Hi,
I can also verify that opening AVS scripts in the latest version of MeGUI (1025) is broken. I get the error message is the same as above user (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=922671#post922671), and I get it both when I try to open the AVS file, or when I tried to create one. Just to help out, I installed the Helix YUV codecs:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Helix_YUV_Codecs.htm
I can create the script manually or on another computer running windows XP, then open the script in Media Player Classic and with VirtualDubSynth without issue. I get the error message once, I can click OK, then I get the error message again. Once I click OK again, the message goes away. I am able to add the job and run the encoding process.
The encoded file is perfect and has no issues whatsoever. It's an issue for me, but since I have access to another OS which I can create the synth file then transfer to my main machine for encoding with full horsepower, it's an annoyance. It is most certainly a big issue for someone without 2 machines.
I am running Vista RTM Ultimate. I run MeGUI with full administrative support.
I run AVISynth 2.56a (non-alpha).
I downgraded to 1020 and it also had the same issue. If you have other versions you would like me to test, please PM or IM me.
Thanks again for this great application and your support. Let me know if you want me to do anything.
Donholio
I have the EXACT same problem, except i'm on Win2K SP4. I've got AVISynth 2.56a, YUVCodecs, .net 2.0, etc. It works on 0.2.3.2193 and older versions. Anything after that and MeGUI just crashes when either creating or opening an .avs file. PM me if you got any questions.

i tried on 3 PCs ... and it definatly works...
check your avisynth plugin folder and keep only the required filters, check your system for instabilities, ensure you have the correct version of DGIndex and a YUV codec installed.

this is the first time i have had such an issue with megui - i backed up snatch r2 pal using xvid in avi container with ac3 sound and the bot rate is well off, i am using 2.4.1026

I can't get MeGUI to set the number of threads properly. I'd been following the discussion here:-
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=119480&page=10
and I'd been checking and trying to get it to work right.
I started clean and uninstalled MeGUI and then reinstalled a newly downloaded version from
http://x264.nl
then did the auto-update
I have AviSynth 2.5.7 RC3 installed (previously just 2.5.6).
Core2Duo @ 3.0GHz
I have created two separate profiles (1 for first pass and another for 2nd pass) and set the number of threads within the profiles to 8. If I copy and paste the command line into a DOS windows and set it off, task manager reports between 8 and 13 threads being used, with CPU @ 100%.
If I just use MeGUI queue it always sets threads to 2, according to the log. Is this a known bug now, or is there something I should be doing? This applies to both passes, 1st and 2nd.
I also have another problem after I try and delete something from the queue, it throws up an error:
"MeGUI encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed. Reason: The given key was not present in the dictionary. Source of exception: mscorlib stacktrace: at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowKeynotFoundException()
at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.get_Item(TKey key)
at Me"
etc....lots of line if you want 'em! And then I have to end task it to get rid of MeGUI

I found a little interface bug AviSynth script creator :
The deinterlacing method isn't automatically changed in the script when you change it in the list.
You have to check/uncheck 'Deinterlace' option in order to update it.

i did same number of tests using GK and it varied between 103-105 - which program is right ?

edit2: after using Enc and using the 30% profile as it told me - got a bitrate of 700K instead of 1529 - so guessing it didnt work quite right

I removed avisynth from the machine. I removed the avisynth directory from the program files directory (including the plugins directory). I reinstalled AVISynth 2.56a again (the recommended version) from Sourceforge.
I removed the autoupdate.xml file from the MeGUI directory to kickstart finding all non-installed filters. When I launch the update util I see the following with checks:
Libs
AVSWrapper
updatecopier
convolution3dyv12
undot
fluxsmooth
eedi2
decomb
leakkerneldeint
tomsmocomp
tdeint
tivtc
dgdecode
simpleresize
colormatrix
nicaudio
I saved the dgdecode.dll and dgdecodemanual.html and copied those over to the plugins directory.
So in the plugins directory, I have
colors_rgb.avsi
dgdecode.dll
dgdecodemanual.html
directshowsource.dll
tcpdeliver.dll
I then try to create an avs file using megui, and the problem still happens.
So then after crying a little, I decided "screw it" and installed the latest alpha from 12/31/06 (AviSynth_311206). Low and behold, even though we are advised to NEVER install the alpha, that worked---- ONCE! Grrrrr...
So thinking about this, I started wondering about the fact that when I reinstalled AVISynth it worked once. That got me thinking about the prefetch directory (c:\windows\prefetch). I went in and cleared it out, that worked--- ONCE!!!
Then I wondered about permissions. I set myself with full control over the megui and avisynth directories and all subdirs. That worked--- ONCE!!!!
The latest thing is that if I reboot the box, I am able to open the D2V file for AVS encoding once.
I am at a loss here. I feel like I am trying stuff and not getting anywhere. I don't mean to call out the developers on this, but I would like to know a little more about what is going on behind the scenes here. This is the same machine I was running XP x86_64 on without issue and this Vista x86_32. No hardware has changed, just a fresh install (non upgrade) of Vista.
I have reinstalled MeGUI multiple times, installed only the pieces that I need to have to do AVISynth and the problem still occurs. Other applications that use AVISynth (VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod) works without issues over and over again, but MeGUI seems to allow it to work only once. Could it have something to do with avswrapper? Was it recently updated? Does VDub use it? I have no idea what that does, but noticed it when I did my last update.

