im adding (in the free time) FTP support to autoupdater. it will be able to get files (and check for updates) from nero FTP...

as long as <ignore updates for this file> isn't checked, MeGUI still persists on updating neroaacenc...

maybe Christmas is a good time for adding FTP support... :)

that would be very nice and therefore thank you in advance...

Sharktooth
19th December 2006, 04:10
well, it will be still "illegal"...:(
that's why i didnt add it...

sillKotscha
19th December 2006, 04:29
nonetheless adding a FTP check out isn't illegal per se ...

in that case a pop-up message, like "a new version of neroaacenc is available. go to nerodigital (http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/Nero_Digital_Audio.html) to download the latest version" would be a smart way...

when MeGUI is installed for the first time, an empty neroaac folder could be generated under \tools and it is the decision of the user if he/she is willing to download the nero aac encoder and place the files in that empty folder...

just a thought...

Yo, Sharktooth! I am still having that update problem again. Every time I try to update the Megui core, it fails. Or rather it appears to download the file, asks me to restart, and then stays at the current version, 2193. You said previously that this seems to be a problem with the .net cache. Is there something i can do about this?

also if it helps, I do not have .NET version 1.1 installed.

Sharktooth
19th December 2006, 05:00
it happened to me too... i had to format & reinstall windows for a definitive fix.
What you can do is unistall MeGUI completely and delete the remaining folders (including all files).
Download the latest version from x264.nl and install it.

sillKotscha
19th December 2006, 05:03
just start everything all over... delete your current MeGUI folder and download the last official package from here:

https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=156112

then go through the automated update process and I bet everything will be ok ;)

EDIT:

got me ;)

I too am having the Large Font layout issue. I just developed the problem very reciently. My computer isn't set to large fonts, but under Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, the DPI setting is set to Large size. So I guess it is a resize issue.

BTW... I love to see the improvements happening again!

also in 1009...when creating an x264 project by modifying a profile to enable 'turbo' first-pass mode in my case is ineffective. Other codec changes seem to take as shown by the command line, but not turbo (in automated 2-pass mode).

With v1009 If I set threads manually, megui takes it upon itself to use 2 threads regardless of what I set.

Also and I think this was reported in a different thread.
Megui no longer pops up the progress box on the 2nd pass.

edit: Even If I set threads to auto (0) it still encodes with threads 2.
Even though the command line viewer in the video config dialog shows the correct setting.

With Megui results are
71.02fps first pass
13.44fps 2nd pass

Command line with threads auto
75.27fps first pass
15.10fps 2nd pass

When I make my AAC file from AC3 it comes out almost 2 minutes shorter. I did the same for another DVD and the same thing happened. AAC file always a few minutes shorter. I'm using MeGUI + its Nero encoder and DGIndex Forced Film. Could this be due to the frame rate difference? Will it sync properly if I mux the AAC with my video?

All I did was use Rip4Me, then DGIndex (launched separately from MeGUI), then all the MeGUI stuff.

The file size or average bitrate settings in the Automatic Encoding dialogue is ignored, and it sets always "--btrate 1000" like this:

For clarification, this "1000" bitrate probably comes from the currently selected profile settings. It shouldn't override whatever bitrate I specify in AutoEncode.

Also, it bothers me that the default resize in Avisynth Script Creator is now bilinear instead of lanczos as it was before.

Oh and in the queue list it does not let me right click to postpone a job. I found this feature very useful if I just wanted to finish a job up, load a game/movie, and continue my queue later. :sly:

If you double-click on one item of the queue list, it changes its status.

MeGUI runs another program upon closing which waits 2 seconds and then replaces MeGUI.exe with the new version. Perhaps MeGUI doesn't shut down in those 2 seconds, keeping the write protection on MeGUI.exe and preventing the update....

And the good old Autostart Queue doesn't work with AutoEncode.

Also, could you re-implement the a/v file source autodetection (i.e. If I select file.avs for video, file.avs would automatically be selected for audio too unless changed by the user)?

Thanks

More juicy bugs:
While in safe profile alteration mode, it doesn't let you change any settings unless you make a whole new profile to do so. This is different from the behavior of 0.2.3.2192, which allowed you to tweak options at will but simply not update the profile with them.

Sharktooth
19th December 2006, 22:06
i think he means in the main form. when selecting the avs for video, you should also manually select an audio source.
that wont be good for DVDs though...
Maybe we can add something in the avisynth creator. Just a checkbox to use the same .avs for audio and automatically fill the audio input textbox on script creator close.

Would it be possible for me to implement the core myself? Like just go to the directory were the core is downloaded, copy it to say, my desktop. Close Megui. Overright. And load Megui again.

Hey

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to be posting in .. . but here goes . .

I just updated MeGUI with the autoupdate - updated 'core' and 'x264' - and tried a few encodings from mpeg-2 (d2v) to x264 and the file sizes are way off. I used the 'AutoEncode' and set the output filesize to 200MB and it turned out something like 173MB.

