is out. If we could get NeroRecode to work then problem solved as it makes the output an MP4 file which is 360 and PS3 compatiable (had just the video which I can encode properly via Recode running on both systems and on PS3 a giant robot HD movie looks so much better). So with that option exhausted I moved on to TMPGEnc which does accept the audio without it being graphed or being an AVS file but when it accepts the video it saids the time frames do not match and it crashes (I did even try to load up the AVS file of the video with the correct FRAME RATE so the time would correct itself but it crashes) but I am going to try more with that tonight hopefully. My last attempt was last night with VIRTUALDUB and feeding it an AVS file that contained both the audio and video and saving the output into AVI which worked beautifully.... APART from the file size being 20GB with only 3 minutes worth of the film.
I also have some Nero Recode error logs which I will be making available for download later so people can see where it is we are going wrong.

Another option I am looking for is a command prompt or GUI based AVC/AAC/MPEG encoder/transcoder which can accept AVS based files. That would conquer this problem also but only on the Playstation3 I fear.

I own 360 and will be getting ps3 for xmas.
THe work I've done with HD-DVD is I bought the HD-DVD 360 attachment the day that the keys came online! I was so psyched for this lol. After about 3 months of trying to follow guides and failing miserably, I stopped. I just got like 2 terabytes of hard drive space and backed up all my hd-dvd and would hit play from hard disk in powerdvd. Since that is no longer an option with 3319f, here I am! I have also become an avid user of vista media center, so I would like to get my full 1080p movies playable in that. And please, nobody say the works "My Movies" to me.... that is a very sensitive subject.
So for the past couple week, I have been trying the newer updated guides, including yours, and naturally I would have to stop when this program or that program failed to install or register the decoders, etc.
When I cam across your post about an easier way to backup hd-dvds. well... here I am.
I have about 5 computers worthy of the encoding...
a 3.2ghz c2d, vista
a 3.0ghz c2d, xp
a 2.2ghz c2d, xp
a 2.5ghz amdX2, vista
a 2.2ghz amd64, mce2005
Oh, as I mentioned, I own TMPGenc express 4.0 and cyberlink powerdvd
Like I said, anything I can do to help, I will do.

To be honest with you my friend if it is true that the EVO can be loaded up via TMPGEnc then there really is no more work at all to do with regards to HD DVD as TMPGEnc gives you the means to output to pratically any format. I am going to look more into this EVO and TMPGEnc thing this evening and if it works I shall start writing up another guide covering all the steps. So have you actually been successful in creating a WMV HD with 5.1 surround sound from a HD DVD? If not what problems are you having? Oh and also if you are successful just download and install a program called MacDrive 7 which makes your HDD HFS+ partition which has no file limitation size and is completely read and accepted on the 360. So a much nicer easier way of watching your films without having to have a dozen things running :) I might now look into a means though of working up a guide on using FREEWARE tools only. What do you think?

It does m8, i have sucessfully used TMPGEnc to make 2 WMV movies using the EVO as the source file. You have to have a suitable decoder to open it, i used Sonic Cineplayer HD DVD decoder. Rebuild the evo file from HD DVD to contain only the 1 video and 1 audio source. Use FFMPEG to encode the EAC3 stream to AC3. Then open the rebuilt evo and the new ac3 file in TMPGEnc. Your system will hang opening the EVO file though if you have AC3Filter istalled, the EAC3 file is not compatible with TMPGEnc and causes the problem but is not needed to encode the audio to WMV anyway.

I have gotten tmpgenc to open the evo, but it keeps crashing before I get to the output phase. I am rebuilding the evo with video only, see if i can encode that alone, then ill do the audio after. ill report back!

No you do not have to have haali splitter installed. The audio stream within the EVO does cause problems with TMPEnc, i had to remove the AC3Filter completley to get it to work. Have you replaceed the audio in TMPEnc with the FFMPEG created ac3? Also are you using version 4.2 of the Cineplayer Decoder? Thats the one i got.
I put this word document together which shows what i done, its rough mind!