uninstall all the apps (if you want make back ups but dont copy any files back just yet) - reboot - this will make sure any registered files are no longer registered
del all files in windows\temp and C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Local Settings\Temp - and clean all files from prefetch
check that avisynth and megui folders are not in programs folder if they are del them - leave no files anywhere
then reinstall everything again
if none of that works you still have your backup to fall back on (if you made one :) )

Carpo,
I wasn't sure who you are talking to, but I took it to be me.
I am using the bins version of MeGUI from Sourceforge. I moved the megui directory to my server for backup. I removed the avisynth app with add / remove programs. I removed the avisynth plugins directory and rebooted.
I cleaned the C:\windows\temp and c:\windows\prefetch directories, emptied the recycle bin and rebooted.
I installed AVISynth 2.56a (latest non-alpha). I cleared all checkboxes except for the Associate AVS with notepad.
I created the c:\program files\MeGUI directory and downloaded "MeGUI.NETv2.0_Bins_0.2.4.1020.zip" from SourceForge. I uncompressed the files to the c:\program files\MeGUI directory. I launched MeGUI in Administrator mode. I updated all of the files to the latest version.
I opened the D2V files with the AVISynth script creator and I get the same error about the file not being able to be opened talking about the YV12 codec. It says as before that it attempted to read or write protected memory and that it's often an indication that memory is corrupt.
I ran memtest for 2 cycles last night with no errors.
I rebooted the box and now when I try to open the D2V file, I get another error message which I included in a post below this one. It does open the avisynth window, but does not show any video. The next time I opened the file, I get the error message that we keep seeing over and over again which is included in a post below this one.

Yes, I am using Vista. I am trying to help troubleshoot an issue that seems to happen with Vista and W2K SP4. My XP box is working fine. Any headway with the autoencode issue?
http://xs511.xs.to/xs511/07014/megui.PNG
Oh yeah, and I got error dialogs similar to the ones other users have been reporting here. Seems they come a lot--when deleting items from the queue, when deleting profiles (the profiles remain in the selection window after deletion, and selecting them causes the crash), zone config, and sometimes just clicking around in it. Something odd is going on.

i tried on 3 PCs ... and it definatly works...
check your avisynth plugin folder and keep only the required filters, check your system for instabilities, ensure you have the correct version of DGIndex and a YUV codec installed.
Um.. the part you're missing here is, that these errors ONLY OCCUR in the later versions of MeGUI. I repeat, it works perfectly fine in an older core or VDub. This means that it cannot be my filters, or other problems with my system. Rather, it is an incompatibility with Win2K/Vista and the newest cores of MeGUI.
And yes, I do have a clean install of Avisynth, only the req'd filters, my system is perfectly stable, I have the correct version of DGIndex and a YUV codec.
Have you tested this on Win2K SP4 yet? If you haven't, please don't say it "definitely works" until you have.

Selur,
Make sure you are running MeGUI as Administrator.
To do this, right click on the shortcut and click properties, then click advanced. There should be a check mark in there for run as administrator.
Another way to do it is running the app in compatibility mode as administrator. This doc will help you out.

Hi Sharktooth, Dizmon, Berrinam, and other MeGUI developers,
I realize that having Vista or Windows 2000 might not be an option for you guys and that the primary focus of coding is Windows XP. I am asking however for some information to help with troubleshooting to possibly fix the problems people are having with MeGUI.
I would like to know how creating new AVISynth scripts and opening them with MeGUI for encoding occurs.
From what I understand, when you open the file for creation or to encode the file, it calls AVISynth with the dgdecode dll to show the MPEG-2 video.
Is the window display of the video that comes up a part of AVISynth or a part of the MeGUI application? My best guess is that it's part of MeGUI (maybe the Avisynthwrapper.dll) , but I don't know for sure.
I found this:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106614
where the user was getting a similar error and it was related to the avisynthwrapper.dll version. If I had to place a bet, avisynthwrapper is where I think the problem is. I don't know WHY this error is happening.
I have moved my main encoding machine back to XP, but I am willing to setup a Virtual Machines of Vista and W2K. The same issue will happen in the VM.
I am more than willing to work out making these VMs available to the MeGUI developers. I would have to build the VMs first though.
I would really like to get this issue fixed and I am willing to make things happen to get it fixed. I know you guys are busy, but if you are willing to work to fix this issue, I am willing to give you a sandbox to work with.

