I have been informed by CyberLink that "...you can use the CyberLink Media Deluxe (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_114_ENU.html) software to stream your HD video files to your wireless device...", i.e. Media Deluxe may be used as a media server to stream HD content from your PC to your wireless media player. Unfortunately, since I hit the reset button on my wireless HD media player (DLink DSM-520) it would not switch back on! I personally don't recommend this device as it has proven quite unstable and doesn't do a very good job of detecting media servers IMHO. I have also been unsuccessful in obtaining a precise list of supported audio and video formats from DLink.

If anyone has the opportunity to test CyberLink's Media Deluxe ability to stream HD-DVD content to any wireless media player, I would be most grateful if you would share your findings.

The Media Deluxe trial version may be downloaded here (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/trials_114_ENU.html). Please note that the file is quite large!

I use Wizd for streaming HD to my Helios X-5000 and also to my Dlink DSM-520. I like Wizd since it can stream DVD .ISO files, as well as DivX HD and WMV HD...

I've had no issues with it...

Nice! You're very resourceful NHraider. Thank you for sharing.

Actually, I thought Media Deluxe would allow for the streaming of HD content (from HD-DVD drives connected to a PC) directly to a wireless media player, but that would still require the wireless media player to be able to play back the HD format being used. This is where Nero MediaHome sounded nice, because it had built-in transcoding. Unfortunately, Nero's HD-DVD plugin doesn't allow Nero MediaHome to read HD content! Currently, it is still not possible to use the HD-DVD plugin with Nero Recode either, so you can't easily recode the HD-DVD to say Nero Digital AVC video with Nero HE-AAC audio (which along with WMV HD video and WMA Pro audio are my prefered formats to encode to)!

@olivierdb i have taken the DTS-HD ran it threw graphedit file (async)>SonicHD Demux>Dump then i took dts core and got a clean dts file like AJCrowley stated in another topic in this forum. I used Tranzcode to get 6 mono wavs from the clean dts core. now i want to creat a wma file to mux into a wmv. I would like to use procoder if its possible or i wouldnt mind using the command line wme but again i dont know how to create the avisynth script in order for these programs to use all 6 channels.

I hope this helps

I can stream VOB files and ISO files through Wizd and the Helios player. I've been screwing around with this thread so I can convert HD-DVD to WMV9 HD so I can stream with the same configuration. Until they upgrade to stream EVO files or some image backup of EVO then we will still be stuck doing the conversions.

BTW...I'm still stuck on the 2 channel output for DD+

I just got Discovery Brazil and used AC3 off the Dts/DD source filter and that was able to play 6 channels! but it isn't dd+ or the true HD

Sonic was the only one I got to work with DD+ but the 4.2 decoder for audio is ONLY 2 channels...

I've got zero hits on any suggestions beyond that so far...

wtf.

I have been watching this thread with interest now for a while and i can't believe that no one has sussed it, them smeg / devils 360 guys seem to have got it down to tee, all i get is 17 gb movie files with no audio??? there must be something missing somewhere, any of the big boys got any ideas or want to write a tutorial?
Thanks.

Oliverdb started his thread and created the draft but it needs a lot more information to complete the cycle. Some of these "experts" should document this tutorial on how to convert HD-DVD to WMV9 so they don't get upset with people asking dumb questions or hijacking certain threads. :thanks:

I've gone through this process and still need a few pointers but at a minimum here are the topics which need to be discussed.

1) Filters. Understanding the type of movie converted and the various combination of filters to use on them...for example, for Video: use File Sources (asych) > Demux > video decoder. Audio is a WHOLE other ballgame. Now you don't use File Sources (asynch) but need a modified version of the DTS/AC3/DD+ source (which of course I can't seem to find googling). Then there is the audio decoder. If I use Intervideo you only get 2 channel. If you use AC3, I get sounds like chipmunks. I get sonic cinemaster 4.2 but that is only 2 channel as well (even though the muxer says 6).

2) AVS files...pretty straight forward

3) WMCmd.vbs... this has it's own thread with some presets. Of course the presets don't stream via my Helios media player since some setting can't be broadcast. The audio again seems to need clarification of applying EVO demux analysis for selecting which output -a_setting.
* BUT I was just recently told that 6 channel on 24 bitsPerSample is huge and I need 3 other thingys to output to 6 mono then put them back together again!!!

