@ABOOABOO,

I can't help you anymore because I do not encode in WMV format; my sources and needs are different. I hope other members of this forum, more competent in this area, to come in as help, now that you have advanced your situation one step further. Good luck :).

Do you have "continue with second EVO" checked in the options tab?

But this is a Newbies section of the forum...And I have asked a similar question without response...

We're spending lots of time converting EVOs to WMV for streaming to xbox360 and other media players....on average 15 hours or more per movie...

Is there a way to by-pass the encoding process?

When I Demux > Graph Edit > AVS, that process takes minimal amount of time, and I can play that AVS file directly in WM Player.

Is there a way to stream that AVS file or something similar so that I don't have to spend a day encoding?

I know I could use an HTPC and connect directly via DVI to my HDTV but I would prefer not to go that route.

Yes i have that checked and its makeing the combined file but it seems to end at the first file.

Hi NHRaider, da bastid is bak!

I also have found the process to be quite lengthy! I was actually hoping that Nero would be my hero and fill in the gap allowing to transcode and stream directly to a wireless media player. Unfortunately they often come short of my expectations!

However, I haven't given up my search and have just recently discovered TVersity (http://tversity.com/support/quickstart/) which is well worthwhile looking into. Alas, I killed my D-Link wireless media player (with which I haven't had a very smooth ride!) by merely pushing the reset button. Therefore, I'm hoping you'll be my guinea pig and test TVersity for me.

Let us know how your experiments go!

Cheers

Hi Oliver...so now you're trying to get me hooked on Tversity?!!!

I will check it out tomorrow and send you my findings...here we go again! ;)

Update: I loaded the TVersity server software and added my movies to the video library. I haven't had success connecting my Helios Media Player to the server yet. I also haven't been able to have another networked devices connect to it either.

I did view some video on the localhost and the video quality was terrible. I'm going to check out if there are settings to change quality of the streaming... Not of to a good start.

Hi Oliver...

I was just trying to get the existing WMV and AVI to work.

I have now been able to connect the XBOX360 and my Helios X-5000 the the TVersity Server...

No issues...I was playing AVI files on the xbox360...

I did a little more research on the TVersity forums and they don't support avs files...I did see mention of "looking into" the ability to load the avs but that is it...

But at least using this server for the XBOX360 you can play:

WMA, WMV, MJPEG, DVR-MS, AVI (including Divx3/4/5/6, Xvid, and others)
MPEG1/2/4 (including H.264), MP3 and AAC
Qucktime MOV
Real Video/Audio/RMVB
OGG Vorbis and OGM
FLAC, WMA lossless, Monkey Audio (APE), Musepack Audio (MPC) and Wavpack
Flash Video
Matroska (MKA and MKV)
Karaoke CDG/BIN (Directshow filters here, the ones from DirectX Karaoke and Troubadour Karaoke are not compatible with TVersity)

Latest Update:

Since this server will play AVI files, I've been trying to figure out ffdshow => MakeAVIS from the AVS file to see if that would stream...Unfortunately I don't know AVS very well and am doing trial and error right now. I keep getting the error trying to play the AVI output file: Can't open GRF file line 1...

Can someone explain now to use makeAVIS to create and avi from an avs file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's the latest...I was able to create an AVI file using MakeAVIS from the .avs file that plays in Windows Media Player...

I tried to see if that file would stream via TVersity but it didn't work..just blank screen for a few minutes then exited back to the folders...

I also looked at the localhost preview on my machine and it did state the correct duration of movie but wouldn't play there as well...

I'll ping their support forums to see what they say.

yup...ffdshow has the MakeAVIS function in it's folder...

Upon further review, it seems that the avi I created still has a codec problem...so we're not dead yet.

I have to figure out why the AVIS codec isn't loaded on my machine...

I have also read that it is possible to stream content to an Xbox from one's PC using either Windows Media Connect or Windows Media Center. Unfortunately, I believe neither play .avs files from what I read, but WM Center does play .avi files. This may be another route worthwhile exploring.

In the meantime, to come back to the avi file you created with makeAVIS, are you able to play this file in WMP?

I have xbox360 and the TVersity does stream avi and wmv..I tested that earlier.

The task now is finding out how to correctly create an avi file from MakeAVIS that will play in WMP...that is my problem now... If I can make that work then I can test to see if it can stream the avs via fake avi.

When I create the avi and load into G-Spot it says that the codec AVIS is not loaded... But I have the latest ffdshow which was supposed to have included AVIS.

