Can anyone tell me the easiest way to convert EVO files to WMV HD so I can stream movies from my PC to my HDTV.

Thanks.

P.S. I have Windows Vista!

ya i've been looking around for a few hours on the forum and i can't get a real answer on what to use or how to really do this...i think it's possible but a real pain to do right now...

wtf do you do after you demux the evo files into m2v and audio??? what conversion programs will do this?

If you use graphedit to make a graph (with the sonic demuxer and decoder but without the renderer) you can feed this grf file to Avisynth using DirectShowSource.

I've encoded a couple of HDDVD's this, but still looking to get the DD+ track into my encoder...

I've noticed many folks on this forum use Sonic Scenarist 4.1 demuxer and/or decoder, but it's difficult to find! I use Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra to playback HD-DVDs and I've noticed there are many Cyberlink DirectShow filters available from within graphedit. I just don't know which ones to use and in what order!http://farm1.static.flickr.com/171/411325827_a3ed2c79c9.jpg?v=0

Graphedit does not allow me to add the relevant filt HD-DVD filters... But it should be anything like file source...demux...decode

Can anyone tell me if this filter graph is correct and what the next steps would be to encode and mux to WMV? I've been wondering if crypto's WMV muxer (available on this forum) may be used here?

You can feed this grf to avisynth by using directshowsource. Note Avisynth can only handle video or audio, not both at the same time

I believe there is a long thread on this matter and it is an area of continued work:

Thank you, sxt173. I went thru that thread, but I didn't find what I was looking for. So far, I've been successful demuxing an EVO file to VC-1 and DD+/DTS-HD using EVO demux (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=EVOdemux). I've also been able to play a VC-1 video inside WMP11. I constructed the GRF file as follows:
File Source Async. (VC-1)>Intervideo Demultiplexer>Intervideo Video Decoder.
The AVS file is as follows:
Directshowsource("C:\Path to GRF file\ivTest.GRF",fps=23.976,audio=false,seekzero=false,seek=true).trim(0,3000).
Associate the file type AVS to WMP11 and there you have it!
Getting the audio seems to be the tricky part!!!

Anyhow, for those of you who have Sonic Scenarist 4.1 and VirtualDub running under Windows XP (there are some problems under Vista I understand!), you may use this guide (http://hdclips.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2411&pid=10317&mode=threaded&show=&st=&).

@ olivierdb

Yeah, syncing the video and audio, or even getting each is the main problem right now. Keep an eye on the link I sent, I think that's where the main development work is going on.

My hopes: Being able to use something as easy as DVD Decrypter to rip HDDVD's to ISO.

So far, I have not managed to convert any HD-DVDs to WMV HD. I am having difficulties converting the AVS files to WMV HD under Vista. However, I have patially succeeded in converting HD-DVDs to xvid + mp3, albeit out of sync! Please see the following screenshot of graphedit. Should you have any idea how to get the audio and video in sync please post on this thread.

i tried to use nero mediahome to stream a 720p wmv of the fifth element to my xbox 360. even after messing with all of the transcode settings in mediahome it would constantly stutter and pause while streaming. the movie plays fine if burned to a dvd-r in the xbox 360 itself...

There could be several reasons for that! I presume you're streaming over a wireless connection... in which case 802.11g may not be sufficient and you would instead need a wi-fi router that supports 802.11n. Otherwise, have you tried the "keep original format" for all the transcoding options?

FYI - If you have Windows Vista, you won't need Nero MediaHome to stream a WMV movie to your XBox, because the Windows Connect media server is integrated into the Windows Media Player 11 under Vista.

Windows Media Connect is integrated in WMP11 on XP as well...

Only use for mediahome is if you don't have a wmv file and want to transcode

ya i know that, but i'd rather use one application to stream all media types.

i was using a wired 100 mbit linksys switch, and i tried a direct cable connection as well, but neither worked very well.

i tried all the transcoding options in mediahome...didnt seem to have much effect.

all my low res divx, quicktime, etc movies streamed fine, but the 720p wmv didnt work for crap...

just fyi..

OK, here it is! A small guide explaining how to convert an HD-DVD to WMV HD file for streaming to a wireless media player or your XBox. Feel free to chose other parameter settings for your encoding process. The ones I have used are probably not optimal and please don't forget to share your findings with the rest of the community.

Guide to convert HD-DVDs to WMV HD with 2 audio channels

Please note that this solution is by no means the only solution possible nor is it necessarily the best! It's just proven to work for me!