If someone could explain this tutorial a little better, we can all live happily ever after...but until that time, of course, I'll still be asking stupid questions! :)

I've managed to be able to take 20GB HD-DVD and create 8GB WMV9 files that are pretty good video quality...just want more than 2 channels! The search goes on...

i tried to do this with my 2 hddvd's but having some problems creating "video_only.grf". When i add the EVO file, GraphEdit hangs.

I never used Graphedit before, so can anyone please explain me how to create this "video" GRF-File step by step?

thanks a lot.

olivierdb

@rancor187:

1. Open GraphEdit
2. Select Graph>Insert Filters... from the menu
3. Expand the DirectShow Filters list by clicking on the "+" sign
4. Click on the button "Insert Filetr"
5. In the dialog box that opens, select the VC-1 file that you will have created with EVO Demux (if you select an EVO file directly, you'll probably be missing the second EVO file corresponding to the second half of your HD movie)
6. Add the remaining filters and link the appropriate PINs.

Hope this helps!

I have been trying to get this working for a while(5 days). I believe that I have done all the steps of the tutorial correctly, and I added in the audio setting to my script, but when I try to encode it doesn't work. In my output text file it says that it "failed to retrieve source duration from plug-in" and in the wmv file created there is a message "Timeout waiting for graph to start" Any ideas? If you need some more info I will be happy to provide it as I would really like to get this working.

Just wondering, but have you checked in control panel and made sure that both your system settings are set to 5.1 speakers as well as the Sonic Cinemaster audio settings?
You would need both set to 5.1 before it'll work.

@wolly6973: In your Video_Only.avs file, please replace:

Directshowsource("C:\Path to Video GRF file\Video_Only.GRF", fps=23.976, audio=false, seekzero=false, seek=true).trim(0,3000)

with:

Directshowsource("C:\Path to Video GRF file\Video_Only.GRF", fps=23.976, audio=false, seekzero=false, seek=true, framecount=xxxx)

and replace "xxxx" with the amount of calculated frames obtained from EVO Demux.

If that doesn't work, please copy-paste the information pertaining to the audio stream you're using from EVO Demux. Also, please open a Dos window (Run>cmd), type the following:

cscript wmcmd.vbs -a_codecs

and copy-paste the results to this thread along with the wmcmd.bat script you're using.

I tried encoding the video separately. So right now the problem is that there is no length. I haven't gotten around to encoding the audio yet. I was planning on muxing them eventually.

I got my video to start encoding, but I got this...

This is my video avs...
Directshowsource("C:\Video_Only.GRF", fps=23.976, audio=false, framecount = 160000, seekzero=false, seek=true)

Does it matter what order things are in?

My grf right now
filesource(async) -> Sonic hd demuxer -> Sonic Cinemaster Video Decoder 4.2 -> Null renderer(on cc out)

My wmcmd script(for video only)...
cscript.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\wmcmd.vbs" -input "C:\Video_Only.avs" -output "C:\OK.wmv" -v_codec WVC1 -videoonly -v_mode 0 -v_bitrate 8000000 -v_preset better -v_buffer 60000 -v_quality 100

Another quick question... How do I know if I am encoding to 1080p/i or 720p?

olivierdb
23rd April 2007, 17:56
@wolly6973: I had those same error messages when using Sonic Video Decoder. I reported that problem but am still awaiting a response! I recommend you use InterVideo Video Decoder (which installs with WinDVD 8). Everything else you've done seems fine to me!

To know if you've encoded to 1080 or 720, you may use VirtualDub: Open your .avs file in VirtualDub and select File>Info.

wolly6973
23rd April 2007, 18:18
I switched to intervideo's decoder and demuxer...At first it says it can't find duration..trying alternate method. Then it says that the duration is only 10 seconds!! It is wierd though because it continues to encode after the 10 seconds are done, but it no longer gives me the progress. Also, what kind of encoding speeds are normal? For those 10 seconds my speed was only around 0.1x. I have an athlon 64 3500+ and 1.5gb ram.

olivierdb
23rd April 2007, 18:46
@wolly6973: Try using either framecount=3000 or .trim(0,3000) as shown above to encode just the first few minutes of your movie. It shouldn't take long too encode.

wolly6973
23rd April 2007, 18:55

Does your video (.avs) play in WMP or VirtualDub? In VirtualDub, check the file length.

wolly6973
23rd April 2007, 19:36
It will not play in WMP. It plays in virtualdub, but it is very slow and choppy. It reports the correct number of frames in virtualdub(I tried the original 160000 and 3000).