I have discovered something new which has nothing to do with TVersity. It's called VLC360 (http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEuFulpAyVWcRmPvOF.php), is based on VLC and streams and transcodes various formats to one's XBox 360. The interesting part is that VLC plays .avs files, so I am assuming VLC360 will too.

Maybe you should give this a try if you're struggling with TVersity.

P.S. Don't forget to first test your .avs file in WMP11 just to make sure it works fine before testing with VLC360. Good Luck!

I always check if the .avs works in WMP11 first...that's the test before I encode or do anything else...

I can't get .avs to play in VLC... (not VLC360)

I managed to get MakeAVIS to create an AVI file that would play in WMP11. Unfortunately there is some audio issues with MakeAVIS that I'm followiing up with...

Now testing for that AVI file to stream...

Update:

I was able to stream the fake avi file file to my Helios X-5000. The video was a little choppy so I have to figure out the config to get that fixed...then I need to figure out why MakeAVIS was crashing with Audio...

Getting closer to streaming these .avs files!!!

Ok here is what I am doing and I seem to be having success with it

I create my grf file and avisync file for the video

break the ddp file out into 6 wave channels
I convert the six wave files to an ac3 file using quenc

Then I use TMPGenc 4 express to create the wmv hd file.

I am using TMPGenc because I like the user interface and because it allows me to correct for audio and video being out of sync. Anyway just finished backing up my copy of an HD-dvd and It looks great!

Pneffkell, would you mind elaborating on your process a bit? I am a bit new to this, but highly interested in using TMGPenc 4 for HD-DVD conversions.. I use it to convert regular DVDs to WMV, and it works great.

What are the video and audio file formats you feed into TMPGenc as sources? I don't think TMPGenc accepts .avs files as sources - at least they are not listed as supported extensions. What about audio?

Any further detail you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tek,

Be aware that TMPGenc Xpress 4.0 can only output audio in 2 channels. So if you use it for generating the video then that is fine. You will still need to use Vegas or WMEnc to create the WMA file. Then Stream Edit them together.

TMPGEnc is NOT licensed for anything other than 2 channel.

I thank you guys for all the work you have been putting into this, but I have another ?

I have encoded 3 wmv hd movies now. The 4th that I am now working on is Babel. I thought that I had the process down, I am using the same batch file, just changing the grf and output name, but the movie file is getting huge! I have been through it several times and each time it is going to end up being 40+ gigs! My other movies were only around 10g, and there is no way that this film is 4x longer. What is going on? Here is the batch file is that would help to unravel this.

eac3to.exe "G:\FEATURE_1_FEATURE_2.DD+.stream.00.ddp" "G:\output.wav"

tranzcode.exe "G:\output.wav"

wavavimux -o audio.avi -iwav 6 output-FL.wav output-FR.wav output-C.wav output-LFE.wav output-SL.wav output-SR.wav -mask 63

cscript.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\wmcmd.vbs" -input "G:\Video_Only.avs" -a_input "G:\audio.avi" -output "C:\Babel.wmv" -v_bframedist 1 -v_bdeltaqp 1 -v_mslevel 1 -v_codec wmv9 -v_keydist 3 -v_mode 2 -v_quality 96 -v_mmatch 0 -v_msrange 0 -v_performance 20 -v_loopfilter 1 -a_codec wmapro -a_setting 384_48_6_16

I am basically ripping with anydvd hd then evodemux.

GRF the video files

then i use eac3to, tranzcode and wavavimux with this script to get 5 wave files

c:\eac3to\eac3to.exe "C:\video\mi 3\FEATURE_1_FEATURE_2.DD+.stream.00.ddp" "C:\video\mi 3\output.wav"
tranzcode.exe "C:\video\mi 3\output.wav"
wavavimux -o audio.avi -iwav 6 output-FL.wav output-FR.wav output-C.wav output-LFE.wav output-SL.wav output-SR.wav -mask 63

Then I use AC3tools pro to create and AC3 file

You can then use TMPGEnc 4 xpress to create the wmv file.

My problem is that I get a completed file that stops at about frame 144971 the video ends and TMPG just leaves the final frame showing until the audio is over.

NHRaider - that's simply incorrect. I am playing a movie with WMA10 Pro 5.1 track through my Xbox 360 extender right as we speak. I can hear it pefrectly - each channel gets its own soundtrack, they are not the same.

TMPGX4 decodes AC3 audio from a DVD and re-encodes it into 5.1 or 7.1 WMA audio just fine. I am not the only one doing this - take a look at this thread on DVD-WMV forum:

http://www.dvd-wmv.com/Forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=9

I think the 2-channel issue comes into play when creating a MPEG2/DVD videos. There are no special licenses required for 5.1 or 7.1 WMA audio.