I haven't had this problem before updating. It was always pretty spot on with filesize before I updated yesterday.

I later tried setting the filesize using the 'Bitrate Calculator' and then just 'No Target Size (Use profile settings)' in 'AutoEncode' and that worked pretty perfect. The filesize was 199.8 MB.

Is there something wrong with the core or x264 update ?
Or is something else the problem ?

It seems as though the filesize I'm selecting in the AutoEncode window isn't being implemented on the encoding. x264 is just using the standard 1000kbps from the profile settings.

The desired filesize of 2000MB is right, but it turns out being 173 MB or therebouts and only 1000kbps instead of something closer to 1200kbps like I've selected.

Rely? Cause that is were I looked.

Wait. If it is not showing up there, that would be my problem. I wonder why that is not going there. I will check for absolute positive tomorrow. If, as I believe it is, the core is not there, what is going on?

It's not called 'core'. I'm pretty sure it's the megui.exe file

Adub

really? Wouldn't it be something more like megui.exe.temp or something. Because I looked for that I believe but it wasn't there. Again I will have to check for sure in the morning.

Here is a separate incident of MeGUI. This is on a different computer. It happens when I tried to update the core, or the update copier.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d125/Merlin7777/megui2.jpg

Oh, and the core was downloaded to the main MeGUI folder, under the .tempcopy extension. I don't think this is happening on my other computer.

Note: This happened on both 2192 and the 2.4.1009 versions.

Any news on
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=919355#post919355

Is this a bug in the new 'core' update that doesn't implement the desired filesize/bitrate from the AutoEncode window or is it something else ?

Can someone else who updated today or yesterday see if it works for them ?

spanky123 I'm getting the same problem as you anything through auto encode when you select a file size comes out undersized.

I normally use the 2100MB 3 CD's setting but every time I use it the file comes out at 950-1000MB in size.

I'm also getting the same fatal error warning from MeGUI someone else mentioned a few posts back when you tick the box for add additional connect and click on Queue.

Running the latest version of MeGUI and x264.

I had encountered one other bug in the the audio was way off (not in sync with video) with the encodes but the most recent update to x264 seems to have corrected it or at least the test I did this morning had.

Yeah. Mine just uses the profile settings (which is always 1000kbps for HQ-Slow) instead of overwriting that bitrate and forcing the new filesize/bitrate.

You can use the bitrate calculator and then 'apply' to change the bitrate in the profile for each encoding so that you hit the desired file size. That works.
Autoencode is a bit easier though. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Note: This happened on both 2192 and the 2.4.1009 versions.Kind of a similar thing happens to me right after i updated the core to 2.4.1010. In Tools>Settings>Program Paths: When I try to specify the path to my avisynth plugins folder for MeGUI.. i get an error mssg and then the path does show up in the blank space, but when i try using the Script creator, it gives error for not finding the dgdecode.dll or any of the plugins at all. So then i checked the settings again and the path to the plugins folder is again empty. It wont accept the directory to the plugins, no matter wht ;o..I went back to the previous stable version, tried uninstall/re-install, nothing working..i get the same error :/

fixed my update issue. I was using an Auto update xml file that I brought with me from a different computer, so all of the files were going to c:\program files\x264. My mistake.

Oh, one bug.
When I update the profiles from auto update, and the choose profiles to update window appears, it is blank. I mean there are no profiles to choose from.

Another bug. Maybe. When Automatically set Threads is enabled for x264, I get 2 threads. Shouldn't it be to --threads auto? Maybe we just have to turn auto set threads off?

If I do that then the profiles for x264 show threads=1 in the config window. Instead of 0. But that may be expected.

Lastly, on the second pass, when auto set threads in Megui is turned off, and threads are set to 0 in the profile config window, I get no separate window for Encoding the second pass. Sure it shows up on the first pass, but not the second. Encoding still continues, I just can't see the frame rate and such.

Ok Sharktooth. I have read the wiki. And it confirmed my own thoughts. Thanks for pointing it out by the way.

About that last comment of mine.

What I was saying was this. When I run a two pass encode, the progress window, containing number of frames, current framerate and so on, doesn't show up on the second pass.

Actually, this is not always true. My last encode the dialog showed up corretly, which is great but kind of weired. Considering how the first encode I ran didn't give me the second pass dialog, I am a little confused.

I will run some more tests and report back.

Also and I think this was reported in a different thread.
Megui no longer pops up the progress box on the 2nd pass.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=918704#post918704

and btw. recently the small encoding status window keeps dissapearing. I just have the normal megui frontend and have to read the percentage values from the headline, but of course cant see any fps or time values any more (I mean I can fool him and cancel/retry encoding after 1st pass, but thats not the way it should work -.-)

There's another update for the x264 and core just now.

Anyone know if this has anything to do with the 'AutoEncode' filesize being off ?