23rd April 2007, 20:26
hey there wally-
Are you using an h264 source? just wondering. Not cyber-eave's drop, but I had that same thing happen when I tried to encode (the 10 seconds length reported). This is not a problem as the program continues to run and the encode finishes. As far as the playback goes, it could just be that your computer is slow and choking on the VC1. I also notice you don't have any resize paramters in your command line, so you most likely encoded to 1080p, which can be hard for any but the fastest computers. Have you tried streaming it yet? You also might want to get rid of the v_buffer value in your command line, if you look in the thread about wmcmd in the new and alternative video codecs section it is discussed. Also, ditch the null renderer in your graph, all you need is the video decoder.

I would also like to share some of my experiences with everyone. I attempted to rip Equilibrium HDDVD and have discovered the following:

-When using a h264 encoded source, evodemuxer will give you files with the incorrect length. I tried a million different ways to handle the output demuxed video, and the length was always wrong. The way around this is to demux-> rebuild evo with single audio track-> open evo in graphedit and graph with evo-> sonic hd demultiplexer-> sonic video decoder (don't do anything with the audio) and use that as your avs source. When you check that avs in virtual dub for some reason it reports it correctly. There still seems to be a problem demuxing certain evobs, especially those in H264.

-DD+ sound to 6 channels: this is not very well documented in any one place, but as far as I can tell from reading through numerous threads on this board, graphedit and all available filters performance on rendering this to true 6 channel output as an input to the command line encoder is spotty at best. The best option I found was to simply demux the audio, use the tool called EAC3TOAC3 (check the evob muxer/demultiplexer thread) to create 6 mono wavs from the file, then input those into wmencoder to get the audio. When you use the command line, simply use the -video_only option to reencode the video, and then use wmmuxer to mux the video and audio. If you try and output 6 channels using graphedit in won't work, not really sure why. Something about the windows media .dll's not playing nice with sonic audio decoder or something.

I hope these things help, as this information is the result of hours of banging my head against a wall. :)

wolly6973
23rd April 2007, 20:45
Just to let you know it is h264. I am letting the encode run it's course while I go to work to see what I get.

Ok, it is in 1920x1088.How do I know if that is 1080i or p? I tried your method of rebuilding with one audio track...If I use the sonic codecs I get all those Content Exceptions from my previous post, and it does the 10 second thing. With Intervideo I only get the 10 seconds, but no no content exceptions. It is still working on encoding the whole movie.

vitodeluca
24th April 2007, 17:12
It's definitely p- the only way it would be interlaced is if you added that option into your command line to interlace it. As far as the exceptions, don't worry about them. The other thing I was going to mention is that you might have the correct length output file but your video might hang partway through. I always check the length of the video only avs first before encoding.

wolly6973
25th April 2007, 01:07
So how long should this encoding be taking? My file size right now is 2 Gb and it has been encoding for about 22 hrs. I have an athlon 64 3500+.

I'm not sure if you have figured this out already or not but when I had this problem it was due to the renderer being attached to the video output pin on my graph. The graph has to have an open video out pin at the end of the chain for Avisynth to connect to.

wolly6973

I don't think that's the problem, there is a renderer on the line 21 output, but the video out is open. It will also encode the movie, I just don't get a progress or speed report after it does the 10 seconds.

BTW, it's been about 50 hrs encoding and it's still going. I think it is time to upgrade the processor! Does anyone know which is better; a big honkin single core, or a decent dual core?

Check out http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html. Tom's hardware is the place for hardware performance info. Look at some of the CPU tests that involve encoding. Its the best way to find the best bang for your buck for what you want to use it for.

Ok here is where I am at. I am new to this so I want to give complete background.

My filter graphs look like this

audio:
dts/ac3/dd+ source => Sonic Cinemaster Audio decoder => Ac3 filter

Filter set to 5.1 pcm 16bit use spdif checked

When i render the pin and run it i get great audio out.

Video:
vc1 file => sonic hd demuxer =>sonic Cinemaster video decoder

Video is great no problem.

Audio I get nothing when I command line it.

I then oppened avs in vurtual dub and save the WAV file.
When I play this file it appears to be a 6 channel file as it registers ad DD on my receiver

However if I try to split it into 6 wav files with besweet I get a center channel with some good sound and all the other channels are screaching

If I try and encode the video using the wav file straight from virtualdub I get video but no audio?