If you are looking for 5.1 channel support, please refer to this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=996428#post996428) a little further in this thread!

Required software :

1) AnyDVD HD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html)[Commercial] or BackupHDDVD (http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/BackupHDDVD.shtml) [Free]
2) EVO Demux (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=EVOdemux)[Free]
3) InterVideo WinDVD8 (http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Downloads.jsp)[Commercial]
4) DTS/AC3/DD+ source filter (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=974218#post974218)[Free]
5) AviSynth (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023) [Free]
6) WM Encoder 9 Series (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx)[Free]
7) Alex Zambelli’s Windows Media Encoder Command Line Script Utility (WMCmd.vbs (http://www.citizeninsomniac.com/WMV/)) [Free]

Install guide

Installations are quite straight forward with a few exceptions:

1) To install DTS/AC3/DD+ source filter, extract “dtsac3source-full.ax” to C:\Windows\System32 then register the filter using Start>Run and entering “regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\dtsac3source-full.ax” (without the quotes!)

2) WM Encoder 9 Series should install in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder. Rename the original WMCmd.vbs located there in and extract Zambelli’s WMCmd.vbs to this location.

Conversion Guide

STEP 1: Rip HD-DVD
Use AnyDVD HD or BackupHDDVD to rip the contents of your HD-DVD to your Hard Disk.

STEP 2: Demux main EVO files
In this step, you will demux the EVO files previously ripped into namely DTS HD audio and VC-1 video.
Open EVO Demux and select the “Options” tab. Specify the following extensions respectively for video, audio and subtitles: vc1, dts and sup. Then make sure “Count Frames” and “Continue with second EVO” are checked. Next, chose the “Status” tab, browse to and select your first main EVO file. Your file will first be analyzed and the total number of “calculated frames” will appear at the bottom. Write this number down.

STEP 3: Create GRF files for the audio and video

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/217/443851798_94954e17ab_o.jpg

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/254/443851802_ae00c3e176_b.jpg

STEP 4: Create the corresponding AVS files

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/201/443851808_43e7cb4dce_o.jpg

Erratum: "9999" should read "3000"!

STEP 5: Create the BAT file to encode the last AVS file to WMV HD

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/242/443851812_a716cf538c_o.jpg

Double click on the .bat file to start encoding…

Oliverdb- Great guide! Really helpful and informative. I do have a couple questions:

Number 1: What about AVC encoded HD-DVD's? I would assume you could render the video using the intervideo demultiplexer as well, but I just wanted to ask

Number 2: I notice in your Avisynth script it looks like you are re-encoding the video using wm9, have you tried using VC1 encoding? (In which case you would have to cap the bitrate around 6500 kbit/sec for the media center extender). I just wondered if you played with both codecs or not. Anyhow, all your work is greatly appreciated by many, thanks again.

You're most welcome vitodeluca.

1) InterVideo demultiplexer should be able to demux AVC encoded HD-DVDs as well, but I haven't tested because I don't have an AVC encoded HD movie.

2) Actually, in my wmcmd.bat file, I used "-v_mode 2" which is constant quality one-pass, so the bitrate parameter would be ignored. I've also tested WVC1 encoding with jubilex's parameters (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=977632#post977632) (I just had to change the number of audio channels to 2 and reduced the bit rate to 192 because my ears can't make the difference!). The results were awesome! Here's how you should amend the wmcmd.bat file:

cscript.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\wmcmd.vbs" -input "C:\path to\sourec.avs" -output "C:\path to\ouput.wmv" -v_bframedist 1 -v_bdeltaqp 1 -v_mslevel 1 -v_codec wvc1 -v_keydist 3 -v_mode 2 -v_quality 96 -v_mmatch 0 -v_msrange 0 -v_performance 20 -v_loopfilter 1 -a_codec wmapro -a_setting 192_44_2_24

I've followed the instructions and the video seems to be working...except I'm not getting audio for the movies. I did however get the short cartoon in front of March of the Penguins to work...

I'm using the same GRF file as you are...DD source+ along with the Intervideo audio decoder.

Any hints? Also, I've been pushing the AVS into DivX converter... Following the script for WMV HD I was getting gigantic files...

Something must be wrong about the command-line - that error is coming from the command-line parser.

Can you copy here the part of the batch file that calls wmcmd.vbs?

@NHRaider: Have you tried playing the Audio_Only.avs in WMP?

