I can't load avs files either.
With MeGui 0.2.4.100x I get an error message:

The file .... .avs cannot be opened.
Please make sure it's a valid AviSynth script and that....
Error message for your reference: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

With the 0.2.3.2192 everything went just fine.

Hi again,
the error persists in core 0.2.4.10xx.
I can even ran 2 instances of meGui (0.2.3.2192 and 0.2.4.1013).
0.2.4.1013 works fine and 0.2.4.1013 refuses to open avs files.

OS:Win2k + sp4

It's a bit strange, isn't it?
Any suggestions?

please use a different image host so we don't have to wait days for stuff to be approved, try files.project357.com

As for problems with opening avs files, does a simple version() script work? If so, keep adding filters til you find the one that gives the problem.

I was updating MeGUI (core) yesterday and when it asked me if I wanted to restart MeGUI I clicked Yes and then when it was shutting down the AutoCopy file(or something like that) crashed. I did a Send Error Report. After that meGUI would not start and I had to download an older version and then re-run Auto update. Then it worked fine.

UpdateCopier always worked here...

I faced this onyl once while updating yesterday so thought I'd mention it here. At that time the only thing it updated was the core. I should have taken a screenshot or error data....however only once yesterday (after you made that change when the Profile update button and I re-downloaded).

I tried to re-run UpdateCopier.exe but it wouldnt run. I had to download megui.exe (only this file which was missing) - then it worked fine.

What are the inputs for UpdateCopier.exe?

Try deleting or locking the input required for UpdateCopier.exe - there might be an unhandled exception there...maybe..just guessing.

Bug at the latest (0.2.4.1005) and this http://www.savefile.com/files/345598 version:
The sharktoth profiles are totally unuseable for me.
Try on the main page:
- select an avs input
- seletct eg. HQ-Insane
- press config
- at the mode select: Const quality (it should do a 1pass encode)
- press OK here, then press Enqueue: see at the queue tab that megui created a 2pass encode

And the bigger problem is that the complete profile system is broken: if you enter a bitrate (eg. 4000) at Automated 2pass mode, it will do the default 1000 kbps encode :(

At least I could see that how amazing the codec at 1000 kbps with a 1280*720 resolution ... :)

Edit: I can circumvent the problem until it will be fixed: after I have choosed the HQ-Insane profile, select the desired setting then press new.

Is it just me who is facing this problem ???
Or is it a feature? If it is, I liked the old way much better.

And with this feature the situation was getting much worse:
0.2.4.1011

@wadim: I have remarked on the development thread that I don't know what is causing the problem with large fonts. This means that I can't fix it for the time being, and I think that my time would be better spent fixing bugs that I know how to solve. At the moment you have two choices: discard large fonts, or go back to MeGUI 0.2.3.2193.

I don't actually see a bug in the behavior, but it might be somewhat unintuitive. Just to clear things up, you have to press 'Update' before closing the window, or the changes you make will be ignored.

Well... you MUST update a profile, or settings will not be saved...
In 1011 i added a sort of "reminder" to the OK button.

the problem is that all sizes and positions are offset by a factor of ~1.5 or ~1.4. i was writing a program once and manually set all positions in the OnSize Handler with SetWindowPosition(). With large fonts, the positioning and sizing was messed up. My fix was to simply divide all the values by 1.5 if large fonts are enabled.

i don't know how megui is doing this, though. could you at least please move the "encode" button somewhere we can see it (maybe top right of the window), that would be sufficient and we can use the program again.

btw, we have "large fonts" enabled for a reason, with 1280 resolutions and upwards the normal font size is so small that my eyes start to hurt very soon....

Aaah, the Autoencode still doesn't implement the correct bitrate if you choose a filesize in there. It just uses the bitrate from the profile. Is anyone else still having this problem ? I've 'autoupdated' to the latest core and x264

oh and btw, it's only the main window. e.g. the avisynth script creator or the d2v creator window are all correctly sized.

but the mainwindow (Input/Queue/Log tabs) are messed up. maybe it has something todo with the TabCtrl ?

As for problems with opening avs files, does a simple version() script work? If so, keep adding filters til you find the one that gives the problem.

When I open an avs file, containing just version(), I get the same error.
Opening the version() avs in MPC I find out about the version of avisynth. :)

foxyshadis

well, it will be still "illegal"...:(
that's why i didnt add it...

Then why, half a year after this was brought up, does upgrade.xml still have these lines:

<neroaacenc type="file">
<filepath version="2006-05-08">naac_20060508.zip</filepath>
<filepath version="2006-05-26">naac_20060526.zip</filepath>
</neroaacenc>

A full year ago you were asked to remove these lines, instead you make people suffer non-stop confusing upgrade errors, with no more than a faq a few particularly frustrated people might go looking for to explain how to fix it. All you have ever had to do to fix it was remove those lines pointing to non-existant zips from upgrade.xml! (Or replace them with empty zips if it suits your fancy.)

Commit by Sharx1976:

Really, really painful to use now. As DTS pointed out, no way to create custom one-off settings; you either have to ruin a profile or create random junk profiles. Entirely unintuitively, using no will reset the profile and close the dialog, leaving you to think you are using them without saving them, but you aren't using them at all! It should also only come up at all with safe profile alteration, I imagine, because it gets annoying fast.

Correct behavior should be that Yes saves the profile, while No saves the current settings to the session and applies them to the encode, like the 21xx versions did, but of course doesn't touch the profile. If you have to have a hidden __session__ profile to do it, great.

MeGUI 0.2.4.1018 and before:
Profiles:
I select for example an audio-profile (NDAAC HE64kbit), change to LC-ACC, 0,12 Quality, press "New", give profile a new name. Confirm all.

Now when I select the new profile in Mainwindow the audio configuration window shows again the HE 64kbit profile. I have to choose the profiles tab in the audio configuration window to choose my new profile and see the made changes.

All "old" profiles are directly shown when selected in main window and config is pressed.

Is there any chance of getting the profile importer that is used with the autoupdate to open in front of the autoupdate window?

It always opens behind the window, which makes it look like the update has hung.

Sorry, foxyshadis. Nero is now removed. This won't appear differently for already-configured MeGUIs, but fresh MeGUIs won't have nero listed any more.

Removing those lines from the upgrade.xml file will remove neroaacenc from the autoupdate.
However i think displaying the nero license (with "i accept" and "cancel" buttons) and if the user accepts it, downloading neroaacenc zip from the Nero FTP is legal, anyone?