What am I doing wrong here/

I've had a lot of trouble trying to obtain WMA with 5.1 channels. I used eac3to, besweet, tranzcode, Windows multichannel combiner. I followed instructions on other threads, but nothing worked for me! There sometimes is quite a gap between theory and practice! So I decided to create a simpler guide that would offer support for 2 channels only until some clever person comes up with an easier and more reliable way to transcode DD+ to 5.1 ch WMA Pro. From my point of view, if it takes a day to transcode, there has got to be a better solution. If I find that solution, I will be happy to share it, until then, maybe 5.1 channel support should be left to the real handymen out there!

If you can get the DD+ decoded to mono WAVs - encoding to WMA Pro should be a piece of cake. As long as they are 16 or 24 bit mono PCM WAV files - WME9 will take them.

I think thats his problem (its been mine at least). No matter what I try I cant get any program to convert the audio to 6 mono wavs.
Ive been getting great help and just got two new pieces of info that hopefully will do the trick for me finally! :-)

If I do it I will report back.

11) Windows Media Mono to Multichannel Wave Combiner 9 Series (WavAviMux (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/utilities.aspx)) [Free]

Install guide

Installations are quite straight forward with a few exceptions:

1) To install DTS/AC3/DD+ source filter, extract “dtsac3source-full.ax” to C:\Windows\System32 then register the filter using Start>Run and entering “regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\dtsac3source-full.ax” (without the quotes!)

2) WM Encoder 9 Series should install in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder. Rename the original WMCmd.vbs located there in and extract Zambelli’s WMCmd.vbs to this location.

3) Place Tranzcode in your C:\Windows\System32 folder and place eac3to and sox in the same folder as the audio and video source files you wish to transcode.

Conversion Guide

STEP 1: Rip HD-DVD
Use AnyDVD HD or BackupHDDVD or DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip the contents of your HD-DVD to your Hard Disk.

STEP 2: Demux main EVO files
In this step, you will demux the EVO files previously ripped into namely DD+ audio and VC-1 video.
Open EVO Demux and select the “Options” tab. Specify the following extensions respectively for video, audio and subtitles: vc1, ddp and sup. Then make sure “Count Frames” and “Continue with second EVO” are checked. Next, chose the “Status” tab, browse to and select your first main EVO file. Your file will first be analyzed and the total number of “calculated frames” will appear at the bottom. Write this number down.

STEP 3: Create GRF file for the VC-1 video file using the following sequence of filters in graphedit:

File Async(Video_Source.vc1) > Sonic HD Demuxer > Sonic Cinemaster VideoDecoder 4.2

(Save the file as Video_Only.grf for example.)

STEP 4: Create the corresponding Avisynth script file:

Directshowsource("C:\Path to\Video_Only.grf", fps=23.976, audio=false, seekzero=false, seek=true, framecount=xxxx)

where you should replace "xxxx" with the total amount of calculated frames obtained from EVO Demux. (Save the file as Video_Only.avs for example.)

STEP 5: Create the batch file containing the complete transcoding process detailed below

eac3to.exe "C:\Path to\Audio_Source.ddp" "C:\Path to\output.wav"
tranzcode.exe "C:\Path to\output.wav"
wavavimux -o audio.avi -iwav 6 output-FL.wav output-FR.wav output-C.wav output-LFE.wav output-SL.wav output-SR.wav -mask 63
cscript.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\wmcmd.vbs" -input "C:\Path to\Video_Only.avs" -a_input "C:\Path to\audio.avi" -output "C:\Path to\output.wmv" -v_bframedist 1 -v_bdeltaqp 1 -v_mslevel 1 -v_codec wvc1 -v_keydist 3 -v_mode 2 -v_quality 96 -v_mmatch 0 -v_msrange 0 -v_performance 20 -v_loopfilter 1 -a_codec wmapro -a_setting 384_48_6_16

Save the file with the extension ".bat". Be sure to have "Path to" pointing to the same folder in which eac3to and sox are located along with all your audio and video source files.

Doubleclick on the .bat file and... be patient! :(
(I have an Intel Core 2 Duo @2.4GHz and it takes approx. 10 mins to encode 1 min of movie, i.e. a 1 hour movie will take about 10 hours to encode! But I'm not sure if the process is linear so I guess it may take more or less time!)

Finally, just a word of thanks to Zambelli and all others who have made this small guide possible!

For those of you still encountering problems, I would also recommend keeping an eye on this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=991220#post991220).