I'm only having problems with the audio. I can watch the video loading .avs into WMP. I can load the audio .avs into WMP and I can see that it is running and that the time of 1:20 is correct. It's just not outputting any sound. I've tried this on both King Kong and March of the Penguins. I was able to get the audio working with the Bugs Bunny short that comes with March of the Penguins but that may be due to it being stereo and not DD (not sure). I have the same exact filters you are using. I also noticed that in the graphedit file that I have the 2 filters, I have an open XFORM out port on the Intervideo Audio Decoder. Does that need some termination like a encoder or renderer?? or is it ok having the open output on the filter

DirectShowFilters -> DTS/AC3/DD+ Source
DirectShowFilters -> Intervideo Audio Decoder

I also tried:

DirectShowFilters -> DTS/AC3/DD+ Source
DirectShowFilters -> AC3 Filter

Same result. Running the .avs file in WMP shows it playing with the correct time of 1:20 but no sound...!!!

Also, I have a quick question re: to the size of the outputs...The bugs bunny short was about 1GB EVO. The script created a 1.8GB WMV HD file. I used 96 quality. This seems large. When I put the .avs file into DivX converter, the file comes out 250MB... Is that just the difference between 1080p and 720p? Or is this a paramenter issue with the .vbs?

Thanks in advance!

BTW: I've had this in the background for 5 days trying to figure it out...It was killing me waiting for the 5 day registration waiting period!

olivierdb
6th April 2007, 17:49
@NHRaider: HAHAHA!!! Yeah, those 5 days waiting time were a real nuisance to me too!

Anyhow, I suggest you open the AudioAndVideo.avs file with VirtualDub and check the parameters under File>File Information. Check if the settings for wmcmd.vbs make sense with those under VirtualDub. Also check audio parameters in EVO Demux (when reading the EVO file). Sorry I'm not of a great help here, you need someone more knowledgeable than myself.

Mind you, if the Audio_Only.avs doesn't play, it seems that there is an issue in the GRF file! Either with the DD+ filter or the InterVideo audio decoder. Do you have the Sonic Audio Decoder? You could try that in the place of InterVideo.

Yeah..something is wrong with the GRF audio...just don't know what it is!! I've tried every Audio decoder there was in filter...Cyberlink, Intervideo, Sonic, AC3 etc...

I've demuxed to wma and wmp in addition to the dts and vc1... Same result...can view the video in WMP...but the audio shows playing but no sound!

No Sonic Demuxer...all I have for filters for sonic is a Cinemaster decoder...

I'm not sure how I can have this DD issue with the only 2 videos I have...March of the Penguin and King Kong...

I also did the first back-up of king kong using DVDFab HD decryptor so AnyDVD wasn't even in the picture at that point.

I'm totally stumped...the only audio I was able to work was the Bugs Bunny cartoon included in the HD-DVD for penguin...

On the March of the Penguin, there are several movies on it beyond the feature. Each of them are DD.

I can get audio to work for ALL of them except for the feature. Is there some sort of size limitation that I need some parameter changed? Or am I getting some permission/restriction that is stopping the audio?

Not sure but I can get smaller EVOs to work but not larger ones.

I have subsequently loaded the Sonic HD pack 4.2 and have been able to get audio with that filter...so at least that is accomplished...now need to see if I can create the WMV HD file and stream it... Next step would be to figure out how to get sound that is more than 2 channel and then tweak the vbs parameters...

I've been testing the file I created...took about 12 hours to finish with the script above.

Source EVO = 11GB => WMV HD = 4.7GB.

I will try different parameters to get the results I'm looking for.

I'm streaming on a Helios X-5000. I tried a script that had the audio codec above and with a preset and a few other parameters. When I streamed, I got a "Broadcast Not Supported" message on my Helios. Not sure if it was the audio or one of the other parameters. I'll have to do a process of elimination to find out which one is the culprit.

Thanks again for all the help and the guide to do this...

Now all we need is for someone to package this all up in one App!!

I love the Helios x-5000...Nothing to not love...upscaling 1080p...streams the majority of stuff I have...no problems streaming very large files (>30GB)...only missing support for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray...it is firmware upgradable but I assume that the chip isn't capable...but for $350 it's worth it. When the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray is available on the Helios, I will be buying it...I hate screwing with disks..

Oh...btw, I used your -a_codec above and worked without issue. So at least I know that it wasn't the audio causing the broadcast warning...Now I just need to figure out .vbs settings to get great quality with minimal file size!!!