well... the problem may be the avisynthwrapper but it should be included and up to date...
try replacing your avisynthwrapper.dll with this one: http://www.webalice.it/f.corriga/megui/AvisynthWrapper.7z (it should be placed in the megui installation folder)

@ Selur,
Yeah it's kind of wierd the way that it works. Kind of a step backwards. It would be nice if they could look at Linux and figure out a way to prompt you to allow access automatically when you launch an application that requires it. Almost every app we use right now for ripping and transcoding requires admin access.

I checked the MD5 hash of both files (the version you sent me to and the version in the distro) and they are exactly the same. Since the date on the file is in May, and AVISynth hasn't been updated since 1020 came out, I would say we are back to the MeGUI executable.
Let me know if you want me to create the VMs for you and give you access so you can troubleshoot the issue. IM or PM me.

H.264 levels care about the selected profiles concerning max bitrate. For High Profile and 3.2 it's 25000, for Main 20000. MeGUI always uses 20000 regardless of the profile selected.
rpp3po
8th January 2007, 15:46
I must extend my previous post. It's not just level 3.2. MeGUI doesn't seem to care at all about the selected profile when calculating this.
I'm not able to produce a hardware compliant level 3 AVC in high profile up to 12,5 MBit/s. MeGUI limits this to 10 MBit/s because of that bug.

when deleting a job in MeGUI this error arises:
http://i18.tinypic.com/4i1pdfc.jpg
the job history will be deleted completely!
then trying to exit MeGUI produces this:

At one point starting MeGUI again was only possible when deleting the corrupted job manually. But now I can't reproduce that....
TwoToad
9th January 2007, 16:01
I had the same issue as kurt. The only way out of megui is the Ctrl-Alt-Del and end process on megui. Just for reference, I would hold down the shift key while selecting multiple jobs then hit delete. That's when the errors popped up. I should try to just hit delete on the first job (which would delete all the jobs in that chain) to see if that works ok.... Can't test it right now, cause I'm busy encoding =)
Anyway, I'm here to report a possible bug. Not sure if it has been reported or not.
When I select the iPod 5.5G profile from the main screen, and then hit the Config button, the config screen loads the older iPod 5G profile. I'm not sure what happens when you hit AutoEncode, which profile it actually uses... My only solution was to delete the older ipod profile, and everything loads like it should now. *shrug* I'm not even sure if it was causing issues, or just an annoyance.

Hi,
this and the last build got this bug, dont know if older ones got it too (but there is at least one without).
I only had a d2v File (and, for sure the audio/video files). I opened the "AviSynth script creator" and selected/opened the file. First, i setup up resolution of the video, then i clicked "Preview". Now i want to change Cropping but i cant see the white Overlay to see where im cropping.
I closed the creator and opened it again. now i change Cropping first and now i can see the white Overlay.
If i click "Preview AVS Script" now, i cannot see the Overlay anymore. :(

when deleting a job in MeGUI this error arises:
http://i18.tinypic.com/4i1pdfc.jpg
the job history will be deleted completely!
then trying to exit MeGUI produces this:
http://i3.tinypic.com/4hjk8zl.jpg
At one point starting MeGUI again was only possible when deleting the corrupted job manually. But now I can't reproduce that....
Yeah, I get exactly the same plus worse it appears to kill MeGUI altogether for me. I can't restart the program after it's been killed or even start it after a reboot. Only choice is uninstall and reinstall the entire app!
Bug report contains following info:-
EventType: clr203r3 P1: megui.exe P2: 0.2.4.1026 P3: 45999fde P4: system.window.forms P5: 2.0.0.0 P6: 4333aefa P7: 445d P8: 45 P9: system.argumentoutofrange

@ bwlonsdale:
for me a complete reinstall was not needed. MeGUI started fine after I deleted the appropriate job in the megui/jobs folder.

Sorry guys but i cant update megui right now since im quite busy moving into my new home. In short time i will be without DSL connection until the ISP reactivates it on the new line.
Hope you can live with the actual bugs unless berrinam, doom9, dimzon or other devs fix them.