Also, when rebuilding the EVO are you un-ticking the subs too? I dont know if this could cause probs but i didnt tick em, just 1 audio and 1 video.

subs are unticked. i also have not converted the audio and only have video ticked in this new evo. Finally got tmpgenc to the encoding stage this way. I did 2-pass cbr on last samurai, and calculated the kbps to be a little over 21000... i am trying for NO compression, I just want the ease of use of wmv-hd. So, in 9 more hours, ill have a wmv with no audio. want would be the best way to get the audio in with the video? With NO compression of the audio track would be nice.

I am very eager to try this new method but where I have sought so many other means and not looked after my setup properly I am getting errors all over the place so I am going to go and restart my entire system and then retry it all.

heres a n00b one for ya seph. trying to convert my demuxed audio track with extension .eac3 to an ac3 file.
eac3to is saying nero audio decoder 2 instance failed... what nero should i have installed?
edit: installed nero 7.8.5.0, now i get removing dialog normalization... decoding with directshow (nero)...disabling DRC for Nero Eac3 decoding... takes about 1 minute, then nothing...

DO NOT use Nero 8 as this can lead to failure and secondly you will need the Blu-Ray HD DVD Plugin serial for Nero also. Personally I use Nero 7.10.0.1 (I know its an older version but it seems bug free and does what I want)

I thought we use ffmpeg for getting ac3 from eac3! I tried using ffmpeg on the main evo stream and kept getting errors something about noise and not being supported. I then cancelled the process and played the ac3 back and heard noise in the left channel! Did I do something wrong?
I used this command line --- ffmpeg -i FEATURE_1.EVO -vn -acodec ac3 -ab 448k -map 0:3 -ac 6 audio.ac3

Right I have not followed this new method done by Dezza but if all you lot want is a 5.1 ac3 audio file then follow these prompts
DEMUX audio stream with a DDP extension --- load up EACH3TO or the GUI (bear in mind you need EAC3TO files to use the GUI) and then load up the DDP file and then change the output to AC3. I can not see the difference from taking the audio from the EVO and doing it this way either. It should give you the same file in the end.

I agree, the audio doesnt have to be jsut decoded from the evo. it was the method in the guide i first tried and i just stuck with it. Also, ffmpeg is apparently buggy with EAC3 streams but the errors it kicks out do not appear to have caused any problems for me so far.

@dezza9995
Can you give a link to the version of ffmpeg your using for audio. Maybe your version is ok, I'd like to try it. Thanks

Will be putting it all to practive myself tonight lads. Oh and for those who may of read my earlier post about using the audio seperately DO NOT as it does not macth and has some serious sync issues. Rip the audio from the REBUILT EVO as stated by Dezza in the first place :)

Oh and Dezza does this FFMPEG have to be anywhere in particular on your system or does it need to be with any other files or anything my friend?

Nope, i just got the FFMpeg executable in the same folder as the rebuilt evo to make it easier to imput the dos command.

MAJOR CHANGE OF PLANS
New PS3 firmware now supports VC-1 (WMV)
You can now just make WMV files!!!! :)

Ahh, yes, been waiting for this. But there are questions until tomorrow --
Will we be able to use tsremux like we do now for BR AVC encodes, by loading in the m2ts from the BR disc and remuxing, then split to <4GB, then copy and play from an external USB HDD via XMB with no problems? Hopefully, yes! and hopefully from a burnt DVD also!
And will it support 5.1 ac3??
Another general question to all. Probably all of you prefer either WMV9 (VC1) or AVC (H.264) to encode to for backups, but now with divx support also in this update will anyone be changing? I recently found out that divx is about 3 times as fast encoding than h.264. I only have an older P4, 2.8GHz machine. For me encodes must not be longer than overnight or I won't do it, I'll just use the original for backup, just remuxed. That clip I tried was 1.5 hr. long, taking 21 hrs using h.264, but only 7 hrs using divx (TMPGEnc).
Comments??