I'm looking at the documentation:

-a_setting Bitrate_SamplingRate_Channels_BitDepth.
For example, -a_setting 250_44_2_24 specifies 250 Kbps, 44 kHz, two channels, and 24-bit encoding. Use either 16- or 24-bit encoding. 24-bit is the default.

Am I constrained to 2 channel? Is there 6 channel WMV9 that I need to load something?

I was looking through the formats and didn't see anything but 2 channel except for:
WMALSL : Windows Media Audio 9.2 Lossless (WMALSL):
No, you ought to see 6-channel modes listed for WMAPRO too.

I guess I'm confused with Windows Media Audio 10 Professional re: WMV9. My media player can stream WMV9 but doesn't state any audio compatibility.

I may have 2 problems...It seems the only audio filter that works for me is Sonic Cinemaster Audio Decoder 4.2 which seems to be 2 channel. If I use AC3 after that filter, it sounds like LPs playing on 45's speed.

On the wmapro, I'm looking at the codecs on my machine and was trying to match a 6 channel with the bitsample(16 most of these movies I have) along with sampling (48K). When I look at the bitrate output for EVO demux, I don't seem to find a bitrate that matches...

Here is my script:
cscript.exe "wmcmd.vbs" -input "audioandvideo.avs" -output "test.wmv" -v_codec wmv9 -v_mode 0 -v_bitrate 8000000 -v_keydist 30 -v_buffer 600000 -v_quality 75 -a_codec wmapro -a_setting 640_48_6_24

This is the log file generated from running the script:

So I was able to set the a_setting and have it stream for 6 channels. That part of the problem is solved. Now I just need to find an Audio Decoder with more than 2 channels what works on my machine. I've been screwing with AC3 settings but it's speed is way off...

Most standalone players supporting WMV playback only support WMA Standard, but I'd recommend you google around for information. I'm sure other people have run into the same question.

Well I guess that's pretty clear: there's a crash occurring in one of the Roxio components. Also, note that it's apparently outputting 8 channels. You might want to encode to 8 channel WMA Pro then.

What are you decoding? AC3? You should be able to use AC3Filter for that.

I'm not sure if my player will play the wmapro. I output with 6 channel and it DID play. Unfortunately, it was playing wrong speed so I can't definately confirm it can stream yet, but at least it didn't give an "unsupported broadcast" message.

I tried using 8 channel output to see what is going on. It's weird that it's trying to use a component from DVDitPro HD. I used 768_48_8_24 (and every other 8 channel output) and got an error "Prepare to encode failed with error -1072886856 The input media format is invalid." I think this error comes from 2 channel Sonic 4.2 audio decoder trying to output to 8 channel.

On the AC3...I have DD+ as the source. I'm using the DD+/Dts/AC3 source filter in GraphEdit. So far, the only audio decoder that I can get to play audio is Sonic cinemaster audio decoder 4.2. Unfortunately it's only 2 channels. I'd like to output either 5.1 or 7.1. That's why I was trying AC3...it allows me to change channels to 6 or 8 and at least I'm getting sound playing the .avs using WMP. The only problem is that it's like listening to chipmumks.

BTW: earlier in this thread, someone got ""Microsoft VBScript runtime error: Subscript out of range: 'intIndex2'" running his script and you asked how he got that...I mistakenly got the same error by giving -a_setting without giving the parameter.

@deakorn: I'm not sure what your post has to do with converting HD-DVDs to WMV HD. May I kindly suggest you create a new thread to make your issue more visible to everyone. Placing it here might cause some confusion!

Also, would you please clarify what it is you originally wanted to do? What is your source file and what is the target device or format? I think it would help if you would provide the .avs script and .grf files you're currently working with.

Thanks for your understanding.

I have been informed by CyberLink that "...you can use the CyberLink Media Deluxe (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_114_ENU.html) software to stream your HD video files to your wireless device...", i.e. Media Deluxe may be used as a media server to stream HD content from your PC to your wireless media player. Unfortunately, since I hit the reset button on my wireless HD media player (DLink DSM-520) it would not switch back on! I personally don't recommend this device as it has proven quite unstable and doesn't do a very good job of detecting media servers IMHO. I have also been unsuccessful in obtaining a precise list of supported audio and video formats from DLink.

If anyone has the opportunity to test CyberLink's Media Deluxe ability to stream HD-DVD content to any wireless media player, I would be most grateful if you would share your findings.

The Media Deluxe trial version may be downloaded here (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/trials_114_ENU.html). Please note that the file is quite large!