I am trying this as soon as I get home...is this works you are going to be my hero! :)
One question, what is that AUDIO.AVI mentioned in the bat file?

@shaolin95: audio.avi (which could be any other name you wish but has to end with ".avi") is the name of the file created by WavAviMux and contains the combined multichannel audio. It is fed to wmcmd.vbs as audio input.

Good luck! It worked for me, so there's no reason it shouldn't work for you!

Oliver, once again, great guide. Eac3to is the only way I found to correctly create 5.1 sound. I would however add a small note to your guide that the H264 demux still is slightly buggy, and will sometimes yield the wrong length, video that cuts off, ect. This has been mentioned in the huge evob demultiplexers thread but I did not know about it until I looked. I got around it by demuxing and then rebuilding to one evo with only the ddp sound, as I mentioned earlier. The only reason I mentioned it is that it took me several weeks to figure that out, so I wanted to possibly save others the hassle.

@vitodeluca: Just to make sure I understand you properly: are you saying that EVO Demux will not provide accurate data regarding the number of "calculated frames"? (not sure what you mean by "H264 demux")

@zambelli: I have tested the whole process once again and, although it works, using the Sonic Video Decoder still generates a whole series of "ContextException" errors of the follwoing sort:

ContextException thrown by BaseCertificate::GetField [.\BaseCertificate.cpp:903]
with context Field SAR_ActivationMode not found in certificate
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\Certificates8\cp42ppg.rxc

Would you know of a way to avoid these errors? (would be nice to keep things clean!)

Thanks for the new guide. We must be getting close to a perfect solution. When I run this script this is what I get

Getting "dump" instance failed

I however do have the DSDump filter installed as I see it in my graphedit. Anbody know what would cause this error?

@pneffkell: I'm not sure you have the right Dump filter. Try downloading this DUMP.AX (http://www.mydatabus.com/public/aeonflux/z/DUMP.AX) file and save to C:\Windows\System32. Then register the filter by going to Start > Run and entering "regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\dump.ax" (without the quotes!).

The guide looks good so far. I have a slight problem though. When I run the encode it goes through the first 3 steps, and then when it goes to do the final step I get this:
Prepare to encode failed with error -2147220891 A DRM profile has not been set for the current session.
Any ideas? It looks like it should be something simple, but I don't know what it could be!

Edit: So after googling I am still clueless...I know that DRM is for protecting content, but why is it thinking that I am wanting to use it in the first place? I followed the guide to a T, copied and pasted the commands. Please help!

Is ffdshow or anything else important for this to work? I still cant get it to work and I am wondering is something else like ffdshow settings are the problem.
Also, what can I add to the bat file in order to be able to read what happened when it didnt work?
Regards

PS
Seems to be working right now! Just wrote a raw file and told me that sonic decode was set to 24bit and is now doing the wav. All I did was make sure the proper files were at windows/system32 and when I replaced the dump filter with the one linked a few posts above it did the trick!

Ok so the process stopped after it created the wav file and while I can hear the movie and seems to be perfect (encoded at 6 channels 24bit) I can not use it in Tranzcode to separate into 6 mono wav (not recognize format).
Any other way to use it in order to encode my wmv movie?

@shaolin - at the end of the line in the bat file add ">output.txt"
without quotes. You can name it anything, just replace output with whatever you want.

Its working...sorry about my stupidity lol Well the whole script didnt work but I got the audio in 6 mono wav files. Are they supposed to be perfect in the L , R, C etc or do I need to make sure? Now I just need to find the instructions to creat my first xbox 360 wmv!
I will try the output.txt to see what my error

@Olivierdb:
Nice guide. Glad you incorporated the wavavimux in there. When used in a batch file like you described, it makes it very easy to go straight from AC3 or DD+ to WMA Pro without even thinking about the intermediate 6 mono WAVs.

Thank you, Zambelli. Also, sorry for insisting (I'm a bit of a maniac, I know!), but would you have any clue why using the Sonic Video Decoder with wmcmd.vbs still generates a whole series of "ContextException" errors of the follwoing sort:

ContextException thrown by BaseCertificate::GetField [.\BaseCertificate.cpp:903]
with context Field SAR_ActivationMode not found in certificate
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\Certificates8\cp42ppg.rxc

I guess those who absolutely want to avoid those errors could use Intervideo Video Decoder instead of Sonic, but I'd still like to know why the above errors are appearing and if it's possible to avoid them.