@Danthemano: Daniel,

1) Make sure you are using the DTS/AC3/DD+ filter for your source file and not File (Async)
2) Use the extension .ddp for your DD+ audio file
3) Try removing the "Default DirectSound Device" filter and playing again in WMP

If all this still doesn't work, pls copy-paste your Audio_Only.avs file.

Well...I have specifically tested and found this to be true and I have spoken to TMPGEnc directly...Their tech support etc. They are NOT licensed and the DO NOT output 5.1 or 7.1. Your AV system is generating SIMULATED 5.1, etc.

I am not mistaken since I went through many cycles with the company...If you feel comfortable that you are getting more than stereo then don't sweat it. They are not licensed and have no plans for it. WMV is the only output format that doesn't generate an error when you select more than stereo...but it's SIMULATED.\

Absolutely getting 5.1 channels. What they refer to with that comment is when I take a 5.1 audio source, the AC3 codec in the program can only write to 2 channels when creating a MPEG2 file/DVD. When creating a WMV file the WMV/WMA encoder however can write to 5.1 channels (from memory 7.1 actually).

I have confirmed this on my Xbox 360 Media Center Extender (which on the fly converts back to DD 5.1), as well as natively from a Windows PC outputting over coax digital to a Pioneer amp with native WMA Pro audio support.

Regards,
Shane.

I am not even sure what "simulated" 5.1 means. My A/V reciever is getting native 5.1 digital feed from Xbox, it doesn't do any further conversion. I have compared the audio from original DVD source to what I am getting with WMA10Pro 5.1 - my ears can't tell the difference.

Sorry if your experience is different.

Your ears may not be able to tell the difference but the company is specifically saying that it isn't 5.1. As I stated earlier, just be aware that you are not getting the direct AC3 5.1 that you are expecting. The purpose for this information is to raise a concern which I suspect is important - especially when spending 20+ hours encoding the video. You may want to go the mono channel then Stream Edit approach.

From TMPGEnc directly:

"Hi,

Thank you for the screen shots, however, as I have stated before our software does not have the license to create 5.1 ch audio. For WMV 6 ch even though it shows 6 channel, it is not true surround 5.1 ch. Our software does not have the included tools to specify which audio track goes with what channel so it only outputs to stereo/simulated surround. If you would like to have 5.1 for AVI then I recommend doing a separate AC3 encode with another software that allows you to set specifically 5.1 ch then multiplex this file to your AVI file. You may see the list show AC3 with 5.1 ch option but this will not encode to 5.1. Our software simply received this list from Dolby digital but we do not have the license to create the 5.1 ch.

Jeesus this thread has taken some duck's and dives's! been reading it since it started with a lot of hope it would answer my questions but to no joy, Tangents an all that.
Am i the only person that thinks this should be easyer?
To be honest this has been a lot of help but I think I am in a small minority of people who do not want to run scripts and stuff so I have purchased wmea, I have managed to rip my HDDVD's from my 360, (not as easy as 'just plug the HDDVD drive into usb') and I have used evodemux to get the mpv/mpa files. According to the 'Blog' I should be able to add the source files and output a wmv9 with 5.1 but all i get is, 'a drm profile has not been set for the Blah Blah Blah' I have googled this and searched this forum but there has been no real answer.
I have installed the codecs for MPV/MPA using the RUN command and both files said 'success' adding them but I cannot get the video or audio to play in WMP 11, this is the first thing support at wmea are going to say!
I am running my wmv's on a hard drive connected to my second 360 so file size is not an issue.
I would also like to know if I need all of the DD files when ripping? I have 4 streams for my audio but I can only add 1 into wmea?

I know this has gone on a while so hope someone else can benefit from my questions????

yes...you are correct. Looking at the log above, the dump failed and then each successive script is missing it's input file.

So if you fix your dump problem, you may be able finish each step. I recall getting this error a few months back but can't remember at this time what the issue was...maybe the movie is DTS and not DD??? If so, you could do a search to find the remedy. I'm not sure but I think you skip the EAC3to step with DTS audio...

there were 7 .ddp files after i demuxed the evo files,
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.00.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.02.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.03.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.04.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.05.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.DD+.stream.08.ddp
PEVOB_1_PEVOB_2.MLP.stream.01.ddp

i assumed the DD+ meant it was DD, no idea what MLP is, but its 1.8GB. the first 2 DD+ streams are 640Mb and the rest are ~195MB.
i'll try one of the smaller streams, to see if it makes a difference
